I was looking forward to working with JP on replacing the countertops in both my condo and my new home. He came highly recommended by my agent, who had recieved the recommendation from his tile guy. I also thought I did my due diligence by reviewing his Yelp feedback. Before the countertop work began, we needed a plumber and asked JP if he had someone. He sent his plumber. The plumber did not speak English, and while he was there we used Google Translate to bring the issues to his attention directly... but it did not work. Unfortunately, the work was unacceptable. The bathroom sink leaked immediately due to improper connections, the sink was installed crooked, the showerhead rod was damaged during installation, a screw was broken into the wall, the wrong type of sealant was used, and the handlebar popped out with minimal pressure (he used the wrong screws, only screwed in 1 instead of 3 and broke one screw in the tile wall) creating a serious safety concern. My agent and I called JP to address the situation. Before I was even able to explain the issues, he immediately stated the plumber was "not his guy," despite having sent him. The conversation quickly became unprofessional, with him yelling AT US and he ultimately hung up on us.... all his without us even stating what the issue was leading me to believe he already knew HIS GUY screwed up. I had to hire another plumber to correct the mistakes, which cost me twice as much, all after already paying JP for a shitty job. I would be very wary of working with someone who is willing to speak to a paying customer that way before even hearing their concerns. Based on this experience, I will not be moving forward with them for my countertop installation. read more

If I could give zero Stars I would. Even better would be negative stars. JP referred a plumber to us for an urgent job. He said "his guy" was fantastic "His Guy" , Angel was not fantastic. He put in the sink crooked., the hardware was done incorrectly and ugly. This is a renovation. He put in the shower hardware with drywall screws and created a safety hazard, as the shower hand bar pops out of the wall with very little pressure, only hel in by one screw as the other was broken off in the wall. He did not seal or caulk the sink or toilet. When we called JP immediately became defensive declaring it was not "his guy"! He became belligerent and declared " well you said it was urgent. Urgent does not mean you will accept a crappy job. I would never refer anyone to JO and SDstone Studio. He was supposed to do our counters. No way in hell would I allow him in my home. If I could I would leave negative stars here. I dealt with JP in April of 2020 and I had the most horrible experience one could have expected. DO NOT USE THEM. I chose JP bc he was the most responsive, sounded kind with understanding of the customer and SDStone Studio had only positive reviews on Yelp. He was not the cheapest but rather in line with two other quotes I got. I am a Yelper and trust Yelp. I needed 134 x 44 kitchen island that needed a single waterfall. I had to buy two XXL size slabs (136 x 76) so there were no seams. JP didn't properly inspect the quality of these slabs when he picked them up. They not only had a bow but also surface scratches....which was manufacturing issue but the story doesn't end there. The slabs had veins and we wanted the veins to carry through in design and connecting with the waterfall. JPs team didn't do that thus we didn't accept the waterfall and he needed to find another remnant and refabricate it again leaving us with unfinished work. In fact, JP required my husband to come to his shop and "direct" his team with tape measure how the veins needed to connect on the waterfall else they didn't know what to do. JP and his crew came back a month later with that waterfall that we quickly realized was not sized properly, requiring the edge alongside the width of the island to be polished down so its actually even and rectangular. My husband who is an engineer was livid. The joint connection between the waterfall and the island was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. The island top also had a chip on one edge that they attempted to fix and unsuccessfully tried to make it invisible. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL...on the perimeter of the kitchen I picked a different color/type countertop stone. We have a 36 inch stove in between that perimeter stone. JPs team totally messed up the widths of the edges on the perimeter. On the right side of the stove it is 1 inch and 5/8 and on the left it is 1 inch and 1/2 which is pretty visible because of the position of the drawer handles. At first I thought that maybe installation of the kitchen was not level or something of this sorts but NOPE, the cabinets were installed perfectly with laser and upon taking tape measure it was evident they messed it up. When we challenged them they said it wasn't their fault but the company that had the stone cutting machine...OMG I was shocked with this luck of accountability. Ultimately I hired them to do it all and it is not my business if they even subcontract stone cutting work and if so, then who with. Least but not last we also hired them to install window seals which were supposed to be 1/2 inch outside of the wall and instead they made it too narrow and thus flush with the wall. How about them having to fabricate and install a 114 inch shelf in a hallway that was to be in one piece because we purchased two jumbo slabs 136 x 76, but instead they came with two pieces and trying to make a joint something that we challenged and they admitted they broke a piece. We had to wait for JP to find a remnant somewhere and waited for another month before they came back and installed it. They brought a poor quality piece with a horrible print. I have been in tears due to JPs poor workmanship and lack of attention to quality. I had to fight with the stone manufacturer regarding the surface scratches and received refund to replace the island countertop. Because of that I actually will be demolishing the island countertop...A quality fabricator would inspect the stone and made sure it was good and ready for fabrication BUT JP didn't do that. He took two slabs from a crappy batch and fabricated it ALSO POORLY. All in, I paid him for all work but I chose to withheld payment for the extra work related to the table tops primarily because of my horrendous experience. I blame him and his crew for having to demolish my island and for having to accept other deficiencies of the work. When I hired JP I warned him I was a big Yelper and he said he didn't care about Yelp reviews. I was hesitant to post for the longest time as for some people it could be their livelihoods and just a single bad experience for the business, but I couldn't just be silent with the stress I experienced and wanted to warn the others. I would sue them and report them to CSLB but I realized I didn't have their license number and its my fault for not asking about it when I hired them. At least I got a warranty payment from the manufacturer whom I purchased the slab from and at least I will not be out of pocket for fixing the mess SDStone Studio and JP left me with. See some pictures although they don't do justice. However if you visited my house you could see it all with an open eye...pretty evident. read more

I chose JP's company based on these Yelp reviews. I had a very negative experience with SD Stone Studio. At first JP was very responsive and scheduled me pretty quickly before the holidays. He had to postpone one day due to "scheduling errors" at his shop where they fabricate the counter. (after a week Im still without my kitchen) JP also didnt tell me until they were doing the demo that they dont fix the wall where the old tile comes out. He did hook me up with someone who came in the evening and prepped the wall. (Thank you Juan Carlos!) After installing my counters his workers left a huge mess, they didnt wipe the caulking off the counters and then they put all their left over tubes and chemical mixes in my recycling bin in my garage leaving my garage with toxic fumes. I had to dig them out, put them in my trash bin myself. I asked for the remnant granite so I can match flooring and when they finally brought it over it was the bull nose end with all kinds of bad cuts. He was suppose to use this peice on one end of the counter and now i see why he didnt. It was mangled. One part of the backsplash was cracked in instalation. Two edges of the backsplash were not lined up to the end of the counter, and much of the backspash was not sealed well. The sink caulking is very messy. One 20" part of the counter is sticking out half inch farther than the other end. When I called JP to get things right he said he'd send someone over. He never did. I reached out again and he said hes been sick with fever and body aches. I asked if he was tested for Covid (none of his workers wear masks) and he said no he's just staying home. He hires workers from across the border and never knows when or if they will show up. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! read more
