TLDR: expensive, slow, low-quality repairs Roughly 6 months ago I had my shoes repaired here I had a terrible experience. I was inspired to finally write this review because the sole of my shoe has since fallen clean off so my frustration is renewed. I'm no expert, but I don't think 6 months should be the lifespan of a shoe repair. I brought in a pair of oxford docs to be polished and resoled. Notably, there was a crack in the midsole that I requested they repair (I was hoping that they would replace the whole sole but literally just some glue would suffice). They charged me nearly 100 dollars, did not offer me a receipt, and told me they'd call me in about 2 weeks when they were finished. Two weeks came and went and they did not call. So I called them. They stated they did not have any shoes matching my description and asked for information from the receipt (which they never gave me!). Eventually they did find my shoes, but they took another week contact me again. When they did, they told me they had finished my shoes but used the wrong sole, so they would have to redo them. When I finally went in to pick them up, they had totally ruined the finish (gross, thick, gelatinous looking polish), didn't even resole the shoe. They had simply glued new treads on and entirely ignored the crack. I understand that docs can be tricky to resole properly but if they were not able to do what I asked for then they should have a) been up front and b) not charged me 100 dollars. HORRIBLE. This place kept my shoes for a year and a half, and in return they were trashed. The suede that was once there was covered with a thick layer of paint, the sides are sticky and disgusting, the bottom of the shoes are no longer the louboutin red bottoms. They destroyed these shoes and wasted my time. read more

I have never left a true yelp review on my own time. BUT I have to for this place. Dropped a pair of boots off for a full mid sole replacement because it was cracked through. I was told I didn't need a mid sole replacement and it was unnecessary. I pleaded for a mid sole replacement and was met with "you don't need it". I get the boots back and in the first step re cracked the soles all the way through, I was assured I didn't need it AND I payed 185 for JUST an outsole that re cracked immediately. Realizing they probably didn't want to do the extra work. After asking for them to re do it because they just didn't fix them I would still have to pay no matter what. Rock&resole re did the whole boot for an even LESS cost and replaced the mid sole. Do what you please with this information. read more

I am so stoked on my resoled shoes and i honestly didn't think there would be more life in these shoes, but they feel brand new. Flaky to say the least - but when they finally get around to fixing your shoes or your suitcase, the work is satisfactory indeed.

I stopped in to Extreme Shoe Service after searching everywhere, to no avail to find a small ball screw, something like a Chicago screw for my day pack. The man behind the counter pulled out a draw of all these screws to see if he had what i needed. Then after working with him for 10 minutes or so, the owner came over and proceeded to continue the search. Mind you the tedious work, even if successful would not bring them much if any money...after about 30 minutes we gave up the search, unsuccessful except for the fact that I realized that I found a shoe place with the best ever customer service!!! Should have known to go elsewhere when I walked in and stood directly in front of the woman at the front counter who wouldn't look up from her phone to help me. Then they lost the ticket so the shoes that were promised in one week, hadn't even been started after two weeks. Upon going in to find out what was going on, I was promised the shoes the next day and of course, they were not ready two days later. They did a really good job repairing my sandals. I had no tread left (my shoes were worn completely smooth on the bottom!) and the straps on the side were starting to wear away. As you can see from the photo, they replaced my tread on the bottom of my shoes and repaired my straps. I think I'll get some more years out of these, which is great! Repair time was pretty good too - they can get backed up, but I dropped these off on Saturday and they were ready by Wednesday. I think the damage was relatively easy to repair, so that might have been a contribution to the quick turn-around. Both the customer service & work of this place are ATROCIOUS! I was lied to, cheated, and had my boots damaged by this place, don't be like me & ignore all of the bad reviews!!! On 1/24 I brought in a pair of doc marten boots to have some of the stitching repaired, they required me to pre-pay (charged me $50) and said they would have the boots ready for pick-up on 1/28. On 1/28 I was informed that my boots were 'lost' & was told to call back the following day to check if the boots had been located. The next day I heard from a man named Pierre who said he located my boots and would have them complete in a couple of hours, he also told me I would be refunded for the troubles I had experienced. When I went in 1/29 to pick up the boots I promptly informed that I would not be receiving a refund as 'they put more time into the boots', anyway I was appalled to find that instead of stitching the leather back together (like I had specifically asked for) it was SUPER GLUED...So there i am thinking...this must be a joke...I could have done this in my garage...I asked to speak to the owner & told him I would not be accepting my boots back in the condition they were in as this is not the repair we had agreed to, he told me he would have them re-repaired that night and delivered to my house by 7pm. I gave them my address & left only to have them NOT DELIVER MY SHOES like they said they would & dodge my phone calls for the remainder of the night. I called back this morning, 1/30, to ask about my shoes & guess what...they had not been re-repaired.....am I surprised at this point? NO! They told me to come in & they would have the shoes done by 12, well I arrived at the shop around 12:30, and they were not finished, so I waited there at the shop until they were finished at 1:20 & well I'll let you see the results and judge for yourself if you'd be pleased with this outcome...because I CERTAINLY AM NOT. To me it looks like they stitched an additional piece of leather (very very shittily, worst stitching i've ever seen) to cover the section they previously superglued together, and did not in fact address the initial structural repair. My experience is very similar to what other customers giving 1 star had. We dropped a leather briefcase off, had to prepay $80 for the repair of the handle and were told it would be ready within a week. We returned a week later, and it wasn't ready. The following day, it was the same story. Finally almost a week later than promised, we got the case back. The handle they added is incredibly ugly, disproportionate in size and has a hard surface that will be uncomfortable to carry once there's anything at all in the case. On top of that, it was a handle that required NO technical skill at all; it was strapped on both sides like a belt. As other people have mentioned, the shop smells like smoke - as does my case now. I was so happy to find a place within walking distance, but now I will never, ever take another article - certainly NOT shoes there again. read more

I needed to have 2 pairs of shoes widened as my feet got wider across the front. I did have to pay up front. The first time, they were still too narrow. There were about 4 iterations and now I can wear my shoes again. They said if the shoes become narrow again They will widen then for me at no extra charge. I would recommend taking a picture of your shoes as it helps them to find the shoes when you come in to pick them up. Great customer service read more

In a world where it seems that corporations choose profit over people, it's nice that small businesses choose people over profit. My 89-yo mom dropped off a pair of sandals to be cleaned. She was told that they would be ready Friday...they weren't. She was told to return Wednesday but they weren't ready. I was upset so I called and spoke with Rob. He quickly found out what happened and apologized. He empathized because he too has an octogenarian mom. Rob said that shouldn't have happened. He offered to deliver the shoes to my mom once they were done so she wouldn't have to go out in the snow. My mom was so pleased when I told her. I was too! Thank you Rob and Extreme Shoe Service. Very poor repair quality. I have brought several pairs of shoes there, and had to bring nearly all of them back to be re-repaired. Recently, I brought my only pair of winter boots there to be re-sized. Within a week of bringing them home, the backs of both boots separated from the soles and water and ice came into my shoes. I brought them to a different shoe repair shop to be fixed and they told me that Extreme had glued the uppers to the soles, but failed to stitch them back down. In addition, when they re-sized the boots, they did not measure my feet and they are now too small. They also repaired the back of the boot at an angle so that my heel doesn't stay in the bottom of the boot and has worn holes in the heels of all of my socks. I contacted Extreme 4+ times by phone to request a refund from the owner, Dan, but he failed to return my calls. Definitely do not recommend. read more

Amazing shoe repair on three pairs of very nice boots. Extremely fast turn around. I had a zipper pull replacement on the two tall boots that they also re soled and made shine like new (these are six year old boots now at least). I blew out the stitching in the rear on one of the doc martins so they repaired that and reheeled those too. And my timberland heels were crazy scuffed up and they look brand new too now (I've included a close up on the scuffs which are almost invisible now). My only regret is not taking a before picture. Very impressed. Will return. read more

I would give them a zero if Yelp would let me. My wife dropped off her boots here for a repair and after 3 weeks they were still not done. I stopped by the shop the next morning to pick them up and cancel the repair and they were so disorganized they couldn't even find the boots. I told the owner I would come back at the end of the day and I needed the boots back even if they were not repaired. There was a new employee when I came back and he spend 25 minutes digging through boxes and boxes of shoes pilled on top of each other. No boots. When the owner came out he joined the search for another 10 minutes with no luck. I have never seen such a poorly organized business. There were shoes and boots everywhere without any tags or paperwork. There were two other customers while I was there that they could not find their shoes either. I have no faith they will ever find my wife's boots given the time and effort they made while I was standing there. When I asked the owner what our options were for reimbursement he yelled at me that he would not pay for the boots. This store is an absolute nightmare and its clear there are some "issues" with the owner. I would highly recommend you find another option. read more

Mixed experiences here. I dealt with the owner once and he's a really nice friendly guy that was straightforward. The other guy with no/short hair is a little less pleasant. So great location, cool motorcycles, and they do what you ask. However the prices are high $18 for a lace hook and $30 for some new heels. The heels aren't a bad deal. The lace hook, a $1 piece was a terrible rip off. So the hook they put on is not the same color. Ok not a problem. However the hook the put on is not the same shape and has two rivets instead of one. So they punch a new hole into my goretex boots. Which is absolutely not ok and should've told me before fixing my boots they were going to do that. Absolutely not ok. It's pay in advance so I got suckered. Whatever. Needless to say after my second experience I won't be back. I will not however criticize their workmanship. They do the job well they only lack attention to detail/using similar parts. read more

I would agree with the people who've written "mixed bag" here. The shoe repair folks do truly excellent work -- that I can vouch for. I've lived all over the world, and their work is up there with the most perfectionist Italians or British shoe repairs I've known. However, they're not always the politest in the world, and I've never had same day service. (Although a bunch of people seem to indicate you can get that there... hmmm?) Also, "caveat emptor": you have to pay up front when you drop off your shoes, boots, bag or whatever. And they're not cheap. I had a pair of leather boots I used frequently for 5 years to the point that they were falling apart. They fit really well though, the leather was in good condition, and I had great memories with them. I brought them here and, though it was a little expensive, they look amazing now! Worth the price and cheaper than a new pair of boots. Super comfortable. I got new soles, a repair to the heal (which was falling apart), and new insoles. This is my first time getting shoes repaired but I will be back. They delivered the shoes on time and the condition exceeded my expectations. Thank you! read more

Brought my boot in for a super simple fix. I felt like it was pricey, to begin with, especially since they made me pay upfront. I came back to get my boot and the strap that was put on was not symmetrical with the other. Between the price and work, I will likely be saving my shoes that need to be fixed and bringing them back to the cobbler in my hometown in the northeast. I took an old pair of Allen Edmonds for a resole. I specifically asked for a resole, and was quoted $90 for rubber and $100 for leather. Seemed about normal for a resole on a goodyear welted shoe. I went to pick up, and they had glued on rubber half soles and heel top lifts. They told me "you don't need full soles, we do this all the time." I ended up paying $90 for something I could do myself for $10. I'm glad I didn't take them a more expensive pair of shoes, I will not be going back. read more

I walked into Extreme Shoe Repair at 6:55 p.m. The door was open. The owner, Dan promptly help me. Instead of taking my name and number and telling me he would get back to me, he started fixing the problem on my satchel bag immediately. When I glanced at the door, I saw that the store's actual closing time is 6 PM. I offered to come back later. He said, "if I'm here, I'm working. I'm happy to help" I have minimal times available and felt very grateful for his attention and care. He fixed my issue within ten minutes. I can't believe I've been caring the bag around in my car for six months! He also has a really sweet dog in the store. And who can pass up a cute dog named "Homey". Thanks for your help, Dan. Do I have to give one star? This place is awful. They took my boots to repair the heels. The first time I came to pick them up when they had promised the boots would be ready, they couldn't find them. I came back a few days later and they still had trouble finding them. I came back a third time and they were finished. I took them home. The next day I wore them for about 10 minutes before the layer of dye they put on the heels scraped off. They charged me $40 for something I could have done myself with a Sharpie in two minutes. Plus they have calendars hanging behind the counter that objectify women and I feel very uncomfortable in that shop. After living in Boulder for 3 years and recently moving away I wish I could pack this place up and take it with me. I am honestly surprised that someone had a bad experience here. Before you drop of your shoes know that they ALWAYS run a day or two late. So when they day Monday, they really mean Tuesday or Wednesday. Annoying, yes, but worth waiting a day for (and at least now you know). I have broken countless heels, worn through soles, taken leather off a high heel (I'm kind of clumsy) and every time I go in they fix my shoes like new. Last time I was in, and in a GIANT hurry (did I mention I no longer live in Boulder?) the heel to my favorite strappy silver shoes had broken clean off and ripped some of the actual shoe with it. They are an especially weird color (think 1975 roller disco, hot-pants silver) and I was legitimately praying to a higher power that they could fix it. I went in an seriously begged to get them done in 3-4 hours (it was noon by the time I got there) and they said it would be no problem. "The Boss," whom the woman at the counter admitted had done too many drugs in the 60's, rambled around for a bit then assured me they would look awesome. I returned 3ish hours later and although my shoes were still wet, I was amazed. You would never have been able to tell the shoes had been repaired. They matched the color to a T! AND the shoes do not feel like the feel has been repaired - they still hurt my feet, but I don't think they fix the foolishness of women's fashion here. PROS: Awesome and professional work that is unparalleled. They are willing to work with you if you are in a hurry or have a shoe emergency. CONS: Always run late. "The Boss" can be hard to understand/talk to, but rest assured he hears what you are saying to him. Parking can be a pain. THINGS OF NOTE: They make you pay up front. Overall? Even if I have to wait two weeks longer for quality work done on expensive shoes I am willing to wait for it. This store does take some patience, but it is well worth the wait. 5 Stars! read more

I was skeptical when I walked in to drop off my shoes and the clerk was telling a woman that her repair hadn't been completed on time. The condition of the shop and his combination pompadour-mullet might also have tipped me off. But I'd heard good things, so I threw caution to the wind. Shoes left for resole in Early March. Explicit instruction given as to type of sole needed. Late May I was advised my shoes were ready. When I went to pick them up they had the wrong type soles. After extended debate, I returned the shoes, again, to have the proper soles put on. This occurred in the Loveland store. Late June I was notified my shoes were again ready to be picked up, but I would have to drive to Boulder to retrieve them as they were no longer being sent to the Loveland store. When I arrived to retrieve my shoes, once again, I found they still had the wrong soles on them. The cobbler had done nothing to correct the problem. He was disrespectful, and rude. Didn't care that I was told on more than two occasions the correct soles would be applied. Never again will I do business with company. I would suggest you consider the same action. Extreme-ly expensive, that is. Check on pricing for simple repairs BEFORE someone takes your shoe to the back and puts a zipper pulley on it and 90 seconds later tells you that will be $9.95. No polish, no clean, nothing...a .50 zipper pulley. I found five pulleys at REI for $5 but since I needed another simple repair (which turnaround time was also 90 seconds, and ended up costing $9.95) I thought perhaps I should give my money to a local business. I did tell him this, and he went down on the price, but its still rather extreme. As for the second repair, again, if he'd simply said "I can fix it now, and it will be $9.95" rather than just racing off with the shoe, I'd have had a chance to consider the cost to tie down one metal strap tightener on my secondhand hiking boots. The repair cost me quite nearly as much as the boots themselves. Two stars though as I'm sure they would be competent to do more complicated repairs worth the cost...I just feel ripped off, however. If you are budget conscious or just don't have money to burn, ask for an estimate right away, and don't expect to get one without asking. Update: about 2 weeks and a couple of wears later, the poor quality, weak zipper pull that almost cost $9.95 broke off completely and I was at REI paying for replacement pulls, anyway. Came back to pick it up the next day and the bag was not fixed how it should have been, looked completely different than the original. I had a great experience with Shoe Repair. After my dog so lovingly ate my new leopard print heels, I took them to shoe repair to see if they could be salvaged. The guy said they don't usually do heels but he could replace them for $45. I didn't really want to spend that much on them since the heels weren't that expensive but I did want to wear them again. He said he could make them look like new for $15. I was very happy with that price and left my shoes in his care. I dropped them off on Saturday and he said they'd be ready by Tuesday. Sure enough on Tuesday I got a call that my heels were ready. When I picked them up they look great! I am very happy with the service and that they were able to help me out especially when they don't usually do heels and he charged me a reasonable price. Great service. Went in to get a zipper replaced on a pair of gore-tex boots and they even took the time to match the zipper to the color of the leather on my boot. Was so pleased that i went back in to have them add speed hooks onto another pair of leather boots and again the hardware matched the other hardware on the boot perfectly.
