The beach is also home to 100s of squrriels. I have never seen a baby squrriel till now. Like I said 100s of them. Some are fat and some are about 3 inches in size. I visited on a morning weekday, and there were only an handful of people there. The beach is very clean; I didn't see any litter anywhere. The water smelled fresh. There are shorebirds to watch and a few surfers in the ocean, and the waves near the shore were calm. There is ample free parking on the paved lots as well as street parking, and flush toilets. There's even a little mesh path to the water to help people in wheelchairs or strollers navigate the sand.

Heading north on US 101 is great as you still may get some beach views, but you're on the other side of the highway. Heading south on US 101 is better because you're closer to the waters and you have the opportunity to stop at various outlooks and viewpoints. Best at low tide however since when the tide is high, a lot of the beach is under water. The leash law in Ventura County is that a leash is optional, unless otherwise posted. So a leach is not required. However, we always bring our pups on a leash and then let them run free once on the beach. If we see someone with their dog on a leash, we'll put ours on their leash presuming that they know their dog better than we do, and figure that perhaps their dog doesn't play well with others.

It's a beach break and a nice place to hang out. Beautiful views and you can walk up to the houses at solimar or down to Emma Wood. CONS--Over the years the parking gets inundated with RVs on weekends, holidays, and all summer. It sucks because a handful of RVs take up spaces. It's free parking so I guess that's how it goes, but it still sucks. Another con are valley douchebags, or any douchebag who doesn't understand proper etiquette. Just because you went out and bought a $500 wetsuit and $800 Al Merrick doesn't make you a surfer. Go to Ventura Point. I'll still keep going here. Thankfully, the knuckleheads who find themselves here are few and far between.

He received a Junior Ranger packet with activities to complete, and once he finished, he was officially sworn in as a Junior Ranger. He even got a little wooden badge, which was such a cute touch! The whole area was clean, nice, and easy to walk around. Such a fun and family-friendly stop, especially if you have kids who love adventures and earning Junior Ranger badges!
