If received an Explanation of Benefits for services that he performed and charged me for 1 year ago. He charged me and he got paid from Insurance Company when he submitted the claim. He got paid twice and that is fraudulent. Be careful. That office tells you that something is not covered when it is covered, but they don't give you the discount. read more

He was very nice 6 months ago when I didn't have insurance and he could charge $7,500 for - 3 tooth bridge (3 crowns). Now that I have coverage with Delta Dental Insurance (after 6 month waiting period) and it would cost only $1,500 for a bridge, he said he didn't do "this type of work". He said I should go to another dentist. I'm in Awe!! A dentist who cannot make a simple bridge. He was nasty!! We need to stop this type of dentists who just want to rip people off. A girl was at the front desk fighting $1,000 charge for today's visit and the 2 clerks claimed they didn't have her information, when she claimed she called 1 week ago providing everything from the Insurance Company including an Explanation of Benefits showing her payment responsibility of $00.00 dollars and the 2 clerks were fighting her trying to charge $1,000 for today's visit. I scheduled my annual cleaning as a new client. Dr. Carmichael came out and checked out my teeth before the "cleaning," which I found unusual. But he said I had no cavities and left me with the tech. She barely even touched my teeth and I was out in 25 minutes, including the 10 minutes it took me to fill out the paperwork. It was my first dentist in CA as I just moved to the area, but I was shocked that they wrote that off as an exam. Additionally, Dr. Carmichael failed to point out the most basic issues with my teeth and ask any questions about them or potentially provide any solutions, most importantly my gum recession on my front tooth. He didn't ask any questions about how I take care of my teeth, etc. I also had an electronic copy of my X-rays and they didn't have any way to view them. They tried printing them, which was crazy. Super old-school and outdated. Overall, the office was clean and the staff was nice, but I didn't get what I came for. I am one of those people who LOVES a good dental cleaning, so I was sooo disappointed. Update: I posted this review about 17 hours ago. Dr. Carmichael just called to say he saw my review and he'd be refunding me. Most importantly, he tried to make me feel bad and asked me to "consider my review because it would probably damage his career." The reason I went to his office to begin with was because there were no bad reviews. And now I know why. read more

I can't say enough about this doctor. I went in because my gum was hurting behind my back tooth. Dr Carmichael saw me and looked at my gums and where the pain was coming from and proceeded to clean and scrape my tooth and gum. I thought I had a serious issue until he examined me and let me me know that my problem will likely Clear itself. He then let me go with no charge!!!!!!!! After going to two other horrible places, I researched on Yelp and decided to give Dr. Carmichael a try. All I can say is Wow -- this dentist is great! I could immediately tell this is not an office where they try to scam you into doing work you don't need. He even took the time to point out to my 15 year old places she was missing when brushing. Neither of the other two dentists had done that. On top of that, his prices are very reasonable. This place isn't super fancy, it has your local small town feel. First off, let me say this dental office has the nicest and the most helpful staff I have ever met. I came 15 minutes early and right when I stepped into the front door they already knew who I was. They both introduce themselves to me with warm smiles. Minimal paperwork and they don't rush you with insurance information or co-pay. They make sure you have all the information you need and that you understand it as well. I was lucky enough to know one of the dental hygienist, Michelle, she is a total sweetheart. The other hygienists were very friendly as well. Dr. Carmichael came into the exam room immediately after I did, he had a big smile and friendly attitude. I went into this dental office with the fear of needing some costly dental work according to a previous dental office I went to. He took a 10 minute look at my teeth and explained to me that I had a discoloration of a filling and it could have easily been mistaken as a cavity. I asked him to take some x-rays for my peace of mind. He's very gentle when examining and working on your teeth. I would also like to compliment him on not giving me a hard time for my piercings around and in my mouth. Too many times have I been harassed about them. He doesn't try to slap patients with unnecessary procedures. He's honest and you can tell that all he wants is you to have a healthy mouth. The prices are extremely reasonable. I didn't feel ripped off and I didn't feel neglected as a patient. Don't go anywhere else!!! This is the best dentist I've ever been to. I have been here twice and I love this dentistry office. I have only had exams and cleanings so can't speak to how they would do with fillings, etc. Very no nonsense, not a fancy office with the latest pricey equipment, but I'm fine with that. I have been going to Dr. Carmichael since I was little. However, I recently had a change of Dental insurance at work, so I went to a new dentist so I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVERRRR!! I always knew Dr. Carmichael was the best, but it was definitely reaffirmed when I went somewhere new where they tried to upsell me on everything and wouldn't even give me the basic cleaning I scheduled the appointment for. It was the worst dental experience of my life. I had no idea dentist offices like this existed (South Oceanside Dental-- be warned, and NEVER go!). Long story shot, I immediately went to my HR office, begged to have my dental insurance changed, and now I am back to Dr. Carmichael-- thank the dental lords!! Dr. Carmichael is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. The staff is always warm and welcoming. I just recently retired from the Marine Corps so I had to find a regular ole dentist since the United States Navy wasn't providing one anymore. 2nd time visitor, first time reviewer. Came in for routine cleaning on both occasions. Be forewarned: $75 for cleaning off you don't have insurance -or- they don't accept the one you do have. In my case, I had Kaiser Permanente insurance which they didn't accept, and so I paid 75 DOLLARS to have my grill polished. Service was genuinely friendly and very speedy. I even got a gratis toothbrush and some floss at the end. I'd definitely return if I switched my insurance out. read more

Dr. Scott (I have no idea why, but I've always called him that) is very honest, no fuss and very friendly - so we have been going to him, I think, since he opened his office. The building is very simple but warm. Not all kinds if annoying bling just a good old home town place. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I have always recommended him to anyone who asks and the people that did see him always mentioned they were glad I sent them. Im a cash patient because I don't have any insurance and I was very close to driving down to TJ for some cheap work or pulling it myself. These guys gave me an extremely fair price to extract my tooth and didn't fill me with a bunch smoke trying to extract even more money from me. He never recommends anything I don't need, and always errs on the side of caution rather than unnecessary treatment. Recently a crown came loose... he saw me the same day and fixed it back in place in 15 minutes, no fuss. Dr. Carmichael provided me a great service as I called his office to see if I could get a veneer re-bonded. His office was able to get me in on very short notice. He is careful, thorough, friendly and honest. I walked out half an hour later, with the veneer being more comfortable than it was before. The staff is courteous and caring.
