I admire this studio's integrity to its method of practice - they seem to pride themselves on a stringent adherence to the Baptiste method of yoga. To them, this apparently means one movement per breath, though my experience in their power vinyasa class felt more like three movements per breath. I could hardly keep up! I shared my perspective with the front desk after the class when I had to decide between paying for a $25 drop in v. a $40 30-day trial period, and was met basically with "that's how it's supposed to be", in so many words. I understand that these classes are taught in this method by design, but as a business-minded person, I couldn't help but think that they could draw 2-3x more people per each class if they adapted a bit to the status quo of the Seattle yoga scene. With a location as prime as this one, don't you want to make more money by practicing yoga that (more) people will actually enjoy? SLU doesn't seem like the place for a stronghold of a fairly niche method of yoga... It seems like people probably go here just because there isn't a better option so close to work. The frantic pace of class, mixed with the hot-enough-to-perspire-but-not-hot-enough-to-SWEAT classroom temp, the unpleasant locker room experience (so crowded!), and the overpriced package options made this a two star experience for me. read more

I always try to take a class at Be Luminous whenever I'm in the Seattle area. It's probably my favorite studio in the city. Not only is it within walking distance from a lot of the hotels in the area, they have a great staff and a variety of challenging classes to to choose from throughout the week. I wasn't quite sure what Baptiste style was when I first joined, but if you're into Vinyasa, it's pretty much like that, but a little stronger and hot. Depending on when you go, the classes can be super packed. They do mark spots on the floor with tape to make sure that they are maximizing the space and allowing as many students as possible to practice at any given time. I think that's smart - I've been to a lot of studios where they just let everyone do their thing and it becomes mass chaos, and mats are pretty much positioned anywhere and everywhere. I've taken mostly the Hour of Power and Power Flow classes. The Hour of Power is only 60-mins, but it's pretty intense. Besides it being a warm studio, you'll be sweating and working hard. Just remember to breathe, drink water when you need it and probably bring an absorbent mat towel to soak up all your hard efforts. For a little more, the Power Flow is great because it's an hour and a half. Scott Francis is the instructor that I've taken the most while visiting and he's great. His voice is really calming and he puts together some nice flows to make sure you're getting the most out of the high intensity class. Lockers are complimentary and electronic. As you place your belongings inside, you choose your own unique code to retrieve your stuff so you don't have to hassle with a key. The men's room has three showers with some nice smelling stuff to make sure you don't leave the studio a big sweaty mess. Mat rentals and towel rentals are available for a fee. A big plus is that they are next door to a Whole Foods, so you can grab juice before or after your class to help feed your body with fresh nutrients! I highly recommend! read more

I've been going to Be Luminous for a almost a month now, I took advantage of the new student deal they had going on where you get 1 month unlimited for $40 I have been talking about starting yoga for months and I finally just did it, and I am so glad I found this studio because as someone who knows nothing about yoga this was the best place to experience and learn. I will definitely be signing up for the 3 month deal at the end because I really like the instructors and how warm everybody is at the studio. I love Liz's slow flow class, and Nicole's Restorative class. I haven't tried hot yoga yet, I will eventually but I really want to learn the poses and get comfortable first. I'm not one who likes to jump into things because of trend. LOL but eventually at some point I'll be in the hot yoga class. :) Love this studio! read more

I enjoyed the slow flow, restorative, meditation class. It presents all level practitioners with necessary challenges. The facilities are clean, locker rooms are small but the lockers a very convenient You must arrive early (reservations are required for class). They have a nice online reservation system that tracks your class passes and enables you to keep your schedule of classes in one place. They offer a number of options for passes including an annual and six month membership. read more

One of my favorite yoga classes! It's convenient as it's right next to Whole Foods so you can buy your groceries after class. Also free parking for 90 minutes! Teachers are great - I always get a good sweat from this. Some of them even correct your form which I like. Makes me get better. The changing room is really tiny and gets crowded around the lockers. Looks a little outdated - would recommend they update it if they can. read more

Atmos: Clean, "new" feeling, simple, relaxing, light touch decor. Instructor: Calm, strong, knowledgeable, friendly, warm. Slow Flow Class: Lovely. This is a great combination of meditative (taking your time) and strength building (holding the pose for longer than normal). This class really gives you a chance to settle into the pose and breathe deeply before moving on. But it's also a challenge since you're holding them a little longer than normal. Overall Experience: This is one of the best studios I've been to in the 1 mile parameter of my home. It's not too religious but not too clinical/commercial - it's just right and somewhere in the middle. There is large amounts of natural light and space, but also dim and relaxing. This is one of my favorites in Seattle. ALL of the instructors are great. Very adept at sequencing/cuing the Baptiste style while also weaving in educational/inspiring commentary to their teaching. The group of practitioners is a good mix with a great following. It's always nice to practice amongst a group of dedicated yogis and you can definitely feel the sense of community. People are friendly and introduce themselves which sadly isn't always typical in the yoga scene. The amenities are also great - lockers and showers with shampoo/cond/soap provided. There are a large number of classes offered so there's always something to fit your schedule. read more

A Baptiste yoga studio right above Whole Foods? That's how you know it's meant to be! New city, new yoga place. And as a Baptiste studio near Whole Foods and offering a plentiful number of classes and a great first timer deal, Be Luminous was first on my list. And I was not disappointed. Studio: To begin with, the place is beautiful! Complimentary lockers and showers. Employee/Teachers: Both the woman at the desk and the teacher were pretty friendly. This instructor, specifically, seemed to teach a more creative approach to the style. It was a good workout, at a balmy 90 degrees. She also asked for suggestions at the beginning of the class tailoring poses to what people asked. My only gripe is that you can very clearly hear the teacher in the next studio and the room feels a tiny bit crowded. I really like my space when doing yoga. I need to buy a mat to use here. I rented one for $2. But, it was a good quality mat! The only reason it doesn't get the fifth star is because no where can beat my favorite Miami Baptiste studio, Bala Vinyasa. Coincidentally enough, the teacher's class I took today trained with Bala's owner. However, nowhere can compare to the atmosphere BV creates, but Be Luminous came pretty darn close! read more

Be Luminous is new yoga center in South Lake Union at the 2200 Westlake building above Whole Foods. The atmosphere is beautifully designed and the classes are superb and challenging! The studio is extremely spacious with locker rooms and showers, a clothing boutique and tea room. Offering mostly Power Vinyasa classes (but also a couple other styles), space is heated but not uncomfortable. I felt strong, exhilarated, inspired in my practice and peacefully centered. I cannot wait to go back! If you like to purify your body through the flow, breath and sweat, this is the place for you. read more

I wanted to cancel my online membership before it renewed in early February. Even though I signed up online there is no way to cancel or remove my credit card info online - the instructions were to email the studio. I have emailed the studio 5 times in 3 weeks with no response. I have left two voicemails with no response. Finally I followed the option left on their voicemail greeting to send a text to a cell phone with a CA area code. I did that this evening. I don't do business with businesses like this and my next step is to file a dispute with my credit card company tomorrow. I will also contact the BBB. Nobody should have to spend this much time to cancel a month to month membership. And there should be a way to delete my credit card info from their system. If they put as much effort into maintaining website security as they do customer service I am in big trouble. Not happy at all. read more

If you like Baptiste style power vinyasa yoga (with other class variations like Prenatal and intro series courses thrown in), upscale decor and amenities, validated parking, and having access to a slate of great instructors (like Scott, Michel, Sean, Nicole, to name just a few), Be Luminous might be your perfect studio. Though it isn't one of my two regular home studios, I've been practicing frequently at Be Luminous this month since their intro offer is thirty days unlimited yoga for $40; I'm making the most of it! The studio culture is friendly; it's the only place I've practiced where instructors regularly ask students to briefly say hello to their neighbors, or might go around the room with quick introductions as recently happened in both Anne and Nicole's classes. And every time I've chatted briefly with an instructor post-class, they've always been sure to ask my name (something that, I would say, is surprisingly atypical in many Seattle studios). Though it feels a bit like a see-and-be-seen space, especially in some of the evening classes full of SLU workers, clearly there's an effort to make it welcoming nonetheless. The space is lovely; you enter into a rather large area with yoga merchandise of all sorts, and behind that counter is a yoga lounge with a circular couch, a sink for water (and tea!), and an extensive yoga library you can browse. The locker rooms are exquisite, full of modern touches like dual-flush toilets and hands-free trash bins, plus a cool locker system where you input your own code to secure your locker. I've never had a problem finding a free locker even on a busy night. Plus, there are three nice and spacious showers stocked with Aveda products (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash). The studios (there are two, though the divider between the rooms can be removed to create one large space) are what I'd call heated as opposed to hot; temps seem to hover in the mid 80s to low 90s. Windows along the northern walls capture a great deal of light, and curtains serve to sufficiently darken the room if need be for meditation. They aren't intimate spaces so I don't derive energy from them in the same way I do at smaller studios (my preference), but for those who don't like being crowded, you probably won't be! If you prefer to take classes that are right at your level, Be Luminous does note suggested levels on the schedule (though of course that doesn't restrict who can take the class!). Parking is validated for two and a half hours in the garage beneath, so it's convenient to get here. And despite how fancy the studio is, the class pricing and packages are fairly in line with most others in Seattle. There's also child care for one of the morning classes a couple of times a week, and a community class on Wednesdays at 4 where you can take from teachers who might be newer or not on the regular schedule (go find Anne!). All good options, which makes Be Luminous a nice part of the Seattle yoga community and a place I'm enjoying for the rest of the month. read more

What a beautiful facility Be Luminous Yoga has put together. My review comes from an Ayurvedic training and my rating is based on the fact that hot yoga is not for all body types. This "gym" power environment works for kapha, heavy slow body types, and can be quite aggravating for many. This "gym" has a very competitive, aggressive environment. Not what you get from traditional yoga. There is very little grounding going on with the practice. If you seek a grounding, nurturing yoga experience, this trendy John Baptiste branded yoga is not for you. The changing area for women is too small for the numbers of hyperactive individuals they pack into their classes. Due to the heat and over perspiration, a shower is rather necessary, but expect a long wait. They did, however, take my emailed request to participate in the Masaru Emoto water blessing for the Fukushima nuclear plant, and that was considerate of them. read more

Oh man. It's a beautiful, clean studio. The incense is a nice touch. It feels spa-like. But the instructors are second-rate and and none of the classes are the right pace. It's such a bummer, because the ambiance is perfect and the location is super convenient. But--after taking 2 classes here--I won't be back again. The slow flow class is just so, so slow. It's more like a meditation class with a few poses and postures here and there. I almost fell asleep a few times. It's not much of a work-out and, because the lights are off, it's hard to self-correct. And the power flow class is just too, too fast! Man. I like a challenge, but this was just stupid. It was so fast that the poses weren't held long enough to feel the effects of them. For a newbie, it was almost impossible to keep up. The instructor wasn't much help, either. She just stood at the front of the room and called out poses. And she called out a lot of them in Sanskrit. After I looked around to figure out what was going on, the pose was over and she was calling out something else. She demonstrated nothing for almost a whole hour and, when she did demonstrated a single pose, she asked another student to do it for her. I had no confidence in the instructor's knowledge and she just wasn't in touch with the how the class was moving or feeling. I could feel the frustration around me when she called out downward-facing dog for the, no joke, 30th time. Geesh! Enough with the downward-facing dog! The "heated" room also wasn't hot enough. Just a miss all around. I got up and left with 30 minutes to go because it just felt like a waste of time. Sweatbox in Cap Hill, despite being bare-bones, is worlds better than Be Luminous with all its luxuries. Pass. read more

I wanted to wait until after my second session to write a review. I look forward to updating this one as I experience how each instructor is unique in their format for classes. My first Slow Flow class on April 10th at noon was AWESOME. It was the first time I've done class yoga and I didn't feel an ounce of intimidation from seeing all of the yogi's that filled the room. It was inviting, calm, restorative, challenging and I appreciated the modifications that were offered. It gave me a healthy sweat and modivation to keep at it to become more flexible. The studio is beautiful and serene; such a nice escape from the busy city around it. There are lockers you don't need a lock for and an abundance of yoga friendly clothing and gear (as well as books!) to buy. The second Slow Flow on April 19th at 4:30 was a totally different experience! But one that still kept me engaged and challenged! We started off with some core work that moved into the familiar yoga poses. I didn't break a sweat, but I felt my alignment got better. I absolutely LOVED how the instructor physically helped me do the poses right. I thought it was genius how she rubbed her hands together, creating a sound that let us know she was about to help. I can't wait to experience more of the instructors and eventually move onto harder classes. **********Update********** Just tried their Power Flow 1-2: be ready to sweat like crazy and go through vinyasa poses at a faster pace. I loved the variety of different poses I attempted for the first time and felt challenged the entire duration. The instructor was fabulous, encouraging and even helped me perform a stretch. I'd recommend this to those who have done Slow Flow for a while and need a class that challenges then more. read more

I've started trying different yoga studios to truly find the one I like the most. I visited Be Luminous Yoga on a Monday for a night class. I was greeted by two friendly faces at the front desk - one of whom would end up being my yoga instructor for the night. I mentioned that I was new, and wanted to try out the new member special ($40/1 mo unlimited - AMAZING deal). They quickly got me signed in, and I got a mini tour of the studio. The studio has locker rooms with free lockers (with electronic locks), showers. There's also water you can fill your bottle up with. I also noticed that some people keep their mats here - so there is some sort of mat storage. There is a nice sitting area for if you come to the class early and there's still a class in the studio. There is only one yoga studio, but there are classes almost all day. I've only been to the Power Yoga classes (at varying levels), and each instructor is different, but in a good way. It's nice getting a different yoga workout every time I come, so I'm always finding my strengths and weaknesses through different sessions. Depending on the instructor, there may or may not be music or incense (I noticed reviews commenting on too much or lack of these). The instructors have been very kind and helpful with my practice, and I've been able to speak to them outside of class. Since I go to night classes, I prefer places I can drive to. There is parking here, and there's free 2 hour validation (stamp at the front desk, so you can validate yourself). The parking is in a garage shared with Whole Foods, and the yoga studio is on the main level (it was a bit confusing for me at first). After my first class, I received an email with some cool offers- which are valid until the end of my new member month- my favorite being: $78/next one month unlimited (orig $144) and 15% off 6 mo or annual membership. Both of these are great deals even if you go only once a week. Though I still want to try out more yoga studios in the area, I'll probably get one of those offers in the mean time :) read more

Be luminous was my entree point to yoga. I've long considered it inappropriate for a guy as uncoordinated as me (and apathetic about the spiritual side of yoga). I've been a member now for 3 months, which has taken me from complete stooge to a relatively decent yogi. I found the evening classes too late, and have fallen into a routine of doing the lunchtime hour of power. Rotating teacher, pretty intense, extremely rewarding. I have done yoga elsewhere in Seattle, but this was the only studio that felt clean, welcoming of beginner dolts like me, and had showers that allowed you to go back to work after a class. Only downside is that I can't stop memberships when I'm out of town (limit to 10 days for a 6 month pass)...but I still get my moneys worth and a great workout. read more

Be Luminous is like that friend you always want to hang out with because you know you'll have a good time. This place is great on a lot of levels: It's a good, solid workout; I've never had a bad instructor. I sweat and am challenged every time. All instructors have good, approachable style and flow. Everyone is super nice and friendly. It's power vinyasa but the place isn't overheated. The studio is spotless, as are the changing rooms and showers, which are also fully stocked with Aveda products! And if you work or live in South Lake Union, it's super convenient and parking under Whole Foods is free with validation. My only slight complaint is that the instructors can become a little formulaic after awhile but I just completed 40 straight days of yoga, so my perceptions of repetitiveness might be a little warped. Highly recommend Be Luminous for Seattle yogi's! This place is zen and rejuvenating. I tried the Vinsaya 2 class this evening with Christina and I never had sweat so much in my life! The room is heated but not too hot (like hot yoga) and they burn incense with soft empowering yoga music in the background. The routine was easy to follow although I have to practice some intricate moves amongst the peers in the room. I've never done yoga where I felt like I had walked out of a steam room with my yoga clothes on. The class was nicely paced, not too slow or too fast and I really liked how at ease everyone was especially the instructor. It wasn't too descriptive or elaborate so I could feel centered during the session. I'd like all yoga instructors to be like her! I especially enjoyed the herbal tea and aveda products. It added a nice spa like environment. Bonus stars for super fluffy soft towels (but it's $2 to rent one) I think yoga mats are also $2 to rent. Overall, the best yoga class I've ever taken! read more

I do love the studio space and the quality of instructors. I love that the parking is validated for 2.5 hours and I love the intimate feeling I receive upon entry. The receptionists were all kind and helpful, and didn't make me feel bad on the first day about running late. Very impressive! I love the way the boutique is set up along the perimeter of the entrance, so it doesn't look cluttered. You do not feel overwhelmed by retail. This entire place is clean and well-maintained (even since I've last seen it 4 years ago). I love the wide range of class times that are available - I could definitely find a classtime every day to practice. This is my dream come true! Now we all know how hard we all work in yoga. The Savasana is the best part. Upon waking up the body, I would call it ideal to leisurely roll up my mat and float through a quick shower, to effortlessly fly home on the yoga high. However, I couldn't get this experience here....I just wish there were more space/lockers/vanities in the womens' restroom. It was a nuisance to squirm down the narrow hallway, into a tiny space where I couldn't find a single spot to stand, wiggling between those just arriving, changing clothes, showering, leaving, etc. It was too chaotic of an ending to my yoga session. I would be back but this just can't be the regular spot for me....I need less traffic in such a confined space, or more space for maneuvering. I don't usually get claustrophobic but it happened here. The hustle bustle and squirming were too much. With the pros and cons, I do love the quality instructors, kind receptionists, clean facilities, and validated parking. I will still make it here when I need the later evening sessions. read more

I had one of the best classes in all of my recent 2 years here- it was a project class- 90 minute power by Tina Templeton! I loved it. Her expertise and well-worded cues and reminders were right-on! She worked us! I have a little difficulty with one thing or another which can sometimes 'scare' yoga teachers or make them think i can't do certain poses. She did not make this judgment and encouraged me when I had to modify and she KNEW when I was able to do a full bridge with a tiny support.. and she read my face and body and knew I could do a second one. You don't always get such excellent instruction in packed classes, but once you get to have this .. I want more. i am going to try their studio out some time. it's nice. I can figure out the downtown traffic and find a scheduel with those 90 mnute classes which works for me. namaste-on! read more

I love this studio!! I travel for work and always enjoy coming to Seattle to practice at Be Luminous. I appreciate the locker/shower facility - it may be crowded but it is clean and their lockers have combo locks installed. I've been to several classes, mostly vinyasa flow/power, but really like the variety of classes they offer. The instructors very open and set a great tone for the classes. I'm a big fan of this yoga studio because they offer the best value for your time. The power classes are fast paced, challenging, and I can genuinely feel myself getting stronger after each one. You really feel like you've accomplished something after a class at Be Luminous, both mentally and physically. You know that feeling that you get after you reach the top of a mountain after a long hike? Basically the same feeling. The only thing I'm not a fan of is that sometimes the teachers will ask you to converse with the other students in the room. I'm not a huge fan of this. Some of the students there are WAY crazy and I would rather just do my own thing. As an example, this one "yoga betch" saw me messing around on my phone today before class started and yelled out "They don't allow cell phones in here, it's a sacred space!". Seriously? SERIOUSLY? This is Seattle, cell phones are allowed EVERYWHERE. Anyway, go here. It's great. read more

I did the local pass 20 bucks for unlimited classes for 10 days. Which is pretty awesome considering most yoga classes are at least a 15.00 dollar drop in fee. The space: its purdy in there. Nice floors and bathrooms ( women bathroom rather small and crowded though). They have free filter water and tea ( although my friend thought the tea tasted like tofu water.. i kinda like the funky tea). The classes and over all experience: I had never done yoga in a heated room before the room was about 80-90 degrees. I sweat-ed like a mo-foe. But i didn't feel like i was deeping my practice at all. The atmosphere didn't feel like a zen yoga studio but more like a "gym". Competitive atmosphere people trying to do advanced poses that there bodies were obviously not ready for. The teachers are nice but don't give corrections and they kinda wonder about the room spouting instructions not demonstrating very much. Then worst of all they put on this odd music half way through to get you "pumped" for the next sequence seemed cheesy. I felt like i was sweating but not growing in my practice at all. I took the unlimited ofter to really go for the gusto.. learn as much as i could take from different teachers. But really i just left sweaty and not feeling like i learned anything new. Also i really enjoy centering myself before class starts and most of the classes just jump right into downward dog. I guess i am a sucker for practices that start with a little setting an attention for the practice with deep breathing and small movements.. before the big move the body stuff.. but that's just me. Also there was just a lack of personal feel to the classes. Also one of my favorite parts of yoga is the end. Corpse pose where you get to do nothing after your hard work. But i was just a sweaty hot mess at this point, and i just felt gross laying there in my sweat, also they don't turn off the lights all the way, they just do this half dimming and its a really awkward lighting. Like the lanterns are off but the big bulb lights are still on. So if you get stuck under a bulb light it shines in your eyes a little not very relaxing. To boot. Turns out heated yoga rooms are not for me. Seeing is how i developed a heat rash.. yes.. i know gross. My poor hot body couldn't take it.. i got this rash all over my body along with all over body fatigue. So much in fact i couldn't complete my 10 day pass because i had to allow my body to heal. If your into " gym like setting" competitive yoga in a hot room with free funky tea water, with a boom in sound track.. this is the place for you. I won't be back. I was totally jonesing for a yoga class on a recent visit to Seattle and while I could choose from a number of studios I chose this one because it was right around the corner from the friend I was staying with. I hadn't taken a Baptiste style (vinyasa flow done in a warm - not hot - room) yoga class in nearly 3 1/2 years but since I do yoga regularly I figured I'd be fine. They let me rent a mat AND a yogi toes, which is highly recommended for these classes. Scott is a great teacher and the Level 1-2 class was challenging but not overwhelming. I felt amazing afterwards though I'm sure it was partly because I sweated out toxins from the last 3 days of drinking wine. The studio itself is a really nice space with a locker room and showers, and I loved the nice touch of fruit/tea in the lounge for a post-class snack. If that's not enough you can always pop into Whole Foods down the hill afterwards if you need more water (which you probably do). read more

Warm and welcoming A heated yoga studio 80-90 degrees in a modern and nicely kept facility. This isn't bikram yoga but power vinyasa with a heated room. Nice on those cold winter days to come to a warm room and feel your body move a little bit longer and farther. I tried the Intro series and did 8 classes for 4 weeks. I enjoyed having the co-teachers who were also the co-owners. Patient, centered, and calm people who made my introduction to yoga a good one. One drawback is that the locker room is tiny. I had to climb over people just to get my stuff into a locker. I gave up on entering farther then the front door so brought everything else to the studio. read more

I'm visiting from out of town, and decided to try this studio as well. I normally attend and practice Baptiste power yoga, so of course I was excited to go to a Baptiste affiliated studio. The studio is well decorated and I love the set up. Everyone was really awesome and even recognized my girlfriend (who took one class there months ago). Loved the temperature of the room; it wasn't too hot. The class itself was great, perfect flow for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students. I wished I lived closer so I could take more classes regularly. read more

Be Luminous is in a lovely setting, and the locker rooms are nice. I've been there for one unheated workshop with Liz Doyle, and one hour of power 85 degree (noon class) with Tina Templeman. I have to admit, I think that heated yoga just isn't for me. I sweat my rear end off, but didn't feel like I gained much in flexibility and certainly lost stamina in the heat. After a while I was using my yoga pants to wipe my dripping nose in certain poses, and just generally sliding around on my mat. Plus, after a big class like my noon one, beware that you will have to wait for the showers! It is hard to fit in an extra 20-30 minutes after class just getting ready to leave :) The workshop with Liz Doyle, while a bit beyond my strength abilities at the time (it was an inversion workshop) was absolutely lovely. I feel like I learned A TON from her. I did end up going whole hog and buying a 10-class (6 months) card, so I will be trying weekend and evening yoga, and perhaps even another noon class if I feel up to it! read more

Thanks to my bear-y awesome BFF who recently moved away to Vancouver, I got the intro-series + a really cool purple yoga mat gifted to me for my birthday this year. Now, I was so nervous - because I'm not the most patient of people nor the most limber... and I really really do not enjoy being in hot drippy sweaty rooms with strangers... so the bear-y awesome BFF went with me to my first class. (I think he's taken about 20 of these intro classes because he loves them that much). Anyways, i've taken 4 of the 8 classes now and I can honestly say, I really enjoy yoga so far. The facilities are very welcoming and clean. They have lockers and mugs of refreshments for you to drink. One of the days I went it was very hot outside, so they had slices of watermelon waiting for us when we got out of class. Michel teaches the intro classes on M and W at 715pm (715-845PM). 1) those class times are so much more convenient for us that work during the day. 2) Michel is awesome - patient, soothing, easy-to-listen to, forgiving, ... and oh my gosh so limber. She literally demonstrates muscle by muscle every pose - from all different angles. I cannot express how much I've enjoyed my first series of yoga classes - and this instructor had made a huge difference to me. Classes are actually mostly male (say 65-75%) - from my limited experience. I thought that was surprising. I like how the class has helped me breathe more air - and more effectively. This yoga studio is amazing and caters to different needs. If you do the hour of power, it's an hour of intense sweating (my favorite is Scott's class). If you want a more meditative class, then it has to be the ones that are 1 and a half hour. The only thing I can complain about this yoga studio is that sometimes in class there are partner exercises, which I dislike. I don't really want to talk to anyone during yoga, anti-social much. Also, sometimes I dislike having to introduce myself (some instructors will ask you to share something about yourself before class or talk to the person next to you). It's really annoying. Other than that, it is a great place for yoga. My favorite aspects about it are the fact that they use Aveda products in the bathroom (which also happens to be very, very clean). The lockers have codes! They also serve two choices of tea, some days there will be the 'mood lifter' with St. Johns Worts in it. AWESOME! read more

I'm new to town and this quickly became my go-to yoga studio in SLU!! I had a voucher (provided by my building in my welcome bag) which allowed me 1 free class and 1 month of unlimited yoga for a discounted rate. Within the first week I knew Be Luminous would change my workout routine here in Seattle. All of the teachers have their own unique style but the (hot) classes follow a routine allowing you to really focus on improving certain poses and knowing what's coming next so you can concentrate better. They encourage all students to work at their own level with modifications and reiterate that "there is no winning at yoga" - I LOVE that!! The studio is clean and has everything you need! Glad to see good reviews. It may be just an isolated event, but I didn't find the owner friendly the first time I met him. I haven't ran into him since. Could it be the time of the day? I will try to come back at least once, however. I think that yoga should make your heart feel lighter regardless of the facility. It starts with the teachers and with the yoga community we practice with. I've been a yoga practioner for many years and have practiced at Samadhi and 8 LImbs Yoga Centers. They are not fancy facility, but oh my, the teachers 'practice and live' yoga based on their actions and words, from inside out. Amazing! I'm reminded with 'I am perfect, just the way I am. I was dragged to hot yoga by a coworker and instantly hooked. I am claustrophobic and hate being hot, but Beluminous is the perfect place for someone like me. The studio is large with tall ceilings and the room gets to 85-90 degrees, it never feels uncomfortable. But the best part about this place are the instructors, Carley, Nicole, and Chelle are amazing! The absolute best! My body has changed since going and I always feel amazing afterwards. I moved up north since going to beluminous and continue to drive an extra 20 minutes to do yoga there. I love it so much! read more

3.5 years ago I moved to Los Angeles from Seattle. There are more yoga studios then Starbucks in the LA beach communities, and I have to say that no studio down there quite compares to the awesomeness of the classes & vibe at Be Luminous Yoga. It truly is a Sweet Sweaty & Spiritual Sanctuary! 5 stars all the way. I can't wait to come back for my next Seattle visit so I can practice here more (or better, yet, can you open a studio JUST like yours in LA?) :-) read more

Things I liked about Be Luminous Yoga: the studios are very clean, there's a great variety of heated and non-heated classes, the heated classes never stuffy (which I find is so common in hot yoga, I'm very impressed!), the showers are well stocked, the lockers themselves have the most convenient locker system, the zen space in the back is well stocked with great books, the product they sell is adorable... all in all, a great studio. I really wanted to fall in love with it. However, I've taken two different classes here now, and both times, I just... wasn't really feeling it. The slow flow class was almost too cold - perhaps I ended up under an air vent? I'm not sure. But I didn't feel entirely comfortable in it. It was also silent, which I found a little unnerving. While I liked that instructor, having done yoga before I thought - perhaps I just need a more challenging class? So I took the Power Flow Lvl 1-2 class. This class was heated, which was a nice challenge. I liked the flow, but this class was now too fast - I didn't feel like I held any of my poses, and I didn't feel like I got enough feedback on my technique. While I'm confident the instructor knew what she was doing, I felt like she could have critiqued us more, and could have done more to show us what to do - she simply walked around the class. The class was again silent, except the occasional pop song that she would turn on - but after the song was over, it didn't always continue and it would go silent again. In short, this is not my studio. While I'm sure it is a great fit for other people (in fact, I KNOW it's great for other people based off not just these reviews but the sheer number of people that showed up in both classes) - it just wasn't for me. I may return if a friend invites me again, but likely will be checking out other studios in the area to find my personal go to studio. read more
