Just the vibe I was looking for on a Friday morning! I ordered a lavender latte with oat milk and it was perfect. The service was quick, although it wasn't very busy at the counter. There were a lot of people already drinking their coffee and chatting. I purchased their whole bean coffee for $16, but have yet to try it. I'm excited though. When we visit Mt. I SO badly want to like this place, it's cute and super convenient for me. I had my family in town from the west coast and was telling them how close this place was to me and wanted to give them one last chance. We walk in and the boy working didn't even look up, I walked over and said excuse me after 5 minutes and he said hold on with such an attitude and we stood there for another 5 minutes. I get if he had other orders or was busy but no one was in the store. He always got our orders wrong so I asked for him to fix one of them and he said he couldn't... Besides this incident every time I go in the guys working are super unfriendly. I mean come on, this place has so much potential. If they would get better staff this place would be so much better. Not to say everyone there is unprofessional but the 5+ times I've gone have been very unpleasant. It was good but the food limitations make it hard for dietary restrictions. There were no sugar free options for syrups, which I was told that they were at least made in house. Great but those with sugar sensitivities still can't enjoy their drink without doctoring it or risking a reaction. Not all of us are keto but appreciate that keto is making life a bit better for diabetics and the like. There was no real explanation for what vegetables go in their skillet, and didn't quite figure it out with eating. I've tried to like this place because the location is convenient. I can grab a coffee here versus having to go downtown.... but both times my lattes have been so bitter. SS is my go to coffee shop. I work from home so any time I need to get out of my home office, I post up in here (a lot of people work from here so you won't feel like you're in the way or being pushed out if you're like me!) I usually go with the drop coffee, But their oat milk honey lattes with cinnamon are the real MVP. Food is also great, and most wonderful of all - the staff ! They create such a welcoming vibe that makes you feel like you're just hanging out at a friends house when you're there. Although several people were working on their laptops, I didn't find this place conducive to working. The cavernous ceiling amplifies conversations (my decibel-measure app read 85) and the music was also loud. There were gnats indoors, and the latte, though tasty, was lukewarm. There are two high end coffee spots in Mount Pleasant that are cool enough to warrant a visit, even if you only were planning on staying in Charleston. One is Vintage Coffee Cafe, which includes the bonus option of a wood fired pizza at sister shop, Coastal Crust. The other is here at the Collective, soon to become part of the Second State coffee team. They already source their beans from Second State (in downtown Charleston near the College), with several pourover choices daily and quick cups on drip. The espresso drinks are churned out on shiny La Marzocco Strada machine using single origin offerings. Food selections are limited but include a delicious ricotta toast with coffee blossom honey and tomato jam, in addition to seasonal pastries, breakfast sandwiches, heuvos rancheros, French toast, lox toast, avocado toast (with egg add on option), and the like. While I generally am not a big spiced latte drinker, the Fall 2018 "Broom Stick" latte won me over: freshly grated and ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove paired with smoked salt flakes and a hint of coffee blossom honey. For those who are looking for a quiet but lively place to get some work done or if you're just popping in to grab a quick pick-me-up, this place is perfect. Located right across from the super neat I'on neighborhood too. Cold brew was delicious and the breakfast burrito was good. Found Coffee Collective on a "nearby coffee" Yelp search. The photos looked enticing so we decided to stop in before heading to the airport. I was surprised to see so many people but from the looks of it a lot of people come here to work, study or have meetings. They have a huge breakfast menu and as enticing as the pimento cheese biscuit was I was pimento cheesed out after visiting Charleston so I decided on the breakfast sandwich with a caramel vanilla latte. My friend also got the ricotta cheese with honey which was delicious. Coffee and breakfast sandwich was amazing and the service was great a great as well. Only thing that I think they need is a dedicated water station and place to put your empty plates and cups. Didn't see anyone coming around to collect dishes during our visit either. I have been coming to Second State for years. I frequently get the same coffee order - a shakerato - and I ask for ice. The last four months, this is the only coffee drink I've actually been able to keep down being pregnant. It's a simple luxury of "normal" that I enjoy. Today I ordered a shakerato with ice and was initially asked if I wanted an iced latte instead...no thank you, this is what I typically order so I'm good. I get the drink and guess what...no ice. I ask the guy at the counter if I can have ice to which he says "it ruins the integrity of the drink and regardless of if I have gotten it before, they aren't doing it anymore." The drink is literally made by shaking espresso in a shaker with ice. Why not just pour it all in a cup as the customer ordered? I won't be going back to Second State. I am sure my visits won't determine their long term success but it's the principle of serving a paying customer, not being polite about it, and being dismissive of the fact that I know what I'm ordering. Honestly, me not breaking down crying in the middle of a coffee shop over a drink order (don't doubt the hormones) and only leaving this review, is a kindness they don't deserve. Collective Coffee is the cutest coffee shop. My friend and I wanted a quick delicious meal after our long weekend in Mount Pleasant and found this place. When we pulled up we were greeted by this adorable house.When we walked in we were warmly greeted by the great aroma and staff. They have a great selection of teas as well as different coffee choices. I got an iced tea that was delicious and my friend got an Americano. They have a wildly diverse menu. They have everything to an Açaí , pancake, to a regular lunch sandwich. I decided on the vegetable hash and was pleasantly surprised by the great flavors. The hash had broccoli, Cauliflower, and potatoes, topped with eggs and cheese. My friend got the açaí and loved it. The açaí was blended well and smooth and the granola on it was delicious as well. Why 5 stars? Because the Pimento Cheese Biscuit was one of the best things I've ever tasted. --- --- --- I know that this is a coffee shop. And if this coffee shop had feelings, it would probably prefer that coffee be the main thing that it is known for. And don't get me wrong, my cup-o-caffeine was just fine. But the pimento cheese biscuit - I want to leave my fiance and marry it. She wouldn't even be able to be mad about it. In my travels to the Carolinas, it seems that pimento cheese is required to be a part of certain percentage of every menu. Sometimes I've enjoyed my pimento-based items, and sometimes not so much. But this biscuit was so damn delicious that I'll be on the constant hunt for items that match its goodness, for the rest of my time on Earth. Woke up to high wind and the remains of a wicked rainy night. It just felt like I needed comfort food to go along with whatever coffee product this morning's time schedule would allow me. Just a bit ago, a chef friend told me she'd visited Collective and had this 'amazing biscuit.' Her account playing back in my head was really all I needed to roll over to the other side of my bed and grab my phone to view CC's menu. Almond Latte - not as hot as I like my A.M. beverages, but was big and almondy and hit the spot. Pimento Cheese Biscuit - with fried egg, cheddar, and bronzed brown sugar bacon - was certainly unlike anything I'd had before. Rich is the word that comes to mind. I was in the area with a craving for something breakfast related. It was after 9:30am, so I thought maybe this place would be quiet. No, it was not quiet. I guess that's a good indication that it's a popular location. I waited my turn in line and ordered an OJ and a breakfast sandwich. I could've ordered meat for an extra charge, or requested a cheddar n chive biscuit for another extra charge, but I just went with the traditional egg n cheese on an everything bagel. I was informed that the wait on food was about 15 minutes, so I went over to the well loved couch in the corner and read the news on my phone for a bit. My order was called out a little while later, and I was on my way. The sandwich was very good (not too runny on the eggs) and the bagel was fresh with a nice warm toast applied to it. Pros: - friendly staff and clean establishment Cons: - coffee is not good - food is not as described and also lacking. Coffee: I was with 3 friends. I ordered a mocha cappuccino. I asked everyone to try it before I commented and we all unanimously agreed it was the worst mocha coffee any of us have had. It tasted like burnt black coffee. The other 3 purchased lattes and said it tasted like basic black coffee. Food: Eggs were prepared well (very fluffy). Added avocado but it barely had any, for up charge of $2.50. Busy little coffee spot they have two locations one in Mount Pleasant near Ion and one over West Ashley. I have been to both many times and have always received consistent customer service and food. My favorite is the salmon toast or avocado toast. Pretty busy spot, lots of people drinking coffee and working on laptops and on their phone. Don't be fooled by the typical strip mall plaza, because inside you'll discover a gorgeous, yet minimalist coffee house that we all know and love. The place was packed on an early Sunday morning. A good mix of young and old. I already had my fair share of coffee prior, so I actually settled on a tea (I know, right...) which turned out to be very soothing for my headache. When thinking of a place to knock out some work, I usually go to Starbucks. Unfortunately, my seasonal favorites are no longer around so I hit up Collective Coffee last weekend and am glad I did. Honestly, the chai latte is what keeps me coming back! It's usually the only thing I order...but studying makes me hungry so I grabbed lunch too. The broccoli grilled cheese (with tomato) was just alright until I added the juicy pickle slices and asked for some spicy mustard. Then it was delicious! It was served with sesame bagel chips. Now that I think about it, the egg & cheese bagel sandwiches I've had before were also a little on the dry/boring side...either add more cheese or serve it with a condiment. While there was steady business when I first got to CC around 11:45, by 1 it was a full house! Definitely a popular spot for college chicks studying, teachers planning lessons, photo editing, and YouTube watching. My hubby and I loved it here! We love to visit coffee shops that serve breakfast. It is the best of both worlds for us! The atmosphere was very nice and friendly. I can't say enough good things about Collective. They probably make one of the best lattes in town. That's about all I drink when it comes to coffee but I am sure everything else is just as delicious. The staff seems to have very little turnover which def speaks to the experience of the baristas and the drinks they put out. They are consistent and always delicious. The kitchen is also a bit of a hidden gem. The various sandwiches I've had are extremely good but a latte and a sandwich with tip may set you back about $15. I often go here for breakfast and a latte or a latte and a book and really enjoy it, especially when you can sit outside on their little patio. This is the first coffee shop I've visited since moving to Charleston, and if all coffee shops are like this one, I'm going to love living here. A great place to go study or work on your laptop. I must warn you it's not a quiet place by any means. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It's very busy, but the staff is very efficient & the line moves quickly. I ordered the Matcha Latte- Hot. Smooth && delicious. I spent few hours working on my laptop on a communal table, music they blasted was of good taste, everyone who sat around me were very courteous && considerate. Came here this morning and it was so so nice! Awesome atmosphere.. just enough room to allow for quite a few customers to be doing work and then others just chatting with friends.. but still felt intimate! So the coffee.. so dang good! We had the Vanilla and Lavender Latte.. espresso shot and Hembala Pour Over.. everything was delicious and came out fairly quickly. We didn't get food but there were two girls next to us that got the avocado toast and breakfast burrito.. wow. It looked so yummy!
