I have thrown two 300-400-person fundraising events at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront, and they have both gone splendidly. My experiences working with the staff of the hotel have always been top notch, and I appreciate their knowledge and willingness to accommodate my every whim.
The lobby is really beautiful- a great glass sculpture in the middle of a round lounge with a beautiful chandelier. There is a bar at the end of the lobby, and a "library" with a fireplace next to an entrance to The Fish Club. Walking in, the space makes you feel good. The ballroom is located in the basement of the hotel, and to get to it, you have to go down a staircase that resembles something from the Titanic.
The ballroom capacity is about 400-450, but our last event only had 300 and with little to no effort, the tables were arranged in such a way that the space felt full and comfortable.
Prior to our event, we scheduled a tasting, and we got to pick out the table setting arrangements before trying items from the menu. We requested a chicken, fish, and vegetarian option (that needed to be vegan and NOT pasta). We tried two different salads, and two chicken, two salmon, and two vegan dishes, and three different desserts. The chef, banquet manager, and event manager were all on hand to answer all of our questions about the ingredients used and the preparation. They went above and beyond to be accommodating of our menu, and were able to offer us the chicken and salmon dishes for the same price (Often the fish option runs a few dollars more than the chicken options).
Leading up to the event, the event manager checked in with me regularly about planning the event. She showed genuine concern when I told her that we were expecting a smaller number of guests, (thanks to the economy for deciding to tank a week before our event) and was quick to offer suggestions on how we could modify our program and dinner service.
The Marriott was able to accommodate our simultaneous VIP reception in the library, general reception in the ballroom lobby, our registration, and dinner all in one night. The tech/AV guys were a dream to work with, and our manager took the liberty to arrange lighting on the stage that was beautiful.
Night of, I was always able to find a Marriott rep who was working on our event to help me with all kinds of little details. They were on hand to help me troubleshoot our auction, finagle the timing of our program, and to offer moral support when our auctioneer said ALL the wrong things.
I would highly recommended the Seattle Marriott Waterfront to event planners who are looking to hold annual fundraising events or wedding receptions. They really take care to ensure that logistically, your event is a success. I deduct only one star because I was recently told that Marriott employees aren't permitted to unionize, which is part of the reason they are super easy to work with. read more
