We could not have had a better experience in selecting snorkel gear for our upcoming trip to French Polynesia than at this store. Derrick was our salesman, though we were also helped by Tia and Tom when Derrick had to leave. We had a lot of questions, and Derrick came up with not only good answers and lots of equipment for us to try, but useful suggestions as well. These people are as friendly and patient as they come. I'm a beginner and came in (in person) for starter equipment with an experienced diver friend. Chance helped us and was absolutely incredible. We paid less than we would have paid at other dive shops, and got 10x better service. He let me try on a nice variety of every piece of equipment and was full of helpful suggestions and guidance on getting the right gear with the right fit and for a good price. This place has a lot of things in stock right therre. They will bring it out to you in just a couple minutes. Very helpful staf. Ease of shopping. The prices are cheap too. I highly recommend finding a local dive shop, don't buy from this company online - if you have an issue, they won't stand behind making it right. My experience was horrible. Mares BC was rigged improperly with a splitter on air supply to inflater and gauges which introduces an additional failure point. Naturally, this failed and instead of waiting weeks for them to warrant, I got it fixed for $100 at local dive shop. 15 dives later, the inflater button failed and constantly fills BC with air. I email customer support and expect them to make it right but no response for a week. I call and after 5 minutes on hold, am connected to someone who tells me Mares only has 1 year warranty. I point out their website says 2 years and he agrees. Based on all the issues and lack of response, I ask for a new inflater hose to be drop shipped so I can make a dive next week and am offered - you can send it to us, we'll mail it to Mares and get the warranty work done - should take about 4 weeks after Mares receives it. The rep says "yeah, I understand, sorry but that all we can do". Headed to local dive shop to pay for 2nd repair on 1 year old BC. read more

Do not order from this company if you are looking to have an item delivered for Christmas or other special event. We ordered presents on Dec. 16 with 3 day delivery. Just got notification that they will be derived on Dec. 27th. Unacceptable. Even spoke with customer service on Dec. 21 who guaranteed that items would be delivered by Dec. 23rd. Staff seems to be friendly and knowledgeable, I just I have huge issue, I placed an order online, I needed the suit within a week and I received an email saying there was a problem, so I called and discovered that they didn't have the items in stock and they needed to be ordered. I cancelled so that I could purchase elsewhere, only they had already charged my car meaning I couldn't buy it elsewhere because the money was in limbo between banks. Charging a customer for an order before it's ready to ship and not even in stock is bad online business. You should never be charged for an item unless all criteria of the order is met, in stock and 2 day shipping is pretty clear cut, if you can't meet those criteria, you shouldn't be charging their card. read more

I'm trying to buy a Seascooter from Scuba.com, first they send me emails saying that I have issues with my credit card, after an call they send me link to pay thru amazon.com, and I try to proceed, but couldn't complete because Scuba.com already charged my card! So they are requesting me to send my card statement to prove my address!!! SCUBA.com IS STILLING MY MONEY!!! How someone can charge you and after request prove that your address exist??? I've been an online customer for about 6 years. I try to support the local economy where I live, but sometimes it's hard to beat the selection and pricing from great online resources. Scuba.com beats their online competition in one key area - when you call them you get an actual human, in the U.S., who is also a substantially experienced diver, often an instructor. These folks see what works, day in and day out, they have the pulse of the market with a national footprint, and they are candid about the good, bad, pretty and ugly of what they stock. One other point, compared to their competition, they often have free standard shipping, so even if you are a price-only shopper, your total bill will often be lower than with other online suppliers. The only area of improvement I can recommend, is perhaps a website refresh- one product I am looking at was listed on the demo section at a great discount, but there was nothing on the main product listing to indicate that as an option. Having noted that, Darrick, the instructor I talked to directed me to the demo unit with the discount, so human service still trumps a slightly inefficient website. read more

I couldn't really find another location to buy gear in Southern California so I went here thinking they seem like they have everything and good reviews..... I ended up being greeted with some of the worst customer service I have EVER experienced in my life at any establishment. If their website listed who their Owner was I would call him in person and give this review of his employee. As far as I'm concerned, whether it's the beginning of your shift or the end, or you're having the crappiest day of your life, every customer is your first and should be treated with that respect, courtesy, and interest. I went into their store location, mentioned that I'm pretty new at snorkeling and wanted to purchase gear for both my wife and I that will last us a while, be comfortable, and be quality.... at the very least I was hoping for some suggestions, questions about what we are looking for, or something, I really don't have the experience to know what's good gear and what's not so I thought we'd work our way to the best solution for us and our budget...... BUT the shop worker then proceeded to treat me and my wife like we were idiots, stomped around the office rather "huffy", didn't offer an ounce of advice, didn't offer any information about what made this fin better than that fin - or this snorkel better than that snorkel etc, and when he had the gear brought in from the warehouse he basically threw the gear on the table and proceeded to be rather smart aleck about trying things on - I felt bullied, and belittled, felt like he didn't want to give us the time of day, and had better things to do than help customers who were about to drop some serious money. To sum it up: he was SOOOO RUDE, so standoffish, and short! His best attempt at friendliness was "where will you be snorkeling" I replied with this cool location and he just said "huh". Just now I read his bio on the scuba.com website and come to find out he has a lot of experience and interesting stories to tell about diving there in fact it was one of his favorite places - I would have loved to hear about it or at least get a smile. Perhaps he could have offered a good suggestion to the best snorkeling beach. So I'm going to give this company the benefit of the doubt that not all of their staff act this way, at least I hope not, and I'm sure ordering online is a fine experience if you know what you're ordering and don't mind not getting to try it on before you buy. But if you want to visit the store location I can only PRAY you don't have the same experience we had. It's just sad to me that there isn't another company to go to for diving gear in our area because it's likely I'll have to shop at scuba.com again out of necessity when I'd really like to never step foot in this place again after this experience. (Note: I hardly ever write reviews (good or bad) so for me to be flustered enough to take the time to write this speaks for itself...) UPDATE: This review which was actually in August 2012 but yelp dated it wong.... The owner has contacted me personally to resolve terrible experience I had both immediately after our bad experience and in the comments below. I had recently wrote a good review but they are crap! I ordered a suit loved it. But the wrong size I sent it in for an exchange now it's 2+ months from the original order where they lied about the shipping dates because they don't have a clue what's going on and I finally get the suit and it's the wrong colors. I am beyond irked off at them and will never use them again. Oh and get this they charge you to ship it back to them and to ship it back. Interesting place. I went there and there was no one in the store so I walked around the store for a bit. Though I heard some people in back. I was really looking to look at some of their equipment, but it seems like a place where they go back and get things for you since nothing is really on the showroom floor. After a while I left. Probably a good place to get good deals since the website looks pretty good, but not to really do your own comparison without having to talk with a sales person. When I first started shopping here 5 years ago, Scuba.com was the epitome of any equipment sales websites: They had great customer service! When you called, a real person always answered. They were staffed with professional and knowledgeable sales reps who knew their products and never tried to up-sell. And, in fact, had great recommendations for cheaper items. Those days are over. My last 2 orders have been marred by the following situations: 1. Crappy customer service. When I called to check on my order, rude unhelpful customer service reps Bull****ed me about the status of my order, did not send me the promised items, then finally sent some of the items that were "available." I had to call 3 days in a row, just to get some of the items shipped in time for my dive trip (which was 10 days after I made the initial order!) 2. I purchased an item that was advertised on their website as "available," but later found out that it wasn't available and that they needed to order it before shipping. C'mon guys, that's just false advertising! (Other people complained about this topic so I don't need to discuss it further). In fairness, there is still one or two guys who are professional and knowledgeable about scuba equipment. You get 2 stars because 2 crappy experiences in a row are 2 too many! read more

If I had known that I wouldn't have bought it in the first place b/c I wanted to use it for a trip. Very deceptive to list items and offer guaranteed delivery dates and expedited shipping (for more money of course) when they don't even have the items in stock! I needed snorkeling fins-- stat. Scuba.com has an immense selection and is decently priced, and guides you to finding the right pair (snorkeling vs. scuba diving). They have a 2 week shipping guarantee that was key for us (needed the stuff before Sat.) and our light, luggage-friendly fins made it to NY before the projected delivery date. I may get eaten by sharks, but at least I'll be well shod. read more
