I knew about "Seafood Junction" because of a former co-worker's recommendation. I love seafood, and hubby and I were running errands nearby. Therefore, we concluded that it was an appropriate choice to stop in for an early dinner. There are two (2) separate menus: one for the "steamed" version; the other one for the "fried." We opted for the fried catfish and perch dinners in Cajun seasoning in our first visit. Both dinners came with an AMPLE amount of fries. Since everything was made-to-order and four (4) to-go and dine-in orders were placed before ours, it was a slightly longer, yet still reasonable wait (approximately 20 minutes). The breading wasn't thick at all. The crust was crispy and golden, while the meat inside remained juicy. I enjoyed the Cajun seasoning, though it could have gone a bit easy on the salt. "Seafood Junction" made a positive impression on our inaugural visit. We thought of this corner joint this evening and wanted to get some steamed seafood home. The "steamed" combos were numbered. Contents of seafood combination in each choice were also clearly written on the black chalk board. We had the $31 shrimps, lobster tail, crab, and clams combo tray in Cajun sauce. This also came with potatoes, broccoli, and corn. The wait was rather short and sweet this time around. In about fifteen (15) minutes, our order number was called. Well, that must be my New Year luck! Everything we had was delicious. I could tell parts were thoroughly cleaned before cooking. Other than the Cajun sauce that we requested, there were two (2) additional sauces that resembled "drawn butter" included in the bag. This $31 combo definitely was a treat for us. By the way, our cats also wanted a share of our steamed seafood feast. Of course, hubby and I vigilantly dodged their claws before they reached to the tray. Hey nice try, buddies! I actually preferred their steamed seafood because I can bring the tray home, make myself a cup of tea or coffee, turn the TV on, and dig in with a plenty of napkins on the table. No idea how this place is still in business. The food is just OK at best, foul and granny at worst. Inside it's dirty, and a combination of a 7-Eleven style, quickie mart, and a counter where you can order food that is not very good. The first few times I visited the location on Kedzie and Roosevelt in Illinois it was great. I returned a few times and told friends that was before IT happened. My seafood was gritty like it wasn't washed properly and the veggie has grit on it also. Every bite I was crunching on small particle of sand. So I took the food back surely expecting my twenty something dollars back but they offered me another meal. Why? Why would I subject myself to filth again? Cool service. As to the seafood, it's aiight, as the kiddies say. I ordered a half pound of shrimp that came with broccoli, potatoes, and corn. Having gone to several seafood boil restaurants, I was nonplussed when everything came in a Styrofoam container with a dry rub thrown on top. It didn't come in a bag. There was no sauce. My friend ordered crab legs and he had to work the meat out of the legs with a plastic fork since there was no silverware. The leg I tried was not bad at all. Didn't get around to trying any desserts and I'll grab something sweet if I go again. The place fills up in the evening with those coming in for a sit-down and for carryout. The Louisiana in me may stick to the seafood boil restaurants in Chicago proper but Seafood Junction is a nice option for when I'm outside the city limits. read more

Let me explain the reason for my rating. We need another Seafood option in Oak Park. I've had the fried fish and shrimp & both choices were heavily fried in batter. It was basically flavored cornmeal. I typically always purchase the crab cluster meal which is close to $30. It includes 2 crab clusters but it equates to one due to size. Your plate is loaded with potatoes that are not even cut in decent pieces. $30 pays for one cluster and 50 potatoes. If you like steamed vegetables and seafood with excessive seasoning poured on top after it's cooked this is the place. As a 20 year resident of Oak Park I never had to pay $1 for using my debit card. Anytime where blacks are the majority of patrons there's an extra cost. Oh but if you use government assistance it's free but you have to pay extra for supporting this business by using your debit/credit card like who uses cash anyway. I love this place so much! Yea, I admit it's a little pricey but the food is so dang good. The regular seasoning is my favorite. Be careful if you get any other kind of seasoning because I heard it's spicy. They give you generous portions and all the dishes come with potatoes, corn, and broccoli. Trust me you will be full! My family dined there today and we received excellent customer service. Our food took longer to prepare than normal, so we got free cookies and seafood salad. Hey! We also got a 10 percent military discouny which im so for because this business supports there soldiers!!! When we got home they didnt give us out order of crab cluster. We werent charged. It's a pricey meal due to the food provided, but that's what seafood costs. Called several times and never got an answer, so ordered online through grubhub and selected pick up versus delivery. The loads of butter that you food is swimming in is completely off putting but this is a place where my cousin is able to use her link card to buy me loads of seafood, & I pay the cash to get it cooked. I really want to like this place since it is so close. I ordered fried shrimp and fries. The shrimp were heavily breaded. I felt like I was eating shrimp flavored corn meal. The fries were ok but weren't crispy at all. And they have hot sauce and cocktail sauces in packets instead of containers. Makes it hard to put it on your shrimp. read more

I love seafood and I've visited other location. So when I found out this location was closer to me, I thought I'd visit and give it a try. Several options to choose. The minute you walk in, the menu is overwhelming and didn't realize that there was an additional menu option in the other room or dining area. I wished I knew that before I placed my order, but I had no regrets with my order (Crab legs, shrimp, and catfish). Order included plenty of broccoli and potatoes. The corn is delicious, but you only get one. So be prepared to fight for it. Lol. Beware of long lines and waiting time for your orders. The girls were nice and remember be patient while waiting for your food. It is a residential area with parking meters nearby, but parking was hectic. Do enjoy your food. read more

I called back to see if I could get it refunded and the person that answered the phone said that the manager told her that I would have to come back in to get it refunded. What crap. They made the mistake and won't work with you to get a refund when you can't come back. They should be more customer service orientated. The food came reasonably timely, but it was worth the wait as everything was cooked fresh and was piping hot when we got it. The place was mostly empty while we were there and most people seemed to be getting take out instead of dining in. They don't offer any free water though, and the general service of the staff was mediocre as they weren't very friendly or seemed to be having a bad day. The flavor content was so elementary , it consisted of shaking a raw mixed seasoning over steamed food. It is like frying chicken and then shaking Lawry's seasoning on top. Can you say delicious! I come here at least 2 times a month. I love their food it's cooked perfect tasteful and the variety of options is delightful. I enjoyed a salmon shrimp platter the shrimp was cooked perfectly the salmon was breaking to pieces and was fresh. The broccoli and potatoes were superb. This is more of a grab and go spot. Don't expect anything resembling customer service if you dine in. I got the crab/shrimp platter. The menu reads "made to order" but it's anything but that. It was all pre-cooked and ready within 3-4min. I agree with previous reviews that it's simply steamed food with dry seasoning tossed on top. I received my food in a styrofoam container, sitting in about 1/2cm of unflavored butter. I sat in the booth immediately next to the counter and instead of walking 3 feet to drop my food at my booth they had me get up and get it. I asked for extra seasoning later; again, they dropped it at the counter for me to grab it. -The crab (having been steamed over and over again) was soft and not meaty at all. Good luck with that plastic fork, because that's all they give you. -The shrimp was tough as tires. -The corn was overcooked and mushy as baby food. It stuck to my teeth as I bit into it. I threw it away. -The broccoli was the only item cooked reasonably. This spot satisfied my craving for the taste of crab (after adding my own salt and cajun), but their food isn't anything you can't make in your own home. In fact, you could likely make it better than them. Over-steamed items , soaked in butter, w some store-bought seasoning spread on top (which you can buy yourself in the restaurant or at your local grocery).
