Hands down the worst service possible. I signed up to take my PADI class and went into buy the personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins, boots and gloves). The sales rep directed me to a computer where I was instructed to pick a "package" off their website. They wouldn't show me gear in person only on a screen and suggested I pick my gear based on how it looks and now how it fits. The scuba instructor said the most important part of scuba was the breathing and secondly that your gear is comfortable. We had multiple people wanting to make a big purchase and the guy was so lazy he told us we might have better luck somewhere else. What a joke! We left and went to Beach City Scuba, they gave us 10% off and their prices were cheaper than Scuba.Com. This place is terrible, bring your business elsewhere it's just a frustrating mess! read more

I had two serious problems with my recent order. First, one item was not in stock and after two days I was told it was no longer available. Two days after that I was told my order was delayed because another item in my order was back ordered. About the time it was supposed to ship it was delayed yet again. Second, I inquired about replacement straps for my fins. I asked: "will these (Tusa Fin Spring Straps) fit Deep See Aqua Glide fins?" The response I got: Arthur (Certified Scuba Instructor at Scuba.com): "Yes they will." Nope, they don't, not even close. I was hoping to find a reliable west coast supplier. First off, I live in Asia and equipment is VERY expensive without much selection. Since I was visiting home for 2 weeks, I thought it would be a great chance to buy my own gear (I've always rented). I also wanted to pick up a snorkel set for a friend in Asia. First, I went to two OTHER dive shops in the past few days. The first had NOTHING in stock; it wasn't a true dive shop. The second was a fairly large one in the area. The woman was helpful at first. Other customers came in and I said she could help them while I compared the items. However, when ready to make the purchase, she was still helping them and I waited 30 minutes - and I finally walked out without buying anything. These experiences left me feeling like an awkward outsider, who wasn't really welcome in the little local dive shop clique. So I went to Scuba.com a little hesitantly. I read about it and understood it was basically a warehouse that lets you walk in and they bring the stuff out of the back. It is a warehouse - in a warehouse area. Definitely feels like you aren't supposed to just walk in and buy stuff. So I went in, expecting that I would be interrupting the flow of a warehouse and taking staff away from filling orders and shipping packages. Nothing could be further from the truth. The room was simple, with a check out counter, some computer stations, a table, and some chairs scattered around. It felt more like a waiting room. Definitely no displays of equipment. As others said, you can walk in and put in a request at the computer terminals. But for me, I needed ADVICE more than anything. Bill, one of the managers, welcomed me and listened as I described what I was looking for and my budget. He started with boots and brought out 3 pairs, let me try them and put fins over them, explained the advantages of different styles. At one point, we pulled out 3 more pairs. In the end, I chose the pair he originally recommended. And they WEREN'T the most expensive - he really seemed to have my comfort and practicality in mind, as well as my budget. We repeated this process with masks, snorkel, fins, gloves, and dive computer. In every case except the computer, I ended up liking his first recommendation best - it was often the most comfortable, practical, and reasonably priced (not cheapest, but best value). In fact, the only reason I chose a different computer was that I wanted the option to connect to the computer in the future (although I didn't buy the connection cable now and may never need it). Overall, I spent 3 hrs there. Now, I went on a Monday afternoon to avoid the weekend crowds, but there were about 5 other customers during that time. Bill was excellent at switching between us. He'd hand me 3 sets of gloves to try on, then turn to ask a boy's mother about sizing a wetsuit. He'd proceed to give them his full attention, put the wetsuit request into the back, then turn back to me and see if I needed anything, such as another size. I was welcome to check the computer to see which colors or sizes they had in stock, but he'd just as quickly do it himself. Yes, it's not the normal way of shopping. A lot of people want to see all their choices and spend time testing it themselves. If you want, you can request 10 masks from the back and test them all out. But working with Bill was even better. By telling him what I wanted, he'd pull out the 3-4 that best suited me. After all, I don't really need to test the $200 mask if I don't plan to spend that much. I also saw regulars walk in, use the computer, and walk out in 10 mins. So it's up to you what you're looking for. I was going to give 4 stars because I'm not a huge fan of the website design, but the customer service was excellent. Just remember, if you don't know what you want, it will take time. Pulling stuff out of the back didn't take long, but it wasn't just sitting on a shelf in front of you. Be prepared to spend the time. I was definitely there the longest - but I also bought the most items. Also, go on a weekday if possible. Finally, although I'm not ready to buy a BCD and regulator, Bill was happy to discuss it and was willing to bring them all out for me to test. I may even go back this week, before I return to Asia, and test all the BCDs. That way, I will be able to order online whenever I'm ready. Bill also gave me contact numbers for some local diving (if I have time before returning to Asia, I'd love to go over to Catalina for a day) and other recommendations. He knows his stuff (equipment, training, local diving) and he likes to share that knowledge. It's not all about the money. They will have 100% of my business in the foreseeable future, online or in person. read more

A great store with a great selection. I recently got dive certified, and I have gone here to get several pieces of equipment. There are two things that I really love about them (1) they really stand by their equipment. There have been a few times now where I bought something, tried it, didn't like it, and brought it back to them, and they have let me exchange gear that had been used for another similar item. (2) They carry larger sizes in wetsuits which are REALLY hard to find. I've used the website a few times, but my best luck has been with the actual store itself in Irvine. Nice Well informed staff, with good attitudes. Much nicer than most of the other dive shops in the area. There are never rushed or stressed out. Rentals are only four people taking classes, but they have a very knowledgeable technical staff that I feel is probably the best in the area. And of course prices are great too. Kristina is super nice and an enthusiastic diver as well. She used to work at another dive shop where she was easily the nicest employee there. Other places have lost my gear for weeks for no reason and without apology . The same other dive shop double charged my GFs credit card after I had paid cash- they still have my $300. This place gets service done on time and right the first time. That might be the biggest draw into their warehouse - look at something cool while you wait. At great prices . I bought 7mm booties here and love them. Plus they have $9.95 scuba.com micro fleeces! A perfect xmas gift. Standard Fills are just $3.50 as compared to $8 elsewhere. $35 gets you viz and hydro which costs more elsewhere despite the fact they use the same company for this. read more

I have ordered from Scuba.com about 3 times. Two out of three times there were problems that I wasn't expecting. 1. They don't have items in-stock. A lot of their big ticket items are drop ship by the manufacturer. They will hold your order or delay your order if they don't have it in-stock. This has happened for two of my orders. One was the Oceanic DataMask, and the 2nd order was due to the Big Blue CF-600. I would call and make sure that they have items in-stock before ordering with them or you may not have items before your next Dive. 2. The more recent problem that I've run into is their A) Customer Service and B) Their "policy". With the order of the Big Blue CF-600 was it not only delayed, but Fedex also lost the package or delivered to the wrong place. On Sept. 7th, I was in my garage with two other guys changing my HVAC's heating and cooling unit. The garage was opened the whole day and it was 100 degrees plus outside. In order for anybody to get to my front door they need to pass thru the front of the garage. Fedex says they delivered to my house, but obviously it wasn't delivered there because my garage was opened from 8AM until 5PM, and when I spoke with driver two days later he said garage was closed, which tells me he delivered to the wrong house. I am okay with Fedex losing boxes, things like this happens and I understand. However, how Scuba.com handled the situation was really bad customer service. I myself own a manufacturing company and have things lost by the carriers here and there. When things like this happens I'm usually the first one to jump on the phone with the carriers and make sure to find out what's going on. I will not bother my customers. However, when I first called Scuba.com AFTER I called Fedex, the guy on the phone tells me to call Fedex (which I already did) and bother them about this case. I was calling Scuba.com to let them know what was going on, but they told me that they "couldn't start" a case until I called them. The next day when Fedex called me back I asked who should have called them, and they said the shipper should always be the one trying to resolve the issue. It almost felt like Scuba.com was saying dam you're SOL deal with it, this is the really bad customer service. Now for their policy, the first time I called Scuba.com they told me that they could re-ship the items if I were to pay for it again. And they would refund me once the case with fedex would be solved. Initially I declined and told them that I would wait a few days and see what Fedex says. The package could show up later that day or the next day. Today is 5 days later, and Fedex called me today telling me to call Scuba.com and tell them to call Fedex (which tells me that Scuba.com never even followed up with Fedex) and ask Scuba.com to reship the goods. Now I called Scuba.com and told them what Fedex said. Again as a customer I would expect one of two things, either re-ship or refund. IT is their fault that they don't require signature on packages. If they are not going to take responsibility they should have at least have the packages be a mandatory signature. I spoke over the phone with "customer service" and complained, and was told that it's their policy. They could not refund nor reship (unless charged one more time) until the case with fedex is solved. I know that the case with fedex could take 1 week up to couple of months and I don't understand why I need to have my money sitting there as hostage when this should be dealt by Fedex and Scuba.com. I have never experienced such a bad retailer to deal with. Not only have they lost a customer, but I will make sure that my group that I dive with will never buy anything from them again. I would be careful before placing any orders with them. They will hold money that doesn't even belong to them as hostage. If they wanted to make sure people got the goods at the very least they should have made the packages that they send to be signed for. Stay away from this place, support your local dive shops. I have been shopping with them for nine years. Because I'm a snorkeler I don't bring in the mega bucks that Scuba equipment brings in, but I have been a faithful client. On several occasions items have been on backorder, not sent, etc. and I looked the other way. I recently had an issue with an order which was not handled properly, resulting in my dissatisfaction. However a manager reached out to me to make amends, which indicates that the company management does indeed care about repeat customers. This makes me happy, because it is still my intention to become Scuba certified, which means a lot of equipment to purchase. I recently purchased a used wetsuit from their online store and made arrangements to come down to their warehouse so I could inspect and try on. When I arrived, they said the suit was defective! I wasn't very pleased with this since I drove from LA to Irvine but in an effort to make things right, Tom arranged to sell me a brand new suit for the same price as the used one! I feel like I got the deal of the decade and although I'm sure they didn't make any money on that transaction, they now have a customer for life. They have a very interesting shop. All product is in the back warehouse and you select what you want them to bring up front via laptops that are logged onto their website. Kinda inconvenient if you don't know EXACTLY what you want but it allows for a huge selection. That being said, my item needed to be back ordered but it wasn't a big deal. Only true complaint is that I felt like an inconvenience since I kept having items brought to look at. I had a great experience shopping through the Scuba.com website. I was looking for a women's shortie wetsuit for our trip to the Galapagos Islands. The site was easy to navigate and I found several suits to consider. The questions/comments were most helpful on the different suits. I learned that the most important thing when looking for a suit was not your height or weight - rather your chest and waist measurement. So instead of ordering an XS, I ordered a Small. I went to scuba.com's location in Irvine today for new free-diving fins and a weight belt for spear fishing. I'm pretty new so went in there not knowing much about the equipment. I was approached by Darrick who immediately helped me. And instead of trying to sell me the most expensive items, or unnecessary equipment, I was directed to the items that would suit my needs the best. I have experienced other stores near the Newport area, and for them, its all about the sale, not about improving someone's good time while in the ocean. I have been to Scuba.com multiple times since becoming certified in July with nothing but the best experience in customer service, knowledge and helpfulness. The store is not your average retail experience. Scuba diving is a sport that requires awareness of multiple details that are essential to having a safe and good experience. So with that in mind, all the guys (Aaron, Arthur, Bob, and everyone else I've met) have taken the time to educate me on many aspects of diving. You can either order online or go into the store, go to their computers and order whatever you want to check out and they are brought out to you from their vast warehouse. After checking out the equipment you can ask as many questions as you have from the instructor and with his guidance you can make your purchase and take your gear with you. My most recent experience was a week and a half before Christmas when I ordered a dive computer for a 12/26 trip to the Carribean. It wasn't in stock and was due to come in on 12/19. I called on 12/19 and was told the manufacturer had extended the delivery date until after Christmas, but to check back the next day. In the meantime, I received an email from Scuba.com advising that the manufacturer had now discontinued this item. Eeee gads! I called the shop and spoke to Bob. He said that the owners of the store were offering a different computer to those of us in my situation. This dive computer turned out to be the one I couldn't afford at $697 and my ordered computer was $299. Well, I told Bob I really couldn't make up the difference and he said that the $697 was being offered to me for $399! He said the owners said Merry Christmas! Did Scuba.com have to do this? Did they have control over the manufacturer? Obviously not. So, when I came to pick up my new computer, Aaron put my whole rig together, explained the computer, and said Merry Xmas.
