My favorite place in Oxnard! Great food, beautiful views, and activities to do. There's a range of different places to eat from sushi, seafood, pizza, Mexican, Mediterranean, desserts, smoothies, etc. Even have banks, dry cleaners, and a Von's. Whatever your heart's desire, they've got it here! Great place to have a picnic as well. There are plenty of seating areas, a playground for the kids, and its always a nice stroll around the area. There are views no matter where you turn! There are also plenty of vendors in the docking areas that let you rent a boat to sail around the harbor, paddleboard, kayak, etc. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area. There are always locals here strolling around and I recommend chatting with a few, they'll definitely give you recommendations of places to visit/eat. They always know the best spots!

My brother visited from Maryland (he is military) and we walked the island on a sunny day. He said it reminded him of a retirement community in Florida. Rofl! Kind of does. I recommend walking the bridge early morning and checking out the local businesses. There are bat rays and small sharks in the water near the ampitheatre. We even saw a little red octopus over there (I swear).

Great quiet and peaceful area for a walk. There are several businesses in this area from a 24 hour fitness to a Vons grocery store. The best part are the walking paths around the water. They weave around varied apartment/condos and housing in the area. There is a calming relaxing feeling walking here. There are also various workout stations along the walk as well as a park and children's play area in two locations.

    On a walking path.

The parking lot was full when I arrived at noon but I parked along San Nicholas Ave. It was not too far to walk to the beach entrance. Some things I liked about this beach was that it definitely was not crowded considering a lot of people are vacationing in the Ventura/Santa Barbara area in July and school is out. The farther away you move away from the restrooms and parking lot, the less and less people you will see on the beach. Parking in the parking lot is free but it's not very big so it's easy to see why it fills up quickly. The bathrooms are metal toilets and although there was seat covers there is no soap to wash your hands so you should bring hand sanitizer. There are 2 lifeguard towers but I only saw one active in the tower. The #2 lifeguard tower looked closed up. So you are better off sticking closer to the bathrooms for lifeguard safety. There were a lot of people surfing and boogie boarding here. At one point the lifeguard had to tells some boogie boarders to move down further and it looked like the section they were in was starting to look pretty rough. Dogs are not allowed between 9am-5pm but you will still see people walking their dogs on the beach. Overall it was a nice beach. I feel like there was definitely more driftwood here and more wood pieces in the sand that poke your feet but I did not encounter any tar on my feet at this beach which is a plus.

Some local beaches are starting to charge, but this one still offers PLENTY of free parking. In addition, there are multiple playgrounds - including a pirate galleon from when the park was established during my childhood, a THOUSAND years ago! It doesn't have the zip line that caused me to smash my leg into the concrete side, leaving a still visible scar 1,000 years later, which is probably for the best, but a kinder/gentler playground with more modern amenities for today's active child. There is also an expansive grass area, where you will find many local pups bounding about with joy. On the grassy areas, BBQs! Also a protected, man made beach cove with an easy enter, small to no wave water entry. Lots of families prefer to set up their space on the green grass and then make their way to the beach, which is an ideal way to have your picnic sand free! A foot shower is also available to rinse the beach off before you settle back onto your blanket. Plenty of benches, tables and a bathroom that is, if I'm being completely honest, acceptable, but could use an upgrade. If you're more active, make your way to the public dock to launch your kayak, paddle board, etc. I've also seen people fishing from this dock and launching remote control boats - so cute! If you haven't brought your own board or boat, there is a rental kiosk handily available. This is also a great park to stroll through. A clear path goes from the parking lot to the tip of the Ventura Harbor entrance, known as Soter Point, where a beautiful sculpture stands. When I think of the perfect beach park, I think of Marina Park in Ventura. Cheers! "CC"
