Tin Roof is a dive bar with cheap drinks, interesting décor, and lots of locals. It reminds me of the bars I visited in college, and even the drink prices are a throwback to the mid-2000s. I've been here for a comedy show and to enjoy drinks at the bar, and they also host drag shows and live music. Facebook is probably the best way to find out what's happening, as the bar draws a millennial crowd. The live shows typically have a cover, but it's still a cheap night out. For drinks, you can choose from beers on tap, frozen slushies, or most any liquor you can think of. You won't find a cocktail menu or anything fancy, but the drinks are plentiful, cold, and strong. If you're looking for a cool dive bar with super good food, don't be fooled by it being a dive bar. The atmosphere is super chill and they have a dog area with hammocks out back. I finally made it to Tin Roof for some weekend revelry. A friend of mine had a DJ friend of his that was playing there later that evening. Little did I know, a couple other bands were opening up for him and so we were able to catch three acts for five bucks! Each performance alone warranted a five dollar cover for their energy alone. They almost knocked the roof off the place... which probably isn't that tough since its tin right? The bar was divey, the drinks were cheap, the bartenders were cool folks, and everybody in the place seemed to be having a good time. Maybe it was just all the cheap drinks but I know I had a blast. I like how the stage is set back from the main room and that there's an outside area if you need to escape the chaos for a minute. Good times! read more

This is surely becoming my favorite bar and hang out spot. I've come here twice. Once a few days before Christmas so it was pretty dead but the drinks were solid and music was good. Second time during a goth/new wave event called Oblivion. Nostalgia for me all over as a die hard goth who misses the "scene" and clubs of yesteryear, this was so much fun. The crowd was small but very inviting and the music was just perfect. I was too shy to dance but swayed in my chair as the margaritas kept coming. Several occasions have come and gone since I moved to Charleston where I have wanted to visit the Tin Roof but missed out for whatever reason. I finally went a few nights ago to see Burnt Books and Whores perform. Every thing online said that music started at 8 p.m. It started at 10 p.m. That was a little annoying seeing as I drove over a half hour to get there. I decided to partake in a beverage to make the wait a little more tolerable. I was happy to see they had Holy City Brewing on tap. Not just the Pluff Mudd Porter like most local places, but also the Collision Stout. It was $6! A little pricy. I guess if you aren't a PBR swilling hipster you're S.O.L. on beer prices. The place is definitely a dive. It has a nice intimate feel which makes it fun when the music starts. At least I thought so. The crowd there at the time was some of the most unmoved people I have ever witnessed at a music show. The crowd definitely had a pretentious air to it(and a cloud of B.O. I left with in my clothes). I'm a huge music fan, and these little negatives didn't really ruin the place for me. I would never go there just for the bar, but I will definitely return when more good music rolls through. This is my favorite dive bar, yet my love is bittersweet. The place itself is super relaxed, cool and the bar staff is awesome. I would go every day to have a drink. I would get all of my friends to meet me for drinks. I would stay from 4pm to 10pm. I would go every day. Here's the bitter part.... First, I'd have to join AA. And biggest part? I'm not paying $5 full a draft beer! There are too many places with too many happy hours and too many beer specials. The owners should be ashamed. IT"S A DIVE BAR! The women's bathroom has beads separating it from the rest of the place for goodness sake!. Have $2 beer specials (like everyone else in Charleston does) and have better prices regularly. Johnny needs to go. It's clear based on all the other reviews about the rude as fuck male bartender and here is another one. Please fire this person. Every time I've come to tin roof and he has been on bar he has been a complete ass for no reason. I've been in fandb for 8+ years and I would never treat my customers the way he has treated not just me but seems to be everyone around as well. This time I was there as a performer and he was there and he tried to tell us we had to start OUR show at 9... we posted about the show and said first performance was 930... so we were still waiting for guest to arrive when he told our sound guy that we HAD to go on now... wtf then he referred to our show as hip-hop night and refused to give anyone a free pbr it wasn't hip not night it was a planned show with five performers. People had special guests but those people didn't need to get a free drink and only one person had a free drink when this bartender decided to refuse anyone else. They also did not put up our show on the outside banner. Which when I was outside a pedestrian drove by and stop and asked if there was a show there tonight and said why isn't it on the sign and I said I don't know. Instead the sign read cold beers and ice cream sandwiches, as a performer that has been here before it's pretty disrespectful to not put the names of the acts up on the board. This was not hip-hop night it was a planned show with five key performers! This man ruined the night for us and unfortunately we had to go with little to no audience. And just like we planned people started showing up right after we finished the first set...around 9:30- 9:45 he is also just very bitter and cold to everyone and I feel like he does not need to be a bartender anymore he needs to hang up his hat if he cannot be kind to the people that are there to enjoy themselves and have a good time. This is a quintessential dive bar. Cheap drinks, no pretenses and some weird clientele. Came here on a Wednesday evening with my friend for some cheap drinks. We thought it was Bingo night but it turned out to be live music, so we paid an $8 cover. Some REALLY great talent played that evening! I can see this being a fun place when more crowded. The way the set up is there are 5ish areas of the bar in and outside to give you a small yet large feel. They host great shows at a low cost kinda like the drinks. It's a total dive with an intense and delicious menu of hot dogs, a wide variety of live music, posters clinging for life on the ceiling, a pool table, outdoor area, and a laid back crowd (I guess that might depend on the night/music, though). The drinks are neither expensive or cheap, and there are times where I'm not totally feeling the music (more often than not, I really enjoy it though). Having spent my formative years frequenting the divey bars of Greenwich Village in New York City, I felt amazingly at home here, even though it has A more eclectic feel to it. If I'm ever going to describe a place is intimate, this is it... We saw a magician (surprisingly enough) and he was pretty good. There is maybe room for 30 people in the entire venue. The bartenders were really good, and knew their job. The food was good too! She had a schnitzel! (which I never would have expected on the menu in a place like this) & I had a couple of really good hot dogs. (That's saying a lot because I love hot dogs.) Neither of us had anything alcohol to drink, but I heard some people complaining about the drink prices. I guess being from the New York area I'm used to higher prices...they didn't look bad to me. I like the Tin Roof a lot, but the crowd is a bit too weird for me some nights. We went there for a band, White Boy Crazy (they rock, by the way) and I dunno... forgive me for not finding the crowd of men, approx. age 30, dressed in skinny jeans and pouring PBR all over their faces attractive- but it's just not my thing this week. Maybe next we'll try again? Anywho, it reminds me of Austin in there and I just happen to love Austin dearly. The vibe and the people are generally really cool - and the crowd does vary from the few times I've been. As it does at any bar that has random bands. Fun times, cheap drinks, tasty eclectic bar food, and the staff is very knowledgeable and super friendly. There are shows a lot here ranging in genre from punk rock and metal to folky type music. Tuesday is trivia night which is free to play and you can win bar prizes. It's a smaller venue and what some might consider a dive bar, but to me it feels like a really friendly and cozy place tucked in central West Ashley. Also, the pinball machines rock and you can always find something written on the bathroom wall that makes you laugh. Tin Roof is also a frequent stop for area food trucks.
