I love coming here each time I visit Ventura, to relax, enjoy the ocean's view and take a break in the action. I wish I could surf, so I walk around or watch the surfers ready to catch a wave. It is a peaceful area to enjoy nature and great views, there's a parking lot around and residents squirrels on the rocks! It's never crowded and everyone is minding their business. So you can enjoy some peace! The pier isn't in its best shape, but this area has charm to me, even if you catch it during the sunset or on a hazy, foggy day. It's Ventura in a nutshell! read more

The place to walk along the oceanfront to the Ventura River mouth. We had to check out the aftermath of the latest winter storms after the skies cleared, so we also had a great view of the Channel Islands. The cement walkway is a locals' favorite for jogging and biking. Parking is usually filled with surfers at one of the breaks on the central coast, but there is 20 minute parking along the street. The promenade extends past the pier and connects with the Ventura State Beach. read more

This is a great beach for checking out the tide pools and exploring sea creatures. I've found starfish, crabs, and lots of sea anemones. Sometimes, it can feel a bit uneasy with different crowds that hang out in hidden openings within the rocks, but I just stay around other families that are also enjoying the beach. read more

This place is the stuff of photography dreams. I can't believe it has taken me a couple of years to actually come check it out. I've lived in Ventura for two years now and I have often seen photos of this area, as well as talked with people that walk here or surf here. Recently came across an Instagram photographer native to Ventura that posted some photos of this area. So I decided to go check it out. It does not disappoint! You can park in the lot and pay, or park along the street for a shorter period. It's a great place to go for a walk, although it gets busy at the usual walking times. It is a fantastic place to take pictures of sunset. Exercise caution as their are homeless people living around the river, I came across one laying on the ground smoking pot, minding his own business and not looking to cause anyone harm. That said, always be aware of your surroundings. This is really a beautiful, small, surf/walk/photo spot. A Ventura staple for sure. read more

One of the great spots in Ventura to soothe your soul by watching the waves crash on the shore. This section of the beach is a combo of sand and river rock-type stones. Not being a surfer, observation tells me that there are a number of breaks, which makes for a variety of challenges. This evening it was warm enough that some of the surfers were just in swimsuits. Most were in full wetsuits, though. There were dozens to watch, which was entertaining. Adored Grandson and Dear Hubby were beachcombing, while I was just chilling on a convenient downed tree trunk. We arrived past time when parking fees are collected. Lots of folks were out, walking, shooting photos, riding bikes, or just hanging out. Good place to be! read more

I love beaches. I love the smell of salt air and purifying surf. You don't have to be a swimmer of a surfer to love Surfer's Point at Seaside Park. You can sit serenely on the sand or above on the parkway on a bench, soaking in the fabulous sunset. I agree with the statement, "It's one of the best surf spots in Ventura known around the world for its well-formed waves and long rides." It's also a photographers dream. And the people are friendly. No thugs to hassle you like at some beaches around Los Angeles. This is one of my favorite spots in the world. Yes there are gorgeous beaches in Oregon, if you can survive the freezing winds. And then there is Monte Carlo if you don't mind laying on beach packed like sardines, or even Saint Tropez if the mosquitoes don't eat you first, or even the lovely beaches around southern Ukraine, where in the first ten minutes I lacerated my foot on a bottle cap. Or maybe even Sidney or Perth Australia if you believe the "shark nets" will keep out the Great Whites. California beaches are under rated, maybe the best all around. And Surfers Point is a must see. First, just a few blocks away is Main Street with door-to-door mom n pop owned but excellent eateries, some with local live bands, and of course the mishmosh of 2nd hand clothing stores that Los Angeles fashionistas just love. read more

The 2016 YELP 500, Review #071: Beautiful place for a romantic beach picnic any time of day... your only enemies would include the wind, cold weather, rain, kids feeding seagulls, an earthquake that makes this beach into an island surrounded by sharks... oh and the ensuing 200 foot tsunami. All kidding aside, I was here on April 3rd and it was a bit windy, which means bring a hoodie. I did notice that some surfer's donned hoods as well. Parking can be tough, so come early if you want to park in the lot. Street parking was free for 24 minutes, so the tourist types can stroll to the beach, snap a photo, see how the break is (if they even know what that is), use the restroom and then move on. read more

C street is my spot to catch a few waves on a nice summers day. You can get an annual pass for parking at the fairgrounds. If you don't have a pass its 4.00 to park for the day. Great spot to hang out and eat a burrito and watch the surfers. read more

Me and my bff came here for her birthday, and the marathon. This was such a relaxing spot to watch surfers (heart skips a beat), and just talk and walk along the park. Loved the free parking, and all the locals and/or tourists were friendly and smiled, waved at us. We felt like we were at home! Highly recommend this spot. read more

I made a trip to Surfer's Point recently (I explored it after spending time at the Super Custom Car Show at the Ventura Fairgrounds). It was lovely. The sand, rocks, native beach plants, and fallen trees looked picturesque. I came across two wood teepee's of different sizes when I reached the Ventura River Estuary. It was nice to see the Amtrak Surfliner pass at one point. It was also nice to see the the mountains in the distance along the coast. For the record: There was a foul smell (like sewer water) that drifted in-and-out as I explored the beach. Also, the beach water had a brown tinge to it (the river water was blue and looked clean though). Also, there were sketchy looking people hanging around the Surfliner Amtrak bridge by the river. read more

Early morning crew arrives early, most wanting to catch some waves before heading off to work while others delight in the tranquility of an early morning sunrise gently rising from the glistening ocean. However, for most local surfers, it's the camaraderie shared with one another which brings us back over and over again. Surfer's Point is definitely a hotspot for surfer enthusiasts. But, this is also a place where many leisurely stroll the promenade, run, cruise on their bikes, roller blade and skateboard. It's a serene spot where you can just go to for "peace of mind." Many return to Surfer's Point in the afternoon for a late surf session or to simply watch the beautiful sunsets we have. There's no other place like it! So, don't pass this spot up...ever! Surfer's Point pretty much sums it up. Great surfing spot, the locals are nice for the most part and you'll always find parking (even if it's in the paid lot for $2). There is also the bike path that you can jog, bike or skateboard down a few miles in either direction. Nice for taking pictures of the palm trees at sunset and walking around as well as exercising! I love Surfer's Point! Because from a surfer's point of view, this beach does deliver the goods. That's why it's called Surfer's Point, not Dog Point. The area was getting destroyed by high tides from a tsunami so it looks like it's in disrepair. But it's the city just cutting its losses since the tides do get high from time to time.. It's a great place to exercise, from surfing to jogging/walking. It's a good place for beginners. The surfers there are nice and not territorial. And there are mile markers for joggers so you know how much ground you've covered. I think the only downfall is that there are homeless people around. Otherwise, it's a nice place to visit. There are also three nice restaurants nearby if you're hungry. read more

Cool place to check out kite surfers and/or surf yourself. Nice vista of the Channel Islands on the horizon (though the god awful oil rigs they installed ruin any possibility of a nice view). Nice walk along a paved trail if you park in the Public Parking lot off Ventura. Fair warning though, like any water of the Pacific, it is freezing cold! So either wear a wetsuit or plan on joining the Polar Bear Club if you plan on going for a dip! read more

This beach is for the surfers, runners, bicyclists, and sun bathers - not so much the boogie boarder type. This beach has a nice stretch of sand for walking your dog, sun bathing, and long romantic walks. You can jog and bike too along the bike path beside the beach. The reason I don't recommend this beach for the boogie boarding type is because it is VERY rocky where the waves hit the shore. Also, these rocks make the whole place picturesque. I am not a surfer, and the water are too freezing for me, but I love to sit close to the water and watch the surfers. It is cool and the ocean is beautiful. From a pooch's point of view, this beach doesn't deliver the goods - what may be a surfer's paradise isn't necessarily doggie nirvana. We were excited to hear dogs were allowed on the beach north of the Ventura Pier. We were doubly excited when the kid at the ticket booth in the parking lot said dogs could go off leash. Alas, when we walked up to the beach, there were two cop SUVs sitting on the beach and they set us straight: "Dogs can go on the beach, but they must be onleash at all times." Glad we asked, Mr. Officer Sir! The beach here is awfully rocky, so if the tide is in (it was), you have to scramble over the rocks. So much for a leisurely stroll on the sand. We left a little disappointed by the beach but the promenade was fun - a nice place to walk the dogs in the sun, and most of the doggies we saw were friendly, too. read more

One of my favorite surf spots. You can find guys and gals surfing here pretty much any time of the day. Depending on tide and time of the year, entry can be easy along a sandy beach to hard along a high tide, rocky floor when winter rolls in and takes away all the sand. Waves are pretty consistent throughout the year and can just reach epic over head here so be sure to check surfline before showing up. There is a paid lot here which is real cheap or you can park along the road or even at the Condos next to the hotel and just walk down the stairs to the beach. Lots of sea life here. Good chance of seeing dolphins and seals if you are out surfing and paying attention. The view on a clear day like today is breathtaking. You can clearly see Anacapa and Santa Cruz islands. There is a nice dual use bike and walking path here as well. read more

I'm not a surfer and fear any body of water I can't see my feet in. Yes, I'm one of those 70's kids that saw Jaws 1-4 and Orca in the formative years and developed a healthy respect for keeping my limbs out of their habitat. I figure we can coexist separately and so far this rationalization has worked for me. I pass this place most everyday on my jaunts but today actually stopped and had a few minutes of reflection. Lately, I'm constantly amazed I live on the edge of the continent and the beauty of the world is here when one stops to appreciate it. DUde... This is a sweet place to go surfing. I love it. I've been out here 2x and thought the parking was so easy... We are talking either FREE or only $2 BUCKS. If you need to rent a board (like I did) hit up the rip curl store on california. I did see a couple other board spots you could rent from too but they have some nice boards (for a rental for sure). Both times I was out there with the dolphins... It was pretty cool. read more

If you want to relax and feel the California vibe go to surf point. Being new to Ventura, well California in general I love going down to the point to just sit and watch the surfers. There is a walking path that brings you through the sand dunes. You can really catch the best sunsets here as well. Bring the dogs too! Parking isn't bad either. I pay the $4 and pull in the lot leaving the free lot for the local surfers. There is always cool things to see there. Families and friends getting together to catch some waves. Some tailgating, weekends there is a hot dog cart. It's just a cool spot. The public bathrooms are a bit sketchy though. read more

Beautiful spot on the edge of the continent. It is very worth a visit... running, walking, surfing or just to people watch. We love it.

I think this spot is amazing for surfing. Yes it is very popular but you just have to remember to use proper surf etiquette and not steal someones wave. I use a very buoyant long board and waves break perfectly where I don't have to worry about paddling past the break. If you catch a wave just right under the right conditions you can ride it for a really long time towards the pier. read more

Don't come here if you're on a soft top/ Wavestorm or from outside of the area. Locals are rough and not the nicest of people. They will drop in on you and if you drop in on them prepare to get ran over. Go to Malibu or Mondos. read more
