SeaLevel Hot Yoga's 60-minute class absolutely kicked my ass--in the best way possible. My sister and I tried it for the first time using ClassPass, and those 26 poses humbled us real quick. The instructor, Kim, was fantastic--supportive without being pushy, which was a relief after reading some of the other reviews. As someone who has been practicing Bikram/Hatha yoga for 13 years, I fear that Jesse's 1-star review may be missing the point. The encouragement for disciplined practice, unified movement with the rest of the class, and thoughtful corrections are why I have made massive improvements in just 1-year since returning to Sealevel Yoga. I did a drop-in at a studio in Kirkland while house sitting last week, and after class, the instructor bluntly asked me which studio I've been going to because my practice was "phenomenal." I am now doing things in my practice that I never thought possible when I started doing yoga 13 years ago, let alone last year lol. I've been to a lot of studios and I can confidently say that Sealevel Yoga is the best studio you will find in the greater Seattle area for Bikram/Hatha. Most of my classes have been taught by Lisa and Kim. Their expertise in the practice, coupled with their laser sharp attention to each class member make the experience on par with working with a personal trainer. That said, the other instructors have been fantastic too. I'm actually shocked at how consistently high caliber the teaching quality is across all instructors. That's a rarity at any studio. I can sympathize with anyone's initial frustration regarding Hatha being largely a regimented practice, especially when so many other customer experiences in our world are designed to cater to an individual's preferences. However, as someone who has some pretty whack-a-doodle levels of ADHD, being in an environment where I'm encouraged to remain hyper focused and disciplined for 90-minutes has done wonders for my relationship with my brain and body. Whenever I've felt I've finally "mastered" a position, instructor feedback and applied disciplined always lead me to discovering whole new overlooked elements in a pose, which present plenty of room for improvement. The process has been humbling, but also exciting and genuinely empowering once progress is made. My relatively new focused and disciplined mindset, which has been dramatically strengthened from taking classes at Sealevel Yoga, has carried into other parts of my life as well, and with powerful results. Disclaimer: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the 90min 105F 26/2 Traditional Hot Yoga and that's the main version available here A note on this style of yoga... It definitely feels like the "torture chamber" but after the first few sessions you'll learn the postures better and your familiarity with the sequence will drive better results. You will see noticeable improvements in how you understand your own body and mind. My personal opinion... Other forms of yoga are higher risk, especially when they're not repeated to the point where are you can fully internalize the sequence and postures, causing yogis to be more prone to injury. Typically the traditional classes are supposed to have carpet, but that's kind of gross, and here they have a padded floor that doesn't release odor. Also the space is pretty large, with wide mirrors on at least 3 walls and they offer 6am classes that aren't super crowded. Lastly, the instructors! They are all exceptionally well trained, keep to the rhythm, and understand form. This is not always easy to find in every studio, but it is such a relief. There are other studios that do Bikram but this one is newer and less packed. I've almost always had a spot near a mirror. I've tried nearly every hot yoga studio in King County and I can say this one is at the tippy top, it's such a gem of a place. I wish I could visit more often. read more

This is the first time I went to this studio and I wanted to provide feedback that I hope does not come off as bashing this practice, but in hopes of continuing growth to be more inclusive to all body's capacity. I attended a 26&2 class and stated it was for all levels. These are poses that I enjoy but I have been out of practice for over a year so I wanted to ease back in. I would have appreciated more alternative poses if the pose that was instructed was not accessible. This was my friend and I's first time here and instead of providing a modified pose, the instructor pushed my friends hand to preform the pose which could have been passed her capacity and would have benefitted from an alternative pose. When I asked if there was a modified pose, I was told 'you can just sit there'. Which I understood the sentiment of not pushing yourself and to rest, but I wanted to be part of a sequence in some way. As I can totally see why people had an amazing time being pushed and received what they need from these practices, many bodies don't always move the same and have different capacities. In result, everyone may look different when doing certain moves to accommodate to their body's capacity. So like I said, I hope this is taken as room for growth as it is always important to improve our practice! Some suggestion would include: asking for consent before touching others, provide more modified positions as some may have limitations and provide a visual representation of the positions. Yoga stuck in the 20th century. The instructor was nit picky, calling people out by name over unnecessary adjustments -- not for a safer and more healthy experience, but just so that everyone in the room does the same thing at the same time (the instructor actually said this). In this one class, the instructor told people when it is ok or not ok to drink water, rest, move, not move, etc., and then actually scolded people if they veered from this conformist routine. No f**ing thank you. It was stressful and unsafe, and I will not ever go back. read more

I just took my first class and loved it. The studio was the perfect temp for a good sweat, the teacher (Brian) was awesome and the class had a nice flow to it. Is it tough, this hot yoga? Can anyone walk in and take a 90-minute session in plus-111 degree heat? And is bikram right for me? You know what: no one gives a sh!t. If you're asking all these questions, and those questions are keeping you from starting, that's a pretty damn clear sign you don't want to. One thing you learn in bikram, maybe the most important, is don't push it. I'm floored after each class with these amazing people at Sealevel. I know how hard it is to find talent, and somehow, they grabbed them all. It's fun to try different classes and easy too, as the instructors for the most part rotate (except you, Brian ; ). Sealevel Hot Yoga is the most OG class around, with the most OG teachers around. I love the culture at Sealevel- everyone is so welcoming and accommodating from the second I walk in, to the second I leave. I can tell immediately that the owners take such care and put so much thought into every aspect of the studio. The teachers rock. They take the time to help correct any postures that I am doing incorrectly, and motivate me to do my best. I appreciate the support they give me throughout class, something that lots of other yoga studio's around town don't take the time to do. read more

Upon entry into Sealevel I felt extremely serene, welcome, and ready to sweat. The owners and instructors are extremely personable. They learned my name after only a few times, which is extremely hard to do but greatly appreciated. I have never sweat more, hydrated more, and felt better after a yoga class than I have at Sealevel Hot Yoga. I was incredibly inflexible when I started practicing and I have gained flexibility, and toned strength. Unique and cool vibes follow you from the front desk to the changing room to the yoga room, making the entire studio feel like an escape experience from the world outside. I am forever grateful for Groupon bringing me to Sealevel. When I first tried this yoga I fell in love with it. It was intense, difficult, repetitive and fascinating. I have tried other yoga studios around Seattle and nothing compares. The more I practice, the more improvements I see. Every time I practice, I notice my back hurts less and less. The spine strengthening series is truly magical. This practice truly heals your body and mind. The teachers are there to push you to do your best. Kim and Brian are my ultimate favorite teachers there. They see all and their corrections are very helpful and specific to each individual. I have taken classes with other teachers and they're all amazing too. The owners are awesome. I have never had a bad experience at Sealevel. It gets busy- but that's just because the practice is so amazing. Some days are busier and some are slower. Don't let this (sometimes) crowded space deter you from going to another practice- This is the best one!! Come try it out.. bring your friends, family and anyone you truly care about. A few things I find most valuable about Sealevel and their method: #1) The teaching talent is top-notch. Each instructor follows the same method, but they bring their own character to each class. The past 2 weeks I've taken classes from Kevin, Brian, Eve, and Tian, and all four were phenomenal and very thorough. The teachers also call you by name and tell you how to CORRECT your form mid-posture, which I've found helpful. Week by week I notice myself making improvements and building off of the corrections that I made the previous week. #2) the workout is just plain kickass. It's the highest caloric ROI, most physical bang for your buck, bucket-sweating, muscle-toning, yet mentally-clarifying workout I've ever put myself through. #3) this practice has encouraged me to become healthier outside of the studio. For example, I sweat quite a bit, and early on in my practice, I would get migraines after class, despite having drunk lots of water throughout the day. I've now learned that to avoid the post-class migraine, I need to drink a gallon of water the day before, and the day of class. Eating more vegetables has helped me avoid the headaches too. Avoiding junk food throughout the day helps me ensure I have enough energy to get myself to class in the first place. I also tend to sleep like a rock after a session. This is no cakewalk yoga class, but it's an extremely enriching practice guided by some very talented people that care about their community. read more

Before I get into this review, quick notice to those who are new to hot yoga, particularly Bikram: this is the more intense, push-yourself side of the yoga spectrum, as opposed to the meditation/relaxation side. This is true regardless of where you go :) I bought the 10-class Groupon and was pleasantly surprised (and very sad to use my last one this weekend). I am relatively new to yoga and wasn't expecting each class to be the same, but it actually works in your favor because you build on what you learned from each class, so it's as though no two classes are the same. I've been weighlifting seriously for the last four years, but this is a completely different kind of strength building. A lot of the on-again-off-again pains and aches that I've had with my knees and back are practically gone because this series is so much about building core strength. Instructors: FANTASTIC. Each instructor has slightly different cues/perspectives that they bring, which is great to see. I particularly liked Andrea, Lisa, and Brian's styles. They are very accommodating of all experience levels. Great instruction, especially around taking intentional rest (Shavasana). My only gripe is that sometimes students set up in awkward places that make it difficult to find a spot (where you could see the mirror), and I wish the instructors would have people move around a little when that happens. Other than that, the instructors are very aware of the mood of the room. Class sizes: the 6pm classes are much busier than 8pm, so get there 10 minutes early to stake out a good spot. Sunday mornings are the least busy. I have not had an issue with classes being too packed, as instructors are very good about reminding their class to focus on themselves and not let their eyes wander. Falling is totally OK :) Atmosphere: I never felt judged by the instructors or people in the class. You are encouraged to lay down and rest if you need, and grab water when you want. I had classes with the majority of the instructors, and they were all very supportive and accommodating. Showers: There are 1 or 2 showers. Parking: There is free street parking everywhere in Fremont, and I never had an issue finding somewhere to park. read more

This is my favorite Bikram studio in Seattle. To start, Bikram is tough, and it's not for everyone. Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into! Sleek, beautiful studio. Changing is kind of small but functional. Only 2 shower stalls, but other students usually shower quickly so wait is never long. They have hair dryers and a large mirror area with a shelf if you need to do make-up/get ready for work. I've had Brian and Andrea as instructors. Both are great, offer lots of verbal adjustments. Sometimes Bikram instructors tend to monologue without actually paying attention to what is going on during class, but both these instructors have been very present throughout class. Brian even filled my water bottle up for me and told me to go back to my mat when he saw me get up, super cool. I don't care what the Bikram bible says, no hot yoga studio should have carpet, ever. This place has hard floors so it never smells like week-old sweat the way some other Bikram studios smell. Hot room is pretty big. I usually go to 4pm so classes are never too full, but I bet the 6pm gets pretty crowded so I'd get to class early. I would leave Class Pass and sign up for a monthly membership if they offered a student special. read more

It's almost like he paused so much, you'd think he doesn't know what posture is next. Love the new place! Admittedly I was intimidated by starting Bikram again (after a 5 year hiatus), but I'm so glad I made the effort to finally use my Groupon just before the expiration date. At first I didn't realize at first that this studio was formerly the old 'Bikram Seattle' studio (formerly by Fremont brewing). The new space is much nicer and quieter; plus the option to do 60 minute class (instead of 90 mins) is appealing. After practicing many types of yoga over the years, this style is my body's current favourite (I'm in my 40th decade). No other form has been able to strengthen my previous knee and back injuries from years of cycling, running and hiking/bouldering. Lorenzo has a nice style and rhythm which makes me feel that i'm taking care of my body well. The new studio is beautiful and clean. There are showers, hair dryers, big mirrors and lockers for your getting back together needs. read more

Yoga instructors are great and classes are mostly good. But as the studio has gained popularity, it gets super crowded. The studio not only gets stuffy, but also uncomfortable with people almost breathing on each other. One can hardly see oneself in the mirror, which is important for concentration in the poses. Also, more often that not, you will hit your neighbor at some point. I think, the studio needs to either have more classes at popular hours or limit the number of students in each class (say first 25). The studio is not meant to hold 40 people and squeezing in 40 people really spoils the experience for everyone. read more

After the first course I signed up for another with the same instructor (unfortunately don't remember names), but there was a sub on my second course. He scolded (!) me for drinking water at an apparently not-approved time. If I'm paying to be here, I will drink water at my convenience.
