We went on the Estella on 04/18/2026, it was the best experience ever. 1st timers, Chris the owner of Estella super nice and answered our questions. Selena, great person, awesome cook, hamburgers tasty, Max & Charlie crew dudes hustling helping us all throughout the entire trip. I hope I got all the names right. Definitely going back! read more

This review is specifically for the Coroloma Sports fishing crew. I went on a local 3/4 day on 09/13/2026 along with my father and my cousin. For the most part, the experience was quite nice, the crew was very friendly and accommodating and we had a great day of fishing overall. Heres the thing, we only came home with 19 rockfish. Between the 3 of us, we had caught way over the limit of rockfish as it was a wide open bite. We had given away a lot of fish even before we had finished fishing for the day. As you can see in the photos below, we still had a lot of excess, in which we picked out the 10 fish that we want for each person and give the rest away to the deckhands for them to distribute to the people that didn't catch a limit. As you can see in the photos, there are a couple of flag rockfish, a few speckled(bolina) rockfish, some chilipeppers and a couple of other misc rockfish that we had caught, only to find that when we went home with our fish, not only were our other variety of rockfish missing, we were short 11 rockfish and were left with mostly Salmon Groupers. We at least had some of our bigger catches. This situation had turned our otherwise great experience to 50/50. I will give the Coroloma another chance and will personally speak with the deckhands and captain in the future in hopes that this will be a one time mistake. read more

Probably one of the most frustrating and disappointing charter experiences I've ever had--and I say that as someone who understands fishing doesn't always go your way. We spent 3.5 hours on the boat before a single line even hit the water. After finally starting, we fished for about 30 minutes, only to pack up again and spend another 1.5 hours cruising to a different spot near an oil rig. Yes, the fishing improved there--but by then, most of the trip had already been wasted just moving around. On what's supposed to be a ¾-day trip, we spent roughly 5.5 hours doing nothing but traveling, dealing with tangled lines, and waiting. That's not "a slow day of fishing"--that's poor planning and inexperience. It was openly stated this was a new crew, including the captain, and unfortunately, it showed. To be fair, the deckhand was great--helpful and professional. But that couldn't make up for everything else. What really crossed the line for me was the environment on board. At one point, another angler yelled at my son, blaming him for a tangled line--only for it to be proven it wasn't even his fault. That should never happen, especially on a trip where families and kids are present. Completely unacceptable. Then, when we picked up our catch, we were given more fish than we actually caught. I understand sharing when limits are reached--but this felt off, like we were handed someone else's hard-earned catch. That takes away from the whole experience. At the end of the day, the low price makes sense--you truly get what you pay for. But I'd rather spend a little more for a well-run, respectful, and enjoyable trip than deal with chaos, wasted time, and a hostile environment. If you're considering this charter--especially if you have kids--I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. I've gone out with Ciscos Sportfishing multiple times, and they have never let me down. Professional crews, organized trips, and a much more family-friendly atmosphere. Save yourself the frustration. Go with a crew that knows what they're doing and actually values your time and experience. Date of trip: 4/4/26 Boat: Coroloma read more

I went on the coraloma for the 3/4 day trip on 4/4/26. It was pretty much a long boat ride with really crappy fishing. Opener of rockfish all depths with manny possibilities to fish shallow waters, they insisted in fiahing around 500 feet deep. We were on a boat ride for over 2 hours at 9 knots the whole way before even getting a line in the water. Every re positioning of the boat was about 20 minutes which I know was bull because I could see on my hand held havionics they were just making a big circle and bringing us back to the same location. The crew was nice as far as communicating; but there were quite a few things I found unprofessional. Not to mention at the end of the trip, on the way back I just rode inside the galley and when we got to port I noticed all of the better quality fish I had were missing from my bag, and I found fish in my bag that were agit fish I had not even caught!! I have been to many different charters and I have to say this was by far the worst I ever went on. I would NEVER go to them again!!!! If I could give less than one start I would!!! read more

I really can't see how anyone gave them less than 5 stars after our trip yesterday. We took my father in law for a 1/2 day deep sea fishing trip for his birthday and he had a blast. The captain, deck hands and staff were absolutely amazing. We're beginners and they really took the time to help us feel confident in our efforts. Replacing many lost anchor weights and hooks along the way. I have to also give a shout out to the female cook who griddled up some solid burgers, melts and burritos out at sea, enduring the heat in the galley. Huge thanks to everyone at Hook's and we'll see you all again very soon! read more

This business is horrible! They do not deliver what is promised, cancelled one trip, then cancelled another. They took almost two months to send a refund after multiple calls and misspelled the name and the check AND the check was for a lower amount than paid! They don't care to run an honest business and definitely don't care about their customers, except for taking their money. read more

Let's start my review with communication with hooks landing, I called and told them 2 days before the private charter that we wanted to go for halibut, Seabass and then we could finish the day with rockfish. They said ok no problem. We arrive at hooks landing and rented about 22 fishing poles, they are all garbage and froze multiple times. We get on the Coroloma and first thing I do is go see the captain Steve, and told him that we wanted to go for halibut and Seabass mind you we paid for the Boat. He proceeds to tell me that the bait boat has been closed for a couple of days which I called BS and that we have no live bait that will be fishing with squid all day for rockfish. WTF? That is not what I just paid over $4000 for. Not very happy we continue on our way to catch nothing but 80% of the fish were about 6 to 10 inches long with a few sheepshead and white fish. Then at about 12:30 they bring out the table for cleaning the fish and just leave us anchored catching baby fish that we already caught our limit on so they're tossing them back in the water and we finally said something to them about moving. The captain snaps back, moved us to do basically the same bullshit. A lot of the time I found myself looking for a deckhand to take my fish off even though I can do it I'm paying them to, so I didn't bring any needle nose. I will no longer be fishing with this company. I feel like they wanted the money gave us a rock fish day, and no live bait. 2 thumbs Down read more

Super unhappy overall. They refused us live bait, one guy said the bait boat was broke another guy said their bait tank wasn't working (it was working just fine). The captain just told us he wasn't getting any and didn't want to go for halibut. Deck hands had an attitude the first half the day, started being nice closer to tip time. They tried to overcharge us at check out by $400 or so. Guy kept telling me that 5% charge for credit card on $1350 made it $1750 or so. I showed him the math, he pretended to grab a phone and ask if he can waive the fee and then said they told him no and I better pay it. That kid really got me fired up. They tried to keep our fish jackpot money and had an attitude when we brought it up. Captain left is sitting on a dead spot with lines in the water as he started cleaning fish. I told him we still had an hour and a half and that we didn't want to sit watching him, he had an attitude and told me fish had to be cleaned so we can chill. I reminded him that deck hands clean fish on the way back and that we paid to fish, not watch him. He eventually got back on it and set us on a couple more spots. I wouldn't recommend them, definitely don't drink too much as they plan on taking advantage of you if they can. read more

George the deckhand on the Coroloma this weekend was fabulous. Super helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Hope to see him everytime! You don't have to know anything about fishing to go on these boats. The crew will help you with everything. read more

I was asking the blonde female employee about anchovies and the first words out of her mouth are "...hold on" as she's texting on her phone. The second question I asked, she didn't even responded because of her texting. I put the bait back and walked out. She finally zoned back in and I heard her say "huh" after I was gone haha This was around 11:15am read more

So my review actually is more like 3.5 stars...and not for a lack of fish, which by the way we are still enjoying. It's also not that we will not on another charter, we may. Its forgone reason only....LACK OF INFORMATION, REGARDING EXTRA COSTS. We paid $320 for a 1/2 day of fishing for 4. We knew there would be a $15 charge for renting a pole...ok $60 more bucks...were up to $380. Ok. But then what we were not made aware of when calling, nor is it listed anywhere on the website was that you also had to rent the tackle, pay for them to process the fish, no expeditions, and we caught lots of fish, cha ching. Then since you were not allowed to bring your own food, comes the cost of food. Plus oh yeah the fishing licences, that wasnt too surprising, but $20 for a half day??? So here comes another almost $220 worth of up charges that no one informed us about. Not even on the email confirming the reservation. Now we did have great day of fishing...some awesome fish were caught and while yes that made things better...it doesnt excuse the company from not being as transparent as they should be so you know what needs to be budgeted. It's just courteous and good business practice. read more

Since I never got to talk to the owner, I hope you are reading it and will be able to contact me so I can express my frustration with the way your company operates. First of all I was promised by Veronica that if I buy 12 tickets we will have boat to ourselves. This was a lie, When we got 12 tickets, they said they are not going to do what Veronica promised because she is a new employee. We ended up having others on the boat, nice guys but not what we were told by Veronica. I asked 5 different times to have the owner call me, but he has gone missing. The next day we came to go out in the ocean and purchased a lot of extra accessories. We were promised returns would be accepted back whatever we didn't use. When we got back, the male salesman rudely told us that he's not accepting it back and kicked us out and said do not come back to our place again. I am an immigrant and he seemed to be very racist, bothered by my accent. On the boat we were charged for everything and sadly overcharged for little things. We really enjoyed fishing because friends got together and enjoyed each other and the nature , but this company is a pure fraud and if the owner is reading it, please call me so I can express to you how pathetic open operation you have. I hope this company changes management and starts respecting customers instead of telling them "we are the cheapest, you won't have any other option but come back to us" NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Best fishing and best with Captain Chris! Family owned, clean and makes you feel safe during these times

Hook's Landing, they've been around a long time they used to own the boat Aquarius in Malibu Pier. I fish offen there at least three or four times a year on the Coroloma, only thing is they now only have one Boat running now and that's the coroloma oh, they used to have the new Hustler but it comes and goes. Then they used to also have a half-day boat but not anymore. I do recommend going, there staff is friendly the deck hand are cool and friendly and helpful. They'll take you where the fish are, the captain is knowledgeable and the rates are affordable. So give them a try you got nothing to lose they also have in the boat a Galley to eat order food. read more

Great experience!! We were total beginners and the crew was incredibly friendly, knowledge, and patient for all of our beginner questions as we learned how to fish. We had so much fun and caught our limit of rock fish. I was really impressed by how courtous and helpful everyone was. The only disappointing thing was the Groupon was misleading as it was not a discount from the normal price and when I understood that the price was all inclusive. We ended up having to rent everything extra. Still great experience!!! read more

I had high expectations for my first sport fishing trip and these guys delivered! The captain and deckhands were on the ball all day long, they were helpful, informative, and right there when you needed an extra hand. The food in the galley looked excellent and the prices for meals, drinks, rentals, and tackle were completely affordable. Between my brother and I we landed 5 barracuda and 24 rockfish, whitefish, and bass. I've already booked my next trip, this crew earned a lifelong customer! I booked and paid for a birthday trip for myself and a few friends on the endeavor. took the last spots on the vessel. Just got a call form the landing that we got booted off because they chartered the boat. No options offered other than move the date or refund. Can't move it to another day as we all work during the week. No other boats available. Horrible business practices. Don't offer up reservations that far in advance if you're not going to honor them. read more

For the first time, I wish there was a ZERO STARS option I wanted to check out the landings in Ventura after mostly fishing in L.A. and got the Groupon deal for a full day with rod rental & tackle. I have my own, but only having to take a few spare rod/reels is helpful. I called a few days ahead and they told me there might not be enough for the full day I paid for. Sure enough, yesterday they said my reservation for the New Bluefin had been transferred to the Coroloma for 2 hrs less, "But it's to the same spot for almost the same amount of time." No offers of any partial refund, extra tackle or even galley voucher. We decided instead of asking Groupon to refund it, we'd go anyways and see if we could get a discount for a friend who wanted to go but didn't have the Groupon. So we drive the hour up to Oxnard. Good luck finding this place at 5 in the morning - there is no signage. As I came in, the boat's captain was complaining about the Groupons and I thought "this ain't good." When I put my two Groupons on the counter he tells me I can only use one a day. At first I thought I had screwed up and missed the fine print, but as we both look at it all that is on the print out is "Limit 2 per person." Well, we had two. But he won;t take it. He keeps repeating over and over that it was a bad deal for him to do the Groupon promotion and that he just breaks even on it. "It's not worth it for me to do it just for the gas money," etc he keeps saying. I go back to my friends and they of course are as astounded as I am. We have brought him a 3rd person they point out. So I go back to make sure he realizes this. No, he just keeps repeating the thing about how he is losing money and wishes he had never done the Groupon. At this point I don't want to be on this jerk's boat because I know we're going to be ones he resents. I felt sorry for his crew - judging by the catches this week he probably cost them $45-60 in tips (you pay $1 per fish in fishing cleaning tips). I have my own business so I know this guy is in the wrong: if you make a bad deal you live with it (I have had to) and you risk the amount of bad PR this will cost him. "A satisfied customer will tell at least one friend, a dissatisfied one will tell TEN." We got back in time to go out for half a day because our buddy had already bought a 1 day license (Marina Del Rey Sportfishing - $40 for 1/2 day and one of the best crews out there, see my review for them). Plus, we re-told our tale to at least 15 fellow anglers - including one who's boyfriend owns a local tackle shop. Sometimes karma is a very fast biatch. read more

I cant give a good review regard the whole experience. But I can say that so far my experience has been so terrible. We have been canceled on 2 time in a row and they called late last minute each time to cancel, which was extremely frustrating because we are driving a distance to do the trip and have been planning it all day with meal prep and so on. We have a decent size party that was excited for the trip and basically if the boat doesn't book enough people you will get canceled on. Maybe that's the advantage of going somewhere more popular. We wont re book with this company. It may be a little more money with other places but at leaste you are guaranteed a trip. read more

My girl friend and I have tried 3 times to setup and trip with them. Reservations were made, but they cancelled on us on the day of the trip. WTF They made excuses like, the boat changed it's trip to something else, or the weather is bad. For you Groupon buyers, Hook's ignores groupon customers. They ruined 3 weekends for us. We've given up on trying. read more

My mom and I have been fishing with these guys for years! The captain and the crew are amazing and they are super friendly and very helpful. I wasn't gonna write a review but my sister and friends are getting the deals update from Living Social for Coroloma boat and keeps forwarding it to me. I decided to write the review so people don't bother going on this boat without a jug of water towed behind them. This is my first time on a fishing boat. I got the Groupon deal for my husband and my son and I tagged along. Maybe I'm used to diving boats with showers on them. But I'm not even asking for a shower, I'm just asking for a sink to wash my hands. Ten hours on this boat and for sure you'll end up peeing.... No sink in the bathroom.... You'll have breakfast, lunch and snacks here and there... No sink to wash your hands off the fish scales and blood... When I asked the boat cook she said she has a sink but can't let us use it for insurance purposes. We ended up buying a $2 bottled water so we can wash our hands. I'm sorry but a hand sanitizer won't do the trick! But I also want to let everyone know that the crew had been great to us. Since this is our first time fishing they helped us putting our fishing pole together. The crew are the reason they have 2 stars instead of zero stars! read more

Unlike some other reviewers, I had the absolute best fishing experience on the New Bluefin in early December. We did another groupon fishing boat in Newport, and there the staff made us feel stupid for being non-professional, were not helpful, and overcrowded the boat. The experience with Hook's Landing on the New Bluefin was the exact opposite--it was PERFECT. The crew were genuinely kind and caring people, doing what they love, and helping newbies like me and my friends come to really appreciate deep sea fishing. I'd never caught a fish in my life before today (and I've gone fishing a decent amount), and with the crew's help, I caught 8!!! That's ridiculous!! And they were big! Each of my friends went home with at least 7 fish, as did everyone else on our boat. The boat itself was nice. The galley was a little small, but it kept us outside enjoying the ocean air and perfect day, rather than sitting inside. There's a little rest area below as well, and a toilet on deck. Perfectly good accomodations. Like I mentioned before, the crew just ROCKS!! Everyone was so helpful, so genuine, and so awesome! I really felt like I learned a lot about fishing and just had the time of my life. Each of my friends, who also was on a groupon, vowed we would totally come back full price, it was so fun! The food was very good. Bacon cheeseburgers made to order, sausage breakfast burritos, egg and ham sandwiches, all cooked on a tiny camping grill!! This is serious stuff! And the coffee!! Man, it's just instant coffee, but that coffe made our day! Rods are good, better than others we've tried at different places. And best part, they will filet the fish for you for $1/fish. So instead of going home with a freezer full of fish you wont know what to do with, you get perfectly filetted, fresh, self-caught fish ready to butter up and pan fry into deliciousness! This day seriously could not have gotten any better! Will definitely be back. Tip: Bring cash for tips for the crew (they bust a$$ for you!), food purchases, and fish filleting. read more

Awesome trip, awesome staff and super tasty fishies. Awesome deal through Groupon. I've never gone fishing before so I didn't know what to expect, and the reviews on here were a little mixed. One reviewer complained about the boat not having a good sink to wash her hands. OK, really? I can understand the need for cleanliness, but you're on a fishing trip. I would walk into a fishing trip with the same frame of mind as I'd have doing most outdoor/active things. Dirtiness is generally part of the experience. The owner mentioned his unhappiness with the whole groupon thing - I guess Groupon screwed up or failed to explain things clearly. Probably not the most appropriate thing to bring this up to your, hopefully returning customers, but whatever, he was a cool guy over all that cracked a few funny and kinda lame jokes, so no big deal. I could understand his frustration. Anyway, we caught a whole bunch of fish. It was great. One lady on the boat even caught a nice big Alaskan Salmon! Unfortunately, she had to throw it back since they weren't in season, but it was pretty cool to see, and to see all the staff become impressed with that catch. I caught a pretty big grouper fish and another huge one that I can't remember what it was called, but it had sharp teeth and I was the only one who caught one of them. It was really cool pulling those two out of the water. The guys on the boat were totally cool, one of them let me use his fishing rod instead of the rental ones. Which seemed to be a lot more sensitive and I could actually tell when I got a bite. They gutted all the fish for about a buck each and it was pretty fun to watch how ridiculously fast he went. Definitely worth the $15, which by the way means we caught 15 fish! We were pretty happy with the day, and the meals we made from our catches made it even better. Definitely would recommend giving this a try, take your bf like I did, it's a great gift idea and they'll probably love it. read more

COROLOMA: First of all, I go fishing almost every week and all others were booked. So i decide to try out the coroloma because they had some spots open, should have known. First of all, 3 deck hands and only one seems to be working, other 2 instead of helping out the customers, were just sitting around. Worst of all, captain was so lazy or just didn't know how to sit on top of a fish mark. We were constantly on the wrong side of the current so getting tangled all day long. by the time we got to the tail end of our fishing trip, he was so eager to get back to the dock, he was yelling at his crew, he even came down to untanble some lines. doing so, he kicked some rods off the rail. wow, i've been fishing for 20 years and never been on a boat so rude, lazy and so poorly managed. go on the boats off of channel island, this is a complete waste of your time and money. read more

DO NOT GO FISHING WITH SPEED TWIN in Oxnard CA, these guys are crooks! I bought gift certificates a couple years ago that said "no expiration date". I planned a trip and made reservations for myself and my 76 year old father, drove out from Thousand Oaks, when we got there to fish they told me the certificates were no good and they would not honor them. Not only would the not honor my certificates..., they were real jerks about it. We were so upset and disapointed. We went over to Hooks Sportfishing where the speed twin used to go out of and the owner was so nice and offered us two for the price of one to go on his boat instead. I would highly recommend NOT USING SPEED TWIN, instead use a different boat or go to HOOKS SPORTFISHING its just on the other side of the marina and the guy there is a much nicer, smarter and respectable business person. After having a huge issue with the Speed Twin Sportfishing this morning, I want to say a HUGE thank you to Hal, Liz and the rest of the staff at Channel Islands Sportfishing. I spoke to Hal and he was very sincerely apologetic for what had happened and resolved the issue very quickly, fairly and professionally even though it was an issue directly with the Speed Twin and not with Channel Islands Sportfishing. Thanks again Channel Islands Sportfishing! read more

My cousin and I have been going out on the Coroloma out of Hook's Landing for years. I'm surprised I didn't already have a review of them on Yelp. If I had one, yesterday's trip would make me change it. It's no exaggeration to say we've spent THOUSANDS of dollars at Hook's Landing and we will no longer be returning. We've had trips cancelled due to insufficient reservations or bad weather, great days fishing and some not so much, and some great crews, some just good. Towards the end of last summer, Captain Chris, went to another boat, and a young buck named Marshall took over the Coroloma. Our only trip with him last year had a crew that was just OK, and we thought that the good mates we had dealt with in the past had gone to the new boat with Chris. We learned yesterday that Marshall and mates, Jeff and James, were a new low. Jeff and James clearly took their lead from Marshall, as all three of them had an air of superiority, and even when attempting to joke, they were borderline abusive. One of our guys asked Jeff to tie on a new leader. We provided the line, and Jeff tied it on. Minutes later, the entire leader detached 280 feet underwater. When we showed it to Jeff, he said, "it's not my fault!" If the line had snapped (as they can do when caught on the bottom), it still wouldn't have been an appropriate response. James was better, but was surly and clearly unhappy with his co-workers. Once on the boat, you're assigned a numbered burlap sack they keep your fish in. We bought burlap sacks from the store the first time we went on the boat, and those two sacks have been rolled up in our tackle box for YEARS. We've always used sacks that were already on the boat, and which the crew wash and reuse at the end of every trip. Yesterday, I was told that the burlap sack to hold my fish was $2. Pardon? When I said we already had sacks and haven't used them in the YEARS we'd been getting on this boat, I was told to go get them and they'd trade them out. If the cost of the trip had gone up from $65 to $67 this year, I'd accept it. To extort an extra $2 per head once we're on the boat for a bag that's likely been in use on the boat for years is just bad business and instantly put a foul taste in our mouths. Each trip has had a "biggest fish" pool - a good-natured competition where the heaviest fish wins the pot. They announced so many rules about the pool that it sucked a lot of the fun out of it. Either the captain was making the announcement preventatively, in which case it's a bad choice, or the clientele has changed and he's had to add the announcement. Either one is a reason to stay away. At one point, Marshall came to resolve a tangle. First he said, "gimme that - you're not qualified," then he cut the sinker off and put it in his pocket. When re-rigging a minute later, he asked for a sinker, then offered to sell us one for $5. When told it was in his pocket, he tried to make a joke about it, but joking about extortion ain't funny. Either something was wrong with the engine (stay away) or Marshall was trying to save money on gas - we spent twice as long travelling in each direction as we have in prior trips - we puttered out, puttered between drops, then quit early so we could spend 2 hours puttering back - a trip we've made in 50 minutes in the past. The crew is clearly unaware that they're in a service-based industry. Their attitudes were arrogant, money-grubbing and cranky, and not at all fun. At the end of the day, someone was just napping as we headed back to port and hadn't yet paid for his fish cleaning. Instead of having a small working knowledge of who the customers were on the boat, Jeff walked around yelling, "who's number 17? Diecisiete! Someone owes me ten bucks!!" Repeatedly. When we paid for our fish we tipped them, and didn't even get a "thank you." Punky, the lady in charge of the galley, was the exception - she had a great attitude, made good food and even walked the boat like a cocktail waitress to make sure we had everything we needed from the galley and could get more without having to stop fishing. Above and beyond! Great job, Punky! I made sure to get our used, $2 burlap sacks before leaving. read more

Went fishing out of Hook landing yesterday April 24, 2021. We went out on the Coroloma boat so much problems on that boat. 1st no safety speech before going out like where fire extinguishers, life jackets are , who the deck hands, Captain, cook. 2nd: boat left 1/2 hr late! Then off we all go on the trip. We stop at our 1st spot to find out we only have cut up squid No Live Anchovies! No water in the fish tanks that normally have the anchovies in it. We fished with squid only. We got hits and some fish. Then it's time people are ordering food. Now to get our burgers the orders are all wrong or the cook says he don't have your order. Our friend Craig, the cook never got his burger at all. The cook came out called my sons number 19 he gets his burger but no bacon. Then the cook comes out 1/2 hr later calls 19. Me 19 you already gave him and what's on that one, the one with bacon my son eats that one. Ok then to find out the 1st one was actually number 9 which was Craig's. Poor Craig finally got his burger like 3 hours later. My Granddaughter and I checking on Craigs order. Then it was still wrong order. My burger was just a cheese burger with NO mayo n catsup. Every time came with catsup yuck! Then to have the cook tell me to eat it anyway. He says well you have tomato on it, me: yea but catsup has vinegar in it not a tomato. 3 rd burger he got right. Then fishing we had so many tangles in line, the drift was bad, we had some people fishing on the other side of boat and their line is going under the boat tangles with our lines. We have to tell them come on ourside and use heavier weights. Then the end does it all. Time to fillet the fish. The 2 guys filleting fish, my son ask me how many fish I got Me: 4 Son: they only cut 1 fish. I go over and ask how many you guys cut in bag 20 deck hand says 1 sand dab. I said should be 4 fish 1 sand and 3 reds. He says no it's 1 so after awhile I want my fish this is crap. You guys probably put my fish in the wrong bags. Then someone told me some guy was taking fish out of bags and putting in his bag. Then I see 2 guys go to the deckhand then the deck hand takes off grabs this backpack and tells me open this up cause I was just told someone was taken fish out of the bags and putting in this bag. I open it up and there was 2 big ice blue blocks with about 5 reds in it. Deck hand says Here are probably your fish! Almost everyone on the boat came over and looked in the backpack and was shocked to see. I already knew who did it cause someone told me. I grabbed the back pack and walked over to the side of the boat and said someone better get their bag before I throw it over! Nope the guy didn't get it. Anyways I was thinking why would he just take my fish and other people didn't say they was missing fish. I still thing deckhands probably put in wrong bags . Then to get home yes I see a little 3in fillet fish that was suppose to be a sand dab was a red but my red was bigger than a 3 in's. Then our numbers were 19, 20 and 21. Got home Went to give my granddaughters her bag well it said 27 not 21! So now they really screwed up. My sons bag only had the strip bass no reds so that guy took his reds. Just didn't make since. Never again on that boat or maybe landing. Worse boat we were on they diffently need some change. Deck hands were good. They to was shocked about someone taken fish and hiding in a back pack. read more

The New Hustler leaves at 2am, fishing the outer Channel Islands. The early departure allows plenty of fishing time at spots not fished by the 1/2 day and 3/4 day boats. The full day boat is limited to 24 mostly happy anglers. A few of my fellow anglers suffered from sea sickness as the winds were not kind. Quality lingcod, snapper and various rock fish was caught by most. Crew takes care of your catch and can fillet, scale, or gill n gut. I choose fillets, which are immediately ready for flour, egg and panko. Today's deckhands Tanner and Dustin were pretty quick in detangling and tossing fish in numbered gunny sacks. Captain stayed out until 7pm - schedule is 6pm. I appreciated the extra hour fishing or maybe it was that we were fighting the current when coming in. Either way, the trip scratched that fishing itch. Pro-tip: I used to get sick every trip out. Tried Dramamine, the scopolamine patch, and even electronic gizmos with no success. Bonine worked miracles and renewed my love of fishing in the open waters. read more
