Today continues the theme of self-care! As a busy caterer that does events & pop-ups, days like this are more necessary than you know. The irony of cooking, feeding & nourishing others with our food is we rarely get to put that much love & attention towards ourselves. That's why I'm putting more intention into feeding myself food from places I know put as much detail & love in their food as I do to mine. After doing some much needed cleaning & administrative work, I headed out to run errands & grab a bite to eat. My amazing friend, @805eatsvegan posted her visit with @lajenellenaturalcafe the other day & I immediately knew it was the spot next to Strandwich, which my husband @ronkerley have frequented during this pandemic. We had noticed that a cafe was going to be in there soon as there was signs, but had no idea that it was an all vegan location. I'm thrilled! It's located so close to home, it's steps from the beach, the weather is FABULOUS & the surrounding area is iconically a beach city in California. I think this is the perfect place to grab a healthy & delicious Vegan/Plant-Based meal, walk to the (Kiddie) beach. Sit & enjoy the beach vibes, dig your feet in the sand to ground yourself & reset! I highly recommend this gem of a spot. Go by yourself or take a friend or 2. Perfect place to have Mommy Dates with other Moms or quality time with your sweetie!

The menu

This 100% vegan restaurant is about the size of a small coffee shop. No seating inside, just outside, which was fine it was a beautiful day and my table had shade. The food was incredibly good! I had the nachos and the burrito. Both were superb. As I've said before in my reviews, when a chef only has a few things on his menu, he does them REALLY well; so so so true here. The only reason I didn't give this joint 5 stars was because of the service. There was only one gentleman working during the lunch time. He was wonderfully friendly and helpful, but he had not only my order, but one before me, and two after me. So it took about 20 minutes for our meals to arrive. I admire your perseverance and hard work, but consider a helper during the typical busy hours. I'm going back today to try the bowl, the burger, and the sandwich.

I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. The menu includes creative healthy offerings. I had the delicious bagel for breakfast. The high quality ingredients, great presentation of the food, friendly service, and delightful presence of the ownership. Made my first visit a joyful overall experience. I will definitely be a regular customer.

La Janelle ship wreck

This is an obscure beach behind a charming neighborhood where a ship wreck was used as a break water. Looking out into the bay, you see some beautiful islands. Also, there is a small naval facility on the beach and is interesting to look at. This beach turned out to be very peaceful and quiet which is a pleasant surprise. Beautiful beach and some remnants of ship wreck make this well worth checking out!

Silver Strand State Beach - 12.26.2024

Silver Strand State Beach

I decided to come here by myself on July 3rd. It was not nearly as crowded as Carpinteria City…read moreBeach that I just visited yesterday. The parking lot was full when I arrived at noon but I parked along San Nicholas Ave. It was not too far to walk to the beach entrance. Some things I liked about this beach was that it definitely was not crowded considering a lot of people are vacationing in the Ventura/Santa Barbara area in July and school is out. The farther away you move away from the restrooms and parking lot, the less and less people you will see on the beach. Parking in the parking lot is free but it's not very big so it's easy to see why it fills up quickly. The bathrooms are metal toilets and although there was seat covers there is no soap to wash your hands so you should bring hand sanitizer. There are 2 lifeguard towers but I only saw one active in the tower. The #2 lifeguard tower looked closed up. So you are better off sticking closer to the bathrooms for lifeguard safety. There were a lot of people surfing and boogie boarding here. At one point the lifeguard had to tells some boogie boarders to move down further and it looked like the section they were in was starting to look pretty rough. Dogs are not allowed between 9am-5pm but you will still see people walking their dogs on the beach. Overall it was a nice beach. I feel like there was definitely more driftwood here and more wood pieces in the sand that poke your feet but I did not encounter any tar on my feet at this beach which is a plus.

This is my FAVE park in Ventura because - IMO - it has everything you need for a great day at the…read morebeach. Let's start with FREE PARKING! Some local beaches are starting to charge, but this one still offers PLENTY of free parking. In addition, there are multiple playgrounds - including a pirate galleon from when the park was established during my childhood, a THOUSAND years ago! It doesn't have the zip line that caused me to smash my leg into the concrete side, leaving a still visible scar 1,000 years later, which is probably for the best, but a kinder/gentler playground with more modern amenities for today's active child. There is also an expansive grass area, where you will find many local pups bounding about with joy. On the grassy areas, BBQs! Also a protected, man made beach cove with an easy enter, small to no wave water entry. Lots of families prefer to set up their space on the green grass and then make their way to the beach, which is an ideal way to have your picnic sand free! A foot shower is also available to rinse the beach off before you settle back onto your blanket. Plenty of benches, tables and a bathroom that is, if I'm being completely honest, acceptable, but could use an upgrade. If you're more active, make your way to the public dock to launch your kayak, paddle board, etc. I've also seen people fishing from this dock and launching remote control boats - so cute! If you haven't brought your own board or boat, there is a rental kiosk handily available. This is also a great park to stroll through. A clear path goes from the parking lot to the tip of the Ventura Harbor entrance, known as Soter Point, where a beautiful sculpture stands. When I think of the perfect beach park, I think of Marina Park in Ventura. Cheers! "CC"
