Who walks into an optical shop during their vacation...ME! I am so glad I did because the styles, selection, and customer service was so great! SEE is not like your Warby Parker or anything like that... its in a class of its own. These styles are first come, first serve .. you got it, you're one of a kind awesomeness! After reading some of the other reviews I am a little surprised. I have bought my last two pairs of glasses and brought in two friends who have both bought glasses here. The sticker price on the glasses is a bit high but they leave some room for negotiations. You have a couple options here. They run Groupons from time to time (which I used on one of my pairs) where you pay $50 for $200. So basically walk in and take $150 of any pair in the place. Not bad. They also send out $100 off coupons in the mail every few months if you get on their mailing list. Lastly, for my first pair, I haggled with the clerk and she ended up giving me $150 off anyway. Just stay away from the extra coatings and stuff.... but all opticians try to get you with that, even Wal-Mart. The deal is that they are supplying new frames in the most current styles without the designer price tag. Off the rack, it pretty much is designer price tag, but if you use one of my foolproof methods above, you should get a reasonable deal. I haven't had any problems with durability and I'm not always the most careful with them. I get more compliments on my current pair of glasses than any article of clothing I have owned... ever... combined. I agree with the comments about Todd. He knows his stuff. I haven't had a problem with anyone else just that sometimes there is a wait if they are tied up with other customers (There is usually never more than two or maybe three employees at any given time). Not really a problem though. Every time I have brought my glasses in for any type of adjustments (purchased at See or not) they are more than happy to help me out with no charge. It seems that some other customers just didn't SEE the light.... get it.... "SEE" is the name of the store.... AND they sell glasses. You don't get the joke? I know it's taken me forever to leave this review and I guess it's partly because I feel silly for being so deeply excited for a pair of glasses, but I'm going to push that away and try to make this review make sense. From the first time I walked into SEE, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. I'd just gotten done working an 8-hour shift in a kitchen, probably stunk, and was definitely looking a little worse for the wear. No matter! I tried on nearly every set of frames in the store and not once did I get the vibe that I was a bother. At that time I knew I wasn't ready to commit to large ticket glasses but the holidays were coming up and after 7 years with the same glasses, I felt like I was entitled to some new ones- so new glasses were the only item on my Christmas list this year. After getting the ball rolling in the store, I was able to make an appointment to get my eyes checked. The doctor could not have been friendlier, more personable, and easy to understand. She answered every question I had thoroughly and in a way I was able to understand without feeling like I was being talked down to. Also she has the cutest fkn dog I've ever seen and he's my new friend. With all of my holiday wishes coming true, I finally ordered the new glasses. I was so excited. Ever since first walking into the store, getting new glasses had become part of my LIFE. I told everyone that I was getting new glasses, and glasses that I was excited to wear!! My old frames were thick black plastic squares- the quintessential nerd or hipster glasses. I'm not that person anymore. I'm much more adult and sophisticated now, or at least I like to think so. I've gone back twice since receiving the glasses for fit adjustments and each time the folks were happy to help, and took extra special care making sure my glasses were perfectly even and feeling good. I'm finally truly excited to wear a pair of glasses!...and that hasn't happened in a long time! First. Shawny Graham is the bomb.com and helped me out tremendously! Very nice folks. However I just noticed that the lenses on my two tone shades aren't fully set in the frame. I can see the edge of the frame and I can scrunch it in place but it just bounces right back. It isn't bad enough to where I feel the lens will pop out but I def can tell they aren't fully set and I feel like that isn't normal. After all these shades are not a five dollar special. Super cute though and they aren't made in China! Overall, I call it a win. PS my Oakley's were garbage with horrible lenses, cheap plastic and fell apart... SEE was my re-up option. I too have worn glasses since the 3rd grade, and I am more than knowledgeable on what goes into the price of nice frames, and lenses. Expensive for what you get, and I totally agree on most points with what the others before me complained about. I can see how someone may consider some of the employees to be "condescending", but for the most part they seem nice enough. The product I received seems to be middle grade on quality, I hope that I never fall asleep in these frames. They have many ways they inflate the price on your glasses, so be careful. Glasses done in a day is not going to happen here either; and they actually had the nerve to charge me postage to send them to my home address. Unless I see something that I will totally fall in love with at SEE, I will not be buying anymore glasses from them. read more

Like many others, I bought a Groupon for $40 which is good for $200 worth of prescription glasses. I don't buy glasses frequently -- my last pair is probably 7 years old, so I am not an expert glasses-buyer. That being said, a few things to note: - The fine print on the Groupon says you can't use the Groupon for the 'SEE Core Collection' which is very vague. This collection includes the least expensive frames at $169. I probably would have bought from this collection if it was not excluded. You must buy the expensive frames which range from $200-$400ish. - You MUST buy the lenses there to use the Groupon. So what you see on the ticket price is not what you will walk out the door paying. My receipt included my frames ($200), single vision Polycarbonate ($100), polish edge ($10) and premium anti-reflective coating ($100). Not very sure what any of these are and variations were never offered/discussed with me. I bought the Groupon for $40 and ended up paying an extra $117 for everything, the woman said she gave me an additional discount, whatever that means. I was also not offered a different thickness/type of lens as mentioned in prior Yelp reviews. - Your prescription must be less than 1 year old. I had to have an eye exam performed which they perform in-house for $69 which is actually a good deal as I called around. Even cheaper than Costco. - It takes about a week and a half - two weeks for your glasses to be ready for pickup. At the end of the day I paid about $215 for the Groupon, a complete pair of new glasses and an eye exam. I like the style, they were made in Italy and seem to be high quality. read more

I've gotten at least five pair of glasses here, and they've all been super high quality, and the customer service has been impeccable. Kelly is extremely knowledgable about the products, and was always a big help in picking out glasses that fit my face and personality. In the one case where I had a minor issue (a screw fell out, and I lost it), Dawn sent me a postage-paid box, and fixed them for me, no questions asked. I couldn't be happier with my experience. Everytime I walk out of this store i leave frustrated, irritated, and ripped off I bought a pair of plastic frames with scratch protection and anti glare about a year and a half ago and within a month they snapped but luckily, i was able to receive a new pair. over a year later my lenses became so worn down with minor scratches that they (according to my eye doctor) were impairing my vision and essentially affecting my prescription, even though i had scratch protection. I have been wearing glasses since the age of 5 and have never had glasses affected by daily use in this way. So, I was on the market again for a new pair of frames because I was unsatisfied with the quality of SEE. Then my frames snapped Again, and I was forced to buy a new pair (an unexpected $230 expense) from them because they snapped outside of their only one year warranty. I s given a new style of frames because my current style had been discontinued and i was stuck with another pair of SEE frames that i didnt want and did pay for. Those frames snapped just weeks later. I updated my prescription and came in to select frames that i did actually want (they offered to switch them out with my previously unwanted pair which was helpful) and order thin lenses to combat my thick prescription, anti scratch and anti glare (which at this point is really just throwing money at them because it doesnt seem to work) and was given a bill of $183 on top of the $230 i thought would cover lenses+frames. Their frames, quality of service, and quality of product are not worth the amount on their price tags. I cancelled my order and am now beginning this process with a new company. Consequently, I am getting just as stylish frames for $125 elsewhere and am taking a loss on the $230 for worthless frames I had to buy from SEE. read more

Their frames are the answer to all that is hip and cool at the moment. They have everything you could possibly dream of in every silly color. The two ladies working at the time were happy to let me wander around and try on everything, I mean, I'm talking everything from Harry Potter, to plain Jane conservative, to bright blue Revenge of the Nerds. I absolutely love SEE eyewear! They have the most original eyewear selection around (and by around, I mean nationally - no, seriously). The staff at the Charleston store is amazing - the true epitome of great customer service. I drive from Savannah (2.5 hours away) just to shop at SEE. If you're there, ask for Amy; she is great at gauging your personal style and pulling many selections for you to try out. There were other employees there helping other customers as well, and I am sure they are just as great! Every customer seemed very satisfied with their service. When I returned to pick up my glasses he even remembered my name. This eyewear store is so much more then your typical glasses shop... at first I was sceptical, the location was on a very busy touristy area. So right away i was thinking big bucks and high sales pressure. However... the wife got me to go in anyway. To my pleasent surprise I didn't spend a arm and a leg or even feel a bit of pressure. I've taken alot of knowledge out of every visit I've had here. The atmosphere is such a happy energetic place. Every time I go into SEE, it really makes my day. Everyone is always so helpful and very positive. They are all very patient with me in taking my time trying on glasses. I have probably tried on every eye glass in the store...twice. They are very knowledgeable from knowing about eye care, insurance, glass fitting and styles. One, they couldn't get one pair of my wife's new glasses adjusted properly, so she has never been able to use them. Money down the drain. Two, I have asked both this store and the corporate HQ--via mail, phone and email--to stop sending me junk postal mail, and they just never quit. Conclusion, if they're so clueless that they can't do something as simple as removing you from their postal junk mail list, why would you trust them with something as relatively complex as making prescription eyeglasses? So I've been wanting a pair of "geek chic" glasses for awhile now. Like a lot of other people, I saw the Groupon and thought "$40 for $200! What a great deal!" And you think it would be, I certainly did, but yeah, notsomuch. That $200 is going to (maybe) pay for your frames depending on how expensive your taste is and then you're left purchasing the lenses out of pocket. And this is where they get ya, folks. SEE offers three different thicknesses of lenses. They'll first try to sell you on their thinnest lenses which will set you back over $300. I freaking kid you not. The next thickest lenses cost around $240, while their thickest lenses are around $180 (don't quote me on all these numbers, though they're pretty close). Ask to see a sample of their lenses. Their thickest lenses are a joke. They are like old school Steve Urkel thick lenses and they're plastic! I think they offer these lenses just because they know they're so ludicrous that they force people into getting the more expensive lenses. So I ended up going with the medium thickness and the salesgirl said she'd make a note to try to make them a little thinner for me, which I definitely appreciated. If I had it to do over again, I would not have bought my Groupon. I just can't justify spending $300 ($500 w/out the Groupon) for a pair of glasses I'll only wear occasionally since I wear contacts 75% of the time. But in their defense, I really should've priced out the total cost and not just the frames before buying that Groupon. So that's on me. Instead, I'd get another pair from Warby Parker for only $100 (lenses and frames). I hate to bring up another business but in this case, I have to. WP has some really nice trendy glasses, a lot of them being extremely similar to SEE's. They even have an almost identical pair to the ones I got from SEE (drats!), though most of them are not as funky and colorful as SEE's selection. WP also has a really awesome & completely free home try-on program. Plus, my pair of WP's have held up beautifully for the past year that I've had them (even after sleeping in them repeatedly). I debated on giving SEE two stars but I had to give that extra star because despite their ungodly prices, so far I'm digging my glasses and I really enjoyed my experience with them. I went into SEE to get a new pair of frames because I had a really good Groupon. I also got my eye exam here. Everybody working there from the top down were all really nice and extremely helpful. They worked with me to find the perfect frames for my style and face. SEE is kind of pricey and normally I would not have purchased frames from them but the frames are a lot better quality than what you would get at a Lenscrafters or a store like that. I had a problem with my lenses after I ordered them because one was the wrong prescription but the employees at SEE quickly fixed the problem and had me in the right lenses in no time. Overall, SEE does sell pretty expensive frames but they are of good quality and the employees are all really nice. read more

I was contacted within an hour of posting this review. They worked promptly to understand the problem and offered to fix my glasses for free-as this was clearly a manufacturer error. It took about a week and I picked up my glasses yesterday. They gave me new lenses and a new frame. They look great. I am hoping they will continue to look great. The employees at SEE assured me that they spoke with the lab manager in order to make sure my glasses were done correctly. I will surely update this again if I start to see the same deterioration as before. I really do love the glasses so I hope this was a one time error. read more

I've worn glasses since the third grade so I feel qualified to state that SEE is more hype than substance. The frames I chose seemed "fragile", but only after I'd worn them for awhile did I realize that the fragility is from a poorly made product. Once the mgr started all the add-on fees to the frames, they ended up costing close to $600, and I opted out of the "coated" lens to save some money. What a racket. In addition, the mgr was condescending (I'm not young), and solicitous. I won't EVER buy anything from SEE again just based on that. read more
