A very positive experience! We just has SDI insulate the exterior walls of our 1960's-era Belmont hills home, and I was very impressed with the work they did. Their communication with me was excellent, and everyone I interacted with was extremely professional and very skilled in their respective tasks. I feel very comfortable recommending SDI's work - they did what they said they would do, and they did it quickly and professionally! A lot of companies pitch attic cleanup in those monthly coupon envelopes, but everyone we talked to said they're risky and local is best. Our contractor said SDI is high-quality without being overpriced so we went with them for a long overdue attic insulation job. The team was courteous, on time, got the work done quickly and cleaned up great. Very importantly, when we had an issue with some ceiling lights after the job was done, Alfredo responded immediately. Sergio and Gene were there within 24 hours to assess and fix the problem. It turned out to be pretty minor but they did a full fix to eliminate any chance of recurrence. Highly recommend. Years ago we had SDI remove some asbestos in our home and they did a fine job. Recently, we contacted them for wall insulation (blow in). Kyle came out to estimate and later Dennis helped with a few additional questions. We are beyond happy with the results! Our home is quieter (we live near the flight path for SFO) and stays cooler in the Summer and keeps the heat in the cold. Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. We were aware we would be left with the painting to do so our painter is on his way to texture and paint. These guys are as perfect as the last time I used them for my other home. I bought this house in July, and Jack came out and looked at how bad the insulation was. In my last house, we sprayed foamed the entire attic, making it a warm, conditioned space. However, my budget is hitting differently now. So Air Sealing and Blown in Fiberglass for me. Due to even more budget constraints, I had to wait until December to get it done. Jack was on vacation, but Brett (who I worked with previously) stepped right in when I called. They had the job on the calendar in a week, and it was a two-day job. Alfredo answered all my questions and was accommodating when I requested a different material be used in the attic. The guys who came were courteous and efficient. They put a fresh tarp on my floor each day and left no trace. We saw an SDI Fireplaces advertisement on the KRON 4 TV channel. We have been in our home for 35 years and never used our living room wood-burning fireplace. We have a gas fireplace in our family room and wanted one in our living room as well. Cost was a huge concern as the gas main is on the opposite side of the house where the fireplace is (approximately 60 feet of gas line). I had received estimates of $4,000 and $5,000 just for the gas line install. This was way over budget and we were about to forget the idea. I spoke with Tony Pham at SDI Fireplaces and he worked with us to find a gas log and starter set at a reasonable price and their estimate for the gas line installation was far less than the 2 estimates we received from plumbers. The plus is that SDI employs their own installers so no need to contact a separate plumber. The installers has great ideas for were the gas line would go and even found a way to cut down on the length of pipe needed. Our total cost for the gas line and log set with installation was far below the gas line, only quotes we received and even came below our budgeted amount. Tony even re-organized his worker's schedule to complete the installation in a short amount of time. The SDI team, from the friendly office staff to the installers, were courteous and very helpful. Our experience was completely stress-free and we have used fireplace every night for the past week. The SDI accounting department treated me like a criminal, I called and asked for the accounting manager and Christine treated me really poorly. Here is what happened. I got an invoice in the mail, it said on the invoice I could mail a check. The next day a man from accounting called and asked when I was going to pay the bill. The next day after, that the same man called and left a voicemail starting that if I didn't pay immediately they would put a lien on my property! I couldn't believe how unprofessional this was, only 2 days after receiving the invoice. I called to talk with the manager and Christine treated me just as poorly. She claimed that she emailed me the invoice the same day I received the service. I checked my email and that was not true. It was emailed to me a week after the service, which is also when I received the invoice in the mail. Needless to say I paid it immediately over the phone that day. If they put in writing in the invoice that it is ok to send a check in the mail (therefore leading me to believe it's ok if it takes a few days to receive the money) then why the harassment? Also the leader of the team that installed my insulation was serious and irritable. I was very friendly toward him and he was inside my house in a horrible mood. Poor customer service. Workers damaged ducts in the attic and also damaged one of the duct vents, so now the heater makes a constant rattle... They said they would take care of my rebate for me and that was part of their sales pitch. However, once I paid them, it has now been 3 months of me chasing down all the people involved to finally get it submitted! I had to get a test after the work, and they sent me on a rabbit chase for that too. Finally, they wanted me to re-fill out the forms, since they lapsed over from 2019 to 2020. Granted, this is not a big deal, but you think they could have the customer service to at least re-do the forms for you, considering all the hassle this has been for 3 months?!? read more

Just had spray foam for the roof bays and rockwool for the walls installed in our small ADU project out here in soggy El Granada. SDI sent Joran to see the job and give us an estimate. He returned with 24hrs with a reasonable quote. Much lower than a couple of individual contractors that I'd contacted. They got us on their schedule that week. I didn't get the spray foam teams names, but they did a quick and CLEAN install, next day Alvaro and Sergio arrived to do the Rock-wool. I was impressed at how fast and professional their work went. Wow! What a great team. This company knows how to do business. They get the highest recommendation I can give. I'm very impressed. We bought a house with an addition done in the 1970s and learned that the reason why the south and west facing rooms were so hot (even with A/C) was because there was no insulation! We went with SDI because they were recommended by friends, and I've got to say that they were a pleasure to work with. Joe Stromberg came in and inspected the house, discussed options (you can blow in through interior walls and not damage the stucco exterior!) and gave us a reasonable quote. He didn't try to pressure us into expanding the scope of the job like the other companies we got quotes from, which we appreciated. When we accepted the quote SDI's scheduler Alfredo got us on their schedule in a week. Their team, lead by Hugo (who is a neighbor here in North Central, always a plus), came in, put down plastic, blew the insulation into the walls (about 70 linear feet), and cleaned up after themselves, all in about 2.5 hours. We noticed a difference in the rooms that very night. The interior walls were cool to the touch rather than warm, and the marked temperature differential between the addition and the original part of the house was gone. I think I've given up on these people. In the end, they REALLY SHOULDN'T be in the fireplace business. They are TERRIBLE at COMMUNICATION and really good at keeping customers in the dust. I mean, why make your customers mad? Our Empire Loft fireplace panels have been replaced three times and they look worse than any before because the panels are poor quality and can't withstand elements like heat and gas - so the black enamel splotches and streaks and when the fire is on. They fail to care, come out or come up with an alternative panel solution. Their owner, who I've left messages for doesn't give a rats ***, the young kid Henri who runs the fireplace is all talk and NEVER follows through.... and the distributor most of all doesn't care. AVOID SDI for fireplaces - all they kinda know is blowing foam. They did insulation for us - aside from cracking a roof tile, they were fine. read more

SDU was one of two companies from whom I received bids. Based on the assurances that care would be given to the exterior of the house and garden, I went with SDI. They did both blown-in attic insulation and wall insulation for a stucco house. While they don't promise to match the texture of the existing stucco, I wasn't expecting the sloppy job of patching their guy did. This then resulted in having to hire a second contractor to repair the damage from the holes in the walls. Don't expect to get your PG&E rebate paperwork until about four weeks after the bill is paid in full. read more

The first project which was removal of insulation. The salesman was professional and the work was done timely. This was a good job. Fast forward to trying to schedule the new insulation and I can't get anyone to respond. First, their phone number advertised for Santa Clara county rings off the hook and no one answers it. I then called on the main number, she was quite rude and I was told I would receive a callback for an appointment within 24 hours. That was a week ago. Clearly they don't need the business nor do they want repeat customers. I would say the second experience doesn't rate any stars but giving two as an average for the first experience. SDI did a great job installing the insulation into the walls!! The cost is very reasonable and results in significant heat retention in the condo. The bonus benefit is the sound dampening in the rooms. Before SDI Insulation, the walls in my condo had zero insulation (built in 1958). The crew that arrived was totally professional. They knew exactly where to make the small holes in the walls. They worked very efficiently and got it done in one day. The rough patches they left were easily painted over by professional painters. Repairs on our free standing gas fireplace/heater were not finished and a promise was made to return and hook up a thermostat controller. They were also going to return and check the the roof attachment as they didn't have a ladder for the original repair. Many many calls not returned. The heater heats our whole house and is terribly inefficient without a thermostat. We are suffering through the cold weather . read more

This company is very professional and will get your job done very quickly. They insulated a 5,000sqft home in just a few days with virtually zero issues. You might be able to save upfront with a small shop, but you won't get the depth of experience and organization that comes with SDI. They have many levels of organization and are very efficient and thorough. The few small items that needed attention were corrected the next day. They also know the building codes well, so will make sure the products used are in compliance. As for results, you can't go wrong with spray foam if you have accessible surfaces. Attic space went from 90 degrees inside with mid 70's outside to a now comfortable 70 inside. An old shingled house went from Swiss cheese to a totally sealed, efficient structure with an additional 600ft or livable space. There was one part of the quote for the spray in insulation and the other part of the quote was for the blanket type insulation as we hadn't decided which one we wanted. The removal was only included for the blanket style insulation and not for the spray on insulation. That is why there was a new quote sent to me was because the removal of the insulation for the spray in version was not included in the first quote, page 1. read more

SDI did the spray foam closed cell R38 in my attic. They were reliable, professional and well organized.

We hired SDI to do insulation in our newly constructed home. We paid $1,000 via credit card up front to secure them. Due to mandatory county inspections, we had to reschedule (once) on them. Getting them to come out after our original date was difficult, and they gave us a hard time for having to reschedule, even though the nature of construction is dependent upon inspection approvals and beyond our control. Fast forward to the day of the job... They sent a crew out for a half day. This was a full day job and SDI was well aware of the amount of time it would take. The crew decided they needed to leave and they left their truck and supplies at our home and said they would be back the following day, OR we could pay them overtime (cash) to finish the job that day. Absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional! We declined, and proceeded to contact SDI and they gave us a story that they were unable to have their crew onsite all day due to their scheduling of other jobs. The next day comes, and they returned to finish the job. All looks great and we are starting to feel good about everything even after all of the ridiculousness. Now here comes the main reason for my one star review... I mentioned previously that I paid $1,000 via credit card to secure the company. Well, they sent me an invoice on 9/24 for the total amount of the job, less the $1,000. I cut a check in full on 9/29 and placed it in the mail that day. Yesterday, (9/30) I received a certified letter from them which was a California Preliminary Notice threatening placement of a lien to our home if we did not pay in full. Meanwhile, I received an email today (10/2) that they attempted to charge my credit card (the same one I gave for my deposit) but it was declined. This is a large sum of money and my authorization is necessary for large purchases, so yes, it was declined. SDI was never given my authorization to charge my card. It was given for the sole purpose of the deposit, and the deposit only! I informed them that I had mailed a check in full and it was on its way to them. I understand they may have trouble collecting from their patrons, but better communication could have prevented this ugly situation which has left me feeling unappreciated as a customer. Their treatment towards me makes me never want to recommend this company to anyone. If you like to be hassled and offered shady business practices like paying cash to their employees to finish a job they've already been contracted to do, then choose SDI. I cannot comment on their quality of work, because I'm still waiting to receive an estimate, and the estimator that came out is not responding to email. TL;DR: - Five weeks after estimator visit (2 months after initial contact), and I still don't have an estimate. I also don't have any idea if they will ever get back to me. Timeline: jan 21 - First email to SDI to request an estimate. jan 22 - Email response requesting speak by phone. We speak by phone. jan 28 - Spoke with estimator. Asked him to coordinate with builder for site visit. feb 11 - I email estimator and cc the SDI administrative assistant, because the builder reported no contact from the estimator. Estimator schedules to visit the next day. The estimator never contacted the builder about the next day visit. feb 12 - Estimator visits. feb 25 - I email estimator. No response. mar 11 - I email estimator and cc the SDI administrative assistant. I get a same day response from the estimator. The response was not an estimate, and it was not a response to my questions. It was basically, "I'll have that out to you ASAP." mar 21 - Still no estimate. No ETA response. Nothing. In other words, SDI ghosted. read more

I'd be very hesitant in going with SDI. They don't do anything on time and take forever to get back to you. Communication is poor and they come off as very lazy. I should have read these reviews before booking this job. 1. Super canned sales pitch from the estimate guy...SO canned in fact, I heard the same pitch 3 times 2. One would think that a job being done quick would be a good thing...I discovered why they were done so fast: Items in my basement were literally thrown around (items left knocked over, furniture turned over on it's side and left there, items spilled out of previously closed boxes). Wires that had been secured not to hang, were all left hanging. Things were a total mess. NOTHING was cleaned up. Learn how to use a broom! 3. Instead of using ladders and step stools my furniture in the basement was used...the evidence of this was left by staining boot mark footprints on my cream canvas covered bar stools and footprints on a wooden table. 4. They didn't use uniform product for the job. 2/3 my basement ceiling is white and the other 1/3 is pink/brown swirl. I mean really!?!?! Are you just using your rememants on a job?? I didn't call a family friend to 'cut me a deal' I called a business and spent a lot of money. 5. Only plus, was they were easy to book a day and they were quick. After all that mess, I'm just glad it's over with. PS....oh yeah, and the stuff stinks, so be prepared to air out your home for about 2 weeks....and there is still a lingering smell read more

As I was trying to work things out SDI to hopefully avoid a court fight, both the owner Steve and Operations Manager Sam repeatedly copied me on their internal communication where they would be telling their staff to "put a lien" on my property "if she has not paid the insulation bill yet"... Apparently, those were meant for me to hear.... What they could have done was to walk 3 steps over to their own accounting dept and find out I paid for the insulation right after the job was done, even when my place was left without power... They got such moments of pleasure out of saying "I will put a lien on your house" that they would say it again and again, when they knew they have no legal basis whatsoever... This is a loud and clear statement of their mentality and their business practice.. You wonder why this place got so many negative reviews here on Yelp.... I feel like dealing with gangsters....But we live in a land of law... So stay tuned for the legal action I am taking..... read more
