Charming pier with a lot of history and I fell in love with it immediately and came here almost every single opportunity I had while I was in Ventura. I came jogging here and caught some great photos of sea gulls. I came several evenings to catch the gorgeous sunset, and been here mid day also to admire all the pelicans and birds flying and diving into the water. The scenery s breathtaking, with lots of breeze too. You see families here enjoying, some people are fishing, people exercising, lovers holding hands, people on dates, people on wheelchairs, people of all ages and walks of life here. There is food nearby right on the pier, so you can definitely check one of those places out. There's also a nice boardwalk here to stroll, people watch, bike, jog, etc. Parking is available nearby for a fee. If you're close enough, definitely walk here to take it all in. This pier is mesmerizing, come experience it!

This long pier, the oldest in the state of CA, provides a fun walk path if you're in the area. It's a great spot to stretch your legs and absorb a refreshing ocean breeze & sunshine. There is a nearby connecting concrete path, which can extend your walk/run for many miles. Also, there's a cute pop up coffee shop about a 5 minute walk away from the pier start, usually set up in front of the nearby hotel. (Note: I haven't tried the coffee yet, but it looks like a good, local shop.) Do be on guard watch for dogs unleashed, especially with your little ones. Unfortunately, some owners let their dogs run freely and it can get crowded on extra sunny days, adding to the bustle. Lastly, the pier is a great spot to showcase your fishing capabilities, if that's your thing. I've seen many fishermen on my visits, catching local favorites.

A Classic Coastal Landmark with Stunning Views & Unique Photo Ops Ventura Pier is one of California's most charming seaside spots--rich in history, packed with beauty, and full of that laid-back beach-town spirit. Originally built in 1872, it's among the oldest wooden piers on the West Coast, and it still feels timeless in the best way. Walking the pier offers sweeping views of the Pacific, the Channel Islands, surfers below, and mountains in the distance. Whether it's sunrise, sunset, or under moonlight, there are unique photo ops in every direction. You'll catch golden light filtering through the railings, crashing waves underneath, and maybe even dolphins if you're lucky. There's plenty of paid parking nearby, and it's easy to access the pier on foot from the beach promenade. Restaurants like Beach House Tacos and MadeWest Brewing make it easy to grab a bite or a drink with a view. Pro tip: The pier's surface is rough and weathered (which adds to its charm), but the gaps between boards and uneven planks can be tough for strollers or wheelchairs. Be sure to wear flat shoes, and definitely leave the heels in the car. Amenities include benches, clean restrooms, and informative signs about the pier's history and marine life. It connects directly to Surfers Point, San Buenaventura State Beach, and scenic bike paths for even more to explore. In summary: Ventura Pier is the kind of place that feels magical no matter how many times you visit. Come for the views, stay for the breeze, and don't forget your camera--and your comfy shoes.

There's something magical about Ventura Pier when the fog rolls in. Locals were still out fishing, bundled in hoodies and sharing laughs, while couples strolled hand in hand, disappearing and reappearing like ghosts in the fog. Ventura Pier on a foggy evening isn't about views--it's about vibe. And if you ever need to clear your head or soak in some quiet beauty, this is the place.

The Ventura Pier is a beautiful spot to visit during the day! Great ocean views, a relaxing breeze, and plenty of photo opportunities. Perfect for a peaceful stroll or just enjoying the coastal scenery.

This is a cool piece of history if you have the time to stop by and walk out on the pier! There's signs about the history and significance of the pier as you stroll along its length. The day I visited, the weather was quite windy and so there weren't a lot of fishermen or visitors, but the view was amazing. The wooden walkway of the pier is uneven, so it might be more tricky to navigate with a stroller or people in heels. After walking here and taking photos, enjoy the surrounding beaches if you have time. They are super clean and I saw people swimming. There is a bathroom at the beginning of the pier, but there's no soap provided in either the women's or men's room.

Beautiful large pier to walk and explore, near the Ferris wheel, decent seafood restaurants and plenty of fishing.

Wonderful day to pull over and get your feet wet. Not a lot of folks in and around the water today, so the kids had the entire beach to themselves ...practically. Ventura Beach provides an easy respite on the commute north. People were walking, biking, running, but overall they were all enjoying the sun and the outdoors. On a beautiful day, like today was, Ventura Beach provides amazing sounds and sights of the California Coast's flora and fauna. California State Parks takes care of its beaches. The Pier provides a beautiful backdrop and access to fish that keep farther out. It was fun and a great stop on our return trip to California.

The pier is sadly closed right after the 2 restaurants, but the cemented walkway to the right is nice for strolling, biking, meandering and the beach in front has a playground. Bathrooms are directly behind the structure. the beach to the left had lots of fun driftwood and rocks for kids to build and play with for older kids. A driftwood teeter totter looks like it has been there for awhile and hopefully no one destroys it!

This pier is okay as far as they go in SoCal, not much to see but it is the older wooden pier, you can't drive on it but accessible from stairs and then from the street if you have mobility issues. There is one restaurant on the pier and other than that nothing else besides locals fishing off the pier.

I used to come here for fishing. I had so much fun catching fish in 5 hooked line. There is only one food place though. Not much of a choice. And the restroom is kind of a walk too. It is a good place to get beautiful sunset pictures and hang out with friends. Parking lot is plenty though. The garage nearby or near the beach.

Ask the Community - Ventura Pier

Are dogs allowed on the pier?

Yup. They are also allowed on the beach to the right of the pier if you're facing the ocean. Take my pups there all the time. Just watch them because once in awhile there are dead seagulls and you don't want your dog rolling all over a corpse the… Read more

Is it easy to push a wheelchair?

There are gaps between the boards on the pier so the front tires of the wheelchair might not work very well. Plus it would be very bumpy for the passenger.

Is the pier open right now?

Yes I think so. Mask and social distancing is a must.

Anyone know if the piers of ventura county are open for fishing!!?

Yes. Keep social distancing and a mask

Are there any boat tours/rides that depart for the pier?

No, There's a restaurant and a casual taco place at the base of it. But no other businesses.

Is riding a bike permitted on the pier?

Nope. You're supposed to walk your bike on the pier, although you occasionally see people riding them.

Hi! Anyone know if you can rent fishing equipment at Ventura pier and a roundabout figure? Thanks!

There are no equipment rentals on the pier. Everyone brings their own gear. The pier does have sinks and bait cutting boards on it.

We boarded the boat and got rigged up. Then ducked down to the bunk room for a quick nap until we arrived at anacapa island. Made a few drifts looking for seabass, on halibut hit the deck along with some scattered white fish and other incidental catches. Ended up leaving the island and heading east in search of game fish. Captain Mike and the crew worked hard but we weren't able to find anyone seabass, halibut, or yellowtail that were willing to bite. Headed offshore for some shallow water rock fishing. Caught some nice sculpin. Then moved to deeper water after a few drifts in search of other species. Found some reds, occasionally, chuckle heads, and starrys. A few lingcod made their way onboard as well. We tried anchoring at anacapa for some more shots at game species. Several calico bass, most shorts but at least on keeper was in the bag. Pulled the hook and headed back to Ventura. Grabbed another nap after derigging my rods and reels. I fish a lot and was impressed with the whole operation at Ventura harbor Sportfishing from the reservation to handing out fosh filets after the trip. I'll be back an hopefully find the white seabass next time.

Drive here the evening before the fishing trip to get acquainted with the area. Initially, the guy didn't pay any attention to us or even acknowledge that we existed. Finally, he noticed us as we were about to walk out. We confirmed where we can park in the morning and best time to arrive. On the morning of the trip, we got there super early to check in and this guy was more attendtive than the one the previous evening. Showed our ID and Fishing License and waited til it was time to board the boat, the Pacific Eagle. I normally don't get seasick but on my last fishing trip, the waters were extremely rough and sure enough, my tummy wasn't feeling well. I didn't want to take any chances, so I put on some motion sickness patches behind my ear as a just in case. Good thing I did! Since it was going to be a few hours before arriving to our destination, we went down to the bunks to take a quick nap. When it was time to drop our lines, we did just that. we caught some Sculpin, White Fish, Calico Bass, Starrys, and a small lincod. Others caught Reds, a Sheephead, Halibut, Whitefish, Sculpins and Starrys as well. Captain Mike and the Crew were extremely helpful and patient with us. Doug was the chef of the day - makes a great breakfast sandwich. I wasn't hungry for lunch tho. I told him that he's an Asian Pro - cooking with them chopsticks! I do the same. LOL Our fishies were filleted and I kept a couple of my fishies whole, but also kept the skeletons just in case I wanted to make fish stock. All in all, a fun trip!

Allow me to open with a brief anecdote to illustrate the talent of Capt. Tucker:…read more On our last trip, in 5 ft. seas out of the northwest, and 20 knots of wind out of the northeast, Tucker held the boat over a reef in 320 ft. of water like we were sitting on anchor. To say this skipper and crew are outstanding is an understatement. After a lifetime of being on boats as both customer and crew, I can honestly tell you that the Mirage runs a high quality operation. Veteran deckhand Ryan and the whole crew are always, and I mean ALWAYS, Johnny on the spot if you need a fish gaffed, if you get a tangle, if you lose a rig and need it re-tied... Just amazing. The boat sleeps 24, and it's no foo foo pleasure cruise, but comfortable and a pretty good ride. A full galley with indoor seating, plenty of deck space, and double bait tank capacity makes this a great platform for overnight fishing to the outer islands. Little extras like keeping lingcod and other delicate fish in the ice water hold below decks for the trip, the positive and polite crew, and one of the most knowledgeable young skippers on the coast makes this my favorite boat for rockfishing. They simply find fish, and do everything they can to help you out them on the boat. These guys earn their tips and greatly appreciate the opportunity to truly work hard for you. Fish cleaning on the boat is professional and neat... Buck a fish, $2 for lingcod and other select bigguns. Ever get a whiff of rotting fish carcasses in your trash cans after a few days in the sun? Worth every penny and then some. Whether you're a veteran or a novice, this crew will take care of your fishing needs.
