Dropped in at the Dryp Yoga when I was visiting Seattle. I booked the Flow Vinyasa yoga classes through ClassPass. The check in process was pretty smooth and quick. Let me start with the good aspects of the studio: the studio is huge with the immersive visuals on the LED screen and calming music that totally elevates your experience. Once the class begins, the whole vibe turns zen and super relaxing. I went for three classes conducted between Sarah and Zara. The one with Sarah was more focused on the mind and soul, taught one of the yamas: Aparigraha. Guess I really needed that to unwind from busy work day. The class with Zara was more focused on the intensity and stretching. Every instructor has their unique style. I would have loved to continue my yoga journey with DRYP and this is what I've been missing about yoga in comparison to studios in Chicago. Reasons I'm chopping off one star: 1. They tend to overbook the class in my opinion. For the first class it took me a couple of mins to find the studio. By the time I entered the class, almost every spot was full. I found a space near the door towards the very back of the studio. 2. Since I was only visiting Seattle, I didn't have my own mat so i had to rent it. They charged me $3.30 which is fine, but most studios don't charge and give complimentary mats. Apart from these reasons, everything else is pretty bang on; focusing on spiritual aspect of yoga. I'll go again whenever I visit Seattle next!

Dryp is located in the upper plaza of Whole Foods on Westlake, and there's free parking there if you're lucky! After taking a hiatus from hot yoga, I decided to give Dryp a try and buy their new student special - 2 weeks unlimited for $40! I went to a total of 6 classes, varying from Vinyasa to restorative to sculpt and flow. The space is fairly large, has a wall of mirrors, and a giant LED screen with different visuals playing throughout class. All of the instructors I've worked with are very personable but tough. These classes are not for the weak - this room is HOT!!! There are not locks on the lockers in the dressing room, which knocks a star off for me. Otherwise locker room is fairly small but clean. They also host cute events for their members, like movie nights and other inclusive activities.

I attended their first immersive space yoga session and it was definitely the most Seattle yoga vibe ever--a very unique experience from someone who goes to yin and restorative regularly. They have a huge projector screen w space visuals and headphones w space vibe music to drop into transcending --at least as much as you can sober. Oh, it's also heated which was perfect for this class. Not too hot. Couple of feedbacks: there was some sound cutting out on the headphones but I'm sure this will ease over time since this was a first class. Second the restorative class should be 90 mins. Most places are for this type of class. It allows you to meditate more and get into stretches longer and deeper. The instructor did great w verbal explanations of poses and this is a rare skill. So many classes expect you to know all the traditional names or are confusing w the actual movement but I didn't have that struggle here. Some of the best immersive classes I've been to are different every time but also have a theme for each class. Sometimes instructors bring out a quote or have a specific area of the body or topic to think about during the session and I really love this because it helps not spin your mind as much when the teacher is redirecting specific areas of your life to reflect on. Will love to hear how this class advances over time!

Joel is hands-down the most patient, knowledgable, and honest yogi I've met. He blends philosophy and meditation with physical strength. One of the things he says in class is that "yoga is a breathing practice...with postures." For someone like me who is wound up really tightly, having a mentor who reminds me to slow down and breathe has changed the quality of my whole life. Joel works hard to create a community at the Smith. It's more of a family and less of a gym. He has an optional co-op program that allows members a discount on classes, and in exchange, we contribute to helping cancer patients practice for free. Classes are affordable, focused, and manageable for all levels of expertise. I find the curriculum challenging but not frustrating. I get a good workout and I always feel better after class. I love looking around the space and seeing an array of body shapes, skin colors, and ages. No egotistical show-offs here, just lovely people excited to do yoga together. The Smith is always clean, warm, and safe. It even smells good! I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders every time I climb the stairs. Highly recommended for newbies and old pros alike. Much love for Joel and Yogasmith!

Tucked away above the Jules Maes Tavern in Georgetown, Yogasmith is a serene refuge from the…read morestressors of the modern world. Siddhartha sits by the entrance, greeting practitioners as they arrive for class. A creaky staircase leads to an inviting space with brick walls, beautiful hardwood floors and ample windows throughout. A majestic gong sits front and center in the room and is surrounded by singing bowls. Music plays softly and, depending on the time of day, candles flicker. Merely entering the space stirs a sense of well-being. Yogasmith offers a variety of classes for students of all levels. These include an introductory series, as well as all-level, men's, restorative and cannabis-friendly classes. In addition to classes, there are workshops and special events such as a monthly Sound Bath. The instructors at Yogasmith come from different backgrounds, each bringing his/her own unique expertise. The studio is open seven days a week, which makes scheduling easy. Students can sign up for a series (or "stream" in Yogasmith lingo) or drop-in. Director Joel Benjamin is the soul-epicenter of Yogasmith. His approach to teaching is gentle, good-humored and encouraging. And as founder of the studio, he has gone to great length to create a community that is vibrant and inclusive. He is exquisitely mindful of how world events impact this community and is diligent in his efforts to offer comfort, resources and tools in response. There are always tea and snacks in the kitchen at Yogasmith. There is also a living room area with a library full of books on meditation, yoga and various spiritual traditions. Hang after class is highly encouraged. There are numerous coffee shops and restaurants around the bustling Georgetown neighborhood for anyone seeking a more substantial post-class nibble. I've been practicing at Yogasmith for a little over three years now, and the benefit has been invaluable. I always leave feeling better than when I came in. And with each practice, I learn something that I can take with me and apply to daily life. As a fairly recent empty nester, I'm especially grateful for the community I've found here. Whether you're a first-time student or a lifelong practitioner, there is something for you at Yogasmith. I encourage all to give it a try.
