First of all, this friendly fast talking door-to-door salesman, Jared Mundy, caught me outside putting up Christmas directions. I listened to his spiel and he not only promised that I would have additional equipment, but he would give me a $10/mth discount and he could also switch my electricity from Cirro to Reliant and the savings would offset the cost of the security system. He gave me his contact info, etc. After I'd signed up and they switched my existing system, installed 2 security cameras and replaced my Honeywell wireless thermostat with theirs, he won't respond to texts or return my calls. The thermostat is terrible, the wireless cameras are excellent quality but don't record, what's the point of those unless I happen to be looking at it when a burglar breaks in? My wife called again to cancel and they give her an email address and said she would have to request cancel by email. I did request cancel by email but no response. We tried to have them set-up a new security system for our new home and when issues came up with travel to the location due to Covid-19, they were thoroughly disinterested in making any effort to accommodate allowing a representative of ours to facilitate the installation. I've been a loyal customer for over 3 years. I'm a loyal reliant energy customer also. Apparently when you fall on hard times , like now with covid and being unemployed, they allow you to pay partial payment but the security system is inactivated. They take partial payment but then disconnect the alarm. I had an emergency admittance into the hospital and couldn't let my son into our house. They don't care at all about customers. 12/22/16 Update: I got a call from a Reliant Security Operations Manager and ultimately he was able to confirm that I was misinformed by a member of the Reliant Security team. He resolved this matter for me and was very professional. My original 1 star review was solely based on my original complications of cancelling service because of moving. I have adjusted my review because the actual security service was very good and did everything as promised. I loved the app and the remote capabilities. The cameras were super clear and when the alarm was tripped (My siberian husky's high pitched howl triggered the glass break sensor) their team was highly responsive. I highly recommend the services and if you would potentially be moving at some point within their traditional agreement term, I'd ask if they have others available. ___________ Original Review: Avoid at all costs. I work a job where we get moved around a lot and I expressed my concern with the 3 year contract and the sales representative and install both said there will be no fee if I move to a place where they do not provide service. I have called them and they are trying to charge me 3 years of the service for the termination. They have told me they will review the information and check and get back to me. It's very unfair and bad business that they try to levy a fee on you for moving because they don't operate nationally. I signed up for the bundled home security system with Reliant and ever since I signed up for this, it has been nothing but problems. Initially I was supposed to get $15.00 multi service discount which I did for 5 months. Now I am getting a $10 discount and a mysterious reoccurring monthly charge of $5.41 to my credit card then it gets credited to my account and no one in billing can figure out why. Reliant Energy and reliant home security operate as two different companies with the only benefit is to receive a multi-service discount that will only make your bill that much harder to read and you better be checking your bill because when you least expect it they will remove the multi-service discount. Reliant is an unethical company with shady business practices, ONLY looking to cram any charges on your bill when you least expect it. Beware!!!! read more

Terrible service. I have been a customer for 1 year & in that time I have received 0 invoices. I called the first couple of months & was told that they must have been lost in the mail. At month 3 I received the Past due notice in the mail. I called and again was told that the invoices must have been lost in the mail. I asked then how is it the Past due notice made it to my home? DO. NOT. USE. THIS. SERVICE. My wife and I signed a 3 year contract when we bought our house in Katy, with no intentions to move. When we signed the contact we were informed that there was a "fee to cancel" but that we "shouldn't worry" because if we moved you could have the services transferred at no cost and that there were "a lot of ways around the fee" if you moved to an area they don't cover. At this point we were not informed what the fee was or how is was assessed, however, we have had nothing but a great experience with Reliant Energy and figured there Security service must operate under the same company philosophy. Fast Forward 20 months and I am contacted by a company I used to compete with (sales) and am offered my dream job with an excellent relocation package. We are excited and jump at the opportunity. We sell our house in 5 days and call Reliant to have the utilities turned off. They were nothing but professional and helpful, went off without a hitch.... and then we called the security team. Not only did the security team explain that the fee (get to this in a second) is binding even though we are moving to an area where they can not provide service but that the only way to not have to pay a fee other than transferring service is to have someone else agree to absorb the remaining time on your contract. Now what is the fee you might ask? 75% of the remaining balance of the contact.... 75% So basically they will hold you hostage to a, in my case $500, fee unless you can find someone dumb enough to take the remaining balance of the contract after hearing about the ordeal that I just went through. I am in sales and it is absolutely crazy to me that this company would treat customers in this manner and it is easily the most unprofessional experience of my adult life. I would not recommend or use Reliant Security Services again under any circumstances and I will be filing a claim with the BBB following this review. read more

Worst alarm company. Do not recommend. My camera it's been out for over two weeks and they will not send a texh out because I haven't reached to someone in tier 3. i have had security-reliant since 2017 2yrs., to be exact and had have to have the doorbell camera replaced due to wasn't recording when individuals rang my doorbell. i have to call on a monthly bases because doorbell camera stops recording or just lose signal., i have been told that the manufacturer of the doorbell camera knows the issue but have not resolved the issue. my other issue is the billing security-reliant wants to charge you for two billing cycles in one month how is that possible. i cant get a valid answer know more than my billing cycle for my energy bill isn't the same as security cycle (not my problem). read more

We were visited by one of the sales reps for the security system at our business, he first claimed that we would see our electricity bill go down by about 15% and that the price was not going to raise the current bill much, immediately after he said that he called someone in Reliant Corporate where they just repeated the opposite of what he was offering, my boss was a bit confused then but somehow agreed and the bill went up 3x higher and they want 75% to cancel contract, we have all the audio recordings so we will be filing a complaint with the BBB for trying to con local businesses. read more

Absolutely the biggest mistake I have ever made signing on with Reliant Security. It has been a complete joke since Day 1. Im 2 years in to a 3 yr contract which I can't wait to cancel. Cameras never work and there is no tech support available to troubleshoot. It is a major ordeal to repeatedly have to have someone come out here.....I've given up on the cameras-- so I'm paying for something that doesn't work. Honestly, I don't think they're even monitoring these systems. Their customer service department is laughable. It's a never ending loop getting transferred from one clueless individual to another. Invoices never get to me but the past due notices certainly do.. I've accidentally set my system off on a couple of occasions and never got a call from their monitoring center. I have zero confidence in this company's ability to monitor and get emergency crews here if the need ever arises. I could go on and on about the incompetence of Reliant Home Security but I will suffice it to say this: find someone else....anyone else. Whatever you do, don't make this mistake. read more

I hope this happens to know one else. This company took advantage of my elderly mother. Apparently Security by Reliant (Essential Security) used low prices to attract my mother. After getting an appointment and meeting a rep in person, she was told that the price advertised was unavailable. She got it any way, and now finds out that she's locked into a 5 year contract. They don't tell the customer about the contract and they don't tell the customer about the costly penalty for breaking a contract, you were not made aware of. For my mother, the cost would be $1300.00 to get out of the contract. She no longer can afford to pay for the services, so surely she cannot pay the amount to break their contract. I am speaking with the company repeatedly and each time I get switched to a 3rd person before I get to the so called security department. This company is really named Essential Security. Their charges come attached to your Reliant electricity bill, but Reliant can't help you. You will get transferred and on the 3rd call you get someone rude.......each time. You will notice the difference between them and the Reliant employee. Also you get a $5.00 credit on your bill for using a packaged service, then the $5.00 is charged back to you as the cost of a protection plan. My mother is elderly and this is the kind of predatory services she is afraid of. The security charges are attached to my mother's electricity bill but under the name Essential Security. You must call before 4 pm or you will not get them; you get an answering service. And, they don't return your call, you have to repeatedly call them. read more

They do not have enough customer support service personnel and when you have a problem they take a long time to repair and you get no credit for the down time. Beware of this service because they get you to sign a long term contract and you cannot get out of it even with the problems. Loved my installation tech. He was very knowledgeable. I liked that I received notifications via email of my appointment installation. The following day the tech arrived just in time and took his time to install motion sensors, door sensors, panel, doorbell and lock. Over all I was very satisfied with the information that I was given and the installation process. Tech was very respectful with all of this COVID that is going. From the initial period from the sales team when I initially signed up. Everyone has been very friendly and very informative I am very pleased that I choose reliant security. They also send you an email letting you know that you need an alarm permit but if this is your 1st time getting home security you should get an alarm permit. If this is your 2nd time getting security you most ready know that most counties require an alarm permit in order to have home security. read more

We've had Security by Reliant for almost 4 years now. We have had continued camera issues, connectivity issues, communication issues (or lack there of really) and several thefts that we can't do anything about thanks to our cameras not doing their job. I am exhausted by the terrible and lacking customer service. I had come to expect better from this company (Reliant) that we have been using for the last 10 years. I'm extremely disappointed that I reached out multiple times and never got a response. So thank your for making a Security company that in theory is sound but in practice is nothing more than a glorified hole for money sucking executives. Not only am I out 150$ in merchandise that was stolen, that should have very well been caught on camera, I now have to take time off work to have a new "actual"Security Company come out and do the job I've been trying to get Reliant to do for years. Maybe next time Reliant considers expanding into another area, they'll actually take into account the responsibility of their decisions. read more

There has been numerous occasions where my alarm has gone off while I was at home and I only received 2 check in calls in the 8 months I've had them. I am very disappointed with Reliant Security. I was called several times when I moved to Texas by a representative to try and get me to sign up for security. I felt very pressured as a young, newly married woman to get the security system for my safety. She stated that it would be a 36-month contract and I expressed that I did not know if we would be in the area for that long. She stated that we could transfer the service to the new owner if needed. She also stated that if the new owner did not want the service it would not be a problem for us to get out of it as long as we we not in a service area. Well, we had to move in July for my husband's job after a year and are having to pay over $800 to cancel the service. I cannot help that my husband is being relocated for work. On the phone I was told there is nothing they can do. Also, a payment plan is not even an option. I don't think any normal person has $800 sitting around to spend. I am very upset and frustrated with this situation. I don't feel like they are working with me at all. I feel like they are out to get your money and don't care about individual situations.
