The folks that run the store, Farbodd and Homer, are very kind and honest. When I try something on they give me honest feedback that helps me determine if the item is right for me. The sizing can be different so they help me find the specific fit I'm looking for and they account for garment changes like shrinking. They never try to upsell or pressure me into buying anything. I went here just to look around but stayed for 2+ hours trying on different jeans. The people there were very patient and friendly and I eventually got a pair of Iron Hearts with hemming included. A couple days later I go back there and they restitched the cuff of my jeans which only took about 5 minutes with no cost. They also said that they'd repair it for free at any time. The selection of the denim is pretty good. They have Samurai, Sugar Cane, Iron Heart, Pure Blue Japan, Studio D'Artisan, and Flat Head from what I can remember. This is probably one of the best places for getting raw and selvedge denim. Its a real nice and fancy little shop. I bought a pair of jeans, and they even chain stitched hemmed it for me in less than a day because I was on a trip from Vancouver and needed to leave the next day. The staff there was very knowledgeable and assisted me in choosing the pair that I bought ( 3sixteen 100x st) They had lots of selection inside their huge cabinet. Just ask them to show you what else they have. Even the changing room was real nice. The curtains were made of selvedge denim, which I thought was really unique. read more

The shop is smaller than the one in LA but there is still plenty of space to feature all sorts of awesome and unique goods. Jonathan was good enough to help me pick up a 3Sixteen Black Watch Cap. I walked out with a new appreciation for well made denim and customer service done right. Tyler- you made that a truly enjoyable shopping experience. This place is fantastic. Super knowledgeable staff and the vibe is very welcoming. This is not a Levi's store though. Getting a great pair of denim that will last a long time is a PROCESS. Tyler Madden, who I believe is the store manager, is phenomenal. He took time with me to to educate me and fit me, and present his products in a very friendly, enthusiastic manner. I am a difficult fit, but Tyler found a great pair for me. I am new to selvedge denim. I did a lot of research about selvedge denim prior to driving to Portland from Seattle specifically to visit Self Edge and get my hands on some quality product as well as an education. So I visited Portland from Canada and stumbled upon this store. Great products and helpful staff. I bought a pair of jeans that thought were cool. They were going to fix them so I left them there and the guy was going to call me. He never did so I went back to the store and told him that my tailor could fix them back home. Then I changed my mind and the next day went back and asked for my money back. The same guy who didn't call me told me that he could only give me "store credit" like if it was Ross that I (living in a different country) could go to their many stores to buy something else. I explained my situation and he said that he was texting one of the owners with my request... Some time later he gave me the results of the consultation that the owner said no. Now needless to say I will never buy there again, but it is clear to me that the "owner" cared more about getting his money than having happy customers.
