See eyewear is located off of King Street in Charleston. There is a parking lot located conveniently directly across the street so there's quick easy access. My partner has been going to cee for many years and her and her family absolutely loves it. Everyone is so welcoming and the doctors are always very thorough. The extent of care that they provide is absolutely amazing. They have very unique fashionable frame styles. Shauni and Kelly are always super helpful and welcoming! We love See so much that we commute from Columbia for every appointment!

In the words of the movie Clueless, never trust mirrors... always take polaroids.

After reading some of the other reviews I am a little surprised. I have bought my last two pairs of glasses and brought in two friends who have both bought glasses here. The sticker price on the glasses is a bit high but they leave some room for negotiations. You have a couple options here. They run Groupons from time to time (which I used on one of my pairs) where you pay $50 for $200. So basically walk in and take $150 of any pair in the place. Not bad. They also send out $100 off coupons in the mail every few months if you get on their mailing list. Lastly, for my first pair, I haggled with the clerk and she ended up giving me $150 off anyway. Just stay away from the extra coatings and stuff.... but all opticians try to get you with that, even Wal-Mart. The deal is that they are supplying new frames in the most current styles without the designer price tag. Off the rack, it pretty much is designer price tag, but if you use one of my foolproof methods above, you should get a reasonable deal. I haven't had any problems with durability and I'm not always the most careful with them. I get more compliments on my current pair of glasses than any article of clothing I have owned... ever... combined. I agree with the comments about Todd. He knows his stuff. I haven't had a problem with anyone else just that sometimes there is a wait if they are tied up with other customers (There is usually never more than two or maybe three employees at any given time). Not really a problem though. Every time I have brought my glasses in for any type of adjustments (purchased at See or not) they are more than happy to help me out with no charge. It seems that some other customers just didn't SEE the light.... get it.... "SEE" is the name of the store.... AND they sell glasses. You don't get the joke? Maybe you need some glasses.... go pick some up at SEE and read it again.

I have THE best experiences with SEE. The glasses are super trendy. I've purchased at least 4 pairs now over the past few years and I have gotten a ton of compliments on every pair. Being a hairstylist I have a pretty bold sense of style and they have been able to fulfill my needs every single time. I get compliments all day! Kelly is incredible to work with. I love being styled with her great choices. She totally gets what I'm after. A++ Stop in here if you are in Charleston, you won't regret it.

I know it's taken me forever to leave this review and I guess it's partly because I feel silly for being so deeply excited for a pair of glasses, but I'm going to push that away and try to make this review make sense. From the first time I walked into SEE, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. I'd just gotten done working an 8-hour shift in a kitchen, probably stunk, and was definitely looking a little worse for the wear. No matter! I tried on nearly every set of frames in the store and not once did I get the vibe that I was a bother. At that time I knew I wasn't ready to commit to large ticket glasses but the holidays were coming up and after 7 years with the same glasses, I felt like I was entitled to some new ones- so new glasses were the only item on my Christmas list this year. After getting the ball rolling in the store, I was able to make an appointment to get my eyes checked. The doctor could not have been friendlier, more personable, and easy to understand. She answered every question I had thoroughly and in a way I was able to understand without feeling like I was being talked down to. Also she has the cutest fkn dog I've ever seen and he's my new friend. With all of my holiday wishes coming true, I finally ordered the new glasses. I was so excited. Ever since first walking into the store, getting new glasses had become part of my LIFE. I told everyone that I was getting new glasses, and glasses that I was excited to wear!! My old frames were thick black plastic squares- the quintessential nerd or hipster glasses. I'm not that person anymore. I'm much more adult and sophisticated now, or at least I like to think so. I've gone back twice since receiving the glasses for fit adjustments and each time the folks were happy to help, and took extra special care making sure my glasses were perfectly even and feeling good. I'm finally truly excited to wear a pair of glasses!...and that hasn't happened in a long time! I don't recall a single pair of glasses I've owned that have actually boosted my confidence, but I think these ones do! Thank you SEE team!! Thank you all so much. I genuinely couldn't be happier with the process or the final product. TLDR: Great people. Very friendly doctor. Exceptional canine greeter. Hot glasses = hotter you. 10/10 recommend.

First. Shawny Graham is the bomb.com and helped me out tremendously! Very nice folks. However I just noticed that the lenses on my two tone shades aren't fully set in the frame. I can see the edge of the frame and I can scrunch it in place but it just bounces right back. It isn't bad enough to where I feel the lens will pop out but I def can tell they aren't fully set and I feel like that isn't normal. After all these shades are not a five dollar special. Super cute though and they aren't made in China! Overall, I call it a win. PS my Oakley's were garbage with horrible lenses, cheap plastic and fell apart... SEE was my re-up option. Toodles

Beware, and fair warning. (updated to include that I did…read morereceive a refund) I paid $445.02 out of pocket (no insurance) for an eye exam, contact lens fitting, and glasses. More than two months later, I have neither working contacts nor working glasses. My comprehensive exam on July 21 was performed almost entirely by a technician who introduced herself to me as an intern. She did all of the testing, including the refraction that determines your prescription. The practice's website describes her role as pre-testing, special testing, contact lens ordering, and assisting the doctor. What I experienced was her running the entire exam. The doctor came in at the end for a short visit, briefly explained one finding, and prescribed a medicated drop. He never asked about my goals, never asked what I do for work, and never discussed the images of my eyes that were sitting right there on the screen. For a self-pay comprehensive exam, I expected far more of the doctor's time and attention than what felt like a brush-off. Everything built on that foundation went wrong. Over the following weeks I was given three different trial pairs of contacts. Two of the three were the wrong type of lens entirely: the first had no astigmatism correction, and the second had no multifocal correction at all, which was the whole reason I came in. The third pair was finally the right category, but still not the right prescription. At one point I received a text that a trial pair was ready, went in to pick it up, and it wasn't there. It felt like nobody in the office was communicating about what had already been tried. The glasses were no better. Two separate sets of lenses, both wrong, neither close. They did remake the lenses once at no charge, but the second attempt missed too. Nobody asked what I needed the glasses for or how far my screen sits from my eyes, even though I do detailed graphic design work on a computer all day. I also never received a walkthrough of lens options and what each one costs before ordering. I returned the final set of lenses on September 15 and then sent a letter to Dr. Smouse by Certified Mail with Restricted Delivery requesting a refund. It was signed for by front office staff, not by him. He did respond by email and offered a partial refund, which I accepted. I appreciated the response, but my account of the exam and the trial lens process stands. Dr. Smouse himself was personable, and I have no quarrel with his knowledge. But I paid for a process that never produced a working result, with very little doctor involvement and poor coordination behind the scenes. I won't be going back, and I'd encourage you to look elsewhere too. If you do book here, ask exactly who will be performing your exam, and get pricing and lens details in writing before you pay. I hope this helps with your decision. Cheers.

I must say that my experience here has to be in the top experiences ever where my eye care is concerned. I tend to get a little anxious when it comes to the eye doctor, especially new ones, but I felt right at home during my visit. You have a lovely receptionist who was very helpful from appointment setting to payment to ordering new contacts. You offer all the latest in your field, but I never felt pressured to try any the optional tests presented to me. Dr. Zolman was nothing shy of wonderful. He never rushed me, he explained everything he was doing clearly, and he was smiling the entire time. He recommended a new brand of contacts that I am happy I tried; they have worked out great. The biggest perk for me is that you accept Care Credit. You are also close to my house, which is just another reason to rate you 5 stars. I have recommended you to others and will continue to do so. Thank you for making eye care so easy and stress free! I will be back when my eye prescription is up and when I run out of contacts. I can see clearly now, -Minta

Each time, I was told they didn't know where the order was, that they would call the lab, and that I would call me back shortly. Most of the time, I never received that follow-up call, turning the process into constant phone tag with no resolution. As a result, I have been without glasses for over two months. The lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Ultimately, I had to request my prescription and take my business elsewhere. I would not recommend this office based on my experience. I felt that Dr. Zolman was a great eye doctor, but I cannot continue without my glasses like this, and I regret having to leave his practice.

What a bizarre experience…read more Initially, everything seemed fine. The doctor was pleasant, but unfortunately the rest of the experience was not. When I ordered my glasses, I was very clear that I wanted the first lens tier above basic. Instead, I was charged for multiple upgrades I never knowingly agreed to, totaling about $350 more than what I had selected, including a much higher lens tier and transition lenses. I only realized this after looking closely at the itemized receipt. There is absolutely no scenario in which I would intentionally spend over $500 out of pocket, WITH insurance, on one pair of glasses. For perspective, these were basic Ray-Ban frames with progressive lenses, nothing unusually complicated. Between the eye exam and glasses, the total billed amount came to around $1,600. Insurance covered most of it, but that was still the actual total. During the sale, the employee never clearly presented these things as optional upgrades or explained the added cost. She said things like, "And you're going to get..." which made them sound like features included with the glasses I had chosen. This is not my first time buying glasses. I'm familiar with the process. I was just apparently new to this process. I also found a $39 charge for retinal imaging. I was never asked whether I wanted it or told there would be an additional charge. By itself, I probably would not have made a big deal over $39, but in the context of everything else, it was frustrating to find yet another charge I had not knowingly agreed to. Because you cannot contact the store directly, I reached out to Patient Relations that same day. The representative I spoke with was very kind and reasonable. She told me the retinal imaging was an add-on that should be disclosed and consented to, and said she would speak with the store about the lens charges. She felt the fair solution would be for me to pay for the package I had actually requested while still receiving the glasses that had already been made. From the beginning, I said I was perfectly happy with the lower-tier lenses. I just did not want their mistake to delay getting glasses I actually need. About a week and a half later, I finally got a call from Nicholas--which, in hindsight, perhaps should have been my first warning sign: a grown adult man who goes by Nicholas. He told me he had my completed glasses in his hand. He also told me, and I truly wish I were making this up, that the employee who sold them to me did not remember me. However, she believed she WOULD remember if I had NOT requested the expensive package because it is so expensive that most customers do not choose it, and that supposedly would have stood out to her. So, to recap: she did not remember me, did not remember the transaction, but was somehow confident about what I must have requested because... most people do not request it. When I brought up the retinal imaging charge, Nicholas told me it did not matter whether I agreed to it because the doctor "requires it" and I "would have had to pay for it anyway." This was the exact opposite of what Patient Relations had just told me. I explained that, and his response was essentially, no, you have to have it. Who is this person? I finally asked whether I needed to dispute the charge with my credit card company. At that point, my options were: keep the glasses exactly as they were and pay the extra roughly $350 because, as Nicholas repeatedly pointed out, they were "really great glasses," or cancel them, get a refund, reorder the lower-tier lenses I had originally requested, and wait another couple of weeks. So the glasses I needed were literally sitting in his hand, but after I disputed upgrades I never knowingly authorized, the solution was essentially: pay hundreds more and you can have these very nice glasses right now, or start over and wait. Patient Relations ultimately handled the situation professionally, followed up, secured my refund, and addressed the issue appropriately. I appreciate that. But I would absolutely not return to this location. My advice: scrutinize every line of your receipt before leaving and make sure every "you're going to get..." is followed by, "Is that included, or are you charging me extra for it?" Because apparently that distinction matters quite a bit here. Oh, and nIcHoLaS, please spare me the canned response about how much you value every patient's experience. We already had the conversation. Somehow, proving that I must have ordered $350 worth of upgrades that no one remembers selling me seemed to matter more than actually fixing the problem.

I needed new prescription glasses (regular and sun) and looked at half dozen optical shops and…read moreretailers before I decided to order from King St. Vision. My glasses were still usable, but I've had problems working with a desktop computer screen, as well as books and newspapers. Half the time I'd take my glasses off. I was pretty much resigned to getting a pair of special "computer glasses." I got an eye exam and new prescription then did some internet research on Optiboard and elsewhere, and tried to understand how I could get a slightly better functioning pair of progressive lenses. Visiting the various optical shops was an education. It was a difficult process, because at most places, like SEE Eyewear, where I obtained my previous pairs of glasses, the emphasis is on frames and style, and the expertise level of the sales persons/opticians varies. Most of all, there is little transparency in understanding what exactly is the best lens for your specific needs. The emphasis is on selling versus fitting the right types of glasses to the individual. There were several places in town that I thought had good quality products ( message me if you want specific opinions) and opticians. One was Jackson Davenport on King St., others were Eye Center of Charleston, and OuterVision in West Ashley. I already had a new prescription from my optometrist, so all I needed was some expertise in choosing high quality lenses. What made me decide on King St. Vision: Jackson Davenport less than a block away is known as the place for quality eyewear in the city. They had an extensive selection of high quality frames that averaged close to $500 (some were closer to $300). A pair of progressive prescription glasses (Shamir lenses) with appropriate coating was priced over $1,000, not including tax. Sunglasses were a bit more because of the extra cost of polarizing lenses. I figured it would cost me close to $3,000 for a pair of regular glasses and prescription sunglasses. To me, this was too much--especially considering the fact that I had lost my previous pair of sunglasses. King St. Vision is owned by Dr. Reiheld, an optometrist who works in the shop and offers exams as well. I explained what I wanted, he described the options, and his recommendations. He looked at my prescription, listened to my issues with working with computers, etc. and closely examined my present pair of glasses. He offered to do an exam to fine tune the prescription if need be. After doing so, he told me that the less expensive lenses would probably work as well as the Shamir brand that JD uses exclusively or the Varilux used elsewhere. If the less expensive brand lenses didn't work, he'd order the Shamir or Varilux lenses. The lenses would still have high quality Zeiss coating, and would be made of Trivex. What the heck. I ordered them. I've had the new glasses for a month and they are excellent--somehow the view corridor is such is that I can read the desktop screen as well as books, etc. without craning my neck or removing my glasses. After living with the new glasses for several weeks I went ahead and ordered prescription sunglasses. Received those recently and they are also working better than expected. Price-wise both sets of glasses were not inexpensive but they were nowhere near the pricier option offered elsewhere. To be more specific, they were less than half the price of the JD eyewear, although to be fair, the frame isn't as fashionable and high-tech, and the lenses are not made by Shamir. We shall see....I'll update this review if there are any substantive changes....
