I booked a tasting a couple of weeks in advance, but they do accept walk ins as well. The tasting was very relaxed, and you are able to go at your own pace. Binta was awesome, very welcoming and fun to chat with. The shop was so cute and cozy. They sell so many different things other than caviar as well. My favorites were Italian Osetra and Baerii. I could also eat the Ikura all day. I did not purchase anything this time around but I will definitely be back, since everything was so fresh. Excellent customer service! My husband ordered caviar and foie gras for NYE and had it shipped to Alaska. Unfortunately, UPS did not deliver it and allowed it to sit in their warehouse for over a week due to "weather" - however, we were receiving USPS mail daily. UPS messed this up big time resulting in us not receiving our product and Seattle Caviar Company refunded us 100%. They were incredibly responsive, professional, and courteous; even though it cost them. We will definitely be purchasing from them in the future- and using a different shipping company. read more

Well, it's not going to get too much fancier than this, as boutique specialty shops go. It's not going to get much friendlier or better-run, either. They're on the ground floor of a mixed-use condo building on a stretch of Eastlake that's not too painfully busy, at least outside of rush hour. I've gotten super lucky with parking the couple of times I've been here, but in this neighborhood that's really not a given. Worth it, though. You can go a couple ways here. You can get flights of caviar and other things to munch on while you're there, and you can do a bit of shopping for things to take home with you. To be honest, this goes beyond what I usually consider the most luxurious treats, and really blasts off into serious ultra-premium goods. One of my best buddies lost a dear friend this year, a guy in San Diego who had a natural knack for bringing together food and beverage people for all kinds of special events that often went spiraling off in fun, adventurous, and unexpected directions. That dude evidently loved him some foie, and got my buddy hooked on it. As a sort of impromptu memoriam this summer, we sampled a couple kinds of foie from SCC, and now we're back at it. I picked up 3 kinds yesterday. It's too rich for some in our group, and a couple people have a psychological block about eating it (understandably enough). You could say I'm getting a bit hooked myself. Yesterday I checked out the interior of the place after ordering online. It's really nice inside, clean and brightly lit, with marble counters, several coolers, and tables with stools over by the windows. The folks behind the counter are friendly and easy to talk to, and I'd be happy asking them a million rookie questions about caviar and all this other fancy stuff. And I'd have to ask rookie questions. 'Cause I'm still a complete rookie. We've talked a few times about Ubering around on a pub crawl, and making this place a fun stop for crazy-indulgent snacks at some point on the itinerary. I'm really, really hoping we do that. I'm loving bringing home foie, wrapped up in gift bags with ice packs inside as they do it--smart AND stylish. But I wanna try a bunch more stuff in a social setting. We needed to get some quality omiyage for my parents before we returned home for all they've done for us. Saw this place on Yelp and the wife wanted to do a long stroll through Eastlake so it worked out perfectly. This was just a super cool experience all around. We got here 20 minutes before closing and I really wanted to do the tasting. The female employee could have easily shooed us away since some effort goes in to preparing a tasting but she just smiled and said she should be able to get everything ready in time. The tasting was so fun just to be able to sample 7 different types of caviar (since I obviously couldn't afford to buy 7 different tins) while also enjoying a mini glass of champagne. The employee was a great host, very knowledgeable, and just an all around pleasure. We ended up buying 1 oz of the Baerii and 1 oz of the California white sturgeon. The wife and I were in need of a good "date day" so we went out to Seattle for some good food. I originally found this place while looking for a local Foie Gras supplier. There she was Foie Gras, Truffles, & Caviar! Amuse-bouche. We decided to go for the tasting which was $10 per person and additional $10 if you want the champagne. We have had very little educational experience with caviar, we just knew whatever kind we had last time we LOVED. So we were also in search of that wonderful caviar that we had. The tasting consisted of at least 6 different caviars, starting from least to greatest. I did not care for the first few; they were very basic but did not have stand alone qualities. The lower levels were also not Sturgeon, so technically...not caviar (at least not in "real" culinary standards) Once we got into the Sturgeon I was greatly satisfied. As we went up the scale in quality and price the flavors became more and more magnificent. Than there it was, the moment where the hairs on my neck stood up and my taste buds were excited, that was the taste, the taste I was in search of. One minor detail, it was Osetra.... Meaning for a little 8oz container you are going to pay $1000.00. I didn't care, I bought 24 ounces, I just sold the owners my car....Yeah right, the lady did give me another nice sized sample though!! There is some method to the pricing madness. It takes that specific Sturgeon around 20 years to produce its first "caviar" not to mention all the work it takes to get the caviar. We ended up buying a different type of Sturgeon which was still very good but no hair standing. My only wish is that they would have served the caviar on a blini with some creme fraiche. I know they serve it alone to get the whole experience, just would have been nice to have it served like that as well. They did not charge us for the tasting since we purchased some caviar which was really nice. Trust me, not too long ago I would have ever touched caviar, but you must try it, also understand that not all caviars are the same, some are bad many are great, just depends on what you like. I would have never came here had I not been served some amazing caviar at a party, I am so thankful I had! I cannot wait to be back. Please do some Foie Gras and Truffle tastings! read more

We'd been planning this tasting for 3 months, having just moved away from WA for the other coast, we wanted something super opulent to look forward to on our visit back. $25 for caviar tasting (includes champagne!) and we got a wonderful crash course in the differences in caviar tastes and origin (6 types of caviar!) What a wonderful experience and the staff was not only helpful but accommodating for our friends that were running late. There are 3 seats at the bar, a low table with 2 chairs and standing room for 4 at the counter. The shop and staff have great personality and help make this unique experience something to remember. If there is a heaven, I'm pretty sure this is mine. We did the Thursday tasting and I was pretty hesitant given the price tag but thought 'well, who cares, worst case is I'm out $30.' Thankfully I was wrong. I'm sure they're taking a loss on this tasting cause you get an amazing amount of caviar and bubbles for $30, which is what you'd probably pay for the bubbles alone. I tried a Nebbiolo sparkling, which I can't say I've had before. It was very tasty. They also top you off when you're done. I didn't expect that but of course appreciated it. Brittany was there but another woman (who may or may not be her sister) actually walked us through the tasting. The storefront is small but inviting and you certainly feel as though it's a spot you can hang out. They also have restrooms so while it's not a restaurant/bar, I could see myself buying things there and just hanging out if I lived in Seattle. A friend of mine from Seattle said it was a bit of a trek from Capital Hill, where we were staying, and said it might not be worth it. He was wrong. I would venture out quite a bit for this and whoever lives in Seattle and hasn't been here, go now. Physically stop reading this review and get in your car. You're welcome. They not only serve you scrumptious eats and drinks but they really are there to educate. They will tell you not only where the eggs are from and how they are farmed but explain the tasting nuances as well. However, don't ask them their favorite; rightfully so they believe that 'to each their own.' If I wasn't going through customs (and if I had a job), I would have bought a ton of this and I actually will purchase from them in the future for sure. I have bought through Petrossian before and enjoyed it but having been in their physical storefront makes me want to bring my business here. I mean, they own caviar.com. Doesn't that tell you how long they have been in this business and know what they're doing? The day we were there they had one extra Osetra (oh, darn) that wasn't on the tasting note page. I really enjoyed all 9 that I had (including some roe, although the 'difference' (or lack thereof) between roe and caviar was explained to me during this experience. By the way, whatever Baerii is, yes x 2. They also had amazing Osetra, although there was not one of the nine that I did not enjoy. Yes, you do need an ounce of $185 Osetra caviar. Stepping into this little luxury shop was like stepping into my fantasy world. All my favorites in one tidy package: you got your caviar, your foie gras (both slab and tureen), and your champagne okay, make that MY champagne. I do hate to share. The pretty girl behind the counter was more than delighted to serve my nine-year- old all the caviar, I mean the good stuff, too, that she could eat (which was surprisingly a lot!). Once you make your selections, you get your delightful delicacies all packaged up in Caviar Co. branded cooler bags with Caviar Co. branded ice packs. Perfect for toting a PBJ while simultaneously letting the riff raff know that sometimes you dine on something nicer... I should dock them a star for the obnoxious parking situation. How could we possibly turn down $10 / person caviar tasting?! The Seattle Caviar Company offers a fantastic variety of caviar, including classic sturgeon caviar and similar-to-beluga osetra caviars. We each did the tasting and added the flutes of champagne (technically ours was a cremant - delicious!). Brittany was our caviar guide and started us with the whitefish, similar in texture as but milder in flavor than tobiko (cod roe). Then came two types of ikura - salmon (familiar since I love sushi) and trout, which was surprisingly more buttery than the salmon ikura. Before moving on to the sturgeons, we tried the paddlefish, which had smaller pearls and thus less "pop". Now for the sturgeons - this is where it started getting extra special. The Siberian had a noticeably different flavor than the more mild, simpler caviars we just sampled. The Idaho was buttery. The California was saltier than the Idaho with a nutty flavor. The Amur was definitely more complex, with an unusually fruity and nutty flavor to it. The Osetra from Germany was my favorite of them all. It was complex, with a great texture and the perfect balance of buttery and briny. The most expensive by ounce was the Osetra from Israel. This is considered to be the next best thing to the now-banned beluga caviar. It was a great experience and I'd love to do it again! I highly recommend adding caviar tasting at the Seattle Caviar Company to your visit to Seattle. If you're locals, it's very easy to find just off Eastlake. Lucky for me, they ship their caviar, foie gras, and truffle products in dry ice. :) And you know they've been around for a long time because they have the BEST domain name - c'mon, www.caviar.com?! YUM! We came here totally on a spontaneous whim It's right next door to Ravish - popped on in and ended up doing a caviar tasting with a side of bubbly. Tastings are $10/person and an additional $10 for the champagne. The tasting consisted of a variety of caviar (about 6-7). The portion sizes were delicious healthy spoonfuls to taste. I enjoyed all of the varieties we tasted - and the tasting fee is waived if you buy some (which we did). The lady that provided the experience to us was very friendly and professional. We walked out of the tasting with our little container of delicious caviar - they packed it up in a small black to-go tote with ice packaging and everything. So cute. A friend and I checked out Seattle Caviar for the first time this morning and we had such a lovely time! We took advantage of the $10 tasting plus $10 flutes of wonderful French Champagne. Our hostess was a delight--knowledgeable, attentive and the perfect person to educate us (as caviar newbies) in an enthusiastic, unpretentious way. We learned a ton, notably the fact that caviar (like wine) is very much a matter of personal taste...the varieties were so different from each other. I would highly encourage anyone skeptical of eating fish eggs to give Seattle Caviar's tasting a shot as for us it really cleared up misconceptions about the delicacy. My $10 tasting fee was waived as I ended up buying a 2 oz. jar of Ikura salmon caviar ($10). My purchase was packed in an adorable custom Seattle Caviar mini-cooler with ice and and ice pack! Normally my paycheck, or lack thereof, would not sustain visits of any sort of regularity to a place like this, but in light of the fact that it was for an anniversary celebration I decided to hit it off. And it was good. Good as hell, as a matter of fact. Me being the caviar novice, I was expecting a completely snooty over-the-top vibe, but got none of it here. I definitely did my research before coming in, but the lady was so helpful and nice she made the experience well worth the bank I dropped. She even had pre-prepared recipe lists and such. So caviar is hella expensive (obviously), but I think it's worth the price. I got a little taste of the Iranian Beluga (or whatever the real deal holyfield stuff is), and it's pretty out of this world. It tasted like fruits in the finish. Who would've thought fish eggs would taste like fruit? I didn't buy it though, I stuck with the paddlefish (significantly cheaper, but definitely good.) I also had the blessing of checking out (ie smelling) the black truffles, which were the first of the season straight from I-tal-y. I couldn't get my nose out of the bag. Like some drug. Maybe if I only eat ramen and don't drink and don't eat out I can afford this place again sometime soon. read more

I came here because a sophisticated 11-yr old kid was visiting from out of town during his spring break. He was on a caviar kick and here was this great place we could walk to to taste different varieties of caviar. We were greeted by the sweet, friendly woman behind the bar. She asked if we (I) wanted to add bubbly to my tasting. I declined. The kid did too. We tasted 6 different kinds of caviar. I forget what the price range was but we ended up getting the next to highest in price: 2 oz for $85, I think. I let the kid choose. (He later said the priciest one was his fave but didn't think I should spend that much money.) We added blinis and also bought a jar of truffle honey. Since we made a purchase, the tasting charge ($10 pp?) was removed. I love that it was packed in the cute little cooler bag with dry ice for us to take on our walk home. We ended up making a stop at delicious Serafina for a bite to eat for about an hour or so. When we got home, we were able to enjoy the still very cold caviar and blinis. It was such a delightful experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. 4 stars because of the high prices, but I guess that's par for the caviar course! read more

Go here for a splurge into pure elegance. This is a nice place with nice people. It is expensive, of course, but they sell caviar, which is expensive. I used a gift certificate for a 4 oz. tin of paddlefish caviar, so the damage was lessened. I also made blini from scratch (Martha's recipe is the easiest) and crême fraîche (so easy to make) to go with the fishberry jam. With a sprinkle of chive and a glass of bubbly, it made our New Year's Eve an elegant affair. I'm saving up money now to go back with my little black bag, so I can get more caviar. read more

I used to frequent this place fairly regularly to get caviar for personal consumption at home. However, I had not been here in a few years and decided to bring my boyfriend for their Valentine's Day tasting. The caviar here is always extremely high quality, and they do offer a wide variety of caviar at all price points. What I really want to compliment though, is the staff. Not only are they extremely knowledgeable and very helpful, but they actually remembered me after not having been in the shop for about three years. As it was my boyfriends first time trying caviar he was a bit hesitant and they answered any questions he had in a very detailed manner, and they were very friendly as well. We both thoroughly enjoyed our Valentine's Day tasting and we did end up purchasing some items to take home.
