I decided to come here by myself on July 3rd. It was not nearly as crowded as Carpinteria City Beach that I just visited yesterday. The parking lot was full when I arrived at noon but I parked along San Nicholas Ave. It was not too far to walk to the beach entrance. Some things I liked about this beach was that it definitely was not crowded considering a lot of people are vacationing in the Ventura/Santa Barbara area in July and school is out. The farther away you move away from the restrooms and parking lot, the less and less people you will see on the beach. Parking in the parking lot is free but it's not very big so it's easy to see why it fills up quickly. The bathrooms are metal toilets and although there was seat covers there is no soap to wash your hands so you should bring hand sanitizer. There are 2 lifeguard towers but I only saw one active in the tower. The #2 lifeguard tower looked closed up. So you are better off sticking closer to the bathrooms for lifeguard safety. There were a lot of people surfing and boogie boarding here. At one point the lifeguard had to tells some boogie boarders to move down further and it looked like the section they were in was starting to look pretty rough. Dogs are not allowed between 9am-5pm but you will still see people walking their dogs on the beach. Overall it was a nice beach. I feel like there was definitely more driftwood here and more wood pieces in the sand that poke your feet but I did not encounter any tar on my feet at this beach which is a plus. read more

Ok, ok I know you are thinking. You are saying to yourself why in hell should I even bother reading this review about another Southern California beach. All beaches are the same right? What's this crazy guy going to possibly say about this beach that's any different from any other beach in the surrounding area that you don't already know? What's he going to tell me that there's... Enough sand to make any house cat think this is the world largest cat box? That the water is really, really, REALLY Salty?? That if you actually sit here long enough you can witness the sun rise in the East and magically set in the West??? Yes, yes, and YES to all of the above, but...... Wait! You are still here? Well I guess I'll let you in on a little secret... At Silver Strand Beach... THERES NOBODY HERE!!! Yes, you heard me right. This is by no means a private beach, but a very public beach in Oxnard that not many people seem to know about. Even though it's lined with homes along Ocean Drive, Silver Strand Beach is a one mile stretch of white sand, clean water and almost vacant beach front for the locals and anyone who seems to know about this spot. (Even the local residents don't even seem to take advantage). The water is quite mild and definitely has kid friendly waves, but decent enough for body boarding and possibly beginner surfing. The beach is very, very clean and is even dog friendly before 9am and after 5pm (and no you can't bring your cat, it's not really a cat box). So, now that I've spilled the beans on this little slice of paradise, I encourage my Ventura County Locals to come check it out for themselves... You can Thank me later! Tucked away behind the homes on Ocean Drive, is a beautiful, dog friendly beach called Silver Strand. Too bad there's a huge oil pipe (see photo) marring the view between the tightly packed houses and the sea. There was plenty of room to social distance in November on this mile-long sandy, stretch of the coast between the harbors of Channel Islands and Port Hueneme. We spotted a few surfers and families the four days we combed the shore and watched the pelicans and dolphins. Parking was never an issue since we strolled over from our convenient Air B&B. We were along Ocean Dr. and Glendale Avenue. The stretch of beach was empty when we'd arrived. The sand is soft, but HOT!!! We easily found a prime spot along the shore where we set up our mats, umbrellas, and other beach items. Beach patrol come by pretty often to pick up trash, which is great. There were lots of animals to watch while we were here: seals, pelicans and a few dolphins. The tide was low and gentle. It was perfect for my kiddo and lots of other kiddos that were out to boogie board, long board, skim board, or just chase the waves. There's no restroom near by, unfortunately. It's a good long walk. Lots of ppl were out on their boats, speed boats, Duffy boats, jet skis and other toys. It was a beautiful day. Parking can be difficult but if you drive along Ocean I'm pretty sure you'll find something, fingers crossed. read more

What a cute beach! Even on a summer weekend, I found Silver Strand to be fairly quiet with plenty of space to spread out. It's also dog-friendly and seems to be popular with the local surf community. Unlike in LA and OC, street parking is also easy to find here in the neighborhood. read more

Visiting family in the area and this was the spot they recommended. Nice out of the way location. Quieter than other will know beaches and the good and bad. You can bring dogs but looks like many don't pick up after them. We did not see any issues during our visit. Nice waves and some surfing the days we visited. Restrooms on one end of the beach and also a hotdog vendor. If you want a less crowded beach and more local feel this is a good spot. read more

A nice stretch of beach, a little isolated from the more popular ones in the area, where your dogs can run free. There is a stench of dog urine, but that's to be expected, right? I have no problem with that. The sand gets a little rocky as you get closer to the water so if you're here to sun bathe or just enjoy the sound of the ocean, or surf, you should do just fine. If it's good enough for Fido, it's good enough for me! read more

Silver Strand Beach is a great, family friendly beach. I was impressed at how clean it was. There was no seaweed covered with flies and insects like other beaches. We set up our pop up tent and enjoyed some fun in the sun with our grandkids. There is parking lot located adjacent to the beach with restroom facilities, which is really convenient. There are also life guards over looking the beach from their tower. Great place for some family fun. read more

I grew up going on school field trips to Zuma, spending Christmas breaks boogie boarding with my friends, and taking part in family outings picnicing on the beach. I never realized until I moved away from home, across the country, that in all the years I spent taking for granted that big body of water called the Pacific Ocean, I had grown a deep affinity for Silver Strand beach. Silver Strand could be my favorite beach in the world, though I doubt it would be anyone else's. The sand is rough and jagged on bare feet. The water's freezing (not literally, but feels that way). The seagulls will stalk you if you bring food. (Feed them some hot and spicy Cheetos and see how fast they run to the water for a drink. Muhahaha!) It's a nook of a beach, wedged in between the Channel Islands Harbor and the US Navy Base Port Hueneme so I wouldn't call it a romantic, vast stretch of coastline. What brings me to Silver Strand is it's isolation and short distance from my parents' house. Unlike a lot of beaches in SoCal, there are never tourists and is rarely even frequented by locals. Colorful beach houses line the sand about 100 yards from the water. The views of the sunset are perfect. I know I'll spend my life in search of beaches with the bluest waters, tallest palm trees, and softest sand, but Silver Strand will always be there for me when I come back to it. Jason Mraz is extremely cheesy, but his song 'Lucky' is how I feel when I think of Silver Strand: I keep you with me in my heart You make it easier when life gets hard Lucky to have been where I have been Lucky to be coming home again I find myself driving the 20 minutes every time I come home to pay a visit, even if it means going alone, even alone on an overcast and chilly day. There's something so uplifting about sitting on Silver Strand by myself, just me and my beach. read more

My new favorite beach. No one was here and parking was easy. It's strange how the more north you go of Los Angeles, the less people visit the coastline. Parking is unlimited, easy and free on the Sundays. Beach was almost empty. The south jetty, is where people go fishing. I just found out about this hidden gem of a beach. Dogs go leashless here and without leashes and it seems to be fine as I saw several. Peaceful and feels remote and away from the city -- only 45 mins to one-hour away from the San Fernando Valley. I plan on visiting more often. read more

We rent a beach house for a week every year in June, so you can pretend you live on the beach. It's hit and miss with the June gloom, but the beach is always a hit. Friendly beach goers, good walking beach, sand dollars, sand crabs and lots of space on the beach, with parking at the north end and beach access all along Ocean Dr. There's also a walking path along the Channel Islands' Harbor mouth. It's fun to hang out on the deck or on the beach and watch giant container ships slip out of Port Hueneme, or sailboats at sunset heading back into Oxnard Harbor, and a great place to see the tall ships when they are in town. read more

Strand is my go to local beach to enjoy fun in the sun with friends. Not the best waves for surfing, but if you're lucky and patience enough you can catch some good ones for boogie boarding. In my opinion, this is the best beach between Santa Barbara and Santa Monica. Even on a busy and hot summer weekend, you can somehow find parking and a spot in the sand. I love the fact that you don't have to pay for parking.Great place to go running on the sand. Restroom on site. Also, my friends told me that there are POKEMON NEARBY! You can find anyone from families with their children to hoes basking in the sun! Make sure to check out Pepe's for some yummy tacos/burritos. This is my favorite beach. Located in Oxnard, it is one of the few Southern CA beaches that you can take your dog to. It has plenty of free parking and is not crowded! Plus after the beach you are in Oxnard and right next to Ventura both of which have a ton of good food and shopping options. Back to the beach. Being locate behind a collection of small beach houses gives the beach a secluded feel and I think it contributes to the beach not being so crowded. My dog loves playing in the ocean at this beach and its not crowded enough that I usually don't have to worry about him getting in any trouble. The rules are 6-9AM and 5-6PM dogs on the leash only, but this rule seems to be pretty flexible based on what I have seen at the beach. They have a surfing school that was pretty busy on a Friday morning in June and there are some families with children. I think most people still go further south for the So Cal beach experience. The weather in Oxnard is typically cooler than beaches further south, but for walking my dog on the beach it is just perfect. There is a good amount of free parking next to the beach and I have not had trouble finding parking on weekday mornings. I can imagine that it would get crowded on weekends later in the day. read more

Nice beach. I prefer coming here compared to the southern beaches like Huntington or Santa Monica. This place isn't so overly packed like those beaches or some of the other southern beaches. Maybe because it's colder here compared to the beaches down south but I'm ok with that. I actually like the cold ocean breeze. Plus they have some decent seafood restaurants near by. read more

There are three grades of beaches. 1 is a sandy beach without rocks adjacent to a sandy ocean without rocks and pebbles. 2 is a sandy beach and ocean with some rocks and pebbles but not many. Silver Strand is a 3, meaning it's a sandy beach but HUGE rocks in the ocean making swimming or even walking in it impossible. Even worse, Silver Strand is on the outskirts of Oxnard. If you're a boxer in training you'll love it. If not, it's a trashy town with few decent restaurants and nothing to offer except crime. read more

I love coming to this beach. It's always clean and calm. You can sit on the beach and watch the surfers and watch the boats come in and out of the harbor. I love coming down here to just sit and relax or go for a run, people are always friendly here! read more

I love this place. Parking is close and new updated bathrooms. Holiday weekends are a bit rough as the bathrooms are not kept clean or stocked during the day. Lifeguards on duty most days and on top of the waves and rip currents. There is also a small store in walking distance if needed. read more

Great size beach for the family. Summer months lifeguards are posted nearby to keep everyone safe. Two three restaurants and corner store are walking distance from beach which makes it nice to bring cook to order food or something you may of forgotten to the beach. read more

This is a wonderful treasure! Arrived early morning on a Saturday and spent an hour enjoying the very quiet beach. Dogs are allowed and off leash is okay until 9 a.m. Easy, free parking at 7:30 a.m., and plenty of space to enjoy the beach with my dog. This is my new fav little spot. Aside from the beautiful houses, gorgeous ocean view, and superb outlook of the harbor, at the end of the beach are these stunning graffiti walls that you have to see! I've been looking to buy a house here. A stretch of nice sandy beach, blue ocean. What else could you ask for.

We went 9am on a July morning and had the greatest time watching locals play volleyball, kids learn in lifeguard camp, and vacationers relaxing on the beach. Really a great atmosphere for a wide range of types. There was a lifeguard on duty starting about 10:30 and it wasn't even a packed day. The barrier of vacation houses between the beach and road really makes it a peaceful atmosphere, a haven from the hustle and bustle. read more

Took my dog there this weekend, and in the first 5 minutes stepped into oil tar, which completely ruined my shoes and a minute later my dog came back all covered in tar as well. It's like a minefield over there, don't even think of going there if you have a long hair dog or shoes that you care about. Had to shave my dog and throw away the shoes. read more

Besides the fact that I now want to move to this community and somehow buy a house on the beach I can't afford, i don't have a single negative thing to say about our visit to Silver Strand Beach. It was fanstic, easy to find parking and you felt like one of the locals as you slipped off your sandals and walked along the water. Everyone that you ran into was so friendly too. This place is not worth it.The traffic getting there was awful took almost 3 hours from Burbank.When we finally arrived there was no parking.We finally found a spot in front of the houses.We took our dog with us because we heard you could just let your dog run of leash.turns out dogs are not allowed between 9 and 5 and must be on a leash.The beach was ok really narrow (I'm used to Santa Monica) it was kinda depressing mostly due to the fog and when we got back to the car there was a $75.00 parking ticket. A great beach has been my home for over 40 years my only complaint is people pick up your dog poop on the beach nothing worse than taking a midnight stroll and stepping in a big pile and yes I blame the locals they let their dogs out to run on the beach and don't clean up after I'm not saying all of them but just enough to be a pain in the butt I'm sure everyone will agree also eat at the jetty surf café The food is 100% awesome and so is the service and great prices you will not leave hungry read more

Used to hang out here at a friends house while in high school - 20 years ago. The beaches were always empty; almost like private beaches. I came back over Memorial weekend for a day at the beach. I don't know if it was just the holiday or similar to a normal weekend; but it was so much busier than I could have ever imagined!! We didn't even stay as there was no parking and signs from the locals asking visitors to please drive slow as if their own kids lived here. Great beach to walk along or hangout on for the day! It's also a pleasant drive over a bridge from San Diego and is definitely worth the commute out there. It was kind of chilly when I went in February but I'm sure there are a lot of people out swimming the summer. There were some windsurfers and kites when I went there as there was great wind for those activities. read more

Unfortunately have lived (stuck) in this area for the last 5 years because of work , formerly from South Florida, absolutely dislike this area. Gloomy marine layer is atrocious , never warm enough , temp rarely goes above 70 .. probably 95 % of days year round high between 65 -70 degrees . A day above 75 is unusual , no summer to speak of definitely NOT beach weather to me. And the topper is the water is absolutely freezing, have to dress like a seal to even think about swimming for more than 2 min In fact , this is the standard environment for all SoCal beaches. Socal beaches the most over hyped , overrated beaches in the world. read more

I have always been a fan of the beach, which is why I doubt I could ever agree to move away from the coast. We were visiting a good friend in the area and she took us to this beach...a nice private beach that only the locals seemed to know about. The beach was a bit quiet, with some kids playing in the shallow waters, not too many seagulls begging or waiting for food. There were a couple lifeguards on duty. The parking only allowed for around 20 cars, which is pretty decent and would control the crowd. The parking is free, which is always a plus for me and most likely everyone. The one thing that probably was irritating was that the spaces were so compact that people were opening their doors and hitting others' cars with it...and never thought to apologize...the huge Suburban parked next to me had all its doors wide open with little regard for the fact that we were trying to leave so that one of the cars on the long line waiting for a spot could park. The wife quickly hid behind her husband and told him in Spanish that I was staring at them, waiting for them to move their ugly large door off of my poor little Camry's bumper. No apologies, just "Oh, it's just rubber." They are so lucky I had my son with us, or it would not have ended there. This was not the ending we had hoped for to an almost perfect day, but not the beautiful beach's fault, just the inconsiderate mood killers. I envy our friend for living literally down the street from this beach. read more

I got to be pregnant and walk silverstrand several times a day about 28 years ago. I loved living there until we became concerned about the pesticides dropped on our heads from un rinsed helicopters and the extremely low frequency testing that went on at the cb base or port hueneme....Still it is where I lived when carrying my daughter and for a year or so beyond. Glad to hear it is still uncrowded. read more
