I normally am not a huge fan of people who review an establishment that have never been. However, in this case I feel it is necessary. I have noticed a few yelp complaints about customer service and I would have to fully agree. I received a free nights stay at this hotel and called to book a room for my birthday (which I even mentioned in a joke to the person I was working with). I informed them I was using a certificate for a free stay and was informed that there weren't any rooms to accommodate me. I accepted this as I was calling just a week before my trip. However, on the day I arrived in Seattle I though I would see if anything had become available. Much to my surprise there were plenty of rooms available, but was informed by front desk staff and manager that they don't allow gift certificate redemption when the hotel is at a certain capacity (they were at 81%) and so despite a room being available if I wanted to purchase it I could not have one with the certificate (note - nowhere does the certificate stipulate its unusable past certain capacities).
The front desk did patch me through to someone higher up who was in charge of hotel operations, however no-one was able to return my call until a few days past my trip. The gentleman who I talked to (I believe it was hotel director) apologized profusely and informed me that they should have never denied me a room and should have been far more accommodating, especially after I mentioned that he would be furious if he came into my business and I denied him the use of a gift certificate on the basis that business was too good for me to be bothered with honoring gift certificates. He instructed me to book the room with him in the future, rather then the person who issued the certificate or the front desk. This contact is the only reason I'm giving the hotel more then one star at the moment. While not one to expect nor demand anything from a business (I work retail, I know how it is) I was mildly surprised that despite being lied to initially about room availability, then being denied my ability to redeem a valid gift certificate, I was not offered anything further out of courtesy. An extra night would have had me singing their praises, but free valet, free meal, or free room upgrade, would have still helped ease the burn of my weekend costing me about 180 dollars more then expected. Still, seeing as I'm using a gift certificate and not the person who actually is paying I can't really complain about anything not being offered up.
I do still plan to stay here in the future since I still have a free nights stay available to me. However, its tough to make it up for just one night and hard to justify spending money on a second night with a hotel that treated me so poorly in the past. I will say that I ended up booking a room at silver cloud through price line at about a 100 dollars less then a room here would have cost me. Silver cloud upgraded my room for my birthday at absolutely no charge to me. So I strongly recommend anyone in the area look at them as well. I will update this review once I have stayed at the hotel and give a real, I have stayed there, review. One that combines my experience with customer service now, on my stay, and where I can discuss what I think of the room and rest of hotel. read more
