I love coming here each time I visit Ventura, to relax, enjoy the ocean's view and take a break in the action. I wish I could surf, so I walk around or watch the surfers ready to catch a wave. It is a peaceful area to enjoy nature and great views, there's a parking lot around and residents squirrels on the rocks! It's never crowded and everyone is minding their business. So you can enjoy some peace! The pier isn't in its best shape, but this area has charm to me, even if you catch it during the sunset or on a hazy, foggy day. It's Ventura in a nutshell!

The place to walk along the oceanfront to the Ventura River mouth. We had to check out the aftermath of the latest winter storms after the skies cleared, so we also had a great view of the Channel Islands. The cement walkway is a locals' favorite for jogging and biking. Parking is usually filled with surfers at one of the breaks on the central coast, but there is 20 minute parking along the street. The promenade extends past the pier and connects with the Ventura State Beach.

This is a great beach for checking out the tide pools and exploring sea creatures. I've found starfish, crabs, and lots of sea anemones. Sometimes, it can feel a bit uneasy with different crowds that hang out in hidden openings within the rocks, but I just stay around other families that are also enjoying the beach.

This place is the stuff of photography dreams. I can't believe it has taken me a couple of years to actually come check it out. I've lived in Ventura for two years now and I have often seen photos of this area, as well as talked with people that walk here or surf here. Recently came across an Instagram photographer native to Ventura that posted some photos of this area. So I decided to go check it out. It does not disappoint! You can park in the lot and pay, or park along the street for a shorter period. It's a great place to go for a walk, although it gets busy at the usual walking times. It is a fantastic place to take pictures of sunset. Exercise caution as their are homeless people living around the river, I came across one laying on the ground smoking pot, minding his own business and not looking to cause anyone harm. That said, always be aware of your surroundings. This is really a beautiful, small, surf/walk/photo spot. A Ventura staple for sure.

One of the great spots in Ventura to soothe your soul by watching the waves crash on the shore. This section of the beach is a combo of sand and river rock-type stones. Not being a surfer, observation tells me that there are a number of breaks, which makes for a variety of challenges. This evening it was warm enough that some of the surfers were just in swimsuits. Most were in full wetsuits, though. There were dozens to watch, which was entertaining. Adored Grandson and Dear Hubby were beachcombing, while I was just chilling on a convenient downed tree trunk. We arrived past time when parking fees are collected. Lots of folks were out, walking, shooting photos, riding bikes, or just hanging out. Good place to be!

    Foggy day at the beach!

C street is my spot to catch a few waves on a nice summers day. You can get an annual pass for parking at the fairgrounds. If you don't have a pass its 4.00 to park for the day. Great spot to hang out and eat a burrito and watch the surfers.

The 2016 YELP 500, Review #071: Beautiful place for a romantic beach picnic any time of day... your only enemies would include the wind, cold weather, rain, kids feeding seagulls, an earthquake that makes this beach into an island surrounded by sharks... oh and the ensuing 200 foot tsunami. All kidding aside, I was here on April 3rd and it was a bit windy, which means bring a hoodie. I did notice that some surfer's donned hoods as well. Parking can be tough, so come early if you want to park in the lot. Street parking was free for 24 minutes, so the tourist types can stroll to the beach, snap a photo, see how the break is (if they even know what that is), use the restroom and then move on.

Beach for the surfers obviously, but great nonetheless. Primarily came here for a walk with my dogs and enjoyed it. The parking lot I ended up in wasn't huge and was lucky enough to find a spot.

I agree with a previous reviewer...this is not Dog Point. It is Surfer's Point. But...but...but... What if the dog is a surfer? Awesome spot for tourists and locals alike. Great for sunset pictures or a morning run. 5 stars all around. :0)

Gorgeous scenery. Stopped over to enjoy the view. Amazing sunshine and view overlooking the rocks and waves. Surfers seem to favor this spot. Many walk, run, or bike that path. Dogs are welcome.

My lovely San Buenaventura's hottest local surf spot--Surfer's Point. Early morning crew arrives early, most wanting to catch some waves before heading off to work while others delight in the tranquility of an early morning sunrise gently rising from the glistening ocean. However, for most local surfers, it's the camaraderie shared with one another which brings us back over and over again. Surfer's Point is definitely a hotspot for surfer enthusiasts. But, this is also a place where many leisurely stroll the promenade, run, cruise on their bikes, roller blade and skateboard. It's a serene spot where you can just go to for "peace of mind." Many return to Surfer's Point in the afternoon for a late surf session or to simply watch the beautiful sunsets we have. There's no other place like it! So, don't pass this spot up...ever! Off California St from 101 fwy, easy to get here if you're a tourist & you're a surfer or like to watch the waves, people surfing, jogging, walk your dogs, sitting on a bench reading, BBQ at picnic tables... I will be back soon for sure. I parked free on the street and very short distance to walk to the beach. So relaxing being here for maybe an hour...

    Is parking free?

We went later in the afternoon, about 4:30 or 5:00 and there wasn't an attendant there any longer collecting money, so it was free at that hour.

Some local beaches are starting to charge, but this one still offers PLENTY of free parking. In addition, there are multiple playgrounds - including a pirate galleon from when the park was established during my childhood, a THOUSAND years ago! It doesn't have the zip line that caused me to smash my leg into the concrete side, leaving a still visible scar 1,000 years later, which is probably for the best, but a kinder/gentler playground with more modern amenities for today's active child. There is also an expansive grass area, where you will find many local pups bounding about with joy. On the grassy areas, BBQs! Also a protected, man made beach cove with an easy enter, small to no wave water entry. Lots of families prefer to set up their space on the green grass and then make their way to the beach, which is an ideal way to have your picnic sand free! A foot shower is also available to rinse the beach off before you settle back onto your blanket. Plenty of benches, tables and a bathroom that is, if I'm being completely honest, acceptable, but could use an upgrade. If you're more active, make your way to the public dock to launch your kayak, paddle board, etc. I've also seen people fishing from this dock and launching remote control boats - so cute! If you haven't brought your own board or boat, there is a rental kiosk handily available. This is also a great park to stroll through. A clear path goes from the parking lot to the tip of the Ventura Harbor entrance, known as Soter Point, where a beautiful sculpture stands. This is a real nice place to surf. The break is gentle and rolls in and sometimes reforms, so it is great for longboards. The atmosphere and friendliness of local surfers here is better than anywhere else and this is a great beginner spot to surf; granted, it is up there and way up, just north of Ventura. It is worth the drive though and parking is free just off PCH next the railroad tracks. Be warned, you cannot park here prior to 7am. So if you are here for a dawn patrol be ready to move the car if the park rangers are ticketing. Also, during parts of the year, their are many rocks on entry and exit so booties can be a must here for beginning surfers. Also, the Yelp map for this location is slightly wrong. Keep driving NW (north on PCH) until you reach a distinct white bicycle set up as a memorial to a fallen rider/surfer and you have arrived. As far as the below reviews about the steep rocks, this is true but there is a concrete step like path down next to the chain link fence next to the 1st residential house at the beginning of this spot.
