Lai's alterations is where I go to get all of my alterations done. I usually get leggings or jeans shortened and they do a great job. One time I needed a dress to get sewed up more for the neck line and they did a good job with that but I would say that they do better at pants. I also had a whole patched in my pants recently and they did a good job with that. I would say that the prices are fair and they also have changing rooms so they can for you correctly. read more

I have had 5 clothing items altered at Lai's and each one has come out exactly as I wanted. I originally needed insulated hiking pants with a side pocket altered (length hemmed, thighs and waist taken in) and went to a different reputable alterations business in the area but was told the pants were not able to be altered because of the side pocket. I took them to Lai's and they were able to alter them perfectly - truly exactly how I wanted them. I then got another pair of hiking pants taken in and 3 dresses hemmed/taken in. I don't even try them on in store after having them altered, I know they will be done absolutely perfectly. I cannot recommend Lai's enough, I will take all of my clothing needs here and recommend them to anyone who will listen. read more

I've gone to Lai's since high school. I recently went in and had 3 dresses hemmed. They weren't able to give me a price, but I chose to accept not knowing on the front end and proceed. It ended up be about $120 to shorten the length of 3 dresses and shorten the sleeves, and also bring one of the dresses in slightly. I understand cultural differences and they were very friendly. I also tipped an extra fee dollars. They are reliable and fairly quick and I've never had any issues. read more

I have been to plenty of tailors in my life and Lai's is the best. I have had all types of alterations done there on different articles of clothing - trousers, shirts, jackets. He is very affordable and accurate. That being said, the tailor (Lai?) is quiet and not very talkative. You need to know what you want for the cut of your piece before you talk with him, otherwise he won't give many reccomendations. I've never needed to go to an alterations place until now. I picked Lai's because it had 4.5 stars. However, those year old reviews don't align with my recent experience. Customer service was non existent throughout my visit. The man that did my alterations was short with me and never gave me a direct answer about pricing or exactly how long it would take. All I needed was four buttons re-sewn. When I came to pickup my clothes the next day he charged me $20 for repairing three buttons. When I pointed out the fourth button was not fixed he repaired it on the spot. Would not pay $20 for something that could be done in less than 5 minutes total! read more

I have been going to Lai's Alterations for 7+ years now and have been so pleased with all of the work that he has done for me. Over the years I've thrown nearly every type of garment his way from brand new suits to old favorite jeans and he handles it all perfectly. Word of advice: Don't bring your stuff here to get altered, period. Now, admittedly, I am coming from the experience of an awesome little neighborhood cleaner/tailor in Chicago who would turn around beautiful hemming next-day for a reasonable price. I'm 5'2, so I get lots of stuff hemmed, and have been hoping to find a great place in Boulder for that, but Lai's is not it, I'm afraid. Just got some pants back that are a) too short and b) uneven and with a crooked hem in spots! Jeez. I brought in two of my wife's dresses for hemming and was greeted by the owner who was kind and attentive. The space is incredibly clean and spacious with multiple changing rooms and a waiting area. This is one of the best tailors I have ever used. I have many of my clothes altered to fit perfectly. Mr. lai is very honest about what he can and can't do, and does it well and cheaply. No it is not fast, but I don't want it to be done under pressure. People who have written negative reviews have unrealistic expectations. I was there when one woman asked her jeans be made an inch longer, when they had only the standard rolled hem. And was angry when he couldn't do it. And a bride wanted her voluminous wedding dress hemmed overnight, because she had changed her shoes, and left in a huff. Really, folks? read more
