Arriving after dark, my partner parked on the street and walked down the Art alley to ensure that he had the right spot and knew where to park. I could see that we were in a small town with some local shops and a small theater but tried not to look around and ruin the surprise. Once the venue was verified, we pulled into the grassy parking area behind The Cell Block, located the keys, and found our way to the front door. I could tell that the place was small, dated with a very modern makeover, and had a rooftop area. I was so excited to see inside!! With the heavy, suctioning swoop of the metal door, the prison-turned-boutique-hotel interior was revealed and I immediately congratulated my partner on such an awesome find!! Not one detail was ignored! We took pictures like paparazzi before even putting our bags down over sheer excitement at this overhauled, 1930s, 2-cell, cinderblock city jail where hard steel met white walls and ceiling, delicate flowers, tinted glass, crisp linens, and windows on every side. I have so much to say about this place - from its prison/criminal-themed music records to the rooftop gas fire-pit to the curious alley cats to the sparkling clean wine glasses and complimentary wine and Balcones single malt...it all made for such a special and adventurous stay! While this might be a one-time special occasion for us, we are very eager to treat my parents to a visit some day and have already recommended it to a couple of friends!

Upon checking in, we received gift bags with snacks and water thanking us for being Bonvoy members. There was a really pretty, clean, spacious lobby with plenty of seating for the morning breakfast crowd. Speaking of breakfast was good! Nothing fancy, of course, but they had the usual juices, coffee, eggs, sausage, oatmeal, pastries, and waffles. Just enough to get you going. Our room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable. The provided toiletries smelled good. It provided us with everything we needed for a comfortable stay and a good night's sleep. I would absolutely book here again if we needed to stay in the area. It was pricier than I would've liked to spend for a night, though I do understand it was a Saturday night in a prime location. Plus, I assume if you're reading this review, you're trying to decide if you'd like to stay here based on conditions and you're already okay with what they're charging.

It was immediately noticeable and clearly inconsistent with a non-smoking property. I went to the front desk right away. The employee working that afternoon was apologetic and did what she could -- she even provided a Lysol spray -- but the hotel was fully booked, so I was unable to switch rooms. Unfortunately, the smoke smell was too strong for spray to make a difference. As anyone taking the bar exam knows, rest and focus matter. It was disappointing to have to stay in a room that smelled like smoke during such an important week. The hotel later offered a $20 adjustment on a $144/night stay, which did not feel proportionate to the issue. I hope management takes this seriously and implements stronger room inspection procedures, especially during major event weeks when guests are relying on a clean, properly maintained environment.

They were yummy with real blueberries. I also liked that they had the mini egg soufflés for breakfast. The coffee was drinkable but I only had it once. I think the reason for it not being that great is the tap water. I ended up making coffee in my room with spring water. Checked out the laundry room wash costs $2 and dry $2 and the have front loading machines. I'd definitely stay here again if in the area.

I'm somewhat of a hotel snob but our stay at the Inn was wonderful. The room was large and we were welcome with some chocolate and snacks in our room. There is an open kitchen/sitting area next to the room. The booking was easy and communication excellent! Easy check in and out and we had no issues. Be warned the staircase in and out of the hotel is steep. My biggest complaint was the claw foot tub/shower. The ring to hold the curtain left little space to move in the shower. Aside from that our stay was wonderful and we'd stay there again!
