When we did our home remodel one of our contractors suggested Seconds and Surplus for some of our products, which we regret getting because everything we bought, which was a farmhouse kitchen sink, a faucet with a pull down sprayer and a Craftsman front door ended up not worth it. Don't get me wrong, everything looks good, but the quality and craftsmanship of each product is low grade. We had to replace the faucet because the sprayer stopped working. We got a Kohler instead and couldn't be happier. Our farmhouse sink just doesn't drain properly. There isn't enough slope from the 4 corners of the sink to drain downwards towards the drain. You have to use your hand to move any food towards the drain. The Craftsman door though looks beautiful is poor insulated which cheap weather strips, not a tight seal. Here's the bottom line, if you want save a few bucks I guess, and don't care about quality, just looks, then this place is for you and for house flippers who put the cheap stuff in their homes when they rent them or sell them. read more

In today's environment more unhappy customers tend to take the time to leave negative reviews then they do when happy. As for me, when dealing with the associates at Seconds & Surplus every interaction was professional and pleasant. My husband and I recently completed the build of our new home and purchased several items from Seconds & Surplus. We purchased two double iron doors, tile for our guest home, and the handles for both doors etc. After installation I had a few concerns and reached out, an associate answered the phone and said the manager was on break, but they would forward those concerns to him so that he could call me back. Honestly, I was going to hold my breath as it usually would take several days to get a call back when calling a business about a concern however when calling Seconds and Surplus the manager, Cordell called me within a few hours. He took the time to listen to my concerns and showed a genuine interest in what I had to say. He asked that he reach out later in the week as he needed to find out what he could do for me. He promptly reached out a few days later with a resolution to my issues. Shortly after speaking to him Mr. Williams, the Regional Vice President reached out via email. He was very professional and even took the time to send me some links on one of the rare concerns I had. I was very shocked and pleased that someone in his position took the time to not only apologize for those few minor concerns but take a moment out of his day to make sure they were all taken care of. I pickup a door here a few weeks back. It was a good price and a really good door. When I first got to the warehouse the employees treated me like they wanted me to go away, because loading a door in my Jeep was not easy. But Jose Sanchez came over, asked me if I needed help, helped me solve my issues, and worked with me to get it out the door. He also used his own personal tools to get the job done. Buyer Beware. We wanted an upgrade to our front door. We purchased a $1700 iron door, were given a $300 price reduction because we took the floor model that had nicks in the paint. Our salesman, Robert S, told us that he would include touch up paint to use on the defects. Paid $100 for install estimate; Seconds and Surplus contracts A+ door installer; who came out; less than five minutes of looking at the existing door and taking picture of the inside and outside of door. The estimate was over $400 of the $1000 which Robert S. guesstimated. It would appear this figure offset the so called reduction in price for taking the floor model with a subjective install estimate. I was contacted by the manager,Amy, after I called to find out when A+ doors was going to contact me since they had not contacted me in the time frame I was told. Amy "FYI-d" me on an additional charge for being in the extended service area. Today was the install. Showed up 11:50 am and just finished the install at 9:20pm. That is a 9.5 hour day!!! The front door was off for over 4.5 hours with a heat index advisory issued for the day. I texted Steve at A+ doors numerous times, voiced my concern about the time, the shoddy work that was being done and the amount of time the door had been "off." I also called Steve. No answer. The touch up paint that was sent to address the defects was dried up and could not be used. So, I have a door that needs touch up paint. The install was done by a guy who admitted was his second install job, I also have a hole in Sheetrock where it was cut too wide. read more

Ordered a full set of cabinets. They sat in storage untouched for over a month because of a construction set back. One was damaged and i contacted the business. I didn't receive a follow up email and i got busy with work and a bit of time went by before i could contact them again. I did speak to a rude person regarding this however when i talked to the correct person they are going to make it right. The rest of the cabinets were great for the price. Stay away. I read the reviews and what a scam. I paid $100.00 for a estimate for a front door replacement. The staff was nice when I went inside the store. I was told and signed a contract for a quote for installation. Ok? No. The store was supposed to contact me to arrange the contractor. That didn't happened. I was getting calls from people I didn't know. Then the contractor came out no mask during covid. Didn't bring his tape measure? He didn't write down any measurements. I asked for the quote? Due to there lack of customer service, they should have 0 stars. Review by Anonymous User I was told after purchasing a special order shower door that it would be a week, as it was coming from Garland (Dallas location) Its now been 36 days and no door and after multiple calls over the last 36 days, (10+) in which I was told they would look into it and get back to me, in which there were no call backs, there is no door and no response to my last inquiry. Why is tracking down a shower door such an issue? I can understand delays, but what I can't understand is why I can't get an answer, or at least a call back. I feel like I've been pushed aside, ignored and given the run around for no reason whatsoever. I've also written this same review multiple times here and its been removed.... shady af. We had to do a full house remodel and I got two bathroom vanities, a bathtub, bathroom faucets and a back door from Seconds & Surplus. I am satisfied with them but the only reason for the four star is when my contractor went to install the back door he realized the holes for the door knobs were not cut centered so now the locks are sticky. He noticed it after he had already took off the old door and was installing the new one so at that point I couldn't take it back so I'm stuck with it. No visitor can tell its off because he put some caulking in the hole where the sunlight was coming in from the door knobs but it should have been cut centered in the first place. We recently went through a full renovation of our 1st floor. We went to Seconds and Surplus to purchase our kitchen cabinets and granite counter tops. While we were signing contracts, they did state they could also do back splash installation, as well. We were very excited as we were about to go over budget with our main contractor, with the remainder of the 1st floor. Kitchen cabinets and granite were done in by the company's hired contractor. Overall, we were very satisfied with outcome. The back splash was a different story. The same contractor had another person install and the outcome was horrible. They did not use the correct required materials (which I paid for as part of the job). Upon discussion, my wife and I decided we should send pictures and complain. Sheila Ford with Seconds and Surplus, then came into our lives. Her take charge attitude and determination to do right by us, was beyond what I expected. She got new contractor, replaced all the marble back splash with BRAND NEW and I have to say it is a 100% improvement from the previous back splash. She ensured all the correct materials were used and she came out a few times, herself to inspect the work in progress. I gave 4 stars due to the 1st mess up - which I do not hold Sheila responsible, but feel more research and review of Second's hired contractors should be taken. I will gladly refer any friends and family to Seconds and Surplus for these types of jobs, they will ensure you are fully satisfied with the outcome! I was looking for granite countertops (I finally drank the Kool-aid) and was reffered there by a realtor. They had a good selection of basics, just like the other reviewer said, and the help was exceptional. I'll be doing fancy new (read: resellable) countertops next week! Bonus...they helped me find a qualified contractor who will pick up the granite from them so I don't have to do it. read more

Update: Michele's boss called me the day after this review. I guess she didn't tell him what was going on. He apologized profusely and sent a plumber out at his expense to fix my kitchen leaks and hook up the master bath plumbing. He is serious about good business but it doesn't fix my kitchen leaking and damaged wood from the leak and bath being tore up and unusable for 4 weeks. I am making a point to write the review for this company. I purchased granite, backsplash, grout for my kitchen, master and guest bathrooms approx. April 27, 2016. They were installing all of it on May 21, 2016 and her plumber coming out before and after to unhook and hook up my plumbing and the backsplash guy was coming out on May 22, 2016 to do it. I'm going to cut back on everything but the bare facts as this was such a crappy, sloppy, irresponsible and inconsiderate business service as you can get. They spent all day at the house cutting and installing the granite. They cut the hole too big in my master bath so the plumbing guy was here almost all day Sunday trying to make it work. It wouldn't. Come to find out her plumbing guy was also a friend and was unlicensed so that's why he was so slow and didn't get everything hooked up right. The backsplash guy forgot to show up Sunday. I throw a fit Monday, and they send the idiots back out that following Tuesday. They went and found a washer 2 times bigger and tell me that is what was supposed to be installed. Not! The backsplash guy finally gets here an hour late, he's on the phone almost the entire time. He has too much trouble getting the current backsplash off so he tears out all my sheetrock. My house is still in ruins, I haven't had a master bath for 4 days and my kitchen sink is leaking and this idiot is destroying my kitchen. I send all the idiots home, get another plumber who says the granite is not going to work, fixes the leak under the kitchen sink. I finish the sheetrock and install the backsplash myself. Over the next month Michele at Seconds & Surplus is out of the office that next week after telling me she will get back to me that Friday and doesn't. She then tells me they will come out and replace the bathroom granite which by the way they also messed up my bathroom wall, my wine cooler, didn't reconnect my dishwasher and they still don't want to do this. I'm not getting any resolution, my bathroom is still useless, the 300.00 faucets I'd bought are no longer working because of sediment getting in them from hooking them up and removing them so many times. I still have a water leak under the kitchen sink from the water filtration system that I'm going to have to get another plumber out for it. Unfortunately I paid her plumber with a check. I again sent her an email and she again has chosen to totally ignore me for over the last week but as of 6/13/2016 my bank decided that I'd had bad service and reversed the main charges to my credit card for the granite and backsplash. I understand most people like the deals at this place but the granite including labor at 42.99 it is not cheaper than everyone else. It is right up there with everyone else. BUT THEY HAVE THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF DEALING WITH. I WILL NEVER, EVER, EVER USE THIS CRAPPY COMPANY EVER AGAIN. How can you possibly stay in business with this kind of service. I had to go today and buy granite for my master bathroom. Because it is only 22 square feet it really limits me on who I can get now to do it. Companies don't want to come out unless it's worth it and 22 square feet is not. I did find a company to do it though but the kitchen and each bathroom now all have different granite in each room. Not my ideal scenario but I'll live with it as they are coming out Wednesday 6/15/2016 and I will finally be able to use my bathroom!!!! And then 3 months after this the under counter sink that they put in, they only put a brace under one side so I'm washing vegetables in the sink and it falls in. &@@&&&@&& I just keep praying for God to give me patience to deal with stupid, inconsiderate people. read more

Didn't buy anything that day but he still answered all my questions (even though I'm sure i was difficult) I repeated some questions just to make sure. All the while he reassured me when I was ready that I could come back and he would take care of me. Fast forward a month and I went back in and asked for him. The selection is always extensive and I have yet to experience them not having enough inventory of a particular item to fill an order, and the prices are extremely competitive! Most recently I worked with Jay Howard on tile, Jennifer Hamm on countertops, Sheila Ford coordinating install, Jonathan on actual delivery/ install, as well as Yerrick (sp?) on special order doors I needed. Buyer Beware!!! They make you initially sign a huge contract because they are not going to be accountable for getting your counters done or what the contractors they hire to do the job do. Everything seemed great at first. They sent a contractor (Hugo) to my house to measure. It seemed like he intended to do a good job. He did mention that even though seconds and surplus preferred to do the tear out the same day, he preferred to do it the day before. I called him early the day before to confirm what time he was coming and he immediately started making excuses as to why he wasn't coming. Including accusing me of not answering emails that he later said he had me confused with someone else, something about someone's cabinets not being in. He was basically trying to make excuses as he went along. He eventually said he would try to get his crew together. I waited until 3pm and called him back to confirm if he were coming or if he would do it all the next day as planned. He had measured earlier. At that time he said MSI had just delivered the slab that day. He should have had received 9 days prior. He said he thought he had it because it was on his manifest. I told him he should have verified if he had the slab and not depend on what was on a piece of paper. I managed to get him to agree to come do tear out the next day and try to do install as promised. He said worse case scenario it would be Wednesday and at that time he also agreed to do 6 inch backsplash behind sink and microwave using left over quartz to make up for confusion. They tore out the kitchen the next day. Made a mess of my walls and scratched my cooktop and left. The representative spoke to Hugo he apparently was interpreting for his brother that does not speak or understand english.. The representative from Seconds said Hugo's brother said he asked for a blanket and i said just put it in the garage. He never asked me for a blanket he asked me what I wanted him to do with it and it was not Hugo's brother it was the other english speaking person with him. They informed me that they would not install the apron sink that the contractor Hugo had agreed to install and Seconds and Surplus had been informed concerning and charged me for the install. I called seconds and surplus to see if I could get another contractor to do it and I was told no. We went back and forth and they offered to pay me a little over 300 out of 3900 for my trouble and eventually offered to give me a 199 credit towards a sink. If I had purchased a sink there that was comparable in value to mine it would have cost me $500. Their was an issue concerning the edge and I did not remember ordering a flat edge but either way I wanted to change it since they had not yet cut the slab. She said i just needed to sign a new contract with the different edge which i said was fine. Before I had a chance to sign it she said she needed to send a new contract probably because by that point they were going to push the day back to Friday and I was not a happy camper. They said that the Thursday had already been given to someone else. Their #1 objective is to make money and even though they want to blame MSI for not delivering the slab, I blame them and the contractor. I did not sign a contract with MSI. They should have confirmed the delivery was made on June 29th. Because I was not happy they added 5 more things to the contract . The final straw was one of the things I had to sign on the new contract was that I would not have any other grievances after the work was completed which was completely just WRONG. If they had been responsible or accountable When they realized the day before installation that they had just received the slab they should have found another contractor to do the job even if they did not make a profit on it and at the very least did it one day late. I found another company "Granite Artist"that I had visited once in the past that I liked. I signed a short one page contract and gave them half down. 5 days later they arrived on time, did an amazing job and charged me $600 less for the same material. Seconds and Surplus is not a great deal by any means. If something goes wrong chances are they are not going to be accountable. They have a 10 page contract that they make you sign so they don't have to. They did give me my money back which I guess they thought solved the problem. They still aren't worth a 1 in my book. They wasted a lot of my time and caused me a lot of stress and left a mess of my kitchen and stove. I went as far as speaking to one of the owners before asking for my money back and closing the book on this horrible experience. read more

I used this Company on my bath remodel and they are the greatest. Mike helped my daughter and I at the Lewisville location on 121. We have never gotten as good a service. We did most of our selecting in one day. I would definitely return there to that Company. I don't understand bad review in 2016. There is a man named Joe Scully at this location that has gotten me to write my first yelp review. He designed the layout of my family's cabinets to fit our needs and budget in every way he could. He gave us an itemized quote and went over how we'd be able to bring the cost down if we wanted to. He also gave a 3-D image perspective of our new kitchen in minutes... All of this was FREE of charge. He is one of the least pushy people I've ever met. We spent around 4 hrs discussing it over a 3-day span and I'm pretty sure I was one of his smallest clients ever. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Jesus has limited if any customer service skills. We were told by Jesus that ALL of the cabinets that we wanted to purchase were in stock so we rented a truck and came back the next day just to be told by Jesus that ALL cabinets WAS NOT in stock. We explained to him that we rented a truck to pick up our items. He basically had the body language and tone and attitude as if to say ITS YOUR PROBLEM DEAL WITH IT! We asked to speak with a manager(which we did not know Jesus was a manager...wow) so here comes another guy with just as less experience with customer service as Jesus. His name is Matt Murphy. Matt Murphy looks at Jesus first with a smirk...Jesus smirks as well and then Matt proceeds to come to us... the customer. We started to explain to him( l WAS RELUCTANT TO DO SO)our issue as the consumers! He was worse than Jesus...customer service was horrible and should not be tolerated. Issue not solved. We rented a Uhaul for nothing. Money down the drain. They should be trained on how to speak to people and how to better their customer service. Customer service goes a long way. Went to Seconds & Surplus this morning that is suppose to open at 8am. Those guys were at the gate, 7:59am... OPENING! Great way of not wasting time! My usual great sales person was not available, but Dario helped me out! I don't speak Spanish, nor do I speak "contractor" lingo. Sometimes my contractor and I have a bit of trouble communicating. My contractor sends me a text or tells me what he needs and I go to Seconds & Surplus for help. Dario not only waited patiently as I relayed to him what I needed but also got on the phone with my contractor and spoke to him in Spanish. Now that's customer service!
