Returned to Packard after a really disappointing experience at Quarry Creek...and I'm so glad to be back. Professional, friendly, respects the patients time, clear with pricing (their office manager just shows you their screen in real time so you can see the services codes and everything, they are very transparent). I had a dental emergency and Dr. Matt Packard and his team responded and were able to see me very quickly. I had lost a cap from a prominent tooth as well as the entire tooth next to it. Dr. Matt and Kendra, his skilled technician, did a great deal of work in my mouth including a root canal and the preparation of teeth to allow for the anchoring of a permanent bridge which will be put in this week. I was able to leave the office with a temporary tooth. They were so understanding as the holidays are very close and they knew how awkward it would be to have a very large gap in my upper teeth to say nothing about the ability to eat healthy food. The fact that they were able to fit me into their already busy schedule without impacting other clients was amazing. I also must give credit to Melissa who worked with me on the financial end of things. Everyone was incredibly thoughtful and kind in addition to providing excellent care. I've been to Packard Dental for 3 years now. Doctors and the staffs there are so kind and thoughtful. I hate dentist but this office is exceptional. The atmosphere is very sophisticated and comforting. Dr. Matt is an excellent doctor. He's always care about before, during, and after the treatment. He does amazing job. Went to Packard Dental based on Two Dentists Dr Matt and Dr Jared web page. i like the fact of the 3d printer for crowns. I was given to Dr Joy for review ive had two crowns so far one by dr joy and one by dr matt. its costly so you want at least to get what you pay for. Dr matt delivered hands down. This last jan 28 2025 i was scheduled for a cleaning with eric. when i got there one of the girls took his place either allison or ashlee. very aggressive cleaning not like i dont have my teeth cleaned every 3 to 4 mths because i have for years. she didnt wear a mask as i remember next thing i remember is ending up in er with influenza a and was held at the hospital for 12 days. Beware....after switching my daughters to Packard from their pediatric dentist I had to pay out of pocket $1,000+ for their two cleanings. I have dental insurance through Guardian but due to a complicated co-insurance situation Packard wanted payment up front. They did not honor the pre-negotiated pricing in place through Guardian so I ended up paying over $600 out of pocket and they ultimately received $1,200 for the two cleanings after the insurance payment. I and my three children will not be going back and I suggest others beware if asked to pay upfront because the pricing is ridiculously inflated. read more

Have been missing a lower molar for about seven years due to a food accident when I lived overseas. Have been hemming and hawing over getting an implant replacement but finally decided to just get it done. Packard Dental has been my dentist for the last four-five years. Awesome team. Two days ago, Dr. Matt screwed the post into my jaw, no pain during the procedure, no pain after. Two days have passed and the gum around the post already feels back to normal, the post itself feels like the top of a nail. Now we wait a few months for the bone to take the post and wa-la, I get a new tooth put on. Thrilled. If you are missing a tooth or teeth, have no fear, Dr. Matt is here! I can't speak highly enough about my experiences with Packard Dental. It's amazing how they always feel like family: warm and welcoming, supportive and understanding. I had to have a filling done due to a cavity and it went great!! They really made it super easy and they checked on me a lot to make sure I was okay! No issues with their work at all. Professionalism is top tier. My only issue is not being notified of the co pay prior to treatment. After my procedure I was escorted to billing and notified I owed a $70 co pay. It would have been nice to know beforehand. Also when I first received my first cleaning, they told me that they didn't accept my insurance but they'll notify me if there is any payment needed afterwards. Terrifying honestly. I received a bill from my insurance in the mail saying I owed like $20 for the cleaning. Which isn't bad but reading other people's reviews and getting hit with much larger bills is kind of scary. This is just my experience though. Overall though, I would definitely recommend them! read more

Reviewing a dentist isn't really the same as reviewing a restaurant or auto repair shop. While it makes sense to try numerous restaurants or several auto repair shops, it would not work very well to try 3 or 4 dentists and then pick the one you like the best. I'm sure people have done that, but everybody I know has picked a dentist based on recommendations, and only if that choice turns out to be terrible do they make a switch. So I can't say that I have tried a bunch of local dentists and like Packard the best. In truth, they are the only North County dentists that my wife and I have ever dealt with. Sure, we had other dentists in other cities that set our expectations, but in our new life in Carlsbad, we studied our options for a long time and then picked Packard Dental based on recommendations and reviews. So here I am writing a recommendation/review. Summary: they should be your dentist. Or maybe they shouldn't, because if too many people discover that Packard Dental is great, it will be even harder for me to get an appointment. It is in my own self interest not to recommend them. Oh well. I've lived in 4 cities for long enough to need a dentist, and I can say categorically that Packard Dental is the best of the lot. Their staff are great, their facilities are great, they have a convenient location with plenty of parking, and they have done very high-quality work for my family. We've had fillings, cleanings, crowns, repairs, and implants done here. We're happy with it all. Their priority is profit - not you. First, the only positive note in my dismal Packard experience: Allison, my hygienist. She was excellent! I was initially impressed with Packard, as they are very modern and well-equipped, but it soon became clear that they prioritize revenue over patient well-being. They tried to push unneeded work several times. They did major work for my lady. It was very expensive and substandard, requiring several attempts just to reach the "acceptable but not great" level. She called the Packard office because she was in pain after a procedure. No one would speak to her right away, but she was promised a callback. No one ever called. That is totally unaccepable! The final straw: I went in for my cleaning and was told that I needed crowns on both my remaining wisdom teeth at a cost of over $5k. They said if I didn't want to do that, the only other option was extraction. This for two teeth that were working perfectly and not giving me any pain or problems. The doctor simply told me I needed crowns and shunted me off to the "financial person". I went for a second opinion and that very experienced dentist talked to me at length about many options. Long story short: Instead of over $5k for two crowns, I got one $180 filling replacement. I may need one crown (not two) sometime in the future. If I do need it, the cost will be hundreds less than what Packard quoted. All dental offices are businesses and must make a profit, but Packard tilts the balance too far toward profit at the expense of their patients. Find a dentist who is a healer first. read more

Well if you have called around to try and see what dentist can help and be transparent about cost this is not the place, clueless person answer the phone. The whole insurance and dental thing is not fair to either companies as it is a big give and take game but putting the game back on the client is not the way to gain customers...be honest...be transparent...people understand how screwed up the current system is so don't act like you cannot talk intelligently to those people. From the moment I arrived the ladies at the front desk were so sweet. The atmosphere was very COVID friendly and safe. Nancy was assisting Dr Matt and they were incredibly kind and very intentional. Oliver was kind, fast and thorough with aftercare instructions on my new crown. They listened so well to even very fine details of what I needed, executed it rapidly, engaged in meaningful conversation, and made me feel like I was the only patient there. I am glad that I found Packard Dental after moving to the area. I've now been seeing them for a few years, always have a great experience with the dentist and the hygienists, as well as the rest of the staff. I don't really feel upsold on treatments I don't need or anything like that. They've gotten extremely busy, however, and I have had to push my appointment from June into October! I had rescheduled my original appointment due to an emergency, but unfortunately the office didn't actually schedule that rescheduled appointment and now I'm stuck with no cleaning until October, meaning I won't be able to get my 2/year allowed by insurance this year unless I go somewhere else. I've been going out of my way to continue going to Packard despite moving farther away because they are great, but scheduling may make it difficult for me to remain a patient. So be sure to book your appointments well in advance and let them know ASAP if you need to reschedule otherwise you may be out of luck! read more

After being at Packard Dental for 30 years, they nolonger will take my Premier Delta Dental insurance. They want $151 for a cleaning and let the patient deal with insurance company. Other services can also be increased whenever they want. Be looking for dentist in network with Delta Dental so they accept what the dental insurance pays. Let's begin with they're very expensive. We have insurance and always received an additional bill from them, even with a cleaning. I had a crown completed by them, I wasn't having any issues, but was told it's recommended to preserve the tooth. From day one I told them it didn't feel right, nothing was done. I was told to give it time. The estimate I received to have the crown done ended up costing me more then what I was originally told. In less then 4 years the crown came off and needed to be replaced. I gave them many opportunities do something about the crown as I mentioned it many times over the 3 plus years. Save your time and money. read more

My experience with Packard Dental wasn't very professional. Melissa the doctors coordinator was very unprofessional. She Had a hard time letting me know if my insurance would cover certain things before making the trip down to their office. Clearly it could be done if the office manager was already looking into it. Regardless, a simple, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding and look up if my insurance covers certain X-rays and procedures would have avoided a cancelled appt and future customer. I do see many other reviews with similar complaints of poor communication at that location. We love this office! They were wonderful with my kids and so helpful when my husband needed quick assistance with a tooth infection. My kids have always been fearful of any Dr. office so I was worried how they would do with the dentist but Nicole made my daughter feel so comfortable during her first cleaning and took her time to let her warm up to the new setting. She had great tricks to get kids comfortable with the tools she was using and my daughter left saying her favorite part of the visit was getting to count her teeth!
