I loved working with Jude!!! She does her alteration appointments out of her basement and it's such a cute and cozy place. She is also so kind and fun to talk to during the appointments. My dress was very layered and elaborate, but she was able to alter it to fit both my heels and my flats and she worked really hard to fix some of the areas we were having problems with to ensure that it looked great on my wedding day. She also did a fantastic bustle on the back of my dress that I got a lot of compliments on. She even recorded a video with me to help teach my maid of honor how to do it! She took great care of my dress while she worked on it too and she always made sure we took lots of progress photos during our appointments so I could look at them and get some cute photos in my dress! Judy is a fabulous seamstress! She helped me get the perfect fit in my wedding dress and did some major work to shorten the length while moving the lace to still hang beautifully off the edge. She made the straps more comfortable, and took one of the layers of the train out so only the lace layer was long. Perfect for our beach wedding in Mexico! I had contacted another lady, the 'Wedding Gown Seamstress' in Arvada twice with no response; as the lead advertiser in the area I assumed that she must have been swamped or uninterested and looked elsewhere. What I found instead was a wonderful lady in Broomfield, Judy Drake, to do the alterations on my wedding dress. Not only does Judy have a sweet, accommodating, and thoughtful personality but she did an incredible job on my dress. She accepted my order just 4 weeks before our wedding and returned my gown quickly and in pristine condition. Despite the amount of work my just-cleaned silk dress needed, she kept it spotless and was enthusiastic to take on the project. In addition to working on the side seams to fit, she shortened the lining and put in stunning 11 point French bustle. It had dozens of layers of differing lengths, different materials, a top that was Huge on me a belt that wasn't attached and needed a bustle. She met with me numerous times to get my perfect fit. The top didn't move all night despite dancing and jumping around but she also made sure I could sit and still be comfy. My many layered dress needed some layers removed to lay better then flowed and swished beautifully thanks to her precise skills. And the real kicker...she created a bustle that laid flat and you couldn't see. My sister saw the dress the first time while it was bustled and thought I just chose not to have a train. I found Judy via Yelp, so I'm hoping to help someone else looking for a good seamstress. Judy made several alterations to my mother-of-the-groom dress. She worked around all the beading in the bodice to make it smaller, and she removed the small train to make the dress slim-line. In addition, she added ribbon inside the back and the straps to hold my bra in place so it will not creep and show. It's the little things that count! I liked the fact she did most of the work after the first fitting, and the second fitting helped add the finishing touches. My third fitting was simply to do one last check before taking my dress home. In addition, Judy is pleasant and fun to work with. I liked visiting her in the privacy of her home where she has her studio without other customers around. And, her price was very reasonable. Judy is wonderful! I had first gone to another, larger seamstress company and received a quote that was more than I paid for my actual wedding dress! Feeling less than satisfied with that, I started searching again and found Judy. Her place was in a more convenient location and her quote much more reasonable. I needed a significant amount of work done (bodice fitted, a train removal and shortening of the skirt) and the construction of the dress made all of these things quite a chore. Judy had a great attitude through all 4 or 5 of our fittings and did the work with great professionalism. After I picked up the dress after the final fitting I got it home, tried it on for my mom and realized some of the layers started standing straight out (not a good look). I called Judy back and she got me right in to fix the problem. I took away 1 star just because the final price ended up being a little more than what I was quoted but like I said it was A LOT of work and the final price was still about $100 less than the quote I received from the other seamstress company!
