This is tucked away in a small strip mall on 81st Avenue in Dyer, Indiana. I visited on a Saturday with a group of 5 sorority sisters from my college years. (30+ years later, our sisterhood is still going strong!) Anyway, It was 5 of us in the group, however one of our group members regularly frequents this restaurant a few times a month. She spoke really highly of the food, so we agreed to meet there. The Scrambled Diner is a very small establishment, with seating for approximately 50 people. (My number is only an estimate). Upon our 11:30 a.m. arrival, we were greeted in a rather large waiting area and told there was a 30 minute wait. The wait time was accurate, and upon being seated, we were greeted by a very cheerful waitress, who readily recognized my friend, greeting her "You are back today!" We placed our orders from a selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from. I had the Rueben with Fries. Two others had the Lobster Roll with Fries. One ordered the French Toast Breakfast with Bacon and Eggs. Lastly, one other person from our group had the Chorizo Skillet. The food was delivered in approximately 20 minutes. All of the sauces, such as ketchup and hot sauce, are homemade. My only drawback was that I originally planned to order a skillet. The menu advertised eggs "done the way you like them." However, when I asked for my eggs to be cooked "fresh, country scrambled" or "country scrambled," I was told they could not do that for me. It was disappointing to hear, despite the menu suggesting they could prepare to my liking. This oversight impacted my dining experience, causing me to opt out of ordering breakfast altogether. (For those who do not know, "fresh, country scrambled" simply means unbeaten eggs. So, one would crack the egg directly over the skillet and cook until the egg whites are partially set, then gently fold the eggs a couple of times until they are fully cooked. The end result is bigger chunks of egg white in the scrambled eggs, so you can enjoy the flavor of each component of the egg). With the request of some mustard, I enjoyed my Rueben and fries. If I come back, I want to try the homemade cinnamon rolls.

The food was good. There was a lot of different options. The only negative is it's pretty pricey. Also the space is quite small. Not good for large groups of people or people who are sensitive to noise and space. The service was good.

This is a very popular breakfast spot and my husband and I have stopped by a few times on the weekend, but the wait has been too long. It's small and quaint. The coffee is strong and delicious. They have an interesting menu and good specials. We did not have to wait very long today, however, once we were seated, it took a server just about 15 minutes to acknowledge us. By the time we received our food, we had been sitting at our table for an hour. The waitress said something off the cuff that turned us off. The food was good, but when you compare it to the price and the wait, not worth it. I don't believe we will be back.

I won't be back. For starters why is it only portraits of white kids? It's feeling like they cater to only them. I order the French toast club. The eggs were not scrambled with cheese they slapped American cheese right on top. I would have preferred them scrambled in the cheese. French toast was good. They were huge! I'm sure two people could share. The turkey sausage was awful omg it tastes like meatless something. I've never had turkey sausage like that. My man had the 2 egg breakfast and a side of short stack pancakes. He had me try the pancake I'm not a pancake person but it had a pepper after taste. He also had ketchup for his hash brown and it tasted like sugar free. I also didn't like how they don't have a meal option for pancakes, meat and eggs. That should be one meal. It was not worth $50 whatsoever and I will not be back. If you are looking for something to satisfy your taste buds it's for sure not this place.

Fantastic. I had the Boston skillet which is seafood (crab and shrimp over hash browns and spinach) with 2 eggs on top. This dish was dope. Cooked perfectly and plentiful portions of seafood and hash browns, I was in heaven eating this. My wife had the banana fosters pancakes and she loves her dish too. Service was excellent and prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you get. Top notch place

Small place, maybe 12 tables, but the menu and quality of food is off the charts good! Everything we ordered was homemade. My Black and Blue burger was no frozen hockey puck. It was a hand formed burger. Hand cut fries. Omelettes the size of a football because of the quality ingredients tucked inside the tender eggs. My friend ordered the Blueberry Pancakes and raved about them. We will be back often! read more

Best Breakfast Burrito I have ever had and I eat them everyday!!! The homemade Sausage is unbelievably delicious. If you are within hours of this place get in your car, plane, train or sail boat and get here! You will not regret the experience. This place is amazing. Made from scratch breakfast dishes that leave you wanting more. The banana foster pancakes are so delicious. We've ordered them to-go a few times and it was perfect. They individually packaged all the ingredients to easily assemble the dish (& so it tasted fresh out of the kitchen). Definitely add a side of the cinnamon bun. It is so delicious. read more

I visited for the first time recently and the food was delicious! It's a smaller selection of menu items but they've got a lot of creative breakfast/ brunch items that sounded good. I hear that this place is always filled up on the weekends, so perhaps the staff is accustomed to needing to move customers along quickly. It did feel like even on the weekday morning though the staff was trying to get people to hurry up and leave, despite there being empty tables available. Not a recommended location if you want to take a leisurely brunch to catch up with a friend or for large groups. The food is good though, so I'd probably order takeout in the future. read more

They can't miss here. The food is always hot and fresh, the portions are better than expected! I've had a skillet each time, phenomenal! The pancakes are perfect every time and so delicious! Big Daddy Skillet made my mouth sooo happy - the blue cheese was plentiful! Boston Skillet had the best cooked seafood I've had for breakfast! read more

Florentine wrap...literally the best breakfast wrap I've ever had. Each bite was perfect. The richness of the bacon was complimented by crispy hash browns, tomatoes, spinach, scrambled eggs, and just the right amount of goat cheese, not too much to overpower the wrap, just enough to add creaminess and a slight tartness. But what sends this wrap over the top is the caramelized onions. I requested both the homemade ketchup and hot sauce. Both were delicious but I felt the hot sauce complimented the flavors of the wrap better. I plan on ordering some of the hot sauce online. It's that good! I highly recommend trying this wrap. The reason I've given 4 stars instead of 5 is because my husband didn't like the pancakes. Mind you, he is a pancake snob. Having said that, he was very disappointed. His pancakes were dense and crumbly. He did enjoy the syrup but commented that a breakfast staple like pancakes should hold it's own when accompanying a menu full of culinary power-houses. read more

Since the scrambled opened I've had their number on my speed dial. Homemade jelly to catsup. Their efforts and creative breakfast and lunches has served me and my family for at least 1 a week. (At times more). I am proud to be able to tell those visiting Dyer that this is a must stop for quality eats. read more

Love this local spot in Dyer! Amazing portions, flavorful, and food comes out fast! The hostess and waitresses are amazing everyone is so nice! I've never had a bad experience! Even when there's a wait, you'll still have an amazing experience. I love the Cajun skillet, the bayou skillet, and the French toast club all YUMMY! Great for you and a friend! Would suggest calling ahead for large groups! Highly recommended! read more

Great service, fantastic food and owners that are very present! Been coming here since they opened and can't remember ever having anything short of delicious. It's crowded on Saturdays and Sundays but it's definitely worth the wait. If they can make it from scratch, they will... All the way down to the ketchup and hot sauce, aka Scram Sauce. read more

Only been once so far but definitely going back. It's been a long time since I found a good breakfast place and they have good lunch items too. Check the board for the specials because they are not on the menu. My daughter had the brunch burger, she loved it. I tried the lobster roll. I've only seen them on tv and the bun made the sandwich. I want to try several things on the menu, can't wait to go back. I'm going to leave it at 4 stars until I go back a couple times. Small place so u might have a wait but it's worth it. read more

Their hash browns are awesome! Is it weird to crave their homemade hot sauce and ketchup? Ok, right. Well with the hash browns it's a perfect combo. Egg and omelette offerings are tasty especially the bleu cheese wrap sans bacon. I make my own omelette mostly as their ingredients are fresh but I also like the blackened veggie....unique offering. They also now have a drive thru, there is often a long wait due to the small space so this is a welcome addition. read more

The food is amazing! My favorite is the Chorizo Omelette. The staff is friendly and they work so fast. Sometimes there a short wait to get in, but it's so worth the wait. Omg I almost forget to mention the homemade delicious jam, be sure to try it. read more

All I can say is that I thoroughly enjoy spending my money for brunch here any chance I get. I love that you can really tell that the ingredients are fresh. The menu items are reasonably priced as well. As for the portions, you get more out of the omelets rather than the skillets. The omelets come with a side while the skillets do not. Although, the portions are rather large already. Personally, the portions are good for two but that's okay because I can take home leftovers. Don't forget to check out the specials too! Last time I was here, they had snickers pancakes. Service has always been fast and the severs are always friendly. I'm seriously excited every time someone mentions this place and I can't wait for my next brunch here! By the way... HOMEMADE APPLE BUTTER! I live for their apple butter! Absolutely delicious! Holy cannoli! Found this place on yelp and it is amazing. I ordered The Boston Skillet and a cinnamon roll which did not disappoint! The smell alone was great. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito which was very filling and smelled phenomenal! My husband also ordered a half order of the biscuit and gravy ( A HALF ORDER IS ENOUGH FOR 2!!) which he said may be the best he's ever had! Definitely a must visit when you come to IN. read more

This place is amazing. I've been here a couple times now and can confidently say that everything on the menu is delicious both breakfast and lunch. Service is very fast and polite. The hash browns are cooked perfectly which make it a must try. I had a breakfast burrito that was amazing...couldn't finish it as it was a big serving. My friends got the lobster mac n cheese and said it was great. The biscuits and gravy are also the I've had. They also have a wide variety of skillets and sandwiches which are worth a try. I'll definitely keep coming here. Wish it was a little larger inside though, it's kind of cramped. read more

We went on a Sunday morning- the wait was 55 minutes. Because the reviews were so good, we waited. I have to say, it was worth the wait. There aren't many good breakfast places in NWI. This was definitely one of the good ones! They gave coffee as you waited! No other restaurant around NWI has ever offered a beverage while you waited. The place was small and cozy. read more

We were looking for a Sunday brunch on a cold March day, with fairly low expectations. On arrival, our low expectations appeared to be met as this was the end Condo in a nondescript strip mall. Once we were seated at a table and took a look at the menu however we started to change our minds, and when the food arrived the transformation was complete. Our table ordered a variety of skillets which the waitress was happy to individualize from what was listed in the menu. The food was fresh, innovative, and delicious. My skillet included hashbrowns with just the right blend of crispiness and warm potato, a nice mix of vegetables topped by two perfectly done eggs. Coffee was refilled adequately, and the other skillets and French toast eaten at our table were also very much appreciated. All in all, a great Indiana start to the day. read more

Great breakfast restaurant! The food was worth the wait! Fresh veggies in omelets, homemade jam for toast, awesome bacon and hashbrowns! Great service! Our new "go to" spot for breakfast! Yum! On another note, the diner is limited in seating, so I would not recommend for groups larger than 8. There was a constant flow of customers and many waiting to get in. read more

I had the Boston skillet, my usual. It was awesome. I love seafood and it's got it all, over some very tasty homemade hashbrowns with cheese and two eggs over the top whatever way you like them.Sat at the bar and got quite the show watching them prepare all the food. Service is always good, been there several times, never had an issue. Everything is fresh and homemade. If you're going with the few people expect to wait awhile pretty much any time of the morning or afternoon, but it's so worth the wait. If you like a good breakfast you have to try this place, they have the best. read more

I had stopped going to Scrambled Diner for a long while because twice before I had a hair in my food! I recently decided to give it a try once more and I never took my food. To my surprise, in the middle of a pandemic they were working with masks, but without gloves, and the space they were working in wasn't even clean. Then they charged me for someone else's food and tried to make me think it was my order until I asked for an itemized bill because I know there was no way my bill could've been that much. The cashier was upset that I pointed it out and snatched my receipt from me. Because of the poor service and uncleanliness, I didn't even take the food. I asked for a refund. I'll not ever go there or recommend it ever again! Sadly, there is not a rating below 1 star. read more

Service was impeccable. (thanks, Caitlyn!) food was super fresh and yummy. Got the Baja shrimp wrap which had great taste. Hubby got the Big Daddy Skillet. He would not get that again as he said it was too fatty/greasy. Son got Monkey Cakes which was super huge! Will be back to try more food! read more

I'll keep this short and to the point: Due to construction I had to head through Dyer, IN on the way to Chicago one day. I was hungry and looking for any breakfast place but this happened to be closest on my detour. Wow. Completely unexpected. This place was incredible. No offense to Dyer, IN but... I would never expect a restaurant with food of this caliber in a small town. Dear Chef and/or owner, if you are reading this and ever want to expand to Chicago, Indianapolis or Fort Wayne please contact me as my network of investors would happily support your expansion plans. I stopped in for the first time today. Being from out of town I had know expectations. I was blown away. I read the specials on the wall as walked in. Amongst other the Buffalo Shrimp Omelet caught my eye. I love Buffalo Chicken Wings. I love shrimp, but with eggs?? In a omelet. I had to try it. I have to say it was possibly the best breakfast I have ever had. Not only was it hearty, but they make their own wing sauce. Hot sauce. Jam. And almost everything else you ask for. The server was fantastic!!! I highly recommend this place. Nobody does it like Scrambled. read more

Great food, great prices, definitely a cut above the typical Greek diner breakfast places in Northwest Indiana, but the menu here is a bit smaller (and confusing). Certain breakfast entrees come with sides like toast or hash browns, but the menu doesn't even mention that! Docking it one star due to the cramped layout of the restaurant. And the giant photos of babies everywhere. Cuz I can. read more

Cozy diner with eclectic food. Healthier scramble is my favorite because the veggies are beautiful, fresh, and delicious. They make several of their own condiments such as ketchup. Fresh is by far their secret ingredient, along with being a family owned business. They are all about the customer. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Ben M.

I love food. I love the unique tastes and flavor combinations we create, but I love how food brings people together most of all. Since I was a little boy, I have seen food and cooking bring families and friends together. From making secret family recipes for Thanksgiving dinner to laughing around the kitchen with stories of friends, food has always been the common emotional thread for me. When Jen and I started this restaurant, we wanted to share that same passion in every dish we make. Fresh, of course, fresh ingredients is where we start. Form there, I like to experiment with flavors people are familiar with and make them new and exciting again by combining them with something unique. I have been an executive chef, Jen has run several restaurants, but our diner is special. For my entrée I got the Short Rib Hash (Sunny side up egg, piquillo pepper, red wine jus, rosemary mornay) and my side was Eggs Your Way (over easy). I have had everything on the menu. THIS PLACE IS GREAT!!! I am a FOOD SNOB!!! I have eaten here on every week day but I work weekends so I never have had to wait in the lines for breakfast. There is a cardinal rule in food that we as a country have gotten away from - people will wait for good food. I have read reviews on here about having to wait - to get a table, to get their food - blah, blah, blah. If I did not work weekends I would wait in line for the food. The potatoes are REAL - not frozen or rehydrated, the eggs are local & free range & you can taste the difference in them (Branya's Bakery not far away sells them by the dozen), the ketchup, apple butter & preserves are made there - not by Heinz or Smuckers & the food is fresh - not waiting for you to order it. This is not your typical NWI breakfast joint. This is not slung together by a minimum wage employee - the owner works & the food is made by him. I dine there typically with my kids & husband, we have as I said earlier eaten the whole menu since they have opened. We have NEVER had a bad meal or experience there. The come highly recommended & I can honestly say I have sent people there, who also send people there, who have then recommended it to me. The cash payment only has been mentioned. There is an ATM, it may not be how you want them to do business, but then again it is their business. There are alot of reasons why running a business this way is good & I for one do not think it is my business to tell someone else who works 80 hours or more a week how they should have to make their money. A Disappointing Experience Scrambled has long been my favorite breakfast spot, known for its delicious meals and reliable service. However, my recent experience was unfortunately the worst I've had so far. I placed a to-go order for four meals, anticipating the usual high-quality food and accuracy. Upon returning home, I discovered that one of the meals was incorrect. Mistakes happen, and I decided to contact the restaurant. They were apologetic and asked me to come back to get the correct order. However, after returning home a second time, I was dismayed to find that the order was still wrong. Yes, I should have checked the order before leaving the restaurant again, but this experience was so out of the ordinary that I didn't expect it to be incorrect twice. This compounded frustration and disappointment. To add to the dismay, despite the repeated inconvenience and errors, the restaurant only credited one meal. While I appreciate the gesture, it fell short of addressing the full extent of the issue. Given the trouble of two incorrect orders and two trips back and forth, I had hoped for a more comprehensive resolution. Because of this experience, it will probably be some time before I return to Scrambled. I hope this was an isolated incident, as my past visits have always been positive. Nonetheless, this situation has left me quite disappointed. read more

I took a chance to stop in after church last sunday. They were incredibly busy and I had to wait about half hour to be seated. I thought if this place is always this packed, there's probably a reason and boy was there a reason! The only reason I chose 4 stars is for the small menu selection. But, their food is fresh, organic and DELICIOUS! The atmosphere is small, quaint and clean. The staff was very inviting. I kind of felt like I was in a mom and pop shop but trendier. They have really great and unique food combinations that tantilize your tastebuds to a wonderful tune! I had the chocolate monkey, which consisted of pancakes covered in chocolate and peanutbutter, topped with bacon, bananas and whipped cream! It was amazing! I also love the fact that all their eggs are cage free and they use to go containers made out of 100% recyclable materials. This place is delicious and eco-consious and won me over in one bite! I'm a life-long resident of NW Ind and the Scrambled Diner is head-and-shoulders above every other breakfast joint I've EVER been to in the area. Home-made jams, ketchup and sausage (that's got a delectable pizza-sausage hint to it) are incredible accompaniments to their outstanding line-up of huge omelettes, pancakes and french toast. I havent stepped a foot inside since being converted from the old hotdog food joint but my wife has ordered pickup from there 3 times and each time i had the same thing, french toast. I cant get over how good it is,it will take at least 2 people to finish it off!! Its that big of a serving well worth it in my world. The only reason I give it 4stars and not 5 because I've only tried the one item on the menu just dont want a let down but will find the courage to try other menu items soon. I was looking forward to MothersDay breakfast here-my 1st time. I ordered an omelet-spinach,tomato,bacon & bleu cheese. I ask to add onion, no problem. My order came & the only thing cooked inside my omelet was the bacon. Usually the spinach & tomato would be slightly sautéd-the spinach looked as if a handful was placed on my plate any the payed on top. The surprise was that the onion was raw! Very disappointed. This is my favorite Breakfast place!!! I usually think to myself when I go out for breakfast, I can do this better at home, BUT not this place. I love it and it heats up nicely later. I don't like hash browns, but love there's and same goes for their biscuits and gravy. I loved the place so much, that I got a part time job there. :) I know it says not to if it's your employer, but honestly I loved this place long b4 I got the job there, and really was the only reason I wanted to work there LoL. My all time favorite place to eat at. I first went there for lunch because it was right down the street from my house. The food is fantastic. Breakfast they make homemade sausage patties, cinnamon rolls, jams, and cut fresh hash browns. They are usually slammed in the morning so make sure to get there early. It is the only breakfast place I go to for a good sit down breakfast. Definitely a true 5 star place. The only downfall is that they are a cash only place. read more
