I took curtains to this place to be hemmed. They seemed nice and helpful at first. When I picked up the curtains and hung them up, one was not hemmed evenly and part of it dragged on the floor. I had the curtains up for one week, max. I took the one curtain back in and they said they would fix it free of charge. When I took the curtain home and hung it up I noticed there were dirt marks at the top, the part that was not hemmed. I called the store and let them know these dirt marks were not on the curtain before I brought it back to them. Whoever answered the phone seemed to deny that this could have happened and offered to pay half of the dry cleaning. In an effort to describe the stains, I said that it seems like that end was on the floor while the other end was being hemmed. In response he yelled and said "why don't you bring the curtain back in and we can drag it on the floor and see if it happens here?". Absolutely horrible customer service and craftsmanship. I will never bring anything to this place again and DO NOT recommend the tailoring services. Do not even bother coming here. read more

I would've been understanding with a simple apology, but the owner immediately got nasty and defensive, shouting "LOOK at all these racks of clothes we still have to get through, we didn't have time for it." Ok...why is that my problem? Can't you just say...sorry? I took my coat back and walked out. A little decency goes a long way - maybe try not yelling at your customers, especially when you're in the wrong? Gross. First and last time at this place. read more

I took three pairs of pants to be altered, and dropped them off several weeks before I needed them for a business trip. I prepaid for the work. When my husband went on the day they were to be ready (which was also on the claim ticket), he was told they were not ready, but would be in 2 hours. He returned, only to be told that they would not be ready until the next day. No phone call to tell us they were not yet ready, and no apology for the original and additional delays; in fact, we were told that they were "doing us a favor" by getting the items done as originally promised. When I went back in the following day to pick up the garments, the owner told me that my husband is a "mean motherf*cker" and that he didn't need my business. When I tried to explain our side of the story, he raised his voice, interrupted me, and turned his back on me. I wish I had read some of the other reviews that discuss similar treatment before going there. read more

Though I've been a loyal customer for many years, I can no longer use or recommend this business. I had a similar experience to the customer who authored the most recent review, so it seems to be a pattern rather than a one-off. The owner rushes you through a fitting and when the work is unsatisfacory, he does not stand behind the work. My interaction with Gokhan was very similar to the last reviewer - he was surly and brusk and turned his back to me rather than continue our conversation. He raised his voice when I calmly asked to resolve an issue and he dismissed me rather than try to work with me. There are many very good tailors in the Boulder area who appreciate their customers, so I strongly suggest using one of them instead of this shop. read more

I have had a long-term relationship with this shop, and generally my experience has been very positive with them. However, last week I went to pick up an item as well as to take in an item that had previously been worked on. When I began to express to Gokhan, one of the owners, that I didn't feel the job was done right the first time, he said I would have to pay the same amount as I originally paid in order for him to re-do the job. I told him that I felt I shouldn't have to pay a second time for the job. To my surprise (he is normally very good natured), he reacted very adversely and strongly -- in front of another customer -- to the idea that the original repair could have been less than ideal. When he told me I owed him what I owed him for the item I was picking up, I asked him to discount that based on my dissatisfaction with the other job. He became even more reactive. I told him that he didn't have to get reactive or take it personally, and that I had every right to register my concern about the quality of the job. He would have nothing of it, refused to take my payment for the new pickup, and told me in so many words that he didn't want to work with me anymore and stormed off to the back of the store. I left the full amount in cash for the second job on the counter and left, bewildered. Upon getting home, I noticed that the pickup job was also not right. (sweatpants drawstring replacement where the length of new drawstring on one side was very noticeably shorter than the other side). Not sure what was up with Gokhan that day, but not a good business move to react like he did and take whatever frustrations he was dealing with out on a customer - in front of another customer. Bad look that day and bad look here now. After being put in such an uncomfortable and unnecessary situation as I was that day, I won't be bringing my business to this shop any longer. read more

I have had multiple items that had to be redone after poor workmanship. Pants have more than once been two different lengths. Items were promised multiple times to be finished only to take weeks longer.They do not have the skills to do more complex work. I wanted to get sleeves hemmed on a jacket. The gentleman. pretty sure he is the owner didn't even look at the jacket and said $46. I vaguely recall him fitting/measuring me for a similar alteration and charging me $25 a couple years ago. This time the price quoted was $46!! He came to $39 when I expressed surprise at the cost. $39 for a simple hem on two sleeves with no buttons? I appreciate there is inflation over 2 years and I understand quality and workmanship come at a price, however, this hem job is not a complicated woman's dress or outfit that. I have been going to Baleil and his son for years. I've NEVER been disappointed. Not only are they excellent tailors they are nice guys who still address me as "ma'am" . Chivalry is not lost on me! They have tailored the following: formal evening dresses (taken in on bust and let out on hips), pants, leather pants and jacket (made a jacket fitted from a more boxy style), suits and made a long skirt into a mini. I also brought my dear grandmother here and have referred a few friends - all have had rave reviews, except one. I'm not sure of the details but I know she was not pleased. I first came here through a recommendation on Styleforum.net -- and have not been disappointed. The head tailor knows his stuff. (I can only speak to his knowledge of men's clothing). He'll listen to your wants, but also make suggestions of his own which you should probably listen to. Quite realistic about what can and should be done. Neither him or his son have ever tried to oversell me -- knowing that it is sometimes better to start over with a new garment than completely deconstruct an existing one at tremendous cost. I've seen the results of major suit alterations done by him (narrowing shoulders and adjusting collars) and have been impressed. He's taken in numerous sport coats for me with attention to how different cuts should fit, whether I'll possible want a sweater or not, etc. Straight, well finished seems. Same on the tailored shirts, and hemmed pants. They've taken the extra minutes to fix a loose button and steam out any jacket oddities for no charge. Prices are reasonable and have always been done on the stated date for me: $39 for taking a waist of a jacket in, $22 for sides+sleeves+darts of on a shirt, $12 for just darts, ~10-15 for a hem. read more

Oh, how I love excellent service, and this family owned business really knows service. They were friendly and helpful from the initial phone call through the pick up. Other places I called hedged when I asked if they could do a slightly faster turn around. One place whined about how busy they were and maybe they could fit me in over the next week. Boulder Custom Tailoring said to come right in and of course they could turn it around quickly. I didn't know much about tailoring but it really made me feel fancy. They explained what my choices were and were fast and enjoyable to work with. I see that other people have said they are pricier. I couldn't ask for a better tailor. They're great at communicating, make sure they're able to meet your expectations on time before taking on the work, and are generally great to work with. I've had small modifications done where I was able to pick the item up a day or two later. I had a tuxedo with sentimental value that was too large completely deconstructed and remade to fit my figure - I had no deadline for this so they did the work over a couple of months, yet the result was fantastic and the price was very reasonable. They were very friendly and had an excellent handle on giving every customer the attention they needed (I had come on my lunch break, so they were very busy at the time). There was a slight snafu where the suit wound up not being ready at the time I was told due to the guy writing down the wrong date on his side of the call tag, but when it happened, he was very apologetic and had it ready that evening. Anyone can make a mistake, but they went above and beyond in making it right, and the suit fits perfectly again. read more

I have been going to Boulder Custom Tailoring for a long time and service and quality are of the utmost importance to me. It's very disappointing to see the extremist review below so I felt it necessary to provide another perspective. Bilal and Gokhan are literally some of the nicest and most professional people I have had the pleasure to do business with. I have recommended them to many of my friends, family, and employees and I've only heard how impressed they were. I haven't received a single complaint based on my recommendations. Additionally, I have had them tailor most of my wardrobe since I'm a size that generally needs adjusted and they have delivered every single time - which is very impressive because I am very discerning and detail oriented when it comes to how I look given my job profession and my appreciation for well fitting clothes. They have been doing professional tailoring for 20 years and it shows. I can't recommend them highly enough for men's and women's tailoring. Concerning the language barrier that may have led to the reviewer's frustration, any comments that were made must have been taken the wrong way due to cultural differences since they are originally from Turkey. Gohkan (Bilal's son) is excellent with English (a bit better than Bilal) and tries to handle most of the customer communication. Both are honest, fair, professional, and genuinely friendly with their customers. And as for knowing their craft, I never have had a more skillful tailor than Bilal and Gokhan and that is compared to much larger cities than Boulder as I have a tailor in every city I've lived in and have traveled a lot in my life. This guy is NOT professional AT ALL! It deserves no stars. I went here to get specific measurements needed for my wedding dress. I didn't know what to expect but I thought a woman would at least be the one taking them and maybe in a back room. He had me standing in the middle of the store in my bra, and at one point asked me to show him where my nipples were for a measurement that was not even needed. During this, a girl came in to pick something up and he was frantic trying to find it and explain to her it wasn't there and to go look through the racks herself. All around extremely unprofessional, and uncomfortable. In the end the dress company informed me that several of the measurements could not possibly be right and that I needed to get them retaken. I went somewhere else and got the correct measurements, and when called to speak with a manager and explain why I felt I should get a refund, the "manager" was the same guy. He was very rude to me about the entire thing and proceeded to tell me I wasted HIS time and that he would not refund me or do anything to make it right.
