This is a great spot for beginning surfers. My friends and I used to surf here often. Lately we have been surfing at County Line, but we are planning on coming back soon. This is a real nice place to surf. The break is gentle and rolls in and sometimes reforms, so it is great for longboards. The atmosphere and friendliness of local surfers here is better than anywhere else and this is a great beginner spot to surf; granted, it is up there and way up, just north of Ventura. It is worth the drive though and parking is free just off PCH next the railroad tracks. Be warned, you cannot park here prior to 7am. So if you are here for a dawn patrol be ready to move the car if the park rangers are ticketing. Also, during parts of the year, their are many rocks on entry and exit so booties can be a must here for beginning surfers. Also, the Yelp map for this location is slightly wrong. Keep driving NW (north on PCH) until you reach a distinct white bicycle set up as a memorial to a fallen rider/surfer and you have arrived. As far as the below reviews about the steep rocks, this is true but there is a concrete step like path down next to the chain link fence next to the 1st residential house at the beginning of this spot. Yesterday, my buddy and I drove up here for the first time and brought our stand up paddleboarrds. We've heard about this spot for a while and finally made it here. Parking is decent, depending on your timing, but cars come and go often. The toughest part is walking down the steep slope along jagged rocks, when carrying an 11'6" board. The other beach-goers are very friendly and even offered to help us carry the back of our boards, when we were walking up and down the steep path to the sand. The waves are mushy, which is great for newbies. Water was cooler than expected, but I'm spoiled by warm water in the South Bay and OC. Great family atmosphere and waves roll in smoothly. They were hard to catch, unless you're inside, but all in all, I really like this place. Wish it were closer to home. read more

We bring out 2 dogs here all of the time to go for a walk for us, and the dogs play and run like the wind. Best at low tide however since when the tide is high, a lot of the beach is under water. The leash law in Ventura County is that a leash is optional, unless otherwise posted. So a leach is not required. However, we always bring our pups on a leash and then let them run free once on the beach. If we see someone with their dog on a leash, we'll put ours on their leash presuming that they know their dog better than we do, and figure that perhaps their dog doesn't play well with others. read more

Great little beach, limited parking for sure. No restrooms. My dog Jedi (surfs) a local surf dog from Ventura county had a blast. The waves where much better here then Harbor Cove. I will advice that I did fall into some pot holes & stepped on rocks when going in (I forgot my booties). Overall a great beach. Will be going again for sure. read more

This is a great beach if you are learning to surf or teaching the kiddos to surf. You have to park across the street and hike the boards down the rocks but the waves are nice and roll in. They are good size for beginners and not great for an experienced surfer looking for excitement. Downside no bathrooms. watch the tide charts because the beach disappears when tide comes in. Also watch for some tar on the beach. read more

Mondos! The hidden gem of all surfing spots in the west coast. One of my favorite little spots, this is where it all started for me. I remember back in the day I used to bring my long board and spend 4 to 5 hours of surfing. Plus it doesn't get a crowded as the other spots and the ground is not as rocky as in Malibu. For the advance surfers look elsewhere, you may be jaded after two waves. The people that come are pretty laid back and friendly. None of the egotistical son's of *****s you see at Zuma. Or the Mad Max maniacs who try to knock you off your board. Sure I enjoy the occasional competition but I am getting too old of that crap. For a good morning surf, come here, don't expect 10 ft waves, this here I consider the bunny hill for newbies. For good parking come here no later than 7, otherwise you'll see yourself idling around for a bit. read more

Little hard to get to on the PCH, parking is a nightmare. Drive along the PCH from Ventura and you will see tons of ppl parking and surfers. There is parking along the train tracks, expect some walking if you get there weekend, warm weather, or late in the day. Only way to get there is to climb down rocks to the beach, very small beach as well, only about a quarter mile long, gets crowded fast. Its a small gap between 2 sets of homes. I mistook the first gap for the spot then I drove until I saw the actual parking area by the tracks. DIRECTLY across from that area is the beach. If you dont see that parking area in the dirt you arent there yet. Great for surfing, tons of waves, current isnt too brutal. If you are just looking to lay out, this probably is not the best beach for it, no room. read more

I'm still a beginning surfer so this was a great place to practice. And love that open containers are fine as well as the ability to bring our puppy. Feels almost like a secret beach even though it's right off the freeway--so laid back and not crowded. read more

Great surfing beach where longboarders get along with SUPs. Except for the hoale who has a chip on his shoulder about SUPs. Not a good beach to bring non surfers since there isn't much beach for them to sit on. Also, there are no facilities here. However, if you are looking for nice 2-3 footers to learn longboarding or SUP, it is the best in the area. Everyone there is cool with no attitude. read more

This is one of the best surf spots for beginners. It has a unique sand break that keeps the waves small and surf shops are close in Ventura for renting boards. Ask the shops for directions, but it's easy to find off of PCH between Solimar and Fairia Beach. Close to Ojai, which makes for another perfect day-trip. read more

There are leash laws on all beaches you cannot come to Mondo's or Faria beach and let your dogs run wild.! There is also a brand-new huge parking lot at the north end of the Pacific coast highway beach access to the beach below the Cliffhouse hotel no signage at this time just go straight all the way to the end and you'll be amazed or drive 101 to Seacliff offramp get off and go straight don't turn left under the freeway go straight and there is a huge parking lot with the tunnel that goes under the freeway let your dog play read more

Mondo's is an ideal spot for beginners, longboarders and Stand-Up Paddlers (in case you didn't know what SUP stood for in the other reviews). The waves are long and mellow and there is plenty of room for everyone. There is no locals only feel here as opposed to Silver Strand or Surfer's Point. Best of all, parking is free. read more

I've surfed here for about 6-7 some odd years. Great place, although I do not entirely agree with John S's comment about getting along with SUP's. Speaking for the group I surf with, which is normally there every weekend, we put up with SUP's-which doesn't necessarily mean we like them. And I think I have an idea on who the "haole with a chip on his shoulder" is; you just got to get to know the guy. Other than that, great place, nice people, just give respect if you want some back. awesome beginning surfing beach. walk down the rocks to find tons of longboarders, dogs frolicking about, folks having a brew or two. real laid-back except for the asshole paddle-boarders who cut me off all the time. don't even think of bringing a shortboard unless there's a gun-show under your rash-guard. read more

This is a great family beach. Clean, easy parking and open most days with little effort. Yes if you come on the weekend expect to have crowds and a harder time finding a spot to park. All in all We love to come here every monday night for a cook out with family and friends. read more

Place used to be better. Good chill spot especially for beginners. On big days like today you get the guys that can't hack C street and come to mondos and try beach bully crap. Also getting too many paddle boarders. SUP's stay the f*** home. read more
