Service was the most disappointing. We tried to get the check at the end several times, I noticed the male server slightly turned his head towards us but quickly tilted back and ignored, multiple times. They tell you at the door, the wait is about 5-10 minutes, when in reality it's a bit more. Limited seating. I would probably try other fish & chips spots next time because this place did not wow me. Walked in with a group of 10, and they were able to seat us well which was a very lovely thing. After we got seated, the staff was very nice, and they even wiped down the table/moved tables for us to sit at. The ordering/ food delivery time was within 10 minutes which was really good. On the way to British Museum, we decided to stop by and grab lunch. The weather was 101 and this pub does not have AC which made it awful to dine in. Plus the fan underneath us was not working. I got the cod sandwich with chips and a glass of Riesling. The waitress was the only one on the floor and I felt so bad for her as she was quite overwhelmed with all the tables she had to serve. I found this chippy online and decided to eat there during a recent trip to London. Overall, I was impressed by the clean and well run nature of the restaurant. I ordered plaice fish and chips, scampi and chips, and some boneless Korean fried chicken. The plaice fish was very bland and had a very fishy taste to it that lingered in my mouth. The chips were equally bland and needed ketchup for more flavor. The scampi was much better than the fish and chips, and I would even describe it as somewhat good. Hands-down, the best item that I ordered was the Korean fried chicken and I absolutely fell in love with the taste of it. Overall, I would recommend going to Fish Plaice if you want some delicious Korean fried chicken. As a fish and chip shop right next to the British Museum, you would expect them to provide good fish and chips to showcase the best of British fish and chips to tourists. Unfortunately this is not the place to find that. Having ordered an overpriced meal of fish and chips, I was extremely disappointed to be served a plate with short, scraggly looking chips and a sparsely battered fish which was somehow still far too greasy. I've never been one to leave food on my plate but could not finish it all despite what I paid for it (this is not a testament to portion size). The only slight saving grace was the large tub of tartar sauce they give with the meal which only served to cover up the overly greasy and frozen tasting fish. I feel bad for the tourists who are going to go away judging British fish and chips poorly if they just try this place. read more
