Just got off the boat yesterday. A great boat and great crew. Been on the boat many times. Definitely will be back out again on it.

Allow me to open with a brief anecdote to illustrate the talent of Capt. Tucker: On our last trip, in 5 ft. seas out of the northwest, and 20 knots of wind out of the northeast, Tucker held the boat over a reef in 320 ft. of water like we were sitting on anchor. To say this skipper and crew are outstanding is an understatement. After a lifetime of being on boats as both customer and crew, I can honestly tell you that the Mirage runs a high quality operation. Veteran deckhand Ryan and the whole crew are always, and I mean ALWAYS, Johnny on the spot if you need a fish gaffed, if you get a tangle, if you lose a rig and need it re-tied... Just amazing. The boat sleeps 24, and it's no foo foo pleasure cruise, but comfortable and a pretty good ride. A full galley with indoor seating, plenty of deck space, and double bait tank capacity makes this a great platform for overnight fishing to the outer islands. Little extras like keeping lingcod and other delicate fish in the ice water hold below decks for the trip, the positive and polite crew, and one of the most knowledgeable young skippers on the coast makes this my favorite boat for rockfishing. They simply find fish, and do everything they can to help you out them on the boat. These guys earn their tips and greatly appreciate the opportunity to truly work hard for you. Fish cleaning on the boat is professional and neat... Buck a fish, $2 for lingcod and other select bigguns. Ever get a whiff of rotting fish carcasses in your trash cans after a few days in the sun? I have fished only twice on this boat. I have found the Captain and Crew to be very knowledgeable, professional and hard working. On the first trip I caught a 45 lb White Sea Bass... Jackpot! On the second I caught a 35 lb Yellowtail, but lost the jackpot to a 55 lb Halibut. My suggestion is to do exactly what and how they tell you to do and FISH THE BOW!!! ***NOTE*** 1). The Captain and Crew cannot control if the fish bite or not: no butt hurt feelings because I did not get what I believed I was entitled to. 2). Two reviews and both very negative; Not believable. 2). So besides having an excellent time as always on the Mirage fishing boat , this last time I went I left a very nice reel and brand new pole on the boat . Thanks to the crew and Erin in main office they secured it for me , it even looked washed and cleaned , unheard of ! Once again though the captain and crew are awesome. read more

Me and my friend was invited to overnight fishing with mirage on june 30th to july 1st. This was our first time fishing out to the sea, We both have little to none fishing experiences. The crew members goes above and beyond to make sure their guest are having fun. Me and my friend are spoiled by the crew hahah shout out to "LARRY and ALEX". All of crews are really friendly, helpful, make sure no one comes home empty handed. All i can say is this, if i ever get a chance to fish again, i would love to go with the mirage again. Best Fishing boat in all of Ventura County!

Probably the best sport fishing boat operation in its class north of San Diego. They specialize in fishing the Channel islands for rockfish, lingcod, halibut and white sea bass. Like the finest restaurants who serve great food they must also have great service . For a sport fishing boat they must catch fish, and have great customer service as well. The Mirage and crew are excellent at both, and they consistently catch fish. First they (Capt. Tucker for us) always puts you on the fish... they know the spots was well as whats working. The galley (Andrew) has top quality burgers and breakfast items ..... not like most boats with average food. The deckhands (Ryan and Shane) are always there to help .... tangles are freed , fish are gaffed fast, and they always work hard with a smile! I cannot tell you how important that is on a fishing trip !!! Thats the reason why they are chartered 90% of the time ..... If you can charter the boat or get on a trip you will not be sorry!! Be sure to tip the crew 20% + like you would a nice dinner !! ..... really they work harder . My very first ocean fishing trip was on the Mirage last year (Fall 2016). I have fished in several lakes over the years, but this was different, so needless to say I was a novice. Trying to figure out how to sleep on a moving boat...that was an experience all in its self. Haha! The crew and captain were great! They were so understanding with the fact I had no idea with what I was doing and on limited sleep. They helped me set up my gear, showed me how to hook my bait (so I wouldn't keep loosing it) and they took the time to help me learn. Even the experienced passengers would step in and help....I was just trying to stay out of their way b/c I didn't want them to loose their catch as I was learning. The Captain even gave me some pointers and from then on, every time my line went in the water I got a fish...or two! It was easier then fishing on the lake! I had such a great time, I went back a few more times before the season was up! Captain Ryan, Ryan, Chase, Larry, Blair and Alex...they were all so great!! Thank you for the great first experience! The crew makes the trip! This is the only boat we'll ever charter because it's such a great experience. It starts with Erin when you call to book the reservation, she's amazing the first year we went out on my husbands birthday. Erin was so thoughtful she had a cake on the boat for him it was really an amazing touch. Then the trip itself an amazing captain Tucker has always kept us on reeling up fish until are arms are tired. Then the cook making up amazing food & finally Ryan a super helpful deck hand that has been on each of our charters. He makes sure everyone is catching fish & having fun. This year we also had Chase who was right aside Ryan & made this year better than last. We've fished from Dana Point to Santa Barbara & nothing comes close to the amount of fun we have on the Mirage. read more

I have been on a few boats . I went out for a over night trip on the Mirage . WOW , what a crew . I have to admit that these guy's got it down. They catered to everyone on the boat any way they could . They were hospitable and a galley to accommodate. Tucker put us o the fish and kept us on the fish through out our time to fish . Cool boat. A bit small and cramped but its all about the fishing. You can't bring your own cooler. They have drinks and hot food for sale at a profit price, but its very good. Deck hands were very helpful with tying up rigs and grabbing your fish. The captain made an effort to put you on fish. Only thing, the crew was kinda hogging the squid that WE customers all caught in the morning, saving it for the next customers, that was not entirely cool. It was disappointing how they all threw their cigarette butts into the water too, not cool either. read more

Going off our trip on Mother's Day fishing trip!! Mr sang Kim left out a few facts about him and his party of fishermen.they showed up about an hour and a half before the boat left.and we showed up 4 hours early to get a decent bunks,right before the boat left,one of mr sang Kim buddies walked to the front of the line with a bunch of jackets with another woman,and we're going to rush the boat when it was to time to go down.I,myself and five or six other fishermen seen what was happening because he was about number 20 in line.myself and the other guys at the very front of the line made him go to the back of the line,he was angry.when we got on the boat,and the guys in front and behind us took the spots on the bunks,mr sung and his gang proceeded to moving all their gear off the bunks,and we saw what was going on,we told them that they were saved with gear on the foot of the bunks,they took apon them self to put all the stuff on the bunks,and removed the other gear.The next morning at 4:30,I and my husband 8-10 other people put their rods at the rail to fish for the day,early bird catches the worm,they woke up about 20 mins before our first drift for the day,it was 16oz sinkers and a fast drift,the skipper says spread out there is plenty of room toward the front of the boat,mr sang Kim and his party of 6 fished on the stern,you don't fish the stern.they choose to fish the stern with jigs they thought they were going to push my husband out of the corner,and when my husband went to go get bait,they tried to move his pole out of their way to fish were my husband was fishing,mind you I was right there.,and then sang Kim elbowed me with his pole when I told him no,and proceeded to put my husbands pole back were we have been fishing the whole time,these people were very rude,they like fishing on your elbow to elbow,they were told to spread out but they did not want to listen,there were trying to muscle there way in,we both exchange words,I put him in his place,it seems to me that sang Kim is use to treating woman like crape,from the night before sang Kim was rude and obnoxious,we all know his type.The captain and the crew are five star crew,as for the boat,you couldn't and better,they know where the big reds are,and the big lingcodes are.and we all had limits of both.as form sang Kim,if anybody was threaten it was me,but I stood my ground,you looked like you wanted to hit me just because you wanted our spots.here's a tip for you sang Kim,get there 4 hours early,instead of trying to steal bunks and spots..we hope not to see you again... read more
