Whenever I travel somewhere new, I try to stop at a new indie bookstore. My choices were a bit…read morelimited on this area, but I stumbled upon Buxton Books while we were shopping on King St. The outside of the building is just gorgeous, but I wasn't a fan of what it had to provide inside. The selection was a bit limited and I had a hard time finding the titles I was on the search for. The layout of the store was also a bit cramped which made it hard to navigate around other customers. Overall, a very cute photo opportunity but it might be hard to find what you're looking for.

Little did I know that Herberts is now in the back of the same building. This was the perfect setup! I started my machine, walked over for a coffee and a snack, went back to start the dryer, and then came back to peruse the merchandise. Everything from the coffee, to the staff, and selection of vintage were all top notch. I regret not picking up that South of the Border hat I saw, but I'll be back soon to do another deep dive.

Her first store under the same name was located in Summerville on Trolly Rd which she later sold. (That new owner has since moved the location and kept the same name though they are not affiliated.) Trade A Book is a used bookstore where readers are able to bring in their books in exchange for store credit. There is a limit of 25 books per person per day that can be brought in. (Please don't be one of those that tries to sneak more in.) You May find new books on the shelves when someone trades them in but TAB does not order stock of new releases. What books should you expect to find? A little bit of everything. - general fiction - fantasy / sci fi - Upper YA - Lower YA - Children's books (grade school as well as picture books for the little kiddos) - Historical fiction - Classics - Romance (historical, contemporary, fantasy) - Mystery/ thriller - Horror - Religious / Christian - non fiction (this space is very small and limited) - Westerns - Local authors - and much more!! At this time operating hours are Thurs-Fri 11-4P. It is best to call the store ahead of time to confirm they are open as Beverley runs the store by herself and can take leave while she assists with family care. Beverly is one of the nicest store owners and is super knowledgeable about the books on her shelves. Readers are always welcome to request temporary holds if something comes in. Bacon was thick and smoky, the roll had just the right "squish" and "chewiness" of a good hard roll, and it wasn't greasy or sloppy at all, which is exactly why I picked it. The Mediterranean salad was not quite what I expected, I thought it would involve black olives and feta cheese, but it had neither, and I appreciated that it was different and not too oily. The food prices feel a touch high but if you look at the quality of the food, and their use of premium ingredients, it is reasonable for what you get. Staff was friendly and good came out fast. There is a long table for bigger groups and small tables for up to four to sit. There's no traditional menu, instead, he takes the time to learn what you like and crafts drinks based on your taste. I've never experienced anything like that before. The level of knowledge and creativity behind the bar was incredible. Every drink he made was stunning and tasted even better than it looked. I was honestly so impressed that I couldn't even remember all the ingredients he mentioned because I was too busy being amazed at how good everything was. It was one of those moments where you realize there are real levels to this craft. I walked in thinking I knew a thing or two about mixing drinks at home, and left with a whole new respect for the art of it. They fry it a little which explains the saltiness. I expected the charcuterie board type. That said, I remember having an absolute blast. The bartenders were super friendly, welcoming, and stayed on top of everything even though the place was busy. I just ordered vodka sodas, so I can't really comment on the cocktail menu, but my drinks were exactly what I expected every time. I didn't try any of the food, so I can't speak to that, but if you know me, you know I'm a sucker for a good photo booth. They had one, and I definitely used it more than once. It was such a fun addition to an already great night. Between the friendly staff, fun atmosphere, and the photo booth, this ended up being one of my favorite bars I visited in Charleston. I'd absolutely go back the next time I'm in town.
