We sold out all the rooms they had to offer. We even had to share rooms; it was so many of us... This establishment was very accommodating they had cots so that no one had to sleep on the floor. Pet friendly. This is definitely my choice when visiting the area. They owner even came to visit us, because he had a sold out session during this recession. Loving and friendly guy. Our wedding guests filled up the Inn and everyone loved their rooms. They even have a studio on the first floor. My mom who is 82 appreciated not having to go up the stairs. Her room was really big. Arriving after dark, my partner parked on the street and walked down the Art alley to ensure that he had the right spot and knew where to park. I could see that we were in a small town with some local shops and a small theater but tried not to look around and ruin the surprise. Once the venue was verified, we pulled into the grassy parking area behind The Cell Block, located the keys, and found our way to the front door. I could tell that the place was small, dated with a very modern makeover, and had a rooftop area. I was so excited to see inside!! With the heavy, suctioning swoop of the metal door, the prison-turned-boutique-hotel interior was revealed and I immediately congratulated my partner on such an awesome find!! Not one detail was ignored! We took pictures like paparazzi before even putting our bags down over sheer excitement at this overhauled, 1930s, 2-cell, cinderblock city jail where hard steel met white walls and ceiling, delicate flowers, tinted glass, crisp linens, and windows on every side. I have so much to say about this place - from its prison/criminal-themed music records to the rooftop gas fire-pit to the curious alley cats to the sparkling clean wine glasses and complimentary wine and Balcones single malt...it all made for such a special and adventurous stay! While this might be a one-time special occasion for us, we are very eager to treat my parents to a visit some day and have already recommended it to a couple of friends!

The outside is a little plain but the inside is a vintage dream yet with every modern convenience you need. We happened to call last minute and the owner met us there in 10 minutes and explained the history of the house. She and her husband bought it and restored it back to its original beauty. We totally lucked out and felt like we won the Lottery when we walked in. The proprietor met us on the little road heading down (while she was feeding the chickens, with a longhorn standing ominously behind her). Then - a huge fireplace with burning logs to welcome us in. We arrived late afternoon and just took a brief walk around the grounds on a few of the many trails. The Prayer chapel has a custom made cross with a stained glass dragonfly. The serenity of the scenic landscape is really something. This would be a perfect getaway for a group or spiritual retreat. Truly an amazing feeling - like you've just come home! Can't wait to return when the seasons change.

I accidentally touched the coffeemaker while getting ready the next morning and the dust was so thick, I could write a message with my finger. It was not just the coffee maker, it was the whole tray it was on. I actually thought the dull gray color was the actual color of the coffeemaker the night before. The breakfast was very disappointing. Very few options. Biscuits and bland gravy, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, waffles, bread, cereal. No fresh fruits, no potatoes. There were no plates in sight. To get one, you have to knock on the kitchen door, hand over your breakfast ticket and they then hand you a foam plate. It was a weird set up. Considering all the good reviews, I guess I expected more from this property.
