I've loved Whole Life Yoga for years. Their Viniyoga approach is adaptable to new and experienced yogis alike. This isn't an aerobics class calling itself yoga; it's an informed, safe, mindful, calming, energizing practice that can be as challenging as the student wants. I'm a 20+ year practitioner and I like a more challenging practice but I see newer students enjoying practice too. I especially love how there are always millennials mixed in with retirement- aged yogis. With covid they closed their physical space and moved to zoom classes. I'm amazed to say that even the zoom classes are wonderful. I was skeptical, but Kim (the owner and only online teacher I've had) still helps with alignment if she notices you need help, and I still get that Whole Life Yoga feeling of calm and grounding. read more

It's been one whole year since I broke my ankle now, so I am giving myself until the end of December to quit talking about it . . . but it is relevant to my review of Whole Life Yoga . . . or, at least I'll MAKE it relevant so I can mention it :o) You know that girl? That cute, teensy girl wearing the cool, color-coordinated Athleta yoga outfit with the appropriately zen-like tattoo in a place only exposed during the most twisty of yoga poses that she executes flawlessly--? I am afraid that if I attend a yoga class with a group of them, they will execute a series of yoga poses in perfect synchronization, and then simultaneously change into fembot ninja assassins and turn on me. I'M the girl who looks like a real person, wears whatever is handy to work out in--and probably accidentally spilled something on herself on the way to class--develops bed head after lying on the yoga mat for 5 seconds and can't even THINK about imitating a pretzel because of all of the creaks and groans and current structural concerns of my skeletal system. Right now I'm pretty happy if I can get from lying down to sitting or standing with no major muscle spasms. So, I really wanted to try yoga to further work on my ankle (still swollen and hard to flex after a year), incorporate a mind-body workout for relaxation and reap the other many benefits . . . but I was intimidated. It's like any new thing for me: I fear judgment and massive humiliation but (eventually) have to power through it anyway--there aren't REALLY any fembots, right? Or, I am sure they are all very nice, once you get to know them . . . So I started looking on Yelp for the least of all scary yoga studios. Whole Life branded itself as yoga for real people, so I gave it a shot. I am SO glad I did! Everyone is so nice, and helpful and everything else that has been said in other reviews. I was shocked to discover that a lot of the people that go there have worse issues than a broken ankle--I was feeling pretty good that I ONLY had a broken ankle. We all do what we can and progress at our own rate, and there is always someone to help you modify a pose (I think they have a person on stand-by full-time for me). I've gone from being super-intimidated to doing yoga three times a week with zero habit-building pains. And those perfect people? I figured out that they only exist in magazines, television and in website photos . . . actually, I see a lot of "beautiful" people at Whole Life, but they are beautiful in a real-person, three-dimensional way . . . sort of like a Dove soap commercial. :o) read more

I don't know why I have such a mental block against yoga. I guess it's because I'm from the high-intensity fat-burning generation where if it wasn't burning fat what good was it? Well, the joke's on me because now I'm over 40 and have all that 80's weight back and about one of the ONLY things I can do without hurting myself is yoga. The women at Whole Life could not have been more welcoming or friendly when I arrived with my free coupon to try a class. The basic class was perfect for me and a great class for anyone who's dabbled or never taken yoga before. I felt both stretched and relaxed. I didn't break a sweat but had to remind myself that I was serving my body in a different way. The room is pretty small compared to other studios I've visited, and the floor could have been swept but overall a great experience. On the way there, I only wanted to turn around and go home twice, and I even told myself "If there's no parking, I'm going home." But I'm glad I stayed. The friendliness of the staff and the non-attitude of the other participants went a long way in soothing my yoga anxiety. I will definitely be back. read more

When I lived in Greenwood, I was a regular at Whole Life Yoga. (And, if you need proof, I am actually IN one of the non-pregnant yoga class photos right here on Yelp!) Tracy runs a fabulous studio. She starts each class by asking what people want to "work on" that day (neck & shoulders, lower back, etc.), then plans the class so all wishes are met. In most cases, she offers suggestions to make a pose a bit gentler or a bit more challenging, if you are so inclined. I love that this means "class" is never the same twice. (I've heard told of places that do the exact same poses, with no room for variation, in the exact same order every time. I'd be bored silly!) I have tried to find a new studio that I love as much closer to my new end of town, but so far have nothing that comes close to the unpretentious, relaxing and welcoming environment I found at Whole Life Yoga. read more

This is a mellow, completely unpretentious yoga place. They have both series classes and then drop-in (ongoing classes). I have been to a variety of the ongoing classes and sampled quite a few instructors. Each one is a little different and it might take you a while to find a instructor that works for you. The classes tend to be relatively laid back with a variety of options for different levels of strength, flexibility, and desired intensity. If you want a place that will push you, this is not it. If you are looking for a place to relax and build strength and flexibility within a calm, supportive, and completely non-competitive place this is definitely it! All in all, it is a great price for great, relaxing classes! read more

This one room yoga studio located on Greenwood is worth checking out. Limited parking is available in a garage in the back. Classes vary by difficulty level and time. Drop in classes are 15$, but many series classes are offered as well. Some speciality classes include yoga for hips, relaxation, and pregnancy. Instructors seem a step above some others and are able to clearly explain postures and yoga theories. Complimentary tea is offered in the lobby. I was lucky enough to attend a free nutrition class and yoga session and Whole Life. i was thrilled at the class i attended. the instructor of the Yoga portion was the studio owner. She took an assessment of all of us before the class, and talked us through the actions. She took a personal interest in each of us, even commenting on a unique item on my personal assessment. On a recent trip to Seattle to visit family, I decided to take a few yoga classes. My mom had been to Whole Life Yoga and so I followed suit. Because I wasn't purchasing a class series I had to use their drop-in option which was fine by me as they offered several per day and some on the weekend. I think what I loved most was that the teacher took the first few minutes of class to ask what everyone wanted to work on that day. I came out of each class feeling stretched, like I had a work-out and MUCh more relaxed. I can't wait to go back! If I could find a place in Austin as reasonable in price with the awesome-ness of these wonderful instructors, I'd go every day! Thanks guys!! read more

I did not contact Tracy for a refund a year later, I responded to a survey that was emailed to me by Whole Life Yoga. If I lived closer to this yoga studio, I'd be a yogi by now. I went to one class after a several year hiatus (yoga trauma!) and it was so great. I did not feel any underlying competition or pressure to push myself. The teacher was attentive (in bigger classes, in most places I've been, the teacher simply cannot walk by and adjust people, which is a shame). I long to return for more regular classes. Visiting Seattle from out of town, I took an All Levels class one Sunday morning and it was just what I needed after a day of travel. The class was comprised of a diverse group of students -- truly all levels, all sizes, all ages, and many different abilities. It's always refreshing to take a "real people" yoga class! I would heartily recommend this studio as a place to learn or revisit the basics. Also, you know you've got a great yoga teacher when she starts the class by asking you what you want. People asked for shoulder work, core work, releasing low back tension, and she designed the class on the spot around those specific requests. Now that's someone who knows her yoga, not just a 200 hour certificate teacher who sticks to the same three vinyasa flow routines. read more

Whole Life Yoga is wonderful for both pre- and post-natal yoga. When I was pregnant with my son, their prenatal classes gave me energy and helped with all of the aches and pains of pregnancy. Now that my son is 10 weeks old, I am taking Belly After Baby with Sharon. I love this class. It has helped so much with energy and overall core strength. I leave the class feeling relaxed, but energized, with an overall sense of well being. Sharon is awesome! She always tailors her classes to the needs of the group. I love this studio because it is very welcoming to all levels. There isn't any competition in the room, and I always feel a sense of community. If you are currently pregnant or have recently had a baby, definitely check out Whole Life's classes. No more mummy tummy! read more

I started going to Whole Life Yoga when my son was a newborn. Suzette is THE best instructor I have ever had! She challenged me, just enough, to help my body get back in shape. I've been struggling with nagging lower back pain for several years now. Not a constant pain, but rather a mild, manageable pain that would come and go for no rhyme or reason. A couple months ago, I thought I'd give yoga a try (last time i took a yoga class was over 10 years ago). I live near Whole Life Yoga but didn't know anything about the studio. So I went to Yelp and read the (nearly all) positive reviews. That encouraged me to take the next step. On their site, I discovered they offer a "yoga for healthy backs" class, and was immediately interested. But I was still a little skeptical that it would actually do anything to help my back. I figured it was worth a test though. I can say now, that after 5 classes, my nagging lower back pain is pretty much gone. The classes take place in a relaxed, low pressure setting, and the movements were simple, clever, and subtle. Very easy to replicate most of the movements at home. Here you will find the "Yoga for Real People" beginner's series (6 classes to test the water and see if it works for you). This studio focuses less on the spiritual and more on the physical/mental aspects of yoga. The owner is great, the staff is looking to meet you wherever you are at. I recently took Katie's Chronic Pain series and it was wonderful! She was gentle and supportive, offering plenty of alternatives and nice suggestions for how to manage pain with breath and mindfulness. She ended our series with a little tea ceremony. In the short time that I have been coming to this studio they have won over my heart. Aside from having classes everyday, most classes are also suitable for beginners. All of the instructors have their own flair and personality. Julia has a very warm and kind energy. Tracey is very encouraging and loving. Jennifer adds fun to the practice. Even if you come to the studio regularly you will still have a chance to practice with a different instructor. The studio provides mats, blankets, blocks and pillows. Before class they always ask for special requests. People have asked for meditation, balance, core or to remain conscious of certain parts of the body due to injury. I have had to adjust some of my moves since I am still very new and working on flexibility. The instructors are always happy to accommodate all levels of students. They help make everyone feel welcome and supported. The only downside is that occasionally you can hear traffic outside or the business above but I just use that as an opportunity to return to my breath. i have been taking the 'yoga for round bodies' class as taught by patricia @ whole life yoga for a couple years now, and i ADORE this class. it's not easy being a round-bodied person trying to get into yoga - the first classes i went to years ago were frustrating, mostly because everyone else was able to get into asanas much easier than i could due to their pretzel-type abilities to twist and hold and stay. patricia's class, however, is opening and welcoming to those of us who might need a simple change to a particular asana due to our curves. and patricia is so INCREDIBLY supportive and helpful and friendly that she makes me want to return to class again and again...and now that i've had the class so many times i am able to actually go deeper into poses and do stays, which i never would have thought possible back when i was in my first yoga class years ago. i feel like a jock when i'm in class! now if only i could have her around to help motivate me at home when i want to do yoga but only have myself to report to.... in any case, if you (or anyone you know) are "round bodied" and have thought about yoga but have been put off by all the lithe pretzel people, come try patricia's class out - i bet you'll end up a devotee like me! read more

Whole Life Yoga is my favorite yoga studio ever. Period. Their breath-based style of yoga is unlike anything else I've done before and it leaves me feeling stretched out and stress free! Every instructor I have encountered has been incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming. There's no competition here, and no judgment if you need to modify your practice to suit your own abilities and strengths. Prices for drop-in classes are pretty standard by Seattle prices; punch cards and monthly subscriptions are available as well. I recently got involved here after walking by and grabbing a flier, which advertised a FREE first class. I called and left a voicemail to inquire for more info (i.e. is it actually free or is it more like you pay for 10 and get one free?). Turns out it's actually totally free with no obligation. Communication with the owner was prompt, helpful, and pleasant. I showed up for the my first "drop in" at the prenatal class (yes, that means a room of pregnant ladies doing yoga) completely unsure of what it would be like; I'd never been in a yoga class before. For me (not an intense yoga person), this class was the perfect balance of relaxation/breathing and hard work. The instructor of this particular class (Suzette) is really warm, calming, and knowledgable. She is encouraging and positive and constantly is mindful of the pregnancy factor - both in physical ways (the fact that she doesn't ask us to do much on our backs, for example, and asks who is comfortable with what, etc) and emotional ways (she prompts us to imagine our babies, to use the breathing techniques during labor, and so on). The beginning of the class finds students introducing themselves and their pregnancies (i.e. first child? # of weeks along? how you've been feeling...) and asking if there's anything we'd like to focus on. The class was about an hour 15, I think, and left me feeling SUPER relaxed, strong, and flexible. You don't even need to bring a mat - all the accessories are provided. Ambience is SUPER relaxing in a clean, spacious studio, with calming (but not cheesy) music. Today I bought a 5-class pass, which gets you a modest discount and can be used for any class at any time; it's nice to have that flexibility -- you don't lose anything by skipping a week! read more

I found this place because I googled yoga studios close to my house. I liked that all the reviews said this is a place for people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. I was hooked when I saw they have a series class titled "Yoga for Healthy Backs"; that's exactly what I need! The instructor, Karen, is wonderful about guiding you through the moves and offering alternatives if any one position is too difficult. The class meets once a week, but I wanted more, so I decided to also try an All Levels drop-in class. Julie is fantastic. At the beginning of every class she asks if there is anything in particular people want to focus on, then she tailors the class to those requests. It's something different every time, which I appreciate, and she also offers variations on positions if something is too difficult for you. It truly is an All Levels class. I like that for drop-in classes you can pay as you go, or you can buy a multi-class pass for a bit of a discount. I am definitely going to make time in my schedule to attend more of these classes. I am a beginner and can't do very advanced moves, but I still feel better after each class and sleep so well at night. I think Whole Life Yoga is very welcoming of all abilities. read more

None of the classes are super intense, so if that's what you're looking for, this may not be the place (or maybe I didn't take those intense classes). Fantastic place. Love the owner, Tracy, and the ambience of the studio: it's very welcoming for people of all experience levels and body types (i.e., one doesn't have to have that 'yoga body' or be able to get their postures 'perfect' to feel comfortable here). I loved the Yoga for Real People series they have going regularly as an introduction to viniyoga (the style of yoga practiced there). The yoga instructors are well-versed in anatomy and are great at suggesting posture modifications when people have knee/back/etc. issues. I feel like I'm in good hands when I go there. read more

I just registered for my 3rd month of their early morning yoga immersion class, 3 times a week. I was referred to Whole Life Yoga Studio by another instructor who thought we'd be a good match. I wasn't sure what Viniyoga was and had been to many classes where I was unable to participate because of what was being expected of me. I have Multiple Sclerosis and began to feel as if I'd never be able to practice in a group setting because there are some poses that aren't right for my body. I'm so glad I found Whole Life Yoga. Here I've never felt incapable of anything. I've learned how to listen to my body and to honor it. I've also learned how to adapt poses and practice confidently in a group setting. a very open, inviting yoga studio. attended a sunday yoga class taught by tracy and she really teaches to and with the class. at the beginning of class she asked for what people wanted and developed the class and poses to meet the group need. it feels like a great place for all levels of yogis or just people who want to try yoga. 2 teachers-in-training sat in the front corners of the room and observed the class, taking notes for their own learning which i thought was cool (cool for them that tracy / the studio is so open to learning in that way). the class i attended was not a traditional flow class, yet all the poses flowed well together. the overall place/studio felt a bit cramped to me - a small reception/waiting area and one windowless studio room (except when the door is open between the reception area and studio natural light from the street facing windows comes through). read more
