While visit Pike Place, I had Lands of Origin on my list to go to this time. We were immediately greeted by staff and knew what we wanted to order right away. We ordered a few of the beef patties (we didn't take pictures because we ate them before we realized we didn't get a picture!), the Pattie's were perfectly seasoned, fresh and full of flavor. I heard of this place and I was pretty excited to try it. The people are pretty nice, they saw me coming up and immediately asked if I wanted to hear their products. It's a stand so there's no seating but these are pretty easy to eat while walking. It's can be a little hard to notice as it blend in pretty well. I tried Egg tart 5/5 -- crispy, filled with creamy egg tarts Moroccan lamb bun 5/5--- love the crispy texture and soft interior. The Jamaican beef patty from Land of Origin was SO incredibly delicious that I came back two days later just to buy more and ended up bringing several back with me to my home state! The filling was so flavorful, juicy, and moist, with the perfect blend of warm, savory spices. The crust was everything I want in a Jamaican beef patty - crispy and flaky on the outside while holding that delicious, perfectly seasoned filling inside. Every bite was packed with flavor. Maybe I came on an off day, but was disappointed with the pastéis de nata I got after seeing so many glowing reviews. Lands of Origin is a little more tucked away than a lot of the Pike Place stalls and is easy to miss if you're not looking closely. Since it's just a stall, there's no seating and you take your orders to-go. Perhaps I came too late in the day; it was around 3PM when I swung by the stall for a snack. The pastry dough was a little under-baked for my taste, and there was definitely not enough egg custard in the tart I tried -- not to mention the custard was totally caved in. We saw the pastéis de nata and decided to get some to try. Little did we know, the shop is opened by Chef Meeraf Mamo, known for its diverse, African-inspired pastries. That pastéis de nata is an award-winning pastry. It was creamy inside and the crust outside gave more texture. It had a little hint of lemon/lime zest taste in there. Such a nice surprise for me. The best Pasteis de Nata in Seattle by far! If you're in Pike Place, this is a must stop. The tart is perfectly crispy, flaky, and has a hint of orange which adds such a nice brightness. Due to construction, Lands of Origin was temporarily posted up next to Mee Sum Pastry and their display case definitely convinced me to pick up some of their items. It's less popular than some of the other Pike Place Staples, but the quality of the items I tried were stellar. Definitely not cheap though, but Pike Place isn't exactly the place to go if you're looking for a steal. Fried Lamb Bun (4.25/5): The outside was lightly crunchy and the dough was fluffy. My concern with stuffed brioches is always that I'm worried, they'll eat dry, but this one was delightful - stuffed to the brim with spiced lamb. It is slightly gamey if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, but I personally thought it was fantastic. Pastel De Nata (4.25/5): I really loved the crust, just insanely flaky and buttery. The egg custard was smooth, but the lemon flavor in it threw me off a bit. Personal preference (cough nostalgia cough): I didn't need the acidity, but if someone told me this was their favorite version of an egg tart, I would totally understand. read more

Was strolling in pike place market the other day and my eyes caught an image of one of my favorite pastries of all time, the Portuguese Pasteis de Nata. I mentally bookmarked the place and today I decided to try it. Got there at 10AM, they were opening and were still waiting for the goods to be delivered by their kitchen I guess. I waited and finally the van arrived with the goods. Got two Pasteis still warm, freshly baked. OMG they were delicious, the puff pastry shell was super crunchy and the filling was warm and custardy, with a hint of cinnamon. They bake them in taller molds than the original, so they're a bit bigger, but delicious nonetheless. The only nitpick I have is that the custard was a bit grainy, but WTH, it was delicious. I'll need to try their food too sooner or later! Great find! read more

Stopped by the shop as part of a coffee tour. The experience was amazing and the coffee so yummy. We tried the sambuscand they were great!! The owner was so lovely and the coffee and sambusas good that I bought a treat for later. It was a flakey cone with a rose cream inside. It was definitely floral and I could see where some people would not enjoy that part of it but I loved the uniqueness of the taste and the flakiness of the pastry was amazing. This has become one of my fav lunch places in the market. The lentil sambusa has warm, delicious spices and flavor. It tastes familiar and yet has its own twist on those flavors, resulting in something far from the the gloppy vegetarian sambusas and samosas you have probably had in the past. The pasties de nata is the house specialty and deservedly so. The crust is flaky and rich but not so much that it overwhelms the smooth citrusy custard. Sometimes the crust has been a bit thick. But I have to say that the one I had Thursday had a nice extra chunk at the bottom center that was surprisingly pleasant to eat. The crema cones are not to be missed. A rose/pistachio is subtle, delicious, creamy and crunchy with a flaky phyllo dough cone. The almond orange cake was a refreshing afternoon treat. I look forward to having a date lunch there and scheduling the Ethiopian coffee break. read more

This was a stop on our chef-guided tour with Eat Seattle, and it was divine! Apparently this is the first Ethiopian food at the market, which has Jamaican influences. We tried a meat pie with perfectly spiced meat in a beautiful short crust dipped in a green sauce that tied it all together.
