It had been about 3 years or so since I had the last service done by an oil company I no longer use. I called Bosse, created an appointment on a Saturday (WOW - those appointments usually get filled quick!) and waited for the day to arrive. They were scheduled to arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. They arrived around 8:30 which was perfect. On time. :-) He spent a good portion of the time just vacuuming out all the soot, etc. since it had been so long since I had it cleaned. (Yes, MY fault.) He then replaced the filter, the nozzle, etc and took a final efficiency reading (82% - which is great!) Price was reasonable and I was extremely happy that he took the time to clean it correctly, even though it was my fault it was so dirty. I tried to give him a tip for putting him through that but he wouldn't accept it. So I thought that would be the end of it until next year, when I will hire them to clean it again. I was wrong. Two days later I was doing my monthly sump pump testing (in the same area as the boiler) by filing the sump pit with water from a hose attached to the Amtrol Water Tank Bladder. Well, I opened up the valve too quickly and the water pressure whipped the hose out of the sump pit and it liberally soaked the entire boiler before I could get it shut off (and we're only talking about 2 seconds here). The water must have fried the electronics (the relay unit) because the boiler stopped working. I shut off power, removed the unit and dried as much of it off as I could but it didn't work. My boiler was down for the count. I called Bosse again and explained the situation. They told me that they are super busy and backed up with service calls because winter is approaching. But they would try to get someone out to look at it. About 2 hours later she called back and said they were still looking. Ten minutes later their truck pulled into my driveway! Woo Hoo! They came in and diagnosed it as a bad relay unit due to "water damage" i.e. my fault. We had a chuckle about that and he promptly replaced the unit. All is fine again and the boiler is working perfectly again. And I vowed to never try to wash and wax my boiler again! So two thumbs up to Bosse!

It was made by Weil-McLain and was under a lifetime warranty. I contacted Absolute Mechanical Systems, and we arranged an appointment for an estimate. I also called my oil company, which sent a salesman. My oil company's quote was $2,653 for a stone-lined water heater (price including labor and removing the old heater). I emailed and called the salesman to see whether he had asked Weil-McLain about the warranty (which he said he would do), but he didn't respond. Curt Woodworth of Absolute Mechanical Systems did contact Weil-McLain. After some back and forth (the company initially wanted proof that I'm the original owner of the water heater, which I am), Curt got the lifetime warranty to apply. Bottom line: Thanks to Curt, I got a new, larger (a 40-gallon as opposed to the exiting 32-gallon) water heater at no cost! With Curt's labor, the total cost of the installation, $1,270, came in at less than half the competitor's quote. Curt was professional, pleasant and prompt. He even pointed out a few other repairs that will require a plumber. I highly recommend him!

Update: This company went from a great experience, to the worst experience. My secondary heat…read moresource went out during the winter and I called for a service checkup. After about 15 minutes of work I was told the condenser had to be replaced due to mice chewing the electrical wires. I could understand this. Here is where the issue comes in. The technician first said it would be $3400 to replace. He then went to his truck and came back to tell my wife it would actually be $8,000, but they added a discount so I would Pay $6,000. The total cost of the whole install (condenser unit + 4 wall units) was 12,000. So just to replace the condenser is over half the cost of the initial install. I called to complain and spoke with the service manager. The service manager essentially explained to me that this was accurate because if they did the install today it would be 23,000. So they evidently had a 100% price increase. I then explained the invoice showed the unit itself as 2,000 and then labor as 6,000. He explained to me that was untrue, that due to the new invoice system they have, they can just put numbers anywhere essentially, so I should ignore the invoice. I explained my frustration and how that does not make any sense and I am not paying 6,000 for a condenser and labor. He said he understood and would escalate it higher and I would get a call later that day or the next. It's going on 3 days now and I have not heard back. This company went from one of my top rated to near highway robbery. I cannot reccomend them to anyone at this point, and will need to look into alternatives to get my heat back in the winter.
