This is apparently THE place for Fish and Chips in London (#1 in London and in the top 5 in the UK). We went early (between 1700 and 1800) and it was easy to get a table. The calamari was awesome, as was the fish and chips. You can choose (cod and hake the night we were there). The hake had a lighter taste but more compact texture. The cod had the flakier fish texture. The waitress described the hake as more "fishy" but I associate that description with a heavy fish taste, not texture...so I thought I'd explicate here. I eat here from time to time and it's pretty good as more up-market fish & chip establishments go, but I've never quite understood why the place gets so many rave reviews here and elsewhere. The standard cod or whatever and chips is decent enough, but a bit pricy compared to a more basic chippie where the quality may be as good or better. The upside is you can get a decent glass of wine with your meal, and the value seems to improve as you progress up the menu. One of the most disappointing experiences I've had since I started visiting London back in the early1980's. My wife and I visited YELP to find ourselves a seafood restaurant that served Dover Sole. A number of names came up but the one that seemed to be closest to the Theater where we were to see "WICKED" was this Seafresh. We were unable to make a reservation "on line" but were told to email them at an email address. And that we did requesting a 5:00 PM dinner reservation. We got there right at 5:00 PM and the door was locked. Good start to a restaurant experience??? Then the door was opened and we were told that the waitperson would seat us - which she did - to a table that was next to the kitchen access. Lots of traffic there we figured so we request another table nearer a quiet spot in the restaurant. We sat down and waited and waited until finally I got up and asked the manager why our waitperson hadn't taken our order. He sent her over but gave me reason at all why this happened. The waitperson took our order, my wife had the Dover Sole and I had the fish-N-chips. We also ordered wine (house) for my wife and hard cider for me. Neither arrived anytime soon - we were left there "waiting and waiting and waiting, until, again, I asked someone coming out of the kitchen how long it took to get a glass of wine and a pint of cider? Interestingly enough, the wine and cider were on top of the bar awaiting a waitperson to pick it up. The wine/cider were soon delivered. It took another 25 minutes for the fish entrees to be delivered. Having lived in the UK for 3 years in the 1990's, I found what was delivered to be a TERRIBLE EXAMPLE OF WHAT A RESTAURANT CAN DO TO ALIENATE A PATRON. The Dover Sole was ultra-thin and COLD when it arrived. It hadn't been de-boned and I had to ask to have that done. The waitperson seemed to be upset that I asked to have the fish de-boned. For a 32.50 Sterling fish dish with french fries (chips). My fishNchips arrived. It was a small piece of fish - with a thick coating and boiled potatoes. No butter, no nothing. Worse yet IT WAS COLD when it arrived and tasteless. When I mentioned both my wife's and my displeasure with the food and the service, the manager (Antonio) said that he had no control over the Dover Sole and apologized for the cold fishNchips and boiled potatoes, VERY HELPFUL? We paid an enormous amount for this VERY marginal meal and walked out. The manager seemed nice but had no clue or NO AUTHORITY to do anything about either the dish or the complaint. We ended up having to pay a 10% service fee for the level of service no one in their right mind would accept. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE THAT LOVES FISH AND CARES ABOUT QUALITY, WARM/HOT FOOD EVER TRY THIS RESTAURANT. In the US, this restaurant would be forced out of business by it lack of CARING about its customers or the food product it gave them. read more

One of my go to places for fish & chips when I stay near Victoria for work. Never too greasy, relatively cheap and so far always good. It's fried fish, so if that's what you're expecting you won't be disappointed. I never specify which fish and I have no idea which one I'm getting, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm not a fish and chips expert but I will say the fish and chips here is the quality I'd expect from a place that was voted #1. Even after ordering the larger portion The entree came out hot and its batter still had its crisp. Upon breaking its crispy shell it didn't drain any excess oil, but revealed a moist and flaky fillet. The batter wasn't overly seasoned but simple and true to preserve the cod flavor. Traditionally I'm not sure if it's supposed to be served with the skin on but I'm glad it did. I found that it helps to keep the fillet together as I ate it from both ends. The chips were no different than the frozen store bought variety but they were cooked, if not baked, properly to keep its crunch and not overly saturated with oil. Pricey for underwhelming food and not much atmosphere. I had haddock, which was in crisp batter and was nice and meaty. However, though the texture was great, it was very bland. Seriously. Always thought it was fairly easy to make fried fish delicious, and things like a good beer batter go far, but nothing about this has any taste. Chips were also disappointing and forgettable. Wonderful fish and chips that are wayyyyyyyy over priced: a medium haddock with chips will run you 7.5 pds! Get the combo meal, it is plenty big for a meal and a solid value at 5 pds, with soft drink. Ketchup, tartar sauce etc will run you between 20 and 60 pence per pouch, which is insane. Also, be sure to check your order, because the counter woman has a tendency to "forget" to ad extras in. Mediocre service and food. We ate here our last night in the UK expecting to get a really good meal and finish our trip with great British service. It never happened. The server barely understood English, which seems to be a reoccurring theme in England (this is not good irony when trying to get proper answers before ordering). My salad wasn't very good (brown lettuce) and over-priced scallops weren't the freshest- geeze, this is England, where the most furthest point inland is 70 miles- why is it so hard to find fresh seafood?? I was so excited to see Yelp in London and even more so when I found this fish & chips place right around the corner of my hotel! The place looks very cute - there's a sit-down restaurant side and a fast-food counter where you can get some grub to go. We had to drag our luggage with us since our hotel was charging an arm and a leg to hold our bags for us and the hostess was nice enough to allow us to bring it to the restaurant. We had the lunch special - fish and chips (along with a side of green peas and white untoasted bread) with tea and dessert. It was . . . just okay.
