If you're using ClassPass, be aware of how Seal Beach Pilates handles reservations. If they have enough of their own members sign up, your ClassPass reservation can get bumped--and they don't notify you. This has now happened to me twice. I showed up today expecting to take class, only to find out my spot had been cancelled without any notice. Again. It's clear their own members come first, and ClassPass users are treated as expendable. That's fine if that's their policy, but the lack of communication is the real issue. Showing up to a cancelled class with zero heads-up is frustrating and a waste of time. If you rely on ClassPass, just know your booking here isn't guaranteed. I only like 1 of the instructors anyway, so no big loss. It's the principal of the lack of respect. read more

I have been going to SBP for over 3 years. They have a variety of instructors that are all excellent at all levels of experience. It is a neighborhood studio. Only 8 reformers which guarantees a personal touch during each class. The studio is extremely clean and comfortable. The cost is much less than others in the area with smaller classes. Seal Beach Pilates to me is a "boutique" studio in the best sense of the word. it has a very personalized feel, at the same time, the instructors are quite experienced and professional while intuitively looking out for each student. the ratio is one instructor per eight students. I have experienced great benefits from being with this studio for a year and a half. I started with one or two classes per week and I am now taking four or five classes per week. I am a cyclist primarily and had some knee issues which have all been worked out in the studio. some instructors specialize in stretching and dance moves, others in repetition and targeting muscle groups - extremely helpful. for me, abs, arms and ankles made a huge difference, stronger ankles takes the load off my knees when I clip and unclip on my bike repetitively. my abs and lower back are much stronger so I can do garden work, handyman work around my house as needed, and daily chores without injuring my lower back on a regular basis. that had been my previous experience! these ladies (instructors) are fantastic at working with each student and explaining modifications for each student as needed, including me. that makes all the difference! read more

I love Seal Beach Pilates! I bought a Groupon to check it out as I had never taken a pilates class before. I instantly fell in love with the classes and have been going for almost a year now. After 3 months I began to lose several inches and a few months later, others began to notice the change as well. Marika and her staff are very knowledgable and are always checking to ensure their clients are doing the moves correctly and safely. There are 7 reformer machines so you really feel like you are getting that personal training. I love that the teachers are always changing and adding new moves so that your body is constantly being challenged. I highly recommend this Pilates Studio! Check it out! read more

My review for the way the business is run is a 1/5, but the instructors themselves 5/5. I bought a Groupon and I reserved a class online (which by the way is a website that is not user friendly). In order to do this, you have to great an account. At first, I was able to reserve a class without putting down my CC information. However, the second time it wouldn't bring me to the same screen, so I was forced to enter it. After entering it, I decided against it, and deleted my information, but what do I find out? That the website saved my credit card information and then used it to charge me a late fee for the 2nd class I did not show up for. I understand the studio has to reserve a spot for the person etc, but saving my information without my consent is unacceptable. They made it so difficult for Groupon users, so I definitely do not suggest this place. Also the owner was very rude when I emailed/called her and stated that the late fee policy was hidden away on the website. (Which btw you have to uncover by clicking thru AFTER you paid for the class IIRC). Then after showing up for my first class, I find out that Groupon has also DEDUCTED 2 classes from my voucher for 5. So they not only charged me $12 for a late class, they also deducted my class credit/voucher. DO NOT RECOMMEND. So many other pilates places that conduct their business much more ethically. Side note: the instructors are very nice and creative with their routines, to no credit of the owner. read more

Love this place! I found the studio through Groupon and just love it. I've done Pilates off and on for years and found this studio to be one of the best. The instructors are very creative in their use of equipment and the routines, and each workout is engaging, fun and challenging. There is a good range of equipment that you don't see in every studio. Every instructor I've had has been friendly and helpful in correcting my form. They are also good at finding alternatives for me to accommodate a neck injury. I usually end up feeling rubbery after a workout. They also have the most flexible pricing plan I've seen at a Pilates studio. read more

I enjoy the classes so much. I came from sitting for work 8-12 hours a day - so, needless to say, very little strength. Nervous to start because I wasn't sure if I could even do anything I've been to 15 classes now. I can see muscle tone and definition. I discovered Pilates 4 years ago at Seal Beach Pilates and has been the 1st and only studio I've used. I have never had a reason to try other studios as Marika (the owner) is an amazing person and that carries forward to her business approach; so very concientious, supportive and kind. She has chosen her instructors very carefully takes the time to know everyone who steps inside her studio, this policy is also present in all the instructors, they take the time to know your particular needs. SBP has a variety of classes, all of the best equipment and the website makes scheduling your workout a breeze. Each class is small enough to have the feel of one-on-one. If you are looking for positive moral support, someone to help you challenge yourself, and a nice studio to practice pilates, then this is your place!! Okay, I have not one single negative comment about this place. Marika (owner) is the cutest and she is so helpful! She wants nothing but the best from you, so that you are able to get the most out of Pilates. Marika will correct you if you are not moving correctly and she will show you before asking you to do something new on the machine/chair. Brenda is a sweetie too, she has been nothing but nice to me and helpful when I have a question. (They are the only 2 that conduct the beginner classes.) In August 2016, I had my first child and for about 6 month before that, I didn't do anything to workout (yes, bad, I know), however, once I was feeling better from delivery, I started up with taking pilates for the first time. I had a 24 Hour Fitness pass for years with which I would do my own workouts and attend a few classes here and there, but I was never fully satisfied with any kind of outcomes I had there. I tried yoga and even hot yoga a number of times over the course of 6 months or more and I never felt comfortable in the studio, I felt judged and I just didn't like the experience in general. I also worked out with kickboxing for about a year and that was something I loved but the place is now ran by a new owner and I just can't make a 6 am class like I used to, LOL. The first time I used the pilates reformer machine, I fell in love!! I knew that this was something that I could start out with in a beginner class and get used to using my body again and I could begin to challenge myself as I got stronger. I have now done 11 beginner classes and 1 regular class (I went right back to the beginner after that one!) and I can honestly say that I am feeling a difference and noticing a difference also. I gained about 35 pounds with my pregnancy but my body has definitely changed from it and I want to do all I can to get my body back! As I was gathering my things today after my class, Marika asked me if I am feeling better and I said that I was. She mentioned to me that she notices a difference in how I use my body to get up from the reformer machine and that I am using more of my obliques rather than my arms to help me sit up in order to stand up off the reformer. I haven't felt like this since before I was pregnant, so thank you, Marika, you're wonderful! I can't wait to see how I feel in a couple more months with my membership at your studio! Pricing is a little steep, but average for pilates, however, your health is worth it!!! read more

I have done most exercise available to me including Yoga, Kick Boxing, Soccer, Swimming, Running, etc. and i can confidently say that Pilates at Seal Beach Pilates is the most effective. I have been doing it since October and i cant imagine not doing every week. Marika is simply the most kind, hardworking, and positive owner/instructor that you could ever hope for. She has hired a stellar group of teachers that are beyond qualified, which is refreshing. Being 22, i have never been able to touch my toes or be any kinds of flexible, and now i am not only able to touch my toes but do the splits. Can not say enough on how amazing they are. When Marika opened her studio, I was so excited to take Pilates again! I'd studied in LA extensively, but it had been about fifteen years. Since then, I'd practiced only yoga. After cervical spin surgery, I could no longer continue any exercise that involved my upper body. My neck and arms became inflammed whenever I did yoga or even light weight training.
