High Point Woods Apartments - Nice view from my second story bedroom window!

Since I've only lived here for about a week, I'll keep this review short and update it later…read more So far, High Point Woods has been great. The office staff are polite and take interest in their tenets beyond what I would expect of a property manager. One of the staff even helped me take my suitcases across the street since I don't have a car. I put in a few minor maintenance requests when I first moved in on things like the sink stopper not working and the faucet leaking. These things got fixed beyond my satisfaction (got a brand new kitchen sink fixture!) and in a timely manner (about 4 business days). The apartment itself has been great so far. Very quiet, clean, and well maintained. No bugs or major issues thus far. My view from my bedroom window isn't too shabby either. Epic employees may possibly get a discount, so be sure to mention it to the person showing you the apartment.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AS A TENANT. I was a good tenant for 4…read moreyears. In the last week of renting, they wanted to rip up half the carpet, which would have taken 3 days. I said that wouldn't work, as we were moving out. The whole situation escalated and I was served an eviction notice for 12 hours before my lease was up. I informed Missy, the landlord, that it was within my legal rights to decline the renovation, and that the eviction notice needed to be 5 weekdays in advance, not including the day it was served (meaning, the eviction notice wasn't valid). I also posted a complaint with the dept of consumer affairs, which seems to have done the trick. Moral of the story: if you rent here, make sure you read up on the eviction process so you don't get fooled.

The sunflower bloom is definitely worth the trip and parking lot traffic and walk up the hill- it's simply amazing. Over 500,000 sunflowers will bloom in a one week period! There's a bit of an uphill climb to get from the parking areas to the sunflowers and the farmland, so expect that. This is a free event, so feel free to donate to the conservancy, cheapskates! There's as much or as little walking here as you want. Get a few pics of the sunflowers and go home, or walk around the whole sun field, walk past the oak savannah and prairie, or walk around the whole farm (which is quite a hike)! Bring water, bring a blanket, bring a picnic!

There are a couple of parking areas for your convenience and plenty of volunteers around to guide you into your spot an along the route next to the field. There are also shadier areas with some lovely views and wildflower growth bordering the sunflowers. Photos are encouraged, though do be sure not to touch the flowers. We went on what was likely one of the busiest days of the Conservancy's year, so I'm looking forward to returning when there aren't hundreds of other people clamoring for their own shot of the golden beauties.

The pizza is also consistently excellent. It's hot and fresh, with great toppings, and the portions are fair. If you are looking for a quick, casual, DELICIOUS, wood fired pizza this is your place!

Food: A nice selection of pizza, split between ones with and without tomato sauce. I got the Lombarda which has Gorgonzola Cream, Pears and Apricot Glaze and Arugula. My wife got a cheese, sausage, mushroom and onion (CSMO). Both of them came out, pipe hot, with nice crisp crust. Nice presentation for both pizzas. They were both good, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the Lombarda. If it had Apricot Glaze, it wasn't very noticable, and maybe was the reason that it needed a bit of salt to enhance the toppings. The CSMO was very flavorful, and clearly the better of the two. Service: Super friendly and helpful service, both when ordering and when the food was delivered. The cashier was patient and happy to give us advice on what their favorites were. Atmosphere: It's a small place. Some interesting vintage large photo print on the walls. You order at the counter, then take a seat at one of the tables along the left side of the restaurant. It looked like there were as many people picking up to-go orders, as there were dining in.
