Charming pier with a lot of history and I fell in love with it immediately and came here almost every single opportunity I had while I was in Ventura. I came jogging here and caught some great photos of sea gulls. I came several evenings to catch the gorgeous sunset, and been here mid day also to admire all the pelicans and birds flying and diving into the water. The scenery s breathtaking, with lots of breeze too. You see families here enjoying, some people are fishing, people exercising, lovers holding hands, people on dates, people on wheelchairs, people of all ages and walks of life here. There is food nearby right on the pier, so you can definitely check one of those places out. There's also a nice boardwalk here to stroll, people watch, bike, jog, etc. Parking is available nearby for a fee. If you're close enough, definitely walk here to take it all in. This pier is mesmerizing, come experience it!
This long pier, the oldest in the state of CA, provides a fun walk path if you're in the area. It's a great spot to stretch your legs and absorb a refreshing ocean breeze & sunshine. There is a nearby connecting concrete path, which can extend your walk/run for many miles. Also, there's a cute pop up coffee shop about a 5 minute walk away from the pier start, usually set up in front of the nearby hotel. (Note: I haven't tried the coffee yet, but it looks like a good, local shop.) Do be on guard watch for dogs unleashed, especially with your little ones. Unfortunately, some owners let their dogs run freely and it can get crowded on extra sunny days, adding to the bustle. Lastly, the pier is a great spot to showcase your fishing capabilities, if that's your thing. I've seen many fishermen on my visits, catching local favorites.

There's something magical about Ventura Pier when the fog rolls in. Locals were still out fishing, bundled in hoodies and sharing laughs, while couples strolled hand in hand, disappearing and reappearing like ghosts in the fog. Ventura Pier on a foggy evening isn't about views--it's about vibe. And if you ever need to clear your head or soak in some quiet beauty, this is the place.

The day I visited, the weather was quite windy and so there weren't a lot of fishermen or visitors, but the view was amazing. The wooden walkway of the pier is uneven, so it might be more tricky to navigate with a stroller or people in heels. After walking here and taking photos, enjoy the surrounding beaches if you have time. They are super clean and I saw people swimming. There is a bathroom at the beginning of the pier, but there's no soap provided in either the women's or men's room.
Wonderful day to pull over and get your feet wet. Not a lot of folks in and around the water today, so the kids had the entire beach to themselves ...practically. Ventura Beach provides an easy respite on the commute north. People were walking, biking, running, but overall they were all enjoying the sun and the outdoors. On a beautiful day, like today was, Ventura Beach provides amazing sounds and sights of the California Coast's flora and fauna. California State Parks takes care of its beaches. The Pier provides a beautiful backdrop and access to fish that keep farther out. It was fun and a great stop on our return trip to California.
The pier is sadly closed right after the 2 restaurants, but the cemented walkway to the right is nice for strolling, biking, meandering and the beach in front has a playground. Bathrooms are directly behind the structure. the beach to the left had lots of fun driftwood and rocks for kids to build and play with for older kids. A driftwood teeter totter looks like it has been there for awhile and hopefully no one destroys it!
This pier is okay as far as they go in SoCal, not much to see but it is the older wooden pier, you can't drive on it but accessible from stairs and then from the street if you have mobility issues. There is one restaurant on the pier and other than that nothing else besides locals fishing off the pier.
I used to come here for fishing. I had so much fun catching fish in 5 hooked line. There is only one food place though. Not much of a choice. And the restroom is kind of a walk too. It is a good place to get beautiful sunset pictures and hang out with friends. Parking lot is plenty though. The garage nearby or near the beach.
I visited there two days after that Ventura-to-Barstow CHP chase, where a Subaru drove 200 miles in two hours while being pursued by the CHP the entire way. Even NBC 7's helicopter eventually ran out of fuel while trying to film the event! It took me almost an hour in the morning to drive from Pasadena to Ventura Beach. I set the GPS to navigate to the pier, where there is a garage nearby. I drove in and found it completely unattended; the fee booth was empty. After driving around inside, I found an outdoor parking lot that was even closer to the pier. There was no one at the entrance, likely because it is the "off-season." It was less than 20 meters from the parking lot to the wooden steps of the pier. There were fewer than 20 people on the pier that morning, even though it was nearly 8:00 AM. The restaurant wasn't open yet, and they likely don't open during this time of year. Walking on the pier is very peaceful, even if the sound of the sea is quite loud. The public restrooms were clean as well. It is a wonderful break to have on the drive from Los Angeles to San Jose. My recommendation: go there early during the quiet season. read more

So beautiful! The pier was well maintained and there there wasn't a crowd. The weather was absolutely perfect, giving a good view far out into the water. Really glad I made the time to walk along here and I would come back! read more
We stopped by for a morning walk on the oldest pier in California. It was a gorgeous Sunday morning and the walk along with the views felt relaxing. The end of the pier had a lot of people fishing combined with some homeless people and after taking some pics and watching the surfers, we walked back. I noticed some picnic benches on the pier and a seafood spot to eat as well. If you're visiting by car to visit the pier for a quick stop. Do not park in the $10 flat rate parking lot. Just one the other side, there's a parking structure along with outdoor adjacent pier parking for way cheaper. We paid $2 for about 45 mins. Overall, cool to visit. But, the amount of homeless people hanging out around the bathrooms and pier area was a bit much. read more

One of my favorite places to be in the whole wide world. Love Chumash beaches, oceans, and peoples. This pier is especially amazing because you can walk all along the ocean on a bike friendly and pedestrian friendly walk way. The pier allows you to see out and Channel Islands are viewable on a clear day. Love the ocean breeze on my face. Always clean beaches since dogs are not allowed on the beach, however, dogs allowed on walkways and pier cut outs on sand. I love how more accessibility wheel chair and cane and mobility scooter and mobility aids friendly beach cut outs are being installed so all people can enjoy the beach and ocean waters. Thank you thank you to all those who keep our Chumash oceans beautiful. read more

Fun walk, busy pier, great people watching and fishing looks fun. Areas on each bench to clean your fish. I loved watching the surfers, looking and listening to the crashing waves. It's hypnotic and relaxing. The walk way is wood, and well-maintained but it has splinters and is uneven. A baby buggy can make it but make sure everyone has shoes or sandals. read more

We stayed at the Ventura Beach Marriott last weekend and this historic landmark pier came into view daily on our drive to and from downtown. We could not figure out how to access it by car. On our last day, en route back to the hotel we decided to give a final try, following Google direction. Our fault we could find parking. On this windy, cold morning, the pier looked bleak and desolate. Our enthusiastic desire to take a long stroll on the old wooden pier quickly dissipated. A disappointment. read more
When visiting Ventura, this pier is a must visit place. This gives you a beautiful view of the beach and a place to eat and drink while enjoying the ocean view and the breeze. With temperatures over 110F in the inland areas in LA, it's quite a relief to come out here to feel the ocean breeze brushing over your face. The pier is long and crowded but very one seemed to observe safety measures by wearing masks. There's only one restaurant on the pier and the line looked very long. The walk on the pier was very pleasant with the temperature's around 70F. From the pier, you can watch people swim in the ocean. The water's kind of dirty but people don't mind and seemed to having a good time. For parking, there is public parking structure next to the pier for $10. If you eat there and stay less than 2 hours, there is no charge. read more
This is a very simple pier located in Ventura County. Great for fisherman and people looking for a slower pace activity for the day. You won't find ferris wheels and large crowds, but you will find peaceful breezes and great views along this sleepy town. I parked at the State beach lot. Parking is $10 ($5 if you have a State access disability pass). There is also a structure parking lot to the north of the pier (May or may not be cheaper) that I didn't think was part of the pier parking when I drove by... But it is. Signage was a little confusing for me. There is a nice playground on the side of the pier on the beach. And a few restaurants and small shops at the beginning. We went on 9/11 and the pier was lined with American flags and at the end there was a large flag flying at half mass for the remembrance of our fallen. The beach is small in comparison to say Santa Monica, but it made for some fun playtime for my granddaughter. Bathrooms are up on the pier and were clean however there was no working shower for her to rinse off. Even the bathroom at the State Park was out of order and the bathrooms were scary dirty. I ended up sticking her in the sink just too get some of the sand off. (Mind you we didn't plan on stopping at the beach so I wasn't prepared to have a wet, sandy toddler). Overall though we had a nice free hours running with the waves and watching the fisherman along the pier. read more
The Ventura pier is a little gem. If you are looking to relax and catch the sunset come to the Ventura pier. If you are hungry try out the brewery or the beach house fish restaurant. Fresh fish is always available at the Ventura pier. If you enjoy fishing come to the pier and take a walk down the pier. With so many places to cast a rod from, and fresh fish that take a bite of live bait. The bathrooms available are dirty. So bring sanitizer and your own toilet paper. If you need to park your vehicle they have a public parking garage for vehicles 6'6 and you have to pay for parking. This place is great for a day trip. read more
Wonderful location to catch a wave or a beautiful sunset. Stopped here for a quick break on our drive home to catch the sunset. There were still plenty of surfers ripping it despite the darkening skies. There are several restarants and food stands on and near the pier as well as bike shops. read more

Currently under repair so the vast majority of the pier is closed. Not a lot going on around the pier... a few restaurants that don't seem all that impressive, a couple of hotels... a playground. The public outdoor parking lot is $10 - and that's probably a good deal ONLY if you intend on spending the entire day there (doing what, I have no idea). There is a garage right down the street that is $2 an hour and is free with validation from some of the nearby restaurants. That's your best bet if you're there to just look around for a bit. It's a nice spot to walk around, take in the beautiful scenery and relax. I don't see it as a "spend the day destination", but good for a leisurely stroll. read more

You CANNOT visit Ventura and NOT take a walk down this pier. it is the most beautiful, relaxing time you can spend here. Gorgeous views, free, and the water sounds are incredible. Don't miss this. read more
A California icon, most locals have great childhood memories of walking the pier. The pier has never been better, with benches and an amazing view of Ventura and the islands from the end. Eric Ericsson's and Beach Taco House are great finales to your stroll. The beach below is another bonus-clean, nice sand at low tide, and a popular playground, next to the local favorite promenade. November 2013- a dolphin pod put on a show in the waters near the pier at sunset-magical moment with the islands on the horizon. read more
Ventura Pier opened the door to the Pacific Ocean and grew my sense of faith towards the future. Located right off the 101 Freeway, the Ventura Pier is an iconic symbol of the city's beauty and diverse history. Deemed as a coastline favorite, this attraction has a very low key feeling with visitors enjoying the sunny skies along the soft SoCal sand. The wooden pier stands above the ocean with breathtaking views. On the open pier, you can enjoy fishing (with external sinks), strolls to catch a glimpse of the Channel Islands or sunset, pack a picnic or simply take in the fresh air and be mindful of that moment. Benches are available along the railings to sit and relax. The paid parking ($2/hour) can be accessed from the parking structure and I would assume this place has heavy traffic during the weekends and summer. There are a couple restaurants at the beginning of the pier if you're looking to grab a bite. The cool ocean breeze was so therapeutic and tranquil. On my premier visit, this pier whispered to me and suggested to let my heart open up to life's uncertainties. Overall, this pier has a bubbly characteristic yet an old Ventura feeling which you can appreciate year round. read more

Is it easy to push a wheelchair?
There are gaps between the boards on the pier so the front tires of the wheelchair might not work very well. Plus it would be very bumpy for the passenger.
Is the pier open right now?
Yes I think so. Mask and social distancing is a must.

No, There's a restaurant and a casual taco place at the base of it. But no other businesses.
Is riding a bike permitted on the pier?
Nope. You're supposed to walk your bike on the pier, although you occasionally see people riding them.

There are no equipment rentals on the pier. Everyone brings their own gear. The pier does have sinks and bait cutting boards on it.
