We ordered the salted Carmel ice cream and it was fantastic! The smoothness of the ice cream goes great with the soft, yet crunchy halva! The consistency of both complement each other very well. I loved the creaminess of the ice cream and the halva was such a great addition for the topping! Next time I'm in New York, I will have to stop by and try some new flavors because the ice cream is one of my favorites! I came here on a Monday at about 10:30am. I've loved their halva for some time and stop here once in a while to get a few free samples, and buy a quarter pound. I love black sesame flavored anything. After seeing a few pictures recently posted of the black sesame flavor, I had to come try it. But of course they didn't have it today. They said they might next week, but I'll definitely call before I come next time. On my many visits here, I've never seen them have this flavor. I tried the Coffee and Marzipan flavors. They were both ok. I ended up getting the chocolate orange, as that has been my favorite for a while. I have a feeling once I try the black sesame, that will be my new favorite. They charge by weight. $7 for 1/4 pound (their smallest size). Or $28 per pound. A little pricey. But it has worked for them for a while, as halva is not super easy to find. As it becomes more available. They might need to review their prices. They still have the best selection of flavors, but I'm seeing halva pop up in grocery stores for much cheaper. We were looking for something sweet and Seed + Mill looked promising. It seems like the company is focused on fresh and organic ingredients throughout all the desserts they sell at their locations. We both opted for the Goat Milk Ice Cream, Tahini flavored ($5) in a cone (additional $1.50) with Halva-Bites ($.50). The ice cream itself tasted really great! The halva-bites added for a a hearty organic taste which paired nicely with the flavor of the ice cream. Overall a good, sweet treat. However, definitely beyond the price point of what I'd usually pay for ice cream on a regular day. The location itself is modern and easy to order from. They have tables and high top chairs next to the store so it should be easy to find seating. If you're in Chelsea Market and looking for a more organic option when it comes to your dessert I'd definitely give Seed + Mill a chance to impress you. read more

I tried 3 flavors (espresso was my favorite 1) and thought they were nice desserts to have with hot tea. They are on the sweet side so it is nice to pair it with something less sweet. I've never had Halva before or even knew what it was so it was exciting to try something new. We sampled the pistachio and the 70% dark chocolate. Wanted to try and sample the cocoa nibs but there were no crumbles that had fallen off from precious slices. We ended up getting the goat's milk ice cream with the toppings on top, the employee graciously let us have the 70% dark chocolate since there were very few crumbs left. Normally it's a mix of all the toppings. Not sure I would eat the goat's milk ice cream again because the flavor reminds me of a farm but I'll likely have halva again! we were blown away with their unique flavors! located inside of chelsea market, this was another great find of ours when we were wandering around the place. although many people come for their ice cream, our stomachs were a bit too full and instead we tried their halva. now, our question was... what is halva?? it is made out of tahini (which is a seasame butter) and has a SUPER rich sesame flavor which brings out such a delicate scent. it does stick to your teeth so if you don't like sesame, this is not the dessert for you. however, for us, we grew up loving anything with sesame and it smelled so sweet and brought out so many fond memories. we got the black sesame which was a little too sweet, pistachio which was our favorite and a chocolate sea salt flavor. for $7 per quarter pound, this place adds up quickly and is on the more expensive end. i would say it is worth trying. all the flavors are super-rich, they bring out the sesame flavor very well. i would love to give their ice cream a try next time. this is a great gift to bring back to your friends and family as it is unique and not sold at many places. this is my first time seeing this type of dessert and they give out free samples. very different, flavors can end up tasting the same since it is all sesame based. read more

I absolutely love this place. I also love halvah. I live in a city where I have easy access to imported halvah of various brands and from various countries. But I always wait for my next trip to NYC to get the freshest halvah from this place. Their halvah is soft and not too firm, unlike the prepackaged halvah you get from stores. They also have a variety of flavors to choose from. Halvah can be an acquired taste for some. It's like a sesame fudge. It is grainy and quite sweet and definitely rich. If you're going to try halvah foe the first time, I definitely recommend Seed + Mill for a good experience. I cannot bring myself to buy grocery halvah after trying halvah here. Although sweet as it's supposed to be, it is less sweet than your average grocery store halvah which also leads me to believe the sesame content (and therefore flavor) is a lot higher. It's also an awesome topper for plain Greek yogurt since it's sweet. Flavors: Cardamom - definitely their strongest flavored halvah. You have to like cardamom to like this flavor. My favorite. Salted caramel - one of the sweeter ones, the swirl wasn't that consistent in my second slice so the flavor got a little plain. Chili Chocolate - tasty and a little kick is nice in cold weather. Light chocolate taste. White chocolate raspberry - one of the sweeter varieties, it's my new favorite. The raspberry is consistent through the and not overpowering. White chocolate lemon - although not a favorite, I really like this one because there are candied lemon throughout and a fun summery twist. Coffee - very consistent in flavor since its ground coffee mixed with halvah. One of their less sweet varieties. Marzipan - plain. It's like plain halvah with a slab of marzipan on top of the cake. So it's not that consistent. Can't remember what else I tried. I did try their goat milk ice cream and I just don't like goat milk and wouldn't get it. The goat milk flavor wasn't overpowering but it's just not for me. Everyone here has always been so friendly, informative, passionate about the product, and has always offered samples. I recently received halvah from here shipped to Houston in the hot humid weather and it held up fine. The oil seemed to seep out more than normal but it was fine after being refrigerated. *vegan review* Was so happy to come across this gem in Chelsea Market! I had heard about this place and I love tahini, so naturally I had to try their halva. The ladies at the counter were polite and happy to answer questions. They also have a plate of samples - we tried the "marble" (vanilla+chocolate) and it was delicious! A warning that the nutty and slightly bitter sesame flavour is very strong, so if you're not into that, halva might not be for you. For my vegan/dairy-free friends - all of their halva flavours are clearly denoted and most are vegan besides the obvious few (like the Nutella, coconut dulce de leche, and white chocolate raspberry). We bought a small pre-sliced chunk of the rose oil halva. The texture is soft and crumbly but firm enough to hold together - it does get messy though, so be careful with that! As soon as you put it in your mouth it melts on your tongue. I had to stop myself from eating the whole piece! The flavour was spot-on, with the light fragrance and sweetness of the rose blending perfectly with the creamy and bitter sesame base. Again, if you don't like the flavour of tahini or sesame seeds, halva might not be your cup of tea. Will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Chelsea Market to try their other flavours! I know that goat milk tahini soft serve sounds very weird, but it is very good. Seed + Mill's soft serve is so good - I am a huge fan. I typically don't like really sweet desserts, and for me, this is perfect. As strange as the flavor combination sounds, you can really taste the tahini AND goat milk. There's that sort of nutty taste that pairs really well with the "goaty" taste of the milk. There's some sweetness but it is not super creamy and heavy. Overall, I would say I could eat a lot of this very easily. I would for sure go back to get more if given the opportunity. I would also want to try the halvas that Seed + Milk has.
