Such a cute bookstore! Although there are so many amazing things to look at (a café with plenty of options, cute seating area, tree decor, bookish gifts, and of course the books themselves), what stood out to me most and would most likely stand out to all book lovers most was the gorgeous ladder connected to the bookcase, usable for all bookaholics. This store is so cute and relaxing to be in! There's a café/bar with a wide variety that isn't obnoxiously expensive and plenty of great books to choose from (and thankfully no Booktok section or ugly stickers covering gorgeous covers). There's a comfy seating area to read your book of choice and enjoy a delicious beverage. There's also plenty of unique and creative bookish gifts to get for your loved ones. Kind staff, clean place (including the bathrooms) and a great selection to choose from. 100% recommend! read more

I love it every time I go here!!! I've gone several times I've gone to get an afternoon pick me up of coffee and get some work done. They have inside and outside seating, which is nice for when it's a nice day! I've gone for one of their evening events of trivia and that was super fun!!! I've also gone just to hang with friends while we drink some coffee and yap and look at books. I love that they have a few different specials each month. Everyone that works there is so sweet! It's definitely one of my rotating places for coffee and a work day. read more

I love the aesthetic, its cozy, welcoming and easy to sit and read or chat in. I do wish they had food, even just pastries, but there is a place next door you can grab something. My issue is the staff. I have been a few times but I cant say they are particularly friendly. One lady was quite snappy last time at a customer who simply asked if they had food. She was quick to bark at her that theres food next door. It makes me reluctant to come back each time. But I do want to try it for wine after work. The Archive is Charleston's latest bookstore and I have to say... it's probably my favorite. The store has a dark academia vibe with is dark walls warm aesthetic. As soon as you enter you, to the right, you will find an assortment of tshirts/sweatshirts, bookmarks, stickers, candles, journals and more. At the back of the store is a coffee and wine bar (they make great drinks!) and in between all of this and the books is sparse seating. This store is small and it is popular! So keep that in mind as seating will be limited. Framing the seating by the window you'll find two hidden book cubbies that house "banned books". (This is one of my favorite things about the store. It's such a cool touch!) They keep all of the latest titles in stock as well as a few every day popular ones. With new releases you'll occasionally find signed copies (these tend to go quickly.) I recommend stopping by and grabbing a coffee and your next read! read more

I've been waiting for the Archive to open for months. The space is a little cramped-especially when it's busy and they have books stashed in every little nook and cranny. It felt a little crowded and overwhelming, I won't lie. I've heard it referenced as a "Dark Academia" bookstore, but it seemed more fantasy, YA, and romance based off the selection. I guess I expected more classics and literary fiction. The space is super cute. They have an awesome menu. And there's no doubt they will create a community of literary lovers in Mount Pleasant. read more

A little constructive criticism: The space is precious, love the book selection, love the concept, but the location sees a lot of turnover and I think they need to be thoughtful of their customers when pricing wine and coffee if they want them to come back. I went in with a friend and got a latte and a glass of wine and it was $30 with the tip (not including the $28 book!). Most of the books are hardcover so you'll be spending around $20+ if you get a book, and you should def get a book! But I think it's nice to give customers a break on coffee and wine (or at least have a few less expensive options- the least expensive white was $15 when I was there - for a California sauv B) if you want them coming, staying, reading and buying. read more
