Staying at the ocean club hotel where this restaurant is located. Decided to have dinner here at 8pm. We were told we had to wait and they would text once the table was ready by 45 minutes. Once 60 minutes went by I went in to check. I was told by the manger who was clearly annoyed that they weren't taking walk ins but I could sit at the bar I asked her why wasn't I offered this option before ? No answer..... they had hardly any tables to serve so I don't understand why they were so backed up. The staff is overworked & They don't have enough staff. The hostess is not very helpful and she doesn't really know much if you ask her a question. As for the food. It was good but not worth paying for terrible service or attitude. I wouldn't eat here again even if I stay at the hotel. They need to hire someone who can manage the restaurant ASAP if they want it to be somewhat high end. read more

DONT GO HERE!!! Came in tonight me and my husband. We were a little early for our reservation so the hostess told us we could grab a seat at the bar. We were confused because there was about 15 tables at least open. Okay no worries. As soon as we ordered our drink she says table is ready. Waited for our drinks and then got seated. Bartender was very nice. That's the end of the good and nice part. Our server Val was HORRIBLE! I have had bad service before but this was just unacceptable. She comes to greet us and has an attitude that we already have drinks. She said " oh so u got drinks already? That's great!" With an attitude. And walks away. Me and my husband were stunned looking at eachother. Someone brings us bread and water. About 15 min she comes over and says " can I take your order?" With an attitude. I ask if there are any specials because I over heard another server saying the specials and she "no". And asked if we were ready if not she had other tables. Excuse me? We just ordered the food. After waiting about 30 min for oysters and shrimp we asked if our apps were coming. She says yes. Another 15 min goes by. My husband waves her down and asks again. She rolls her eyes and Says "I just said they were coming. " wow! Very nice! Finally get our food. Never came to check on us or clean up dirty dishes. Still had app plates and oyster shells when she dropped check. No refills on water. Never bothered to ask if we wanted another drink. Didn't mention dessert. Just attitude. We dined there on 5/18/19 and we failed to be impressed with the service. The food was okay, the Calamari was a little greasy, and our second basket of bread was stale, he apologized, took the basket back but didn't come back with fresh bread. The Cobia and Filet Mignon were excellent, although we had to ask for a steak knife about seven minutes later. We order one mixed drink and one glass of wine. I ordered a second mixed drink and I finished the meal before it even arrived, so I told our waiter to cancel it, but it still came to the table, so we had to tell the server to bring it back because we were ready for coffee and dessert. The waiter again apologized and said that a large party, of six people, came in and that is why the drink arrived late! When I went to the Men's room, the bar had only four people so I am not sure what the delay was? The dessert selection was run of the mill so I just had coffee. A manager did come to the table to ask if everything was okay and we let her know all the things in this review. The restaurant was not busy at all so the service should have been spot on for what we paid to dine there for two people ... $130! The atmosphere is high end with a view of the beach, and the food is classic--with a unexpected, but tasty, twist. We decided to give it a try for restaurant week and we weren't disappointed. My husband had the Jersey corn & crab soup and the soy braised short ribs and I had the fine herb salad (served lightly dressed, just the way I like it) and sliced ahi tuna steak in a yummy spicy penang curry. I had my wedding reception here on October 13, 2013. It was a family style luncheon. The menu was similar to their chef's tasting menu with a few substitutions. First the variety of the food was amazing, even my vegetarian friend was full after the meal. The entrees were fabulous. Everyone thought the meal was done after the first few dishes came out, but there was more - the roasted chicken and the blue cheese hanger steak (substitute). I waited for the steak and I was not disappointed!!! I was nervous because my husband and I like comfort food but we loved the space so much we went for it. We were not disappointed by the food and got rave reviews from everyone. The service was impeccable, everyone was so friendly and courteous. They were attentive and helpful. So we stayed at the Ocean club hotel recently for a short vacation and visited the sea salt a few times... we got a chance to experience breakfast, lunch and dinner service. Looking at a lot of the reviews I agree with a lot of things...first off service for the most part was good, definitely saw the fly issue that one review mentioned. Prices were a little on the higher side but to be expected considering where you are and time of year. We have two smaller children so they were very accommodating with the kids also good environment with the kids as it tends to be on on the louder side. Ultimately comes down to the food and We thought the food overall was good but not outstanding. read more

We arrived at Sea Salt at 6:25 on 8/29/18 for our 6:30 reservation to celebrate my mom and aunts birthdays. We were immediately seated and then greeted by our waiter AJ who was amazing. We ordered appetizers (crab soup, oysters, and calamari) which were delicious, and came out quickly around 6:45-6:50. At 7:10 AJ informed us that our dinner would be out shortly and we continued to engage in conversation but Around 7:20 I noticed that People who arrived after us were being served their meals. My aunt and mother ordered the BBQ CHICKEN and I the fish so I didn't think it should take that long to prepare. I asked AJ if our food would be up soon at 7:30 and he informed us there was a "problem in the kitchen" but it would be out shortly. In this time the manager was seen making her way table to table to check on her patrons but each time skipped our table. At around 7:50 I asked AJ to cancel our meals but he convinced us not to by assuring us that our food was "coming to the window" and would be out "any minute." He also said he was going to speak to the manager to compensate us. As 8pm rolled around we still had no meal. The manager was seen again greeting all the tables around us and checking in but never even looked at us. Finally at 8:05 AJ brought out our food which was delicious but by then our time was already ruined. I can say that AJ was an amazing waiter and he did speak with the manager. She took off our drinks and appetizers from our bill and did finally came over to our table to apologize.......as we were getting up to leave. Other tables around us finally started to get appetizers however some of them arrived well after we did and our small children could no longer wait for chicken fingers! Grade of "F" Our waiter took our order and 80 minutes later gave us our check. He didn't stop to inquire about the meal. He did however ask multiple times if we wanted some drinks from the bar. It was annoying after the first 2 times we said "no." Time between plates was entirely too long as well. Food was mediocre. Grade of "C-" Smoked trout, pickled beets and crispy shallots on iceberg lettuce for appetizer. The portions were incredibly small. Too much effort on presentation. It was pretty and elegant but average in taste. Scallop au poivre, cauliflower purée, balsamic reduction main entrée. Under cooked scallops. Again, the portions were incredibly small. Mocha cheese cake, cinnamon graham cracker crust, coffee ice cream dessert. When restaurants do stupid stuff like serve ice cream and cheesecake on a hot plate, it makes me wonder if the line in the back is even taking the time to wash their hands. By the time it hit my table, it was 1/2 melted. I've never spent $35.00 on a meal and left hungry. There are too many restaurants in the Cape May area doing things SO much better than Sea Salt for me or my friends and family to ever return. Don't bother, you'll be disappointed. read more

My spouse and I started with the coriander tuna app & a red snapper/salmon roe ceviche app. Both had a nice warm Asian spice that was lite, crispy & refreshing. I ordered the tuna with proseca - fantastic eddy! My partner had the prawn entree - a generous portion that was sweet & spicey. I had the lamb prepped in beer - so tender & served w/ the creamiest mashed potatoes & roasted carrot. We had a lovely evening out on the patio. I only wish they had quarters for the meter only parking out front - I got a $32 ticket! They tried hard to make up for it. Finally the hostess gets off the phone and went to sit us. The restaurant had 4 tables with customers. She put the menus down on a table in the middle. Went for restaurant week and was looking forward to a delicious meal like we had at last year's restaurant week. Sadly, we were disappointed. After being seated and placing our orders, we were asked at least 5 different times to order something from the drink menu. The drink menu was nothing special and they were definitely overcharging for very 'plain/simple' cocktails. I get that drinks are expensive, but if I'm paying that much money for a cocktail I want it to be something special that I can't make at home- like their blueberry vodka and lemonade (which is all over Pinterest right now, just like many of their drinks). The appetizers were the highlight of the meal. The coriander-crusted tuna with asparagus was delicious. The portion was ridiculously small for the price, but we practically licked the sauce off of the plate! The smoked trout was good as well, but nothing to knock your socks off. The scallops dish was beyond disappointing. There were 4 decent sized scallops sitting in the middle of a HUGE plate, with a smearing of cauliflower and balsamic reduction. The scallops were grossly under-cooked and were unarguably still raw in the very center. I can't imagine anybody intentionally eats scallops like that. The entree consisted of just those things. 4 scallops, and probably about 1 tablespoon of cauliflower. I have never been so hungry after eating an entree in my entire life. And their presentation (large plate with paste and reduction smeared on it) was clearly trying to look 'fancy' but sadly it only highlighted the fact that you were paying all that money for very little food. On to the desserts, which had been the highlight of our last trip. The banana springroll dish was basically a chunk of banana wrapped in an eggroll wrapper and fried. It came out flavor-less and greasy. The ice cream lacked any honey flavor at all and was served right next to the eggroll on a piping hot plate. Most of it had melted before I was even able to try any. The mocha cheesecake was decent, but was also served on a hot plate. I can't even imagine who thought it would be a good idea to send desserts out on hot plates, but it did not work out well. Aside from the food, I cannot recall ever having worse service than what we received that night. It was over an hour and half from start to finish, and we placed our orders immediately since we had already been eyeing up the restaurant week menu. Our 'waiter' stopped by at the end of the meal to give us the dessert and the check. Other than that, we had not seen him all night. The bus girl was fantastic and quickly refilled our water every time we needed it (which was often since we were so hungry)! I have never spent that much time waiting around for food, and they were not particularly busy that night so I can't imagine what excuse they might have. Overall, I would NEVER go back to this restaurant. It is overpriced for less than mediocre food and terrible service. If you want a nice meal in Cape May, there are so many other places to choose from. It is unfathomable that a place like this will last long with such amazing competition. read more

We were looking for a breakfast spot and didn't want to stand in line for a half hour for pancakes. We headed down Beach Ave. and figured we'd try a hotel restaurant. We stumbled upon Sea Salt and have it a try. This turned out to be an excellent choice. The food was fresh and delicious. Our waitress was attentive without hovering, and she spent a good amount of her free time entertaining our 11 month old from afar, making our breakfast more manageable. We had our wedding at the Sea Salt / Ocean Club Hotel in June 2014 and just went back for our 1 year anniversary. It was wonderful! Nearly all the staff remembered us and treated us like royalty. The bartenders even remembered how to make our signature cocktail we had at the wedding a year ago. Everyone is always so accommodating and helpful. We spent our one year anniversary at dinner at Sea Salt where Chef Lou never disappoints! Plus, the service was fast, friendly and informed. We had a new addition to the summer menu to start - a watermelon and scallop sashimi dish - it was perfectly light, tasty and refreshing! The rest of the meal was amazing as usual. The pork chops appetizer is so delicious! The scallops and halibut entrees were great. And the new dessert - banana spring rolls with burnt honey ice cream was perfect. The breakfast was also great. And hanging by the pool with some cocktails and light pool fare is one our our favorite things to do. We plan to go back to Sea Salt and The Ocean Club Hotel for the rest of our lives. We came for dinner at 6 on a Monday, as a change of plans. No trouble getting a table. Things were starting to get a little busier by the time we left, but still not crowded. Service was well-trained and friendly but rather intrusive without being particularly attentive. One big positve was that the proper flatware was provided promptly without requests being required. We started with a green salad and a watermelon salad with duck confit. The green salad was adequate but small and too salty. The duck confit was very tasty. Main courses were seafood pasta fra diavolo and scallops au poivre. The pasta got a good comment from my husband. The scallops were tasty but too salty, and quite small; the accompanying cauliflower puree was good. We are in our 60's and no longer are huge eaters, generally preferring quality over quantity. However we did feel a bit underfed. It saddens me to write this review about the decline in the quality of food at Sea Salt. We've been coming here several times every summer and enjoying cocktails and several shared appetizers. Up until last night the food was always above average and simply delicious. Last night that all changed as the food was not good at all. The signature Baby Back Ribs were totally changed - the sauce was different, the ribs were big (not baby backs), and the meat was tough and gristly. In the Grilled Octopus Salad the highlight was the arugula greens while the octopus was tasteless. The Seafood Ceviche was one of the worst I've ever had and the presentation did nothing to help. The only saving point of the evening was the Ocean Club Cocktail, which thankfully hasn't changed. But something is seriously wrong in the kitchen. We won't be back this summer unless that is fixed. read more

The bartender showed interest in checking on how we liked our drinks and the Chef made the rounds. The rib appetizer was great with a tangy and hot sauce. My husband liked his ribeye but my scallops were only fair in comparison to other local restaurants serving Cape May's local seafood favorite.
