I bought 2 furnaces and 2 ac's for my home, may of 2016- bought an extended warranty may of 2017 with two service calls (fall and summer tune ups) Polite phone calls. If i was gonna use my warranty i wouldn't have called to make half the payment to get the parts ordered. I was indeed told my limit switches where bad and control board was bad i know nothing about HVAC. I wouldn't just be throwing that out there and given the circumstances i was told the parts would be in Tuesday i never heard anything when i called Wednesday no one knew what was going on and the lady didn't even order the parts. I canceled and called Apex pros and they fixed my heat the same day no parts so obviously it was a money tactic and significant up charge. How does another company come and fix the problem all i needed was a new thermostat that i purchased. The old one kept blowing the furnace fuse because it was bad so there was never a problem to begin with just a bad thermostat so again no bad sequencers at all just a money tactic from your company to try and get over on people not good at all. 1100 is absurd and either way it goes if i needed a sequencer or a limit switch they not even no more then 40 dollars i only needed one i hope this rewiew helps someone else not get scammed into overpaying for things they don't need read more

Do NOT call them for AC repair. The work was friendly and effective, but they charged us $900 for a "voltage enhancement system". This sounded fishy for having the part on hand and 30 minutes of work and a 6 month warranty. Apparently "voltage enhancement system" is not a real part name. It refers to a job that regularly costs half that. They use sales tactics such as asking you to pick from a menu to make you feel like $900 is reasonable in comparison. It would have cost even more for them to wipe down the coil while they were in there! We got ripped off and feel terrible. read more

I just had the exact same experience as many others have seem to have had. They use FRAUDULENT and DECEPTIVE practices to STEAL your money. The worker came out Saturday and was very professional and capable. My small unit was working but just not blowing cold air. It was a simple fix he diagnosed right away. The "capacitor" component on the exterior unit was bad. Basically the battery needed to be replaced. He said this is very common and he has the part in the truck. He then showed me the price on his phone making me believe that was the price for the part (it did not include the additional $75 service charge). It took him no more than 10 minutes to install (which watching this, anyone could have easily done themselves), he sprayed off the unit with cleaner and a hose, another 10 minutes and then checked the temperature in the house. THEY CHARGED ME $966 FOR A PART THAT COST $81 and my 6 year old could have installed. I see ownership has responded to the other reviews that have had this same terrible experience and have replied "call us so we can make this right". So before writing this I did that. I called and spoke with the service manager Michelle and logically explained my issue and that I understand a healthy markup but not $1000 on an $80 part that's so simple to replace, and leading people to believe that is the price of the part. She was unwilling to make it right. Stating they have flat pricing and that they charge for the expertise of the repairman NOT the actual service provided. Anyone, including Michelle, would feel the same as myself and everyone else they steal from if this happened to her/them. There are good people in this world but this company is not one of them. That was not an automated response....I have not spoken with you, otherwise you would reveal who you are and post when I talked with you and what you you and I discussed. I have only talked with Brian, Carly and Joe (and a technician who installed the 1st thermostat) about the issues I was having. You do not know both sides of the story. So you assume whoever or whatever employee you spoke with gave you the correct information. Never once has an owner or a member from management called and talked about the issues that I have been dealing with. Seems like you you took the money and ran and quite frankly do not want to make this right. That's why you have bad customer reviews. What should have taken 2 visits has turned into 10. If everything went as smoothly as you say, then explain all the visits. I have never had a company have such poor communication and customer service. It seems you like to demonize everybody that writes a bad review and nothing is your fault. Buyer beware, go find a company that has a 5 star review. You're right, I will find a much better company and hopefully they won't tell me that it was installed backwards, otherwise I will see you in Court for not taking care of the issue. I had them come out with 3 other companies for furnace and water heater install. They swore they could work with brand new nest thermostat . Well i got furnacw and it does not work with nest and also cold water in upstairs bathroom. I called tech who was EXTREMELY RUDE AND NOT HELPFUL. WORST IN MY 61 YEARS. Would not even give his name. Do not recommend for fireplace service.Basically wasted my money. They lit gas fireplace and it worked for less than 24 hours. They didn't want to come back out because they weren't sure what was wrong; no offer of refund for the waste less trip they made. read more

We had used another company for years, but became dissatisfied with them. Since we had a Sears Card we thought we could give them a try. Our only disappointment was they don't accept the Sears Charge for work done. We called and got a quick appointment. They showed up right on time and quickly diagnosed the problem and had the parts. Our furnace was back up and running quickly. They did suggest some other work that needed done and I knew enough about the situation to recognize this was a legitimate suggestion and an important safety consideration. Their estimate for the additional work was very reasonable and although it had to be done at a late date, I was not charged any additional service call charges. That second appointment was also on time and professional. They are now my preferred people. read more

We called Sears Heating & Cooling for a estimate on a new air conditioning unit. Also called 2 other companies out. Estimates were comparable, however Sears Heating & Cooling were a step above on service which is what really counts after the sale.. Sales people were amazing, the installers were awesome & the service guys have been very kind, & professional. They call 30 minutes before they arrive, wear the covers over their shoes & if you have pets are always very kind to them. My overall experience with them has been nothing but positive, & their pricing I feel is very fair.. read more

Brian Swiger has been our rep. from Sears Heating and Cooling for years. He is excellent and does a great job. He always makes sure that he speaks to my husband who has Alzheimer's and who asks about four or five times who he is and Brian always makes him feel very comfortable. The work is always good and I have a service maintenance program for my air conditioner and for our furnace which Sears Heating and Cooling sold to us and installed same. Hired Sears Heating and Cooling after I received an advertisement for a $79 Furnace Tune-Up. As a note, my furnace is only 3-years-old, but hadn't been running efficiently. Technician arrived nearly an hour before the scheduled window, interrupting a virtual work meeting I had. After inspecting the furnace for 5 minutes, he then tries to charge me an additional $230 to do a Band-Aid fix and make the adjustments needed. He claimed the advertised $79 Furnace Tune-Up was actually just a $79 Furnace inspection. However, on the listed work invoice, it showed that all the adjustments he was going to make were already included in the invoice for the $79 furnace tune-up. When I pointed this out, the technician became obstinate and combative saying he would never do the advertised work for the advertised price. He pulled out his phone to show the flier to try to tell me the offer I received yesterday was expired. Except even the offer he pulled up on his phone said it was valid for 2 more weeks. He lied directly to my face and tried to charge me hundreds more for what should have been a simple tune-up. It wasn't until he called his home office that they informed him it was advertised and he would have to complete the job. He said it would take an hour to do properly. Instead, he calls me back in after 10 minutes and said he did some of the necessary tune-up repairs but ignored other parts and then he left. After he left, I realized he cut the power off to my furnace and left my house without heat for three hours until I was able to get back in touch with them to get power restored to the furnace. The furnace was barely operational throughout the rest of evening. Woke up this morning with my house at 58 degrees because now whatever "tune-up" they technician performed has completely busted the unit and my furnace was only blowing cold air. The entire furnace was cold to the touch. I tried to contact them again this morning but was put on hold and then they hung up on me while on hold. Finally, I got back in touch with them only for them to tell me that the person who could delegate the issue was not available for three more hours meanwhile my house is slowly freezing. Not wanting to deal with such a dishonest, predatory and incompetent business again, I requested a refund and will be handling the repair with a more reputable company. I highly recommend nobody utilize this company if you want transparency, honesty or competency. They may have permanently damaged a 3-year old furnace and left my house without heat in the middle of winter. read more

Caveat emptor - "Let the buyer beware"! The doctrine of caveat emptor must be practiced when dealing with Sears Heating and Cooling. Unfortunately, I did not practice it and in not doing so it has cost me dearly in time and money. I have been a customer of Sears Heating and Cooling for 13 or 14 years. I have spent thousands of dollars with them on a furnace, two heat pumps and various service calls. I have paid a monthly fee for a preventive maintenance agreement. I have had my HVAC systems inspected both spring and fall. Over the years I have been with them, I found them a bit pricey compared to other HVAC companies, but they seemed responsive to my needs, so I did not go looking elsewhere for service. Thirteen years ago, Sears Heating and Cooling installed a new energy efficient (for that time) electric furnace and new heat pump. Eleven years later, the heat pump went out, one year after the warranty expired. When the repair technician arrived to look at the unit, he determined what the problem was and explained that because the unit was eleven years old, the part needed to repair it was no longer manufactured and that I would have to purchase a new heat pump. I should have gotten a second opinion at that time, but did not do so because I trusted Sears...but in retrospect, I should have because I paid thousands of dollars for a new heat pump that may not have been necessary. I have provided this background, because I want the potential customer looking at using Sears Heating and Cooling, to know that they do not take care of long standing customers, who have spent thousands of dollars and have remained loyal for so many years. Obviously, loyalty only works one way with Sears! The latest problem with Sears Heating and Cooling involves my furnace going out on Tuesday, November 1st. We called Sears, primarily because we have used them for years and have a service agreement with them. Their service technician arrived on Thursday afternoon. He provided no estimate, but told my wife the repair would be "about $1200.00. When it was completed, the charge was $1655.00. When I attempted to obtain an itemized statement of invoice, a Sears office representative told me that I was not entitled to receive an itemized statement. How am I not entitled to an itemized statement that outlines the various charges, i.e. cost of part(s), labor cost, including total labor hours and the amount of sales tax I was charged. I have made various attempts at getting the information, but my inquiries are ignored or I am provided a company line of BS. According to Sears Heating and Cooling, the following is how they charge: Parts are 25%-30% of price; Labor is 25%-30% of price; Overhead is about 25% of price; and Profit is 10%-20% of price. My question remains...what is the price of the part, because the $1655.00 I was charged was based on the cost of the new ECM blower motor, and I have not found, through my extensive research with Carrier Bryant HVAC dealers, the model of ECM blower motor for my furnace that has a retail cost exceeding $674.99. Let me start this by saying that I wrote this review live as things were happening. I felt this was the best way to keep things accurate and fair. Because of this my review is somewhat lengthy. The "in a nut shell" review is that Sears was AMAZING, went above and beyond, were professional, and would be recommended to anyone. I will not be using any other HVAC company in the future. My full review is as follows: Our AC unit was 25 years old and decided it didn't want to work anymore. After about 3 weeks of attempting to tough it out we caved in. Sears Heating and Cooling came recommended to us. I gave them a call and within 3 hours they had someone at my house to look at things and give me my options. After looking everything over the sales man sat down with me and explained everything. He gave me multiple options at different price points. I had a few questions and he answered them with great knowledge and did not pressure me in anyway to make a decision. I was already impressed with the professionalism and my AC hadn't even been installed yet. This is where the only negative thing I have is, however hear me out because it does turn into a positive. Unfortunately, not to any fault of the company, they were booked with installs and couldn't get to mine for a week. Thankfully the wonderful and professional people at the office were able to move things around over the next few days and I got my install moved up by three days. Excellent customer service. The install technicians arrived the day of and on time. They were both extremely polite, introduced themselves and explained exactly what they needed to do and what they were doing throughout the process. During the install the coil would not fit in my current furnace duct situation. The people at office went above and beyond, again, to find a coil that would fit and still give me the efficiency that the original coil would have. We were told, that because of the coil change, our unit would no longer be eligible for a rebate through our electric company. Sears took it upon themselves to give us the rebate cost back in the total price of the install. Again, I was amazed by their customer service. The install was completed right around the 8 hour mark which is what I was told it would take. The techs ensured everything was working great and cleaned up nicely after themselves. I had a fantastic experience with Sears and will continue to use their service in the future. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. read more

Our AC went out, so after checking all the regular stuff like the drain pan in the evaporator unit, making sure I didn't have a dirty filter or dirty coil, circuit breaker, etc, I called these guys. They came out the same day (a Monday after a very hot weekend). Joe, the technician, looked everything over and it turned out to be a faulty board that runs the blower. We went over the pros and cons of a new unit (since our unit is getting up there in age), and Joe kept me very informed and was extremely knowledgeable. I decided on the new board over the new unit. Joe said he had to check the heat exchanger for cracks (could be a carbon monoxide issue) before installing the board. He got in there, looked everything over, and honestly told me it looked OK. I really appreciated the honesty here because I've had some friends ripped off in this area. Anyway, Joe replaced the board, checked everything over, took his time, and gave me a fair price. I called Sears to fix my wall furnace and they sent out a technician who could do that. I found the tech to be extremely knowage and polite. Unfortunately his attempt on the first trip didn't work. So I called again and he came back out the next day. And the next day. [grin] On this last trip he brought another tech with him and between the two of them they decided that my problem was bigger than both of them. So my furnace still isn't working but I really appreciated their time and perseverence. read more

Stay away from this company! Our air conditioner, which was only four years old, had stopped working. We called Sears and got a very high quote for repair. We decided to hold off on purchasing a new air conditioner. But we did agree to purchase a service contract. So, they returned the next year and told us the price of the new air conditioner had doubled. Sears removed my old AC Unit and installed a new 3.5 ton AC unit. Jamie was on time for the estimate and very professional. He showed me a few different options and reviewed the pros and cons of each option. After getting two more estimates which were very comparable I went with Sears. The installer was very professional taking the time to cover our floors and eave talk to my curious 4 year old son. Jamie stopped by during the installation to check the progress which was nice but not necessary because of how smooth the install was going. Our furnace stopped working this morning. We submitted a quick online request for service on the Sears Heating & Cooling website. A representative called within 5 minutes and a few moments later, we were on the schedule for a service visit for today's morning window! The technician called to give us a 30 minutes out courtesy phone call as the representative promised. Joe arrived about 30 minutes later in a SHC clearly marked service van and in an SHC uniform. He was pleasant, professional and did not ask if I needed him to put on booties before entering our house - he put them on just inside the door as he is supposed to. O have actually experienced some technicians ask if they should put booties on "because it is a clear, dry day" - who knows what oil, grease or substance is on a technicians boots? Good service protocol is to put booties on as a rule, regardless of whether it is a nice day or not.. Joe listened to my description of what happened without interrupting and immediately got to work running diagnostics. After first checking carbon monoxide levels (outbound and in-house), he then identified the cause of the failure. Joe clearly explained to me what happened and showed me the part that had failed. He showed me the cost levels for replacing the part and allowed me to select without turning it into a car salesman scenario - very professional and thorough but not pushy. Joe did see a potential problem with another part and showed me the evidence that will likely cause the part to fail. He recommended replacing the other part (one time and only one time) and he showed me the replacement cost tiers. I explained that we are about to have a baby and our budget is somewhat strained and that we need to let the other part ride for now. He acknowledged the situation and gave us a professional opinion of what the likely remaining life window could and/or might be - end of discussion. He replaced the failing part with a new one that he had stocked in his van and we were good to go! I give Sears Heating & Cooling an A+ rating for this service visit as well as the other service visits they have provided us before at our other house in years past. Thanks Joe & SHC! read more

I have been an SHC customer for nearly 20 years. In our previous home, they did everything from replace our dead AC unit to emergency service on our furnace to annual maintenance on both units. When we moved, we stayed with them. Fantastic service techs - VERY knowledgeable, and NOT in the sales business. I've had the same 3 techs come out over the years, which tells me they are well-trained and well-treated by SHC. As a company, they are responsive, and their sales folks are equally as knowledgeable as their techs, and don't play the high pressure game. Had new heat pump installed 4 years ago and decided it was time for a service call. unit was installed by Sears and I had no problems with the initial service. After 5 minutes of service I received the "Sir can I see you for a minute" from the technician. He pointed out a slight oil film on the capacitor and said it was a sign it was going bad, I informed him that parts warranty was for 10 years. "Conveniently" he had one in the truck. he could install............for $121 installation fee, This part has one screw that holds it in place on the heat pump and three terminals to connect it...he was already here...had the part..and wanted 121 Bucks to install! Scam.........I went back out an found the same light oil film build on most every component in the heat pump. What a joke. And oh, the capacitor is 25 bucks online so they are making quite the killing replacing good parts with new parts. read more

I would ABSOLUTELY NOT recommend Sears Heating and Cooling. I called them on a Saturday for them to come out and look at my furnace as it would not heat. They came out promptly enough and determined that the issue was a faulty inducer motor on my Bryant HE furnace. I researched and found out that this motor sells for $189. Sears quoted me a price of $1,069. Absolutely ridiculous to charge this much just because they think they can. I would NOT RECOMMEND anyone use this company as they overcharge their customers. I refused the service and still had to pay $129 just for them to come out. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are NOT associated with Sears & Roebuck. read more

They where out to my house twice, first tech fixed problem but told us of cracks in burner and that we should think about replacing a 9 yo furnace. Problem surfaced again, we called they send another tech out who told us that the furnace was unsafe and he "red tagged it", and left us with a $5400 estimate to fix it, and coincidently they could have someone out tomorrow... I called another service company, who discovered that our problem was a frozen gas line, inspected the furnace and said that cracks in a burner where wear and tear, that we should replace as some point in time, but no need right now. He advised we put a couple CO detectors in the house since the Sears guys where so concerned. Fast forward, furnace working well after gas line thawed by co-op, and co detectors steadily on ZERO.. which is what I would rate these guys.. Buyer beware.... read more

Sears Heating has serviced my HVAC for the 40 years I have lived in my house. I found their sticker on my old furnace when I moved in. They kept the old thing running for at least 25 years before finally having to tell me it had to go. Got a new furnace and my first whole house AC from them. Always available when I need them although with the "new "furnace that is not so often:) These guys rock. read more
