Seams to B

My experience with this seamstress way very okay-at-best…read more Pros: She comes to your house, which is very convenient. She did an okay job hemming the dress. She was very responsive to texts and communication. Cons: When I first met with her, I told her to save the extra fabric for me to keep. When I requested the fabric, she informed me that she didn't have it. No apology, no explanation, simply informed me. During our fittings, she would agree to alternations that didn't end up happening. I wasn't ultimately happy with how the bodice or the straps fit, but I didn't leave myself enough time to find someone else (that's on me). She sewed a pin into the hem of the dress, which ended up hurting one of my bridesmaids.

I wish I could say that I had a positive experience, but I do feel compelled to caution other brides against using Seams to B. She had my dress for 4 months and then I requested to take it back after I could no longer trust her. This was my honest experience. The vibes were off from the beginning. Penny is very quiet - she will not be your hype woman or ask you any questions about how you are feeling in the dress as she's making changes. For fittings, she comes to your house after she's done some alterations and just stands awkwardly in the corner while you're left to your own devices. Communication about each stage of the process was severely lacking for me. Oftentimes she would verbally list off what she would do before the next fitting and then show up next time without having done what she had promised. The first few fittings I let it slide - I'd never done this before and certainly altering a wedding dress is a lot of work. Then the situation worsened. The red flags became too much to ignore when she would ask me at multiple fittings, "when are you getting married again?". It started to become very clear that Penny is not "on top of it" as a business owner in this industry should be and doesn't take any notes. She started forgetting things I had asked for with the dress - the color of the lining she sewed in was wrong (nude when I said I wanted white), the size of the cups were too big (she had put the original ones in that came with the dress when I told her I needed A cups), etc. I decided it was the last straw when I sent her an inspiration picture of how I wanted the bodice to fit me because after FIVE fittings it still wasn't right, and she basically said the dress was already fitting that way and that there wasn't really anything she could do. Considering that my breasts were drowning in too-big cups and that there was too much fabric in the bust in general, including straps that were falling down all the time, this was very discouraging. I lost all confidence in how I felt in my dress that day. Having now taken my dress to a different seamstress, I am feeling regret that I wasted so much time and money using Seams to B, as I will have to pay for them to re-do some of the work that was done poorly. On the bright side, I was reassured that this dress CAN be made to fit me in the way that I want, which is how all brides should be supported and lifted up during their alterations.

Accurate Alterations

*Please also see attached photos*…read more After attempting to resolve this matter privately with Accurate Alterations without success, I'm sharing my experience publicly. On December 12, I brought seven garments to Accurate Alterations for alterations and paid in total $113. When the items were returned, while some garments were done well, I was dissatisfied with the results on several pieces. Specifically, in my opinion: -- One pair of jeans had an uneven hem and did not sit straight when worn. -- One pair of joggers no longer had the original taper, and the cuffs appeared inconsistently stitched. Additionally, they no longer feel like they fit like joggers but skinny pants instead. -- Another pair of joggers had similar issues but also interior stitching removed that was not restored. -- One pair of dress pants had an uneven hem and puckering at the bottom, and the original taper was not maintained. These garments were new and unworn prior to the alterations. Because of the nature of the work already done and my prior experience, further alterations would not be possible without significantly shortening the pants. I have reached out to Accurate Alterations multiple times since January 12th to discuss a resolution but we have yet to reach one that is mutually satisfactory. I'm seeking advice on what would be considered reasonable next steps. As I see it, I have a few options. In good faith I could try one more time to have them reexamine the work and try to fix it or I can seek reimbursement. Reimbursement could be a refund of alteration costs ($113), that amount plus a complete (~$100) replacement cost, or another fair solution. This post reflects my personal experience and opinion only. - Please advise.

She not only gave advice but offered great ideas as well, since this was my first time. We also had her hem my now husband's pants and fix a button on his vest. I would definitely recommend Accurate Alterations and will use Mitzi again fir any future alterations.
