Zzzzzzzz..... Slept like a teenager! That bed was awesome. The sheets and cotton bedding felt like home, EVEN the pillows! I never sleep good in a different bed, but this placed has changed my stats! The room was great. We stayed in "Jennie's Garden". The owner basically gives you "house" keys, and you're on your own until you need her, and IF you do, she's there in a flash! Perfect. This place is not big, so if you're in a state of "ponder", get off the fence and make your reservation! We're from Bedford and we have Fort Worth to the west, and Dallas to the east, so there's plenty to do around here, all you have to do is hop in the car and drive for 30 miles! LOL So, we stayed at The Screen Door for a mini vacay and it was just what we needed. We drove half a mile to Johnny's Place for dinner, and then went to The Silver Bucket for a beer or two. (next door to The Screen Door Inn) Yes, we drove to dinner...we had just ridden 60 miles in a bike rally (bicycle, no motor!) so our legs were spent! Then we crawled upstairs to our room, cranked the air and hit the hay...zzzzz You can park out front, and leave your car alone for a day or two if you're so inclined. Walking back in the alley looking a murals, and visiting the shops on the square was such a treat. Our life (personally speaking) gets hectic, and this trip was just what we needed! Check it out, people. You can thank me later. :)

Bravo!!! If you are looking for a quiet, little weekend get-away in a quaint Texas town then the Screen Door Inn is where you need to stay. The attention to detail is unsurpassed in this little jewel nestled between a few art and boutique shops and across from Cliftex, the oldest continuously running movie theater in Texas. The wall texture, the old brick facade peaking through, old screen doors at the entrance to each room, soft delicate bed linens, exquisite bath toiletries and the list goes on. There were four of us traveling together and after a little stroll from a great movie at Cliftex and a delicious meal at Mitchell's Grill we gathered in the Inn's common room for several fun games that had been laid out for our selection. The next morning we were treated to a wonderful breakfast next door that was oh so delicious. I still have the images of the Inn in my mind even though we have since left and said goodbye. However, I know it will only be a matter of time before we are back again.

My husband and I were part of the kitchen/meal crew and stayed in the Gathering House. The kitchen was quite well-stocked and the extra fridge around the corner + extra storage space was much needed. We did have to bring some of our own equipment but we were thoroughly prepared to do so because Gathering Oaks provided all the information about what was available at the retreat center ahead of time. The sound proofing isn't the greatest in the main house for those staying in the ground floor rooms, but that didn't really end up mattering too much since I'm a pretty deep sleeper. Those who wake up more easily from loud noises may not have as easy a time staying in one of the bedrooms in the Gathering House. The facilities are all very well kept and the kids had a great time with the outdoor activities and the fire pit at night. Would definitely consider Gathering Oaks in the future for smaller retreats (about 40-60 people max).

However, on the listing it mentions there are no hidden fees. This is the first place with a hot tub that had it replaced with a cold tub. As it turns out, they want an add-on cost of $100.00 to turn the heat on the hot tub. I am sure there is an excuse, but it is probably ridiculous since this is not an industry standard.

But caution: once you start staying there, you'll want to keep coming! Everything about White Rock Creek B&B is built with care and decorated with love and beautiful detailing. The cabin rooms are custom built, comfortable and inviting with romantic ambiance, and nestled in the oak and poplar trees with plenty of quiet and privacy. We love the owners and they love to chat with you and become your friends as they serve up their breakfast casseroles, fresh fruit, and pastries in the mornings. You can enjoy the fellowship with other guests in the dining great-room, or in privacy on their sprawling back porch facing the trees and a quiet creek. The location is perfect for a Waco stay. Just 5 miles from the brand new, must-see McLane Stadium where you can catch a Baylor football game, or a short walk from there to a baseball, basketball, or tennis game -- all good choices of Big12 championship teams. Enjoy the ever growing, beautiful Baylor campus and the "Baylor Bears" in their natural habitat, and the onsite Texas Sports Hall of Fame with the SW Conference Exhibit; the renowned Armstrong-Browning Library; the Mayborn Museum Complex with the Titanic Exhibit; and the Texas Ranger Museum. Then you can take a hop across the bridges 1/2 mile from Baylor to downtown Waco to eat and shop at Magnolia Silos Market by Chip and Joanna Gaines of "Fixer Upper". Or if you have a taste for archaeology, history, and God's creation, a 5 1/2 mile drive from the B&B to Waco Mammoth National Monument will satisfy your itch for walking through an active "dig" and seeing the finds of wooly mammoth families who had been enjoying the grasslands during the ice age and became preserved by the melt and mud (or, maybe by the Flood?).

Getting to Spot: Little hard to find (depending on app you…read moreuse) Roads are rough, would recommend SUV Parking is grass but during rain, gets muddy Farmhouse cabin: Good views Have to take stairs to 2nd story (if your room is upstairs) AC window units don't keep the room consistent temp Shower is literally less than 5ft away from bed -just a curtain separated water from same bed -shower floor made of rounded pebble rocks (not as bad as some say it is). -hot water is fast and consistent. Really nice. No Closet, limited amount of places to hang clothes and towels for drying purposes. TV didn't seem to work Good views of parking lot and farmland beyond Easy walk to even hall on property Shades are questionable, people can see into room if shades aren't aligned properly. One keurig coffee pod maker. Works well 1 sink only, Lots of furniture to put clothes on, night stands too. Refrig is 4ft tall, limited space, worked as expected Laundry hamper provided in room. Event Hall: A/C worked well Plenty of seating Shuffleboard in poor shape, had mold etc on it Pool table ok, slanted due to concrete it's on. Sound/PA system is awesome Bar area really nice iCE machine works; Sliding glass convenient-style fridge in kitchen, works Full kitchen available Spring full (NOT QUEEN) x2 in room - horrible to sleep on. Felt every spring, every movement about spring'd out of bed (bouncy) Right next to window ac unit, got frozen Other bed next to shower, couldn't feel AC Other info: pretty expensive even with big group, didn't feel it was worth it for the rest expected. ATV was reportedly $500 for a day (no thanks). Wildlife on fenced side of property.

Pre-Trip Experience:…read more Before our visit, I spoke with Shy over the phone, and she was incredibly knowledgeable and patient. She answered all my questions and got me even more excited about everything the ranch had to offer. Getting There: We visited for my wife's birthday, bringing along our 11-year-old and 2-year-old. We arrived on a Tuesday and stayed until Thursday--it was quiet at night and incredibly peaceful. Traveling from Round Rock, the GPS guided us directly to the property without any issues. The drive was enjoyable, with scenic views of cows and lush greenery. A few days before arrival, we received an email with everything we needed--gate code, Wi-Fi password, parking instructions, and more--making check-in smooth. Upon arrival at our cabin, we were greeted by the sight of zebras and Jack the camel, which was an incredible surprise! The Camellia Cabin: First Impressions: Cool, cozy, and well-designed--felt like a tiny home. Living Area: Spacious fridge and ample cabinet space. Stove available for cooking. TV, loveseat, and a comfortable chair. Loft Area: Two full-sized beds (low ceiling but cozy). Bathroom: Clean with a sliding door. Water was consistently hot (bring your own soap--mentioned in the email). Main Bedroom: Full-sized bed with two closets. The AC is positioned above the bed--great for cooling down, but be prepared for direct airflow. Extras: Fireplace for s'mores. Plug-in bug zapper. Plenty of firewood provided. The Property: Beautiful and spacious with plenty to explore! Wildlife: Baby goats, peacocks, and geese freely roaming the grounds. Outdoor Activities: Swings and grassy areas perfect for picnics. Bikes available for riding around the property. Lovely pool area for relaxing. The Extras: Safari Tour (Highly Recommended!) A 600-acre tour behind a gated section of the property. Our guide (whose name I sadly can't recall, but I believe it started with "A") was amazing--his passion and knowledge of the animals made the experience unforgettable. We saw wildebeests, bison, red stags, llamas, and more. When it started to rain, our guide quickly pulled my into a shed to keep us dry and continued sharing fascinating details about the animals and property. A must-do experience--kudos to the staff! Horseback Riding (Trip Highlight!) Just outside the main gate (about 9 yards to the left). We were greeted by Kenneth and his associate, who were welcoming and professional. My wife rode Oil Money, while I was paired with Geronimo--my first time on a horse! I was nervous at first, but Geronimo was a pro--he knew exactly what he was doing, even if I didn't! The ride lasted over an hour, and we felt like we got every penny's worth. Final Thoughts: Moon River Ranch exceeded our expectations in every way. The staff was friendly, helpful, and always available to answer questions. The property was stunning and offered so much to do. We truly made the most of our two-day stay and can't wait to return! If you're looking for a great place to eat, check out The Butcher's Cellar in Waco--about 30 minutes from the property. Fantastic food and well worth the drive! Highly recommend this incredible getaway--thank you, Moon River Ranch!
